Firstly, I want to apologize in advance for any insensitivity or inaccuracies in this post. I cannot pretend I am as educated as I would like to be, but I am extremely passionate in learning about others and using my privilege for good.

Since the horrific murder of African American, George Floyd on May 25th 2020, rightful outrage has broken out worldwide over the injustice and disgraceful blatant racism that is still going on in 2020. Fifty seven years since Martin Luther King Jr. spoke his, “I Have A Dream” speech during the March On Washington For Jobs And Freedom on August 28th 1963. Fifty one years since Marsha P. Johnson, a Black Trans Woman, Sylvia Rivera, a Latina American Transgender Activist, Raymond Castro, a Latino gay man, Miss Major Griffin – Gracy, a Black Trans woman and Storm Delaverie, a Mixed Raced lesbian, fought during the Stonewall Riots on June 28th 1969. Which begs the question, why is it half a century later so many Black Lives are being taken mercilessly each day?

With June being the month of PRIDE and as I am hugely passionate about LGBTQ+ Rights, I feel it is important to note that the first riot protesting was led by Black Trans Women and Gay Men. I must mention that Black Trans Women have an average life span of 35 YEARS – just let that sink in for a moment.

We are all the same, we are all human, nobody is born racist. It is so wonderful to have so many colours and cultures within our world and yet a huge number of people are hurting this. Without variety we would not be able to educate one another and learn about each others history.

For the people that are posting about how, “All Lives Matter” I can’t emphasize enough how frustrating this is. No one is saying that white people don’t matter, the injustice is not harming white people, there is no racial prejudice and harm coming to myself because of the colour of my skin. Yes, every single person in the world suffers and has hard times, but BAME are the only ones being persecuted because of their skin. The “Black Lives Matter” movement is bringing awareness to the dangers so many people suffer every single day, living in fear doing the most mundane things that we so often take for granted. It is worth noting that white people will never understand this pain and fear, but we can understand the suffering so many people of colour go through and try and prevent it from continuing. I have started a thread on my Twitter, to share each petition I have signed, hoping that others will take a few minutes to do the same – it is the least we can do.

I’m also going to share each of the petitions in this post, with information about the victims who have suffered such pain. People may have seen the murder of George Floyd and think this is the first of it’s kind and tragically, it is not. Police brutality is extremely real and not only is it happening in the USA, it is happening in the UK too. Inquest, have stated there have been 1741 DEATHS in police custody or otherwise following contact with the police in England and Wales since 1990, with 14% and 183 of them being of BAME . In 2019, mappingpolicebrutality states there were only 27 DAYS IN 2019 where police did not kill someone, 24% of the victims were black, despite being 13% of the population and in 99% of the killings NO ONE HAS BEEN CHARGED.

I simply must take the time to thank the amazing Nico, who runs blacklivesmatters, because of you I have been able to educate myself and sign petitions on incredible people, that I admittedly had no idea existed. Thanks to thehindu website, I have learnt that between 2013 – 2019, 42 PER MILLION populations of African Americans were killed in police shootings – the highest among races, with statistics showing they are THREE TIMES more likely to be murdered than white people. Furthermore, over 17% of African American victims were UNARMED.

Here are a few of the many lives which have been lost and families which have been destroyed. It is important to remember these victims and share their stories. I’m ashamed to say that I had only heard about one of the stories that I am posting, which goes to show how many are ignored, and never spoken about. This is not acceptable, no one deserves such inhumanity and suffering. I am aware that these facts are hard to read and may be triggering to some, which I do apologize for, not because they have to be read, but because they ever happened in the first place. It is our responsibility to educate ourselves and not turn a blind eye to the injustices and tragedies which is happening daily in our world.

SAY THEIR NAMES.

TRAYVON MARTIN:

A 17 year old African American teenager, who was fatally shot in Sanford, Florida by George Zimmerman, on February 26th 2012. Trayvon was walking alone to his father’s fiancée’s house from a store and Zimmerman, a member of the community watch, saw Trayvon and reported him to the Sanford Police as suspicious. Several minutes later, there was an altercation and Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon in the chest. Zimmerman was NOT charged at the time and when he eventually was tried, he was ACQUITTED of second-degree murder and manslaughter.

SANDRA BLAND:

A 28 year old African American woman, who was found hanged in her jail cell in Waller County, Texas, on July 13th 2015. Sandra had been pulled over for a minor traffic violation, three days earlier by State Trooper Brian Encinia, who ended up arresting her with the charge of assaulting a police officer. Part of the exchange was recorded and after authorities reviewed the footage, Encinia was placed on administrative leave for failing to follow proper traffic stop procedures. However, in December 2015, a grand jury decided AGAINST indicting the country sheriff and jail staff for any misdemeanors regarding Sandra’s tragic death. Encinia was eventually indicted for making false statements about Sandra’s arrest and was fired. However, in June 2017 the perjury charges against him were DROPPED, with the confirmation he would end his law enforcement career.

