most days, juhee would say that she’s an adequate and thoughtful early riser. that is if most days didn’t end with the day before being drilled over and over about their ‘ high heels ’ choreography until her feet practically bled in said heels. however, today, unsurprisingly, wouldn’t be like most days. today is the first day of their comeback and while juhee wakes with anticipation. she also wakes with a slight groan in her throat as she relieves herself of her covers and walks to the bathroom, not realizing she has nearly toppled over someone else in the process.

she’s ignoring the ache she feels prick at her feet as she rubs at her eyes, bowing her head sleepily to the person she had nearly fallen over in her tired waltz towards their shared bathroom. “morning, unnie.” she says, her eyes falling over themselves as she tries to blink herself away. unlike most mornings, juhee would spend the first few scrolling through her phone to wake her up but today -- she needed cold water to wake her up. today was much too important of a day to be spent lazing in bed. 

once she gets the most of the stardust from her eyes through the incessant rubbing she does with her fists, she glances back to the older girl. “did you get any sleep?” she asks, wondering if seulgi had fallen into her bed much like juhee had -- almost like a dead log in the middle of a forgotten trek of woods, silently and quickly. timber! she could have sworn meiqi had said as she slept like the very dead juhee had felt the night prior.

Wendy couldn’t do anything else but nod in approval when the dancers of AND*ROMA presented the choreography they came up with. She doesn't know much about dance when compared to singing, but she couldn't help but wonder why they weren't allowed to come up with their own choreography more often. It's probably the same reason she isn't allowed to write any songs for the group.

She may not be one of the better dancers, but Wendy knows how to study whatever is presented to her. It's a skill she picked up from figure skating, piano, guitar, and ballet classes before joining the ranks of Nova Entertainment.

The concept for this cover is a rather exciting one. It's more in line with what suits their current age group, to be honest. Wendy feels like they're all too old to dancing around while waving lollipops or using a fake cute voice. They are so way beyond that age, so when the dance line proposes an edgier, more mature cover, Wendy is one of the first to say "Yes!"

Honestly, Wendy would have been fine being in the background for most of the dance. She isn't part of dance line and would have been fine if they got most of the spotlight. However, she was delighted to learn that all of them got their moment to shine. All of their dancers deserve so much better, and she hopes this cover shows exactly how good they are as a team.

Before she realizes it, D-Day for recording has arrived. Unlike recording for actual music videos, there's none of the usual nerves that comes with it. The dominant feeling she has is excitement. After all, this is a surprise gift to the fans after winning their first music show. After all, they were gifted with a win, they should give back as well.

To get people hyped for the video, Wendy has taken it upon herself to post a teaser photo of the cover. It's nothing too fancy, but she had to get AND*ROMA's name out there in any way she can.

Her part in the choreography isn't too hard to follow; however, Wendy had to spend a chunk of her time trying to push her hair back in a sexy, but subtle way. She only hopes she doesn't screw up when recording actually happens.

Recording was as fun and exhausting as it could be. After all, they're shooting the same dance over and over again. At least the other girls are a whole lot of fun to be with. She can't imagine being stuck in a studio, recording the same thing over and over again with anyone else.

"Thank you for all your hard work!" They all say when recording ends. Wendy can only hope that the fans enjoy watching this as much as they did making it.

《 ★ seulgirk 》 he’s fully prepared for this, or so he says. it’s odd to think that not only did seulgi debut but she debuted in another company, with people he doesn’t know, under a different name than he’s used to, and she feels more distant now than when they first met. honestly, he wasn’t aware that was even possible but he’s hoping the feeling goes away in person. he expects it to, because it’s seulgi, because it’s them. albums behind his back, he approaches where some of the and*roma members are, bowing his head in greeting before holding out a copy of convex’s new album to seulgi. “ convex would love to welcome and*roma but i have a special condition for you, miss younggi. ” 

with a cheeky grin, he takes the other album from behind his back, and*roma’s new one, holding it out towards her as he keeps the other at bay. “ gotta sign it for me, to your biggest fan ” he’s insistent as he nods, expression solemn for barely three seconds, breaking character when he realizes. “ aa, a pen! do you need one? why didn’t i bring it with me... ” clearly, a mistake in his plan.

they had just finished dress rehearsal and entered their dressing room once more. sunmi held a fan to cool herself down. dress rehearsals always made her hotter because they were wearing their clothes, with makeup and the hot stage lights on. they had two hours until their final camera rehearsal. the cuts from that one might be used just in case there’s a mistake during the broadcast. they’re really good with editing that way.

