Save Lucky – A Loyal Dog Needs Surgery to Live

Lucky isn’t just a dog. She’s a promise.

I found her in 2016, in a forest near the roadside in Croatia. A tiny black pup, barely weaned, jumped in front of my car. I nearly ran her over.

When I stopped, she jumped into my car and collapsed. There was an empty glass nearby — dry as bone. She hadn’t had water in days.

The vet told me: “We can put her down. Or try to save her. But you’ll have to keep her.”

I chose life. I named her Lucky, because I was the lucky one that day.

Since then, she’s been my silent light. My comfort. The one who pulled me back from depression more than once.

Now, she has multiple tumors across her body. She needs surgery — urgently. It’s possible, but the cost is around €2000 including meds and aftercare.

I’ve worked in protection. I have skills. But here, nothing I’ve earned is recognized. I can’t even get hired as a security guard.

So today, for the first time, I’m asking. Not for me. For her.

Dog Transport

Its been a long time since I've been on Tumblr. I recently had a thought with all my internal turmoil. Why not write it down and see what people think. So this will be the start of putting my story out there. Of what happened on my side. Defending my friends who were involved. While I took the blame for everything to save a company. A company that was owned by a friend of mine. Who had told me, they would take care of me financially. Only to be stabbed in the back. I have pictures and screenshots.

How To Save a Life

Imagine waking up from your sleep and you find yourself stuffed in a cage with 4 other dogs with no food and water. You are trapped and no one can hear you cry. This is not a life anyone wants to live in, but tell me why there are millions of dogs in South Korea that are living like this. Hoping to one day be free to run through a grass field and have belly rubs from their beloved human, but never getting the chance.

Historically, South Koreans have seen dogs as an animal for meat and not a loving indoor pet because they are more abundant than cows and pigs. Today, 2.5 million dogs are raised in South Korean dog meat farms. 1 million of those dogs are killed and eaten, while the rest are used for breeding so they can have more dogs to eat. I want to let you know of the horrendous activities these farms are doing and let you know that there is something you can do to help these poor dogs. 

May 2019 was a very memorable month for me because I adopted my very first dog from Free Korean Dogs. Free Korean Dogs is an organization that helps rescue dogs in South Korean meat farms, shut the farms down, and raise money and awareness about the cruel situations these dogs are been through. My dog was rescued by them with his mother and 5 other siblings. He had been born for about 5 weeks before they came to rescue them, but thinking about how they were born into this world just to be killed and eaten is truly disgusting. I have never been more proud of myself until I adopted my dog because I was able to see him grow and develop a personality he would have never been able to develop if he was not saved. It really is rewarding adopting a dog, knowing that I saved his life and gave him the forever home he always dreamed about.

Just recently in October, 120 dogs were rescued from a meat from of Seosan, South Korea and flown to the United States and Canada to be adopted. This is extremely good news that more farms are being shut down and more dogs are being rescued and adopted. The fight to end these dog meat farms is not over though because there are still about 4000 farms operating today. Humane Society International has shut down just over a dozen farms and rescued over 2000 dogs since 2015 and Free Korean Dogs has shut down 2 farms and rescued over 200 dogs since 2015, but this is still just a small fraction of what still exists out there. 

There needs to be more public awareness on what is happening to these dogs and how they are being treated. Above is a picture of a dog drained of any hope she will be able to live a happy life. She was starving, dehydrated, and covered in fleas and infection. Donate to your Humane Society International and Free Korean Dogs to help them rescue more dogs suffering. We need to work together to give these dogs a better life and put an end to these meat farms once and for all.

Brief History of Greyhound Racing in the US.

Greyhounds were imported to the US in the late 1800s to control jackrabbit population. (National Greyhound Adoption Program 2008) Swiftly after, the first commercial Greyhound racing track was built in Emeryville, California in 1919, with the creation of the mechanical lure.( Project Racing Home Greyhound Adoptions 2019) The mechanical lure is the object the greyhounds are chasing, whether it be a bone, or stuffed animal. it squeaks throughout the track prompting or motivating the greyhounds to chase it.  Greyhounds run and are competitive instinctively. In 1930 there were 67 tracks around the country and none of them were legal. (Grey 2k USA Worldwide 2019) The state of Florida was the first to make it legal and it also became the state with the most tracks. At the peak of the greyhound racing’s popularity, it was legal in eighteen states. Currently greyhound racing is legal in only six states.  In the beginning of dog races there were two dogs racing at a time, with multiple races a day. But now there are up to eight. Stop the FUCKING dog meat festival??!!!

An argument for this event is that it is ok for us to eat beef,chicken etc...... yes I will admit that I do. Except those animals are considered farm animals and not pets(In some cases). They are also butchered in farms specifically to supply us with food. Unlike the dogs in the Yulin festival they are not stolen from family home , beaten in the streets with metal rods, set on fire , skinned alived, beaten to death etc. These dogs could of been in the police force,helping people with disabilities , helping people with mental illness or just being a “mans best friend”etc.In North America there was videos all over the news of how poorly chickens were being treated at the farms. If there’s movement being done about this , why isn’t there more being done for the dogs???? THIS IS ANIMAL ABUSE.