KATHRYN JOHNSTON:

A 92 year old African American woman, who was killed by undercover police in her home on Neal Street in northwest Atlanta on November 21st 2006. They broke down her door and fired 39 SHOTS at her, with five or six hitting – she fired one, which didn’t harm anyone. The officers were found to have falsified evidence, stating drugs were present in her home, which was the original cause for the raid. Jason R. Smith, Gregg Junnier, and Arthur Tesler were tried for MANSLAUGHTER and sentenced to only 10, 6 and 5 YEARS.

SEAN BELL:

A 23 year old African American man, who was killed the morning before his Wedding, on November 25th 2006. Detective Paul Headley fired one shot, officer Michael Carey fired three times, officer Marc Cooper shot FOUR TIMES, and officer Gescard Isnora shot ELEVEN TIMES and officer Michael Oliver shot 31 TIMES, reloading his gun AT LEAST once. Two of Sean’s friends, JOSEPH GUZMAN and TRENT BENEFIELD were severely wounded but thankfully survived. Isnora and Oliver were charged with first and second degree MANSLAUGHTER, whilst Cooper was charged with RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT. All three were ACQUITTED, only being fired or forced to resign from the force.

ERIC GARNER:

A 43 year old African American man, who was killed by New York police officer Daniel Pantaleo, after he was placed in a chokehold whilst being arrested on July 17th 2004. The medical examiners actually RULED HIS DEATH AS A HOMICIDE however, Pantaleo was NOT charged with murder and was only fired on August 19th 2019, MORE THAN FIVE YEARS after Eric’s death.

REKIA BOYD:

A 22 year old African American woman, who was killed by an off-duty Chicago police detective, Dante Servin, on March 21st 2012. Rekia’s friend, ANTONIA CROSS was also shot in the hand. Over a year later, in November 2013, Servin was charged with INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER, but was CLEARED OF ALL CHARGES, by Judge Dennis J. Porter on April 20th 2015. Servin resigned two days before his departmental hearing on May 17th 2016, FOUR YEARS after Rekia’s murder.

AMADOU DIALLO:

A 23 year old Guinean immigrant, who was murdered by four New York City plain clothed police officers, Sean Carroll, Richard Murphy, Edward McMellon, and Kenneth Boss, on February 4th 1999. They fired 41 SHOTS, of which 19 HIT AMADOU and were charged only with SECOND DEGREE MURDER – all ended up being ACQUITTED. In 2015, Boss was PROMOTED to sergeant – he had already murdered PATRICK BAILEY, a 22 year old Jamaican born American Citizen on October 31st 1997.

MICHAEL BROWN JR.:

A 18 year old African American man, who was murdered by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, on August 9th 2014. Michael was UNARMED with his friend, DORIAN JOHNSON and his body was left in the street for FOUR HOURS before he was removed. On August 11th, a Civil Rights Investigation was opened, but on March 4th 2015, CLEARED Wilson of any civil rights violations. He was NOT charged. On November 29th, Wilson resigned from the force, citing security concerns.

KIMANI “KIKI” GRAY:

A 16 year old African American boy, who was murdered by two plain clothed New York City police officers, Mourad Mourad and Jovaniel Cordova, on March 9th 2013. He was shot at ELEVEN TIMES, and was hit by SEVEN of them. Mourad was nominated for, “Cop Of The Year” in 2014, despite being named in THREE FEDERAL LAWSUITS FOR VIOLATING CIVIL RIGHTS along with another shooting in 2011. Both have NOT been charged.

KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN SR.:

A 68 year old African American man, who was murdered by police officer, Anthony Carelli after inadvertently triggering his LifeAid medical alert necklace. The officers broke down his door, even after Kenneth stated he did not need assistance and had asked them to leave. They stayed for one hour trying to force the door open and an officer called Stephen Hart, swore at him and called him horrific racist words. Kenneth was UNARMED, which DNA evidence has proven and was TASERED and shot at TWICE. In 2012 the case was reviewed by a grand jury and the officers were NOT charged.

TRAVARES MCGILL:

A 16 year old African American boy, who was murdered by security guards, William Patrick Swofford and Bryan Ansley, in a parking lot on July 16th 2005. Originally, the two men were NOT charged, it wasn’t until FOUR MONTHS later in November, that Swofford was charged with MANSLAUGHTER and both with SHOOTING INTO AN OCCUPIED VEHICLE. The charges later ended up being DISMISSED.

TAMIR RICE:

A 12 year old African American boy, who was SHOT TWICE in Cleveland, Ohio by police officer Timothy Loehmann, on November 22nd 2014. He was simply playing with a TOY GUN and ended up dying in hospital the next day. Loehmann was NOT CHARGED and was only fired THREE YEARS LATER in 2017, after it was revealed that he had been labelled an EMOTIONALLY UNSTABLE RECRUIT and UNFIT FOR DUTY in his previous job.

AIYANA STANLEY-JONES:

A 7 year old African American girl, who was murdered by police officer, Joseph Weekley, during a house raid, on May 16th 2010. In October 2011, Weekley was charged INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER and RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT WITH A GUN. Weekley ended up having two mistrials and the judge actually DISMISSED the involuntary manslaughter charge in the second one. Five years later, on January 28th 2015, Weekley was CLEARED of his reckless endangerment with a gun charge, meaning the third retrial would not happen.

