got this question in strawpage and it genuinely left me thinking for a while
Tumblr media
its essentially impossible to come up with stuff for these two without leaving speculation to go straight into headcanon territory, but it's especially hard to me to think what would make Celebi appealing to a specific character, because she gets so little to do in the game...
My best bet would be that, much like with grovyle, he would also admire celebi's strenght, resilience and unwavering will? I think she could light up his days the same way she does grovyle's. I do wish we had anything more than celebi calling him a "coward" in a very specific context. You can barely argue that adjective has any deeper meaning when dusknoir's plan is literally hide behind grovyle's corpse to surprise hero and partner, the "coward" feels too apt for the situation to go much deeper.
(We dont even get to see why Grovyle likes her in the game, we see them after they've become inseparable, and thats only really apparent in se5, bc in the main story grovyle just says shes a bit weird and celebi teases him sometimes. i wish we had more clues of how they behaved in regular environments)
tbh my fav thing for them is having them separated and only coming together because of grovyle. they both revolve around him, so they find common ground in it, and their love for him is what pushes them to open up to each other. it's what makes the most sense to me considering that dusknoir does not even verbally acknowledge her in the main story. id say itd be suspicious if it wasnt bc of 2000s misogynistic writing.

(while i am crumbling into pieces from cramp pain)
back when they announced the totk masterworks book i said i wasnt happy about it bc it would either
prove they thought all this was good from the start and everything went as planned
show us that they had unbelievable better ideas and plans but for some unknow reason scrapped it all
as it stands now with the concepts i have seen ... they somehow did both, some things seemed to have been planned fro mthe start (the whole focus on sonau/zonai stuff for example, which i personally just dont like bc i liked them better as an unkown mystery you never get to meet) and other stuff (like ganondorfs concepts, or the infinitely cooler castle in the sky esque concepts for the sky islands, instead of some nonsensical, meaningless little stone crumbs) was much, much more interesting initially (together with the interviews that said they initially planned to have the battery be a magic meter and make the sonau more magic than tech- but then decided to build their stuff around modern electrical devices just so players would immediately know what it was an what it would do -why????? thats so boring?? and unecessary ?? and they still give you tutorials for it anyway, multiple times??!!- for some ungodly reason)
it makes me more and more sure that this game, that took 6 years to make with most assets already being there (the same time that botw took to make?????????), went through a similar development hell as that one final fantasy game did where the director decided to make it an entirely different game every few weeks bc he saw something cool in another game-
its the only thing that makes sense to me, why else would it be so weirdly ... unfinished, its full of grand ideas badly executed, or like i said in a previous post, like an alpha build (weird! did someone in charge also see cool stuff every few months and decide they wanted it in there too no matter what so everyone had to scramble to try and put it in making the whole jenga tower fall over and over??), just to test how far you can push things, with placeholders everywhere, the same cutscene pasted in where another should be and a placeholder reason to get players to go soemwhere (fake zelda) and rough ideas for puzzles etc, that was never finished, jsut highly polished (in looks, sounds and presentation) in hopes of it being 'good enough' or players not noticing (like, take the underground for example, the idea itself is fantastic and cool as fuck, but its feels like an idea that was never finished and just barely fileld with some things to try and cover up the fact that it was never done, like a statue that wasnt done being carved but ran out of time so they painted it anyway- take the base map and invert it, put some easily accessible points of jumping down into it in random spots to test if the game can handle it- no time left to actually get that idea anywhere more specific and well thought out/put together, so its left like that, put the same texture everywhere, barely modified copies of the same enemies, and some little reward spots that make no sense, modelling three types of trees and an enemy camp is way quicker to do than actually making an entire new map (they didnt have to make it the same size btw, just make it big but unique caves, put the gravity effect down there in enclosed spaces! makes it less weird to have randomly happen in the sky! etc) but its there!! its in the game and if they are lucky most players wont go down there enough to notice how meaningless and unfinished it all is)
knowing they would most likely never admit to it though, probably bc of their reputation, is just addign to the frustrations i have with it :I
(i just hate to not know the reason for things, if the devs, who are usually the ones being worked to the bone for things they know arent good, where put through that bc some executive big shot threw their tables around every so often or neglected their project bc they wanted to focus on something else first ... id like to know, i dont enjoy making up these conspiracy (?) theories .......... but i cant shake this feeling, its jsut makes no sense)

