Ahhhh! I forgot about this brand! I remember doing packaging research for an assignment when I was in school and saw this. I immediately fell in love.

I LOVE those bottles you included. It's making my inner designer really nerd out and happy to see the design of them. Liquor and wine branding really is a fun thing to do, there are really amazing designs and illustrations on bottles these days. I enjoy going into liquor stores to look at the different art and designs on them. 😂 One of the only projects I still have saved from school is a liquor bottle brand I had to create.

If I drank rum this would 1000000% be the brand I choose. 💖🐙💖🐙

So like 11 years ago I met my bestie for life on this hellsite, she’s not on here anymore, but in the same month Lisa (@desireearmfeldt) and Jess (@septembersghost) also followed me so not only was March 2012 a very good Tumblr month but also most importantly we are lifelong mutuals and you both are stuck with me forever (loving)…I don’t make the rules!

"the folk herofication of ignacio varga" say that! say it!!! i'm so obsessed with this idea, not only within the narrative, which now has these shifting sands of who nacho was, what he did, what he MEANT, because none of it will be felt or told or understood in the same way by any of those people - they'll try to belittle him, but it will be pathetic posturing, shooting bullets into someone who's bested you and can't be hurt any more, and maybe only mike will understand his honor, and who will mike ever tell? the cartel may change that story, but nacho's beyond it. he's a bloom. but outside of the narrative, with us? we understand every spark he ignites, every echo that reverberates. his ghost haunts breaking bad. he didn't need to be "redeemed" or made morally clean in heroism, it's not about that. it's a legend. a folk story. he now has a different place than any other one of these characters, and we're the ones with the framing to tell it. ballads for nacho varga. it's just. such transcendent storytelling.

oh my god you sent me this ask like two weeks ago and i thought i posted my response, but apparently it’s just been sitting in my drafts since then. here’s my response:

yes, exactly. it's like folk heroes get canonized within certain cultures (i.e. joan of arc in france, davy crockett in texas) and shape those cultures in subtle or obvious ways. my thinking is that nacho kind of becomes this for the "culture" of the albuquerque/the greater southwest criminal underground and the juarez cartel, simply in terms of the scope of his influence. we know how nacho influences mike and gus, (especially in their relationships with jesse, but also in their relationships with walt, who acts like what he's doing is a sacrifice for his family. mike and gus have both experienced and now witnessed what sacrifice for one's family really is). we can guess at how it shapes the salamancas-- i figure that it just strengthens the resolve they have in their own mores. they'll get more insular, more distrusting, more reactionary. nacho was a pretty major splinter for the cartel as a whole.

but what's also curious is that the legacies of folk heroes depend on oral traditions within a community. i don't think we’d ever get much of that. i would love to imagine domingo telling his cousin emilio about his childhood friend that climbed the ranks of the cartel only to mysteriously disappear, or mike telling jesse about a guy he knew back in the day who did everything in his power to get off the same road jesse is on, or hector and the cousins telling lalo and tuco about nacho's death and turning him into some kind of a boogeyman. but in actuality, nacho’s legacy will probably be perpetuated not through an oral tradition, but a tradition of action. his name is said once in brba, but now i think we can all agree that his is a story around which all the men who witnessed him must now shape their own.

tam! i feel like i should pop in here to say something deep or meaningful to you and the moment i thought that, my brain went: no thoughts head empty, *screams* I LOVE ELVIIIIIIIIIS 😍, so that's simply not helpful! like i said, little!me seeing his smile in a photograph: he looks sweet and i want to keep him. she was so right.

i feel so grateful that he still exists as powerfully as he does, that we can feel uplifted and moved hearing his music, that we have the chance to discover him and all his complexities and sensitivity and beauty and soul. that we don't look to hold his flaws against him, but rather be proud of how he tried and the capacity he had for strength and dreams and good. it does feel like he's close by and could just reach out and hold our hands for a minute. i keep thinking of you saying, "there's so much of him in my heart." what an extraordinary thing to feel about someone, that we carry him in such a present way in our hearts. how much that adds his warmth and kindness to the world when we keep on loving him, how he shines with us. it's a power that some people will never understand, but *we* do, that's what matters. (even if he'd laugh at our double trouble, and we'd talk and listen and dote on him until he got sick of us 😌❤). i feel like he's blessed and given so much to me, and how lucky i am that i get to share that with friends on here. it's that idea that he's never really been gone at all - how could he be, when he's still with us? that's what's worth remembering and holding onto, and i know you understand. i love him and you and my other el darlings and everyone who knows that 💕💕💕

i am so grateful as well. grateful for meeting you and grateful for elvis and his energy still being around us and in our hearts. and it's true- my heart is so full of him and it always will be. he is everything and he is everywhere.

i can't imagine my life without him in it because he's always been there and that's such a comforting thought and it makes me love him more and more every day- if that's even possible.

i find it hard to put the way i feel about him into words sometimes because it's such a deep and overwhelming love and connection, but the word that comes to mind right now is: forever.

elvis is forever going to be in our lives and hearts. not until the day we take our last breath, but forever, because after that it will still be there. that unconditional love and respect.

i'm on the verge of rambling but i love him so and i love YOU so, my jess darling. 💗