FREDDIE GRAY:

A 25 year old African American man, who was arrested on April 12th 2015 by lieutenant Brian W. Rice, officer Edward Nero, and officer Garrett E. Miller, after running away from them, whilst they were patrolling. Freddie was subsequently charged with having a knife in his possession, although no harm was caused and the knife was not used. Freddie was then placed in a transport van within 11 minutes of his arrest and half an hour later he was IN A COMA. He died on April 19th, a week after his arrest, with his cause of death being stated as injuries to his spinal cord. The medical examiners ruled his death a HOMICIDE, saying that his injuries had been sustained whilst being transported and that the officers FAILED TO FOLLOW SAFETY PROCEDURES. Six officers were filed with various criminal charges, including MANSLAUGHTER, ILLEGAL ARREST, RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT and SECOND DEGREE “DEPRAVED-HEART” MURDER for officer Caesar R. Goodson Jr., who was driving the van. Each officer was granted a separate trial, Porters resulted in a MISTRIAL, whilst Nero, Rice and Goodson were all ACQUITTED. Any of the various other charges were subsequently DROPPED.

SEAN RIGG

A 40 year old black man, who died following a cardiac arrest whilst in police custody, in South London, England on August 28th 2008. Sean suffered with paranoid schizophrenia and was in a vulnerable mental state, resulting in the hostel staff he lived with calling 999 FIVE TIMES over a period of THREE HOURS. They were informed by operator, Maurice Glove that Sean was NOT A POLICE PRIORITY. Response was eventually made after members of the public had observed Sean acting strangely in the street. Four police officers chased him and he was handcuffed and restrained in a face down position, being LENT ON FOR 8 MINUTES. FOUR YEARS LATER in 2012, Southwalk Coroner’s Court concluded police had used, “UNSUITABLE AND UNNECESSARY FORCE” and their failings, “MORE THAN MINIMALLY” contributed to his death. In March 2013, sergeant Paul White and officer Mark Harratt were arrested on perverting the court of justice, regarding the evidence presented at Sean’s inquest. However, in October 2014, the CPS decided NOT to charge them. Sean’s family did request a Right To Review policy and White was charged with PERJURY – ultimately, he was ACQUITTED in November 2016.

Under the cut: you will find a lengthy, yet concise summary of the historical life and rule of Louis XVI.

*** While this is not a mandatory read - it is interesting and will be referenced in most threads outside of the Modern AU, ( which must be requested to write in. ) Some knowledge may benefit you to know if you don’t have a good base in the history of the french revolution. I may add to this as I gain more sources and insight into the King’s personal life. ***

Biography:

Often passed over in favor of his older brother Louis ( Duc de Burgundy ) because he was more outgoing, handsome & intelligent. Tragically, he died at 9 & favor was shifted to the new future Dauphin. Louis Auguste was by all accounts a healthy but painfully shy & reserved child. He was equally as bright as his brother excelling in: Latin, History, Geography, Astronomy. He was also fluent in English & Italian. ( Louis liked to wrestle with his brothers & hunt with his grandfather. ) His special interest was in locksmithing & this was encouraged by those around him as a worthwhile pursuit even in his childhood. The subjects he was taught by the Duc de la Vauguyon additionally included: Religion, Morality & Humanities.

Louis married Marie on May 16th 1770 when he was just 15 and she was 14. By the time the two were married to form the French & Austrian alliance: the defeat of France, in the 7 years war had already made the French public view the new Dauphine as an unwelcome stranger to the country.

The couple only met 2 days before their marriage, and for this reason the marriage was cordial but very distant in the beginning. Louis was shy & also afraid of being manipulated by Marie for stately purposes --- this made him act coldly towards her in public. They did eventually foster a fondness for each other & their marriage was consummated in 1777.

( Louis XVI & Marie Antoinette’s reputations were damaged because they did not produce heirs in a traditionally ‘ timely manner ‘. )

After gentle prodding from Marie’s brother, Joseph II --- Louis began to take his conjugal duties seriously and Marie fell pregnant, eventually giving birth to 4 live-born children. ( Marie suffered 2 miscarriages and Louis - by all accounts - consoled her each time. ) Louis XVI also ‘ adopted ‘ six children additionally, though they were never granted royal status.

Louis took the throne in 1774 at age 19 after his grandfather died. By then, there was already resentment among the public for the royal family, lots of government debt incurred before he was installed as monarch, and so much responsibility that Louis himself did not feel ready & prepared to take on.

Louis XVI’s indecisiveness & lack of firmness - though grounded in the idea he wanted to be liked & loved - ultimately, led to part of his downfall. ( It should be noted Louis Auguste DID genuinely attempt to be a good and just king, the circumstances that line up before his assent to the throne were too vastly stacked against him. )

Louis reinstated the ‘ parlements ‘ & put a more experienced advisor in place to ensure that things were fair and on the up and up. Louis also signed the Edict of Versailles || Edict of Tolerance that allowed Non-Catholics to have the legal right to practice their faith(s), as well as restore legal/civic rights and status to them. This overturned the Edict of Fontainebleau which had reigned as law for a little over 100 years. While the Edict of Versailles didn’t claim freedom of religion - it decriminalized the practice of other religions and helped ease tensions based on religious differences in the country.

