Primary the oldest or the era of the first time. The personification of the Sedjet. Dark or black matter manifesting in material physical form.

Ancient after the time of the olden black lights. A mixing of East Indian brown pigment along with straight hair. These mixed semites continued to mix their bloodlines. There were also immigrants that inhabited that geographical area. So the lighter pigments caused their skin to tan or burn. So their title become known as Egyptian, and Muur or Moor mean Black.

2017 in metal

I find out about a lot of metal from the good folks at Angry Metal Guy, and one of the things I look forward to at the end of the year is their year-end lists.  I thought I’d do one of my own this year.  I didn’t listen to enough metal that was released in 2017, so I’ll just do a top 5 and a few more.

1. Cormorant - Diaspora

I’ve always had a soft spot for Cormorant, through several albums and at least one lineup change.  This is another album full of varied and sprawling songs that change styles as they go.

2. Undrask - Battle Through Time

Melodeath from North Carolina, with soaring guitar work and catchy songs. I can't tell you this was the best album this year, but I will tell you that I had a lot of fun listening to it. Also, check out the video for "Longhammer"—it's goofy enough to bring a smile to my face every time.

3. Fit For An Autopsy - The Great Collapse

Deathcore with a heavy environmental slant and murderous breakdowns. Sign me up for more, please. "Black Mammoth" is my song of the year—the breakdown at the end raises the hair on my arms every time. The video is remarkably topical as well. (No Bandcamp for these guys, but they're streaming their entire album on YouTube. C'mon, guys, make it easy for me to give you money!)

4. Benighted - Necrobreed

It's fun! Bouncy bouncy hyperkinetic goregrind with all sorts of stupid little jokes that make me smile. The pig squeal vocal flourishes are an acquired taste, I admit.

5. The Obsessed - Sacred

Somewhere between blues and doom and hard rock. If you're not a fan of music where the vocals sound like Cookie Monster getting an emergency colonoscopy, this is probably the one you'll want to check out.

Jam metal?  I have to admit, I liked the previous album (Lore) better, but this is worth a few listens.

Beautiful thick and chunky death-doom.

Dyscarnate - With All Their Might

I have to admit, I just got this album about a week ago, so it’s hard to justify putting it on a best of the year list, but I’ve been enjoying it. Death metal with a bit of technical flavor and some groove to it. It scratches the same itch as Pantera used to scratch.

Cattle Decapitation - The Anthropocene Extinction

I don't usually think of myself as a big fan of the more extreme end of the death metal spectrum, but looking at this list, maybe I like it more than I think. The sonic texture of this album is incredible, and the variety of the vocal styles gives everything an anchor. "Pacific Grim" would have been my song of the year, if only it was written this year. Highly recommended.
