Seastate 9: Set of 13 Artist books

This was the first commission I got for 2020, for a Singapore artist, Charles Lim. This is a set of 13 books that are the Proclamation of the Foreshores Act by the various Presidents and key personels who were involved in the reclamation of land around Singapore. 

This set of 13 books are single section booklets, all covered in sandpaper of 13 different grit that were laminated on Kraft paper on the back. They are all housed in bespoke made slipcase box that is also covered entirely using sandpapers of different grit. The act of taking the booklets out has a rather disturbing feeling as the sandpaper rub against each other and create a scratchy effect. 

These books were on exhibition in the Inundation: Art and Climate Change In the Pacific exhibition in Honolulu in Hawai’i, together with some other artworks by the artist. 

I am happy that I am able to be a small part in making these sandpaper books, and I heard that unfortunately, one of them have been stolen! Must be really sought after!

A UAS consists of two Skeldar V-200 unmanned aerial vehicles, a ground control station integrated into the corvette from which the aircraft is controlled and equipment with tools and spare parts.

The Sea Falcon can operate for up to 5 hours with a maximum takeoff weight of 235kg, a maximum speed of 75 knots and a payload of up to 40kg. It can automatically take off and land on the deck of the corvette at up to 20 knots of wind speed and "Seastate 3". An integrated sensor transmits optical and infrared images in real time to the ground control station.

The request for the three additional systems comes after Germany ordered the first two in August 2018. Tests on board the ship with the VTOL UAS began in August 2020.

The subsequent contract for the AImEG project will have a period of four years and two phases. The pilot phase will include the development and certification regarding the adaptation requirements of the German armed forces, the delivery of a UAS, including integration into a corvette, and the initial training of the personnel of the German armed forces.

The series production phase will cover the delivery of two more systems, one of which will also be integrated into a corvette and the other used for ground training. In addition, three sets of weapons will be delivered for the future preset of other corvettes to accommodate a UAS.

In addition to the German Navy, the V-200 is being acquired by the Royal Canadian Navy, Belgium and the Netherlands, which will operate the systems as part of their joint program to replace the fleet of countermeasure ships.