Radical financial reforms were a steadily growing need in the country because of the mounting debt ... the nobles refused to instate the necessary laws ultimately culminating in further dissatisfaction among the public and stoking the flames of the oncoming French Revolution. The publication of ‘ Le Compte - rendu au Roi ‘ -> ‘ The Records of Accounts for the King ‘ further ruined the monarchy’s reputation by publishing propaganda that was full of fictitious & inaccurate budgets meant to make France look more financially stable than it was. When the true extent of France’s debt was revealed: the common man & many nobles alike were shocked and disgusted, the nobility outright rejecting the reforms necessary to begin to rectify the scenario.

Finally, the country’s finances reached an appalling low --- and Louis was forced to use his absolute powers to force reforms, though they could only be maintained for more than 2 - 4 months maximum before he would be forced to revoke them. He closed down the french parliamentary system. The royal treasury was also unable to sustain the reforms imposed because it was in a crippled state as it was.

After much abuse from the the First & Second Estates ( after Louis reinstated the Estates-General ) the third estate decided unanimously declared themselves the National Assembly. Soon after Louis lost control of this newly formed legislative body - the revolution was underway and officially began with the Storming of the Bastille on July 14th 1789.

Louis Xvi’s Palace de Versailles was stormed by an angry mob on October 5th 1789. This was done in an attempt to kill Marie --- the now much hated symbol of frivolity to the French public. After the Marquis de Lafayette diffused the situation - the royal family was forced to move themselves to the Tuileries palace in Paris.

While plenty of key figures besides the king and queen attempted to gather strength to restore the former absolute power of the monarchy --- it would ultimately fail and many of these secret supporters either retracted loyalty to the crown under threat of death, or met grisly ends by the hands of the public & new governing body. Louis, finally realizing the danger he and his family were in and wanting to regain control of France - helped Axel von Fersen ( a rumored lover to the Queen ) plan the royal family’s escape to gather forces and gain protection by Austria. After a series of setbacks, missteps, poor judgements, indecision, and assorted other issues behind the scenes - the family was caught and returned to Paris ( Tuileries Palace ) on June 25th 1791 and placed under highly monitored ‘ house arrest ‘. It didn’t help that before they left, Louis left a manifesto denouncing democracy and asserting his authority as king by birthright. Many of his subjects felt torn and confused, though remained loyal ... until this incident in which the revolution was known to be imminent.

All in all, the call to arms fell on inactive deaf ears amid among other foreign monarchs, making the response woefully lackluster and this ultimately sealed the fate of the French aristocracy. On August 10th 1791, the people once again stormed the palace Louis and his family resided in forcing them all to take refuge with the Legislative Assembly.

Louis was officially arrested on August 13th 1792.

September 21st 1792 - the former Third Estate’s new government body the ‘ National Assembly ‘ announced France a republic and abolished the monarchy altogether. All of Louis - Auguste’s titles were taken and he was referred to as Citoyen Louis Capet. While many members wanted the gratification of executing the former king --- the fact some had backgrounds in legal work felt due process a necessity. An agreement was reached that there would be a trial for Louis before the National Convention.

Several charges were brought against Louis while he was being tried, though there were only three questions that mattered to the assembly:

1| Is Louis guilty ?

2| Whatever the decision, should there be an appeal to the people ?

3 | If found guilty: what punishment should Louis suffer?

On the 26th of December 1792, Louis responded tot he charges: Not Guilty. At this time, behind closed doors - he had already accepted his fate & knew that he would be found guilty. He was reported as wanting to hold his ground so that he might still be viewed favorably and as a good king to France.

Voting took place & after an uncomfortably close call - Louis was sentenced to death by the majority of one vote: his own cousin, the former Duc d’Orleans, voted to have his cousin executed immediately. After an unsuccessful attempt at swaying the decision - the King’s council was resigned ( read as: ‘ forced ‘ ) to allow the execution to proceed.

On Monday, January 21, 1793 --- The ( Former ) Sun King was executed by Guillotine at age 38. This happened on the Place de la Révolution. By most reputable accounts, Louis faced his death with resignation and dignity. He gave a small speech before hand and was stopped before he could complete it with a drum roll that signaled the Guillotine was ready.

After the execution, his body was taken to Madeleine Cemetery where he was given a small secret funeral service and then buried in an unmarked grave, head between his feet and covered in quicklime.

The cemetery closed in 1794. 21 years later, Louis XVIII had his brother and sister in law exhumed and reinterred in the Basilica of St. Denis. From 1816 - 1826 a monument honoring the King and Queen was erected in the same area the former cemetery and church occupied. It was named the ‘ Chapelle Expiatoire ‘.