sunmi wasn’t particularly tired today. now that it was almost 9:30, she was wide awake. her blood was pumping. there was a little over an hour and a half until they had to go back out. instead of sleeping, she decided to browse on her phone. she laid down on the couch, settling on a video put on nova entertainment’s youtube channel. she had known about the cover wendy and seulgi were doing but she hadn’t had the chance to watch it yet.

she was surprised to see the cover was entirely in english. sure, wendy spoke english but she didn’t know that seulgi did too. she sounded so good! when the video ended she put down her phone and removed her headphones. the dressing room was filled with staff members walking about, getting things done. some were getting their makeup and hair touched up. because of this comeback, they didn’t have any backup dancers like they did for cushion. “younggi-ah!” she called to seulgi. she was on the other side of the room but sunmi is sure she wasn’t waiting for anything.

on the days where the group are to appear on music shows, meiqi finds that there’s a surplus amount of free time where they’re expected to do nothing but sit around and wait for their turns on the stage. it’s quite boring most of the time, so she goes around bothering her members or the staff. occasionally, she would leave the waiting room to explore the building, only to get lost and having to call one of the members or their manager to bring her back, and now she’s banned from doing that too (it only happened four times, sheesh! get over it!). 

at least, today is their last day having to suffer in waiting rooms. the promotion cycle is ending already (it feels like it’s gone by so fast!) and since there’s not much left for her to do in their final wait, she opens up youtube to find a video that can entertain her.

curious, she types the group’s name into the search bar and waits for the results to load. there are their official videos like music videos and dance practices, a few special stages from festivals, and surprisingly, there's a variety of fan-made contents.

meiqi skips over a compilation of wendy’s singing (she saves it for later though), and a video that claims to introduce the newest maknae of and*roma, landing on a peculiar title, only uploaded a few hours ago: learn the alphabet with and*roma: sunmi's birthday vlive edition!

meiqi is laughing herself to tears by the end of the video. when they had planned to surprise sunmi on her birthday, she had no idea that the night would have gone the way it did. the memory itself is enough to reduce her to a hiccuping laughter, but the way the fan had edited the clips together and added commentary, it’s just... it’s pure gold.

“guys!” she manages to yell out between cackles. meiqi wipes a tear from her right eye as she flings herself off the couch, rushing towards the closest member to her. she rewinds the video to the beginning before shoving her phone screen in front of their faces. “you have to watch this!”

first meetings

in typical haknyeon fashion, the young boy is running through the hallway of the building, going from one practice room to another, and then to the cafeteria for a quick snack. as he walks ( see: sprints ) back to the practice room, he bumps into an unsuspecting person, almost toppling over and dropping his sandwich, which he’s able to save, through mere strength ( a tight grip on his food )!

he rubs his head gently, scrunching his nose up before he quickly realizes the situation that he’s in. “i’m sorry!” he immediately apologizes, looking away from his food to see who he’d accidentally walked into. it’s a familiar face, but not exactly super familiar. “oh, hi noona!” he greets with a friendly smile. 

it’s seulgi –– a newer member of and*roma. he’s seen her around the building and the and*roma showcase, but the both of them have never quite actually gotten the chance to talk. he does remember sunmi telling him that it’d be nice if he could get closer to the newer members though, and if anything he’d love for that.

“are you alright? i hope i didn’t hurt you!” he says. “were you rushing off somewhere?”

“Hey...” Jihyo trailed off as she spoke to Seulgi just as they walked into the practice room. She wasn’t sure about this cold thing but they had to do it and this was definitely not one of her favorite evaluations. “What do you think of the songs we’re covering? Mainly, what do you think of she’z?” Them performing Eung Eung hade her curious about what the other girls thought of them. Right now, that was the sound they had to look forward too.

