My Puppy Personal Assistant was growling at the screen. First thought was she was jealous of the dog (herself reflected). Second thought, maybe she was mad that the screen was off and there was no writing, editing or any creative work getting done. Hmm . . . Still think it was just a little jealousy of the 'other dog'.

Why Seeing Yourself Represented on Screen Is So Important
“the media influence not only how others view them, but even how they view themselves.”
I understood the part where watching other people and other groups on television can influences others perception of them, but learning how it can influence my own perception of myself is new to me. It was so interesting to read how depending on how you are portrayed on television, that is how you see yourself or act around others. Ever since I was young, Russians have always been portrayed as the bad guys in television, and I never understood why. However that is all I paid attention to when watching any movie, I got insecure and quiet and people would always make jokes about the russian bad guys to me. I never took it all that seriously, it just irked me, but I am happy to see that others are finally being portrayed in a better light.

Why Seeing Yourself Represented on Screen Is So Important
“Because of you, young people will finally see superheroes that look like them on the big screen. I loved this movie and I know it will inspire people of all backgrounds to dig deep and find the courage to be heroes of their own stories.”
Similar to the other article by Dobrow, Gidney, and Burton, this article emphasizes the importance of seeing a positive and true representation of yourself on TV. Without a true representation and only a stereotypical one, it is difficult to see the true beauty of different ethnicities and races, and stereotypes create a negative impact for many of them. For children especially, not seeing their genders, races, or ethnicities represented as heroes or strong can cause self esteem issues in the long run. Black Panther was a huge step in the right direction because of T’Challa and all of the other characters that stood next to him. Strong and heroic black women and men finally came to the front of the stage and were able to show children that not all superheroes all look the same. It is something everyone can now relate to, and because of it, they can hopefully be able to take charge of their stores and be the heroes of them.

Lawson- Why seeing yourself...
“As Obama noted, representation matters”
Although I chose a short quote to represent this article, I believe it is a solid and important quote. This article goes into depth about how it is important when you watch a show, to be able to not only see a variety of other people, but to also see a reflection of you. Seeing someone on screen who is similar to your race, ethnicity, or even sexual orientation is an important part of a show. One thought that came to mind is Roswell New Mexico. In Roswell New Mexico, we see a variety of races and ethnicities brought to life. In addition, we see many different sexual orientations displayed. Unlike other shows, where little amounts of diversity is shown, Roswell New Mexico shows a decent amount. Although no show is perfect, and often Roswell New Mexico even shows ethnicities in a negative light. The movie and TV industry has a lot of work to do to display different individuals in a more equal matter. The article brings in a very good example, The Black Panther, and even brings in more colleges for research purposes, such as USC for more examples and backup for the statements. Representation matters, and negatively portraying minorities is highly seen across films, and we hope to see improvement as more movies and TV shows develop.