2b2t history, by its wiki

2010

Player Count: 50-70 (Accounts vary)

Nothing is much known about the early days of 2b2t, except that the server began in December of 2010. Some that do claim to have joined during this time say that there was nothing spectacular on the server, and that by then, spawn was already a mess.

2011

Player Count: 50-70

During 2011, a lot of things happened. The largest one being the formation of the Facepunch Republic. 2011 is also when many now famous oldfags joined, like Offtopia, xcc2 and popbob.

Early 2011 - Hausemaster teleports to random players to see the progress of his server. Sometimes he would give random items.

April 2011 - Facepunch Republic begins, 4channers take notice of this and tries to stop them.

May 2011 - Player data corruption and change of world generation, causes spawn to look weird.

July 2011 - First post of the 2b2t Comic by Judge Holden

December 2011 - January 2012 - 2b2t gets backdoored by popbob and co.

2011 - The first dupe on 2b2t, the Piston Dupe, was discovered by someone in Facepunch. This involved pushing the piston real fast to duplicate items.

2012

Player Count: 20-50

This year marked one of the most barren times on the server. The server faced drastic player loss during this time due to several facepunchers leaving, the IP changing, and the server being down for three months, causing players to believe that the server shut down for good.

February 2012 - Facepunch Republic ends

February 2012 - Judge's group base at -1 million -1 million is griefed by x0XP.

April 2012 - ImperatorTerrae finds Viking base and 'reforms' it.

June 2012 - 2k2k is founded by the Zion project

2b2t is shut down for three months and changes the IP address from 2b2t.net to 2b2t.org

2013

Player Count: 10-30

2013 is mostly painted by Valkyria, as most other groups of this time period are all but forgotten

February 2013 - Hitlerwood is founded by Coldwave, Zach3397 and Hinderjd

March 2013 - Anatolia is founded by Sato86, Drewbookman and PyroByte

April 2013 - Valkyria is founded by the members of Hitlerwood and Anatolia (Black Flag Group)

May 2013 - 1.4.7 Dupe, The End Dragon is slain

(Unknown month) 2013, Construction of HardHat's Pyramid has started.

June 2013 - 1st Incursion, IGN video (does not generate hype)

During 2014, Valkyria had broken up into a few smaller groups. These include Gape group and the Legion of Shenandoah

January 2014 - Asgard is abandoned after being griefed by popbob during construction

May 2014 - 2k2k is buried in lavacasts and many ancient bases are annihilated by Withers (Including the NFE and Plugin Town)

June 2014 - Legion of Shenandoah begins and Gape 1 is founded

July 2014 - Infamous message shows up on the server website stating that Hausemaster has left the server forever, leaving it in the care of "an anonymous friend." The owner's personality changes immediately after this post.

September 2014 - Fenrir Project begins

October 2014 - Nova is founded in 3b3t

December 2014 - Southern Canal Project is started by ThebesAndSound

2015

Player Count: 20-40

A large population boost happened during this year, mostly from the numerous articles and a massive Reddit post.

January 2015 - 2b2t is updated to 1.8

June 4th - Rusher declares war on "OGs," a reference to players who have been on the server longer than him.

June 13th - Fit becomes "leader" of Team Veteran, which is supposedly meant to contain the rusher onslaught and preserve the server's pre-rusher culture. This, of course, is debunked later.

June - A lava wall is made around the 500x500 area of spawn, in hopes of keeping Rushers trapped in spawn; this project fails. A very similar project occurs during the 6th Incursion, but fails aswell.

June 17th - Omega City Founded

July 24th - The Fourth Incursion begins with the Veterans raiding Napkin0fTruth's base.

July 28th - 2nd largest battle in 2b2t history (19 players)

July 31st - Aureus is destroyed by the base members themselves.

July - Hardware upgrade, temporary map

The Queue is set up around this time.

August 5th - Fit versus Rusher duel, Fit wins by having more golden apples.

August 19th - Torogadude gets stripped of his priority queue.

September 16th - Largest Battle in 2b2t History: Team Veteran allies with CorruptedUnicorn to take down Rusher. The battle ends in a draw, and Rusher is able to escape.

September 19th - Rusher leaves 2b2t for the first time for about a month.

September 22th - Valley of Wheat destroyed

September - 4th Incursion ends, Newsweek Article released

October 9th - The Rusher War ends. The Veterans say that about 10,400 Rushers had been killed, but this number is frequently questioned.

October 15th -TheCampingRusher returns and makes 3 more videos on 2b2t before he leaves.

October 22nd - Rusher leaves and The Rusher War officially ends. A small presence of rushers/newfags remain, and the server has been radically changed.

October - Offtopia's Drain is destroyed after FitMC made a tour of his base.

November 11th - 11/11 Dupe leaked to public

November 22nd - Jonathan5454 starts 6Garden. Major construction started sometime in January 2017.

November 25th - AgentGB makes a video on 2b2t. However, he does not make a video afterwards, and states that 2b2t won't be a series.

November 28th - The Fifth Incursion is organized by jared2013, however this fails, and barely makes any attention, and now recognized as a meme.

New coord exploit. Fitlantis is found.