“Between Eung Eung And I’m so sick and the rest of their work?” Jihyo liked the former but she knew she couldn’t be picky about it, there wasn’t really a choice. “I do like the more mature theme but on top of that, I liked I’m So Sick more than Eung Eung.” And more than their other work. “I wonder if what the comeback will be after Eung Eung.”

december has been a difficult month. he spent the first week of it with no sense of meaning whatsoever, hardly able to drag himself through the training day, heavy with sadness in the wake of woojin’s departure. he spent the first week of it wanting to leave, but talking to jinwook (and burdening him with his problems in the middle of such a busy season for him) helped. at first he wanted to leave, but then he thought, if not this, what? could he leave sphere and create a new band without kenta, leaving kenta as a trainee entirely alone? wouldn’t that be worse than never getting signed in the first place?

so he stays, and does what he does best to fight back sadness: fakes it. december’s evaluation proves an interesting distraction, and thankfully (miraculously) doesn’t involve breaking his back dancing. it’s something new to him, and something he fears a little, preemptively embarrassed, but he wants to do well. he doesn’t know what exactly sphere will have them do yet, but they told them to practice, and that’s exactly what daniel intends to do, never really one to stray from what he’s told.

he and seulgi agreed to practice together during independent study, some of the cfs they were shown requiring two people and this activity generally seeming more fun with someone else. they sit on the floor now, and daniel’s a little nervous, but he likes seulgi, and he’s sure he can fake confidence with this enough. hopefully they’ll be able to just laugh about the ridiculousness of it more than anything else. “i think we should practice the mascara cf first,” he declares. sure, the original was with two girls, and daniel will have no use for mascara ever (he assumes) but he liked that one best, maybe because of the english in it. if anything, he thinks trying it first will lighten the mood and make everything else after easier.

sleepy hollow.

june was in a weird state at the moment, and he couldn’t quite explain why. perhaps it was because male trainees came and went with the seasons in sphere, and it was hard to bond with anyone he could potentially debut with. he felt especially alone these days, and the only trainees he really could confide in were the female ones. hence why he finds himself scooting tentatively into the space across from seulgi at the cafeteria tables. 

“hey~” he tries to be cheery about it, twitching out a small smile for her as he seats himself. his lunch is rather plain - a sandwich, an apple, some rice, and a tiny tin of soup. “mind if i join you? i don’t know who else to buddy up with right now.” he glances around the room, scanning to see if there was anyone he was closer with than seulgi, but it dawns on him then that seulgi is probably his closest friend in sphere regardless. they weren’t best friends by any means... what did that say about him?

《 ★ seulgirk 》 the first few days didn’t worry him as much. the company building might’ve been conducive to many chance encounters but it was by no means small. so yixing doesn’t think too much of it on the days he can’t find seulgi or doesn’t run into her, not until the days start to turn into weeks and he’s beyond confused. rumors hit the mills and he’s still perplexed, waiting, wanting to hear something, anything more certain.

it takes yixing a while to remember that not everyone has his new number, least of all seulgi. they’ve always had the convenience of training in the same building. by now, yixing’s certain that’s no longer happening. if only he knew it was as simple as going to seocho more often but with the new members in the group, he couldn’t bring himself to go easily, to feel distracted more easily the way he does when he goes there. she’ll show up, right? surely, she at least will go because it’s a cafe they used to all go to.

☆ﾟ.*･｡ﾟ 200501 BIRTHDAY VLIVE ˎˊ˗

the phone connects and sunmi is beaming to the camera. a stream of comments flow in: and*roma fans excitedly wishing her happy birthday and asking what she’s going to do for her first vlive broadcast. there’s already over a hundred thousand hearts. they’ve been working hard before the broadcast. she’s excited.

“hello everyone!” she greets cheerfully. she see a new wave of comments. many freaking out at her saying anything. it makes her grin. she sees a few comments asking about the other members of and*roma, what they were doing. sunmi blinks. “ah! they’re somewhere else right now. some are probably in their rooms sleeping, i think.” she keeps a wide smile. “it’s okay! we’ll do this video silently so we won’t disturb them, hm?”

she let’s some time pass where she’s just watching the comments. thousands of people asking different things at once. the comments scroll quickly. she hums. “are you guys coming to my birthday fan meeting? it’s tomorrow! check it out on nova’s website. you’ll come see me right?” there’s many english speaking fans. she figured she should talk to them as well. “i was telling them i have a birthday fan meeting. i know many of you aren’t in korea.....so i feel like a vlive can give everyone a chance to celebrate. and it’s late here so it’s earlier in other parts of the world.” this triggers an onslaught of comments of fans who are in shock with her speaking english. “i’m from new york! of course i know how so speak english.”

sunmi props the camera up on the opposite end of the kitchen island. she smiles. with a step back she makes sure she’s in frame even as she begins to bake. “i’m going to make tiramisu! i really enjoy it and i think the girls would like it as well.”

she starts with light whipping the cream. she makes sure to show everyone how it goes, angling the bowl and lifting the whisk so they all could see. she smiles. it’s a little lonely to make a tiramisu on her own but it’s slightly less lonely with everyone engaging on the comments. while she works she figures it’s good to fill the empty space by talking.

