Hybrid Identities

Dear Judging Panel, 

Rise Up by Andra Day was used as the soundtrack in my audiovisual presentation which outlines the many layers of my identity(ies). The song felt fitting as I would feel overwhelmed at times, “broken down and tired of living life on a merry go round” since I had to rise up to the many occasions expected from the many layers of these identities — be it as a scout, a journalist, or a martial artist. True to the song, I rise up “in spite of the ache” because I have hope that I made and continue to make my home council, Aklan, a better council than it was six years ago (which was before I joined the Scouting movement). I owe it to my council as it primarily helped form who I am today; after all, if it takes a village to raise a child, then it takes a council to raise a scout. I know that if given the choice to do it again, I would “do it a thousand times again”.