Large battle in Fitlantis

2b2t is updated to 1.11, ending the 11/11 Dupe

AntVenom considers making a video on the history of 2b2t. He asks for the consent of the playerbase and the "admins".

Byrnsy begins his journey to the 2b2t World Border, with hopes of completing the +x Nether Highway. The Nether Highway Expedition group is formed.

March 26th - World Border reached legitimately through the +X Highway. The +X Highway has been completed. Point Nemo is founded.

March 29th - Point Nemo is griefed

March - A player by the name of PriorityQueue is seen at spawn floating and not taking any damage, it was initially thought that he backdoored the server, however this was later proved to be incorrect (possibly the usage of MineChat).

April 1st - 2017 April fools map. This lasted a few days. The queue was also disabled during the uptime of the map

April 9th - Apocalypse Exploit patched, /kill temporarily disabled

April 13th - 24th - Fit's journey to the World Border

May 18th - Fit visits Point Dory without the permission of its builders.

May 20th - Point Dory is griefed

May 25th - Torogadude leaks the coordinates of his own theater by accident. It got destroyed almost instantly.

June 1st - 1st Anniversary of Rusher's Invasion in 2b2t. 2b2t is flooded with lag machines and various shitposts to celebrate the anniversary.

June 4th - Battle between Spawn Masons and Peacekeepers starts.

June 9th - The +Z Highway is completed to the world border.

June 18th - Omega City is destroyed.

June 23rd - The first server crash

June 29th - HermeticLock announced the "second season" of hanging around at his spawnbase

July 6th - 7th - Server shut down, as a preparation for the 1.12 update and the addition of new plugins

July 23th - The original map returns. The owner announces the deletion of all non-vanilla items. However, he accidentally deleted Axe enchantments, player heads, efficiency on shears, and all dungeon spawners. The 1.12 dupe (also known as the 7/21 dupe), was also discovered, which involved spamming in the crafting book

July 24th - Dupe patched sometime around 10:00 AM (EST).

July 28th - Summermelon griefed by Fit and his crew.

July 29th - Fit is exposed by Offtopia in the 2b2t Subreddit for making stuff up just to get a reason to grief Summermelon. The real reason might have involved his youtube career to get money. Fit does this again in 2018 at offtopia's base, Viper.

August 1st - Server restarted by the owner twice at 12:00 AM August 1st (EST)

August 2nd - The 3rd Major crash causes 2b2t down for a while. (Most likely low tps)

August 4th - Jared2013 obtains bureaucrat permissions through Niftyrobo on the 2b2t wiki, and destroys the wiki.

August 5th - Armorsmith lags the server down to 1tps. Causing the playercount to drop to 50-80 players. Queue virtualy dosen't exist.

August 6th - Riot on the wiki and subreddit to demote jared2013 and niftyrobo for the removal of pages with newfag history and several newfag bases such as 6Garden.

August 7th - Wiki is restored and Jared2013 and Niftyrobo has been banned globally from entering FANDOM Wikia itself. The subreddit explodes with wiki rants due to the new admin team consisting of newfags. The new founder, DarkAnhilator, has gathered a source team, and the subreddit calms down.

September 15th - A Spanish YouTuber, ElRichMC makes a video on the server, causing his fans to join and spam the chat in Spanish. Despite the video being quite popular, ElRichMC decides not to make another video and the server returns to normal in a matter of a few weeks.

Mid September - Project Obsidian Sky is completed. The 500x500 region of spawn now has an obsidian roof at Y256. (Today in Mid 2018, most of the obsidian has been destroyed by withers).

Late September - Elytras are disabled due to large amounts of chunks being loaded in a short amount of time, causing both lag and the server file size to grow much too quickly. Elytras have been disabled for almost an entire year. The SOON™ meme appears all over the subreddit because of this.

October 13th - The owner announces removal of pre - June 1st queue.

October 13th - 20th - Bots fill the server in a vain attempt to kill it off, Drachenstein buys oldfags 2 months of priority

November 19th - 20th A redditor named PM_ME_YOUR_TITS_GIRL posted a render of 2b2t on r/gaming and r/minecraft

December 19th - Construction on the Cerulean Islands begins

December 20th - Astral Order is founded after the Purge of Eden

December 21st - VoCo declares the "Vo-Perium" war

December 23rd - X- Digger Team reaches the world border.

December 25th - Armorsmith and Co. planned to lag the server to 0 tps, and succeded to get it down to 0.5 before the owner personally destroyed the machine.

2018

This year is most known for two incursions (6th and 7th) and the grief of the BGM

January 1st - Team Inferno reforms into Infrared after all the insiding and griefing

January 10th - United Group Embassy is formed, an initial 15 groups joining.

January 11th - "Vo-Perium" concludes after very little ground is gained. Emperium and VoCo work on building positive relations.

February 4th - Offtopia's Viper Base griefed, led by Fit. Several more subreddit rants occur from this.

February 7th - The 2b2t Media Archive is founded by xyzvp

February 9th - Up to 17 U.G.E. representatives arrive at spawn and begin renovating.

February 13th - 16 U.G.E. representatives fight 4 members of Infrared and Highland at spawn. Renovations continue.