“this time last year i was going through a difficult time.” she figures anyone here would remember or know about the supernova project but there’s always a chance that there are new fans who never watched the show when it aired or still haven’t gone back to watch it in the first place. “it was the start of the final month of the supernova project. i was feeling really discouraged.” she doesn’t think people understand how pivotal that point in her career was. she was going to leave nova after. it was already too much time spent. she was nearing her thirties. she didn’t want to wait any longer. “and it was my birthday. i couldn’t spend it with my family. i only had everyone in nova. i’m glad they chose to celebrate it with me. but i know we were all tired and wanted to go home, see our families. i really wanted to see my siblings. it’s hard being away from them so much. everyone in and*roma and per_se made sure i wasn’t lonely.”

the tiramisu was going well. she continued. “i have four siblings.” she peeks to check the comments. many were pointing out ashe. she nods. “yeah, ashe is my little sister. i’m the eldest. i also have my brother sungdong. a lot of you know him as an old royal trainee.” their parents had gotten married some time ago. it wasn’t even a large transition for them. “and we have two younger siblings. the twins.” she pauses, watching the comments pass. “i will see them later in the week for a family birthday celebration!”

just as sunmi gets ready to say they’re almost done preparing the tiramisu, the lights go out. the soft glow of the phone is the only light source. it’s not much, since the screen is reflecting the darkness in the room. sunmi straightens, turning to the doorway of the kitchen. “what’s going on--” she says out loud. she’s ready to call for the girls to see if they noticed the power outage but instead they come in, turning on the light as they enter with the cake in hand.

juhee is holding a cake with the others following closely. they all sing happy birthday as they walk. though judging by the walking speed, juhee is particularly nervous being tasked with holding the birthday cake. she’s so tense as she walks and tries hard not to take large steps. juhee stumbles, quickly recovering with s shuffle of her feet. the jerky motion causes the cake to tilt forward....gravity takes care of the rest.

there’s a chorus of simultaneous screams: all of them poised to grab at the cake even though they don’t make a swipe for it. meiqi seems to fall dramatically like a soap opera star as the cake does. she let’s out a loud wail. had she yelled out “no” it would have been a clip straight out of one of the cheesy dramas where the lead girl gets injured in a car accident. wendy is the loudest with her scream. it’s probably what startled sunmi to yell as well. the candles on the cake rolled towards the couch. the candles managed to ignite the couch corner which sparked another chorus of panicked screams and yells. kaeun is quick to grab a cup of water and douse the tiny flames.

they all stay silent for a moment, looking at the destroyed cake on the kitchen floor and the scorched couch that can just barely be seen in the frame of the video. then seulgi chimes in with, “.....well we can steal eat the part of the cake that didn’t touch the floor.” sunmi looks at her, appalled. “don’t do th--”

meiqi is quick to interject: “eat the cake that touched the floor too! we are clean women there is no need to waste good expensive cake!” sunmi repeated herself, louder this time. “don’t eat cake off the floor!” seulgi shrugs. wendy seems to agree with the sentiment. “we did pay a lot of money for it.” kaeun grabs the serving plate the cake was on and a spatula. she immediately starts to scoop it back where it was.

sunmi looks into the vlive camera in disbelief. she’s not sure how the general consensus became to eat the floor cake.

meiqi uses the distraction to dip her fingers into the floor cake (or floork as seulgi hilariously refers it as) and draw whiskers on sunmi’s face with the icing. it’s goopy and sunmi swears it feels icky. “whiskers!” she declares cutely. she makes whispers on sunmi’s other cheek as well. she picks up the vlive camera and turns it to point at the leader. “say meow sunmi.....sunmeow!”

sunmi waves meiqi off for such a corny play on words before she turns her attention to the others. “yah! don’t eat that floork! i’m making tiramisu. we’ll just finish it together...right?” they didn’t look too convinced but if they were going to eat the floork then at least off camera. “help me finish it guys come~” she reaches behind her, pulling juhee right next to her so they can get it done together.

they finish up the vlive that way: making a new birthday tiramisu together. they cheer when it hits 12 am: marking the actual beginning of sunmi’s birthday. the cake is completed and topped off just as the vlive is set to be done. though the last words of the actual vlive are seulgi saying, “i think eating the floork won’t be that bad.”
