An exploding ambulance flashes through his memory, but he resolutely ignores it for now. “I’m saying that no matter when it happened, you should love yourself. Past, present, and future Buck.” Buck smiles at him, soft sweet and disarming, and Eddie’s insides turn to goo. He can’t deny that.

Time loop fic:

“You guys have a lot in common,” Buck remarks. Maybe that’s why he likes Tommy so much. “You both like watching half-naked men pummel each other.” “Tommy’s pretty cool,” Eddie says happily. “Been a while since I met someone who can go toe-to-toe with me in Muay Thai.” “You- you guys went to… Muay Thai together?” First the fight in fucking Vegas, now this? Buck might just pass out. “Yeah, he’s got a setup in his garage,” Eddie says. “We sparred a bit.” Buck can’t get the image of that out of his mind. The both of them shirtless and glistening with sweat, showing off their skills and their muscles and- Buck forces himself to move, pushing all thoughts about that to the back of his mind. For fuck’s sake, he’s known he’s bi for maybe two days, this should not be affecting him this much! "Well listen, I- I think it's great..." Just like in his dream, he trips over his words.

The arson fic:

"The Longest Yard?" Chim asks, "seriously?" "What?" Buck frowns. "Burt Reynolds? Eddie Albert?" Chim prompts. Buck simply blinks at him like he's grown a second head. Chim sighs and waves him off. "What makes you think homemade fire bombs are behind these?” “And who would want to do something like that? It’s not exactly fool-proof,” Hen frowns. “No method ever is,” Buck comments. “And we haven’t narrowed down who yet. But didn’t you guys smell paint thinner when we were clearing the scenes?” They shake their heads. “But we only cleared the scene with the judge’s husband and we kept our masks on,” Chim says.

Buck paused, any defense dying on his tongue. “You fought Bobby, and you fought me, trying to justify your possible death. Like you didn't matter, Buck.” “So you would’ve lost your backup plan,” Buck huffed with a wave of his hand. “Backup plan?” Eddie spat the words out like they burned his tongue. He took a step closer, fighting the urge to grab Buck by the shoulders and shake him until he realized what Eddie truly meant by putting him in his will. “Is that what you think you are to me?” “How else am I supposed to look at that, Eddie?” Buck cried.

Eddie blinks at him. “Where’d you go? Are you sure you’re okay? Have you seen the nasty attacks on Cait from Sam's fans after she won The Saturn Award while he didn't? What's your opinion on this?

Wait a minute… nasty attacks? That makes NO sense.

Why would anyone attack Caitríona for winning the 2024 Saturn Award for Best Actress in a Television Series? She won the same award in 2021, and in 2015 and 2016, she won Best Actress on Television, and was nominated for best actress four other times.

Sam was nominated for the 2024 Best Actor in a Television Series award. He’s been nominated eight times, winning in 2019. Interestingly, he was nominated as a supporting actor in 2015.

All their combined 16 nominations were for Outlander. The show itself won 2024’s Best Action/Adventure/Thriller Television Series, one of the eight “show” categories.

The 2024 Saturn Awards offered 11 acting awards: five for film, six for television (Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Younger Performer, and only in the TV category, Featured Guest Star).

Neither Caitríona nor Sam would qualify as supporting, younger, or guest star. Caitríona would not qualify for actor; Sam would not qualify for actress. Duh.

So why would anyone attack Caitríona for winning an award for which Sam could not, would not qualify?

Yes, I saw chatter and whingeing on Tumblr and other sites. I’m aware some people said nasty things. I’m reminded of a child’s birthday party where a non-birthday sibling throws a tantrum when the birthday sibling opens a particular gift.

I think comparing apples to oranges never makes sense. I think both nominations and wins deserve recognition. I think tearing down one person to build up another person is childish and shortsighted.

I think the people involved in these conversations care a lot more about the Saturn Awards than either Caitríona or Sam does.

The other times the Kodansha TV picture books more simplified tellings of the 90's anime's stories actually made improvements.

1. The final four episodes of the Nemesis arc in R are condensced and combined into a single book, and while that itself makes the whole thing way less epic, the book does better with Dimande's death than the anime did. Usagi pleads with Black Lady, Saphir, and Dimande, who are on the scene with Wiseman attacking them in present day Earth, and when Saphir and Dimande start to realize they're being used, Wiseman cheap shots them both, killing them on the spot. In having both brothers get the Saphir treatment, Dimande doesn't get his dramatic deathbed repentence, and good riddance.

2. The book adapting the 21st and 22nd episodes of S has Super Sailor Moon destroying Eudial with the Holy Grail. A significantly better way for her to go out than a car wreck due to snails in the car.

3. In the final S book, Mistress 9 breaks the Holy Grail and uses its power to summon Master Pharaoh 90 to Earth, and rather than taking his sweet time actually making impact, he shows up right there and then, torturing the Sailor Senshi with his power and directly attacking Sailor Moon when she tries to stand against him. Moreover, when Sailor Saturn appears, the original conclusion of only her taking a self-destructing Pharaoh 90 back to the Tau Galaxy and being blown up along with him, with Messiah Usagi restoring everything and reincarnating Hotaru as an infant afterwards, is restored. And the story stops right at Usagi doing her Messiah thing, so we're spared the petulant bullshit from Uranus and Neptune that followed.