March 20th - Temp map begins while the main map is being transferred from a 4 Terabyte HDD to a 6 TB SSD[1], as it was rapidly approaching the upper size limit of its current hardware. Server traffic is lower than usual but still high. TPS range is around 10 to 13.

March 27th - Main map back up

March 28th - Severe rubberband and lag occours at high TPS as well as several plugins being removed temporarily which allowed for people to use "illegal items" for a short amount of time, as well as being able to use the nether roof while taking heavy amounts of damage.

March 31th - April 2nd - An unnamed April Fools' tempmap starts on March 31st, 2018, and ends April 2nd, 2018. During this period, AntVenom confirms he will be releasing his video on April 3rd. The Sixth Incursion is declared by Sato and the ender dragon on the temp map is killed by the new incursion.

April 2nd - 6th - 2nd tempmap after failure of reverting back the world.

April 3rd - The highly anticipated "Face of Minecraft Anarchy" video is released by AntVenom. New players flood the server. Total player counts reach about 350 at the most.

April 6th - The main map, with very bad timing, comes back online[1] and the owner adds AAC to the server, which causes frequent disconnects and problems in general.

April 12th - 14 million subscriber YouTuber PopularMMOs is seen logging onto the server and is geared by an unknown player. He is later seen at nether spawn and killed with an end crystal. He claims he is not making a video on the server, however not everyone is convinced.

April 16th - 24th - The Obsidian Wall, a wall surrounding 1000 cubic meters of spawn is constructed and finished by Sixth Incursion members. It is named the largest community project ever completed in server history. To get the obsidian necessary , "gulag" slave camps were set up around spawn and new players were captured and forced to mine enderchests to obtain obsidian. This is the first confirmed time slave labor is used in the server's history to complete a community project.

April 26th - The obsidian wall ends up being a failure due to the fact that players are dedicated enough to spend 7 minutes breaking 2 obsidian blocks. Spawn patrolling became a meme after the incursion members became so self-absorbed after the wall was built. Much of the wall got destroyed however it is still very recognizable in most places.

April 29th - The 2b2t Archaeological Society is founded by /r/ryanfortner3333

May 1st - Jared2013 starts "31Days31Greifs" which causes widespread damage across the server

May 3rd - Sixth Incursion ends and is deemed a success.

May 5th - Construction of Mokuzai Island starts.

May 10th - FitMC reveals secrets about the Age of Tyrrany to the general public.

May 18th - Empire's Edge, Emperium's main base, is leaked to the subreddit by an unknown user and the Emperium quickly removes their belongings and destroys the base before anyone else could.

May 25th - The Builders Haven project is founded by Beardler and managed by Jonathan5454

May 28th - All maps on the server are cleared in an attempt to stop more bases from being griefed in any way they might be. The Map Artists of 2b2t claim responsibility for it and most are understanding.

May 30th - The Boedecken, a large base kept secret for nearly two years, is greifed. FitMC makes base tour shortly after. jared2013 did not claim responsibility for the base's greif.

June 4th - 65k YouTuber BenMascott makes a video on the server, goes mostly unnoticed

June 7th - Server reaches 50,000 in-game days

June 10th - Large lag spike that lasts for 3 hours, TPS remains 0.6 for the whole time.

June 16th - Purgatory 2, the largest temp-base on 2b2t, was griefed as a revenge act against Beardlers actions.

October - New "banning" method involving max filled books with unicode is discovered. Players are "permanently" banned from the server if they are given a certain amount of these books, which will kick them out of the server due to an overflow in packets registered by the server, unless they e-mail Hausemaster to clear their inventories. The phenomena is known as "book banning".

November 7th - 9th - Beardler returns to 2b2t for 2 days and claims he will return in Mid/Late 2019

November 11th - New book related dupe discovered. Dupe causes lag spikes when performed due to constant chunk reloading.

November 17th - BGM (Block Game Mecca) was found to consist of mostly schematic builds, which put an impact on the bases outlook and originality.

November 23rd - 1.13 is announced for 2b2t coming “soon”

November - The 2b2t Wiki is 2 years old

November - Disbanded Infrared is reformed into Iridium

November 29th - The FuzeIII vs Fit duel occurs, Fit "wins".

Any player who loads this chunk is immediately disconnected from the server, and instantly disconnects upon rejoining in a way that is functionally similar to being book-banned. Dozens of players are chunk-banned due to the exploit.

Mercy Street Timeline

Link to an 1862 calendar, for days of the week and visualization purposes

MAY 1862 1.01-1.05, though Mary’s interview with Miss Dix may have occurred at the end of April.

1st-- The date on James Green’s newspaper in 1.01, which discusses the death of Mary Todd Lincoln’s Confederate half-brother. This paper is several days old.

5th-- The date of the Battle of Williamsburg, the news of which arrives at the end of 1.01.

5th or 6th-- Mary arrives, and the action of 1.01 occurs, depending on how quickly news travels.

6th or 7th-- 1.02 occurs the day after Mary’s arrival

8th-- The Battle of McDowell, where Ezra was injured. He was not brought directly to Mansion House.