Okay, everybody dug the “art doesn’t go bad” post, so I’m gonna make a follow-up that probably won’t go over so well. If you find yourself getting constantly angry or frustrated at the way someone else is telling a story…maybe consider…that story just doesn’t have to be for you. It isn’t necessarily bad. It’s just the way the storyteller is choosing to do their thing. And maybe a good deal of why you don’t like it is a sense of ownership of someone else’s story being told as you personally wouldn’t tell it. Maybe you’ve got an idea in mind of how you want it to go, and they’re taking a different path. Which is okay and very normal to feel! But it does mean you might want to move on to another story, or tell one yourself, instead of insisting the thing you’re watching/reading/etc is just absolute garbage. Your interpretation of someone else’s story is not gospel; nor should it be. Making peace with that is just part of the deal.

just thought of an aridante headcanon on a whim
when gay marriage was legalized aristotle and dante had decided to finally get married. why not i mean, they had thought of themselves as a married couple for years now and besides they thought it was something they need to do not just for themselves but for everyone they had known growing up who didn't live to the day. when their wedding day came it happened at ari's favorite spot in the desert. it wasn't a very large wedding but it was small either, it was attended by all their closest friends and family and that's all that they needed. during the reception a small storm had rolled and it started to rain. this didn't matter to ari and dante though, they just kicked off their shoes and started to dance. dante had encouraged all of the guests to join in and do the same and they did. with the sunset pearing through the clouds, the now cool earth beneath their feet, and the feeling of love that surrounded them aristotle and dante had never felt more connected than in this moment.

Really hate how Dead Men Tell No Tales completely undermines the bittersweet ending of Elizabeth and Will's story at the end of World's End.
Jones basically forced them apart, therefore continuing the cycle that he and Calipso were put upon years before. By stabbing Will, Jones ultimately caused Jack to have to rethink his plan. Jack did the right thing by making Will stab Jones' heart, but it came at a cost. Jack and Elizabeth knew that, but they still put it forward.
When you first watch the movie, you want them to make it out of the battle. You feel helpless when Will gets killed. And you feel relief when he returns alive on the Dutchman. But you also know at the back of your mind that there's still the matter of Will not being able to see Elizabeth again for 10 years.
That's what makes their ending work so well here. Yes, it's such a bittersweet ending, and yes it's gut wrenching when Elizabeth has to watch Will and the Dutchman disappear over the horizon; but it teaches a lesson that, yes, it does suck. And you're not always going to get complete happy endings. As a kid first watching this movie, I accepted that. It's a valuable lesson to take with you.
So of course I'm going to be salty about the fact that they took away this remorseful yet very important ending for these two.

me, before visiting star wars galaxy’s edge: okay. so you loved the force awakens as a teenager and imprinted on kylo ren for various understandable reasons, but you are 25 years old now and the sequel trilogy was disappointing post-tfa and you have not watched a star wars since you saw the rise of the skywalker, once, in theaters. you will not get that sentimental at this theme park, it will be normal and fine.
me, visiting star wars galaxy’s edge: 🥹😏🥰👍

Torn because I want to commiserate a bit about the end of Dragon Age as a series, but I don't want to hit any "if you criticized Veilguard or didn't buy it, this is *your* fault" -style posts. Maybe there aren't any, but I'm not feeling inclined to go find out.
#especially since I suspect this was coming regardless of sales or criticism#based on the long development time/2023 layoffs/no DLC planned#i remember reading about a smaller round of layoffs too back in early december -- a bioware artist who lost her job on dragon age day#but i can't find the post i'd read about it so i can't verify anything#if memory serves the artist in question posted about it on bluesky but then deleted her posts#and since i don't remember her name i can't look any of this up#well...regardless. i keep thinking about how sheryl chee's comments about the fans now owning dragon age were nice#but don't do anything for me#i greatly enjoy fan art and meta and analysis#but what draws me to rpgs is the part where i roleplay in a video game#unless there have been significant changes to the site that i missed i can't do that on ao3 y'know?#for about six of the ten years between inquisition and veilguard the most i'd thought about DA was while playing BG3 early access#and it felt somewhat like playing dao again#but in the end while i both love and am critical of bg3 in a way that's similar to how i feel about dragon age my investment isn't the same#and it can't be because it's not a world created and owned by the studio that made the game#larian isn't going to make any baldur's gate sequels even if they could and the dos games aren't#and i was just reading owlcat's ama answers where they also said they don't plan on doing sequels to their games#because that would mean canonizing certain endings and taking away player choice#idk! i'm just feeling bummed in the moment#i love games other than rpgs but it isn't the same kind of experience