11th to 16th-- Most likely dates for action of 1.03. Given allowances for travel times and a stay in a different hospital, earliest date of arrival for Ezra is the 11th. Given my estimate for 1.04, the 16th would be the latest time Ezra could have arrived, as Jed has at least a week’s worth of withdrawal symptoms in his notebook.

15th-- Battle of Drewry’s Bluff/Proctor’s Creek, referenced by Frank in 1.04 as the most recent Confederate victory.

20th to 25th-- Most likely dates for action of 1.04. There was no Confederate victory between May 15 and May 23. The 23rd is Friday, the 24th is Saturday, and the 25th is Sunday, and a ball is more likely to be held on a weekend. The beginning of the episode, with Frank’s reference to Drewry’s Bluff, probably happened a different day than the end of the episode and the party, because I doubt they would do all the preparing for the ball in just one day (though Emma doesn’t change clothes until the ball). It is also possible Frank does not have the latest news on Confederate victories, which could put him not knowing about Front Royal until a couple days after it happened. Aurelia is said to be “5-6 weeks along” and the earliest possible time for her impregnation is May 6th. But of course, pregnancy is calculated from the period prior to the missed one, so...

23rd-- Battle of Front Royal, Confederate victory referenced in 1.05 by Jane Green while cutting roses

25th-- Battle of Winchester, Confederate victory referenced in 1.05 by Jane Green while cutting roses

26th-- most likely date for action of 1.05, which takes place immediately after 1.04.

JUNE 1862 1.06 appears to take place over the course of the entire month of June over the course of three days, nonconsecutive. Day one could have occurred any time between June 1st and June 25th. Mercy Street appears to have fussed with the command timelines some, Colonel Sinex was the Provost Marshal of Alexandria until late August; Colonel Gregory, who is said to replace him on the show sometime in June, was the Military Governor of that city concurrent with Sinex’s service (That is, late April to late August, 1862). Also in that link is information on the slave pen prison and a fugitive slave case similar to the one Mrs. Foster could have drawn against Miles.

27th-- Union retreat to Harrison’s Landing, part of the Seven Days’ Battle.

28th-- Most likely date for Jimmy to bring word of Harrison’s Landing to his father in prison on day two of the episode. Also the date it is discovered that Bullen sold the chloroform. Will not have any more until approximately July 12, assuming Bullen’s estimate of two weeks is accurate. Three days until Lincoln’s visit.

JULY-AUGUST, 1862 1.06-2.04(?). July was a quiet month in the way of battles, so the dates on the first half of season 2 are more shaky than those in season 1. 2.01 takes place over the course of 3 days, nonconsecutive. The most likely place for a massive time lapse is here (you’ll see why we need one). 2.02 and 2.03 take place over the course of 1 day each, though 2.03 may be two days with the time lapse occurring between Emma’s return to the Green Mansion and the stirring of Dr. Hale. We do run into some timeline issues in season 2 in that the action of the entire season appears to take place over the course of approximately 1-1.5 months when the battles used as benchmarks are significantly more spread out. Dates suggested by storyline reckoning will be denoted by italic dates; dates suggested by battle dates reckoning (BDR) will be left in plain text, as will battle dates. BDR dates for episodes 2.01 and 2.02 will be worked backwards from known battle data for 2.03, as they do not contain any battle information.

JULY

1st-- Seven Days’ Battle ends with the Battle of Malvern Hill. Peninsula Campaign draws to a rapid close with a Confederate victory. Union Army in retreat. Date of Lincoln’s visit to the hospital. Day three of 1.06, day one of 2.01.

4th to 8th-- Most likely day for second day of 2.01, beginning with Charlotte’s arrival. Gives Lincoln a couple of days to sign Executive Order releasing James Green and for James to return home; for Bullen to recover enough to become conscious; for the paperwork on Summers’ promotion to go through. Jed refers to their kiss at the end of day one as “the other evening,” implying that it occurred fairly recently.

13th-- Battle of Murfreesboro results in a Confederate victory in Tennessee. Mrs. Green references it in 2.03 when comforting the wounded Confederate. There are no other Confederate victories until August 9.

15th to 17th-- Most likely dates for third day of 2.01, begins with McBurney’s arrival. Typhoid progresses to rosy spots and soon-to-be fainting spells approximately one week after infection. During Mary and Jed’s argument, Jed says it has been “Many days” since their conversation at the end of day 2.

21st-- Date of 2.02. On day three of 2.01, Samuel says his boat north leaves on “Tuesday next” and 2.02 takes place the day before that. The 22nd was a Tuesday.

22nd to 24th-- Most likely dates for 2.03. At the very least opens on the 22nd, with Emma leaving her vigil at Mary’s bedside from 2.02. Mary in midst of week 2 typhoid symptoms. Surprise is expressed over Samuel’s continued presence, but nobody asks him if he will miss his barge north, so it may not be taking place entirely the 22nd. Gives adequate time for Jane Green to hear of a victory in Tennessee on the 13th.

23rd to 25th-- Action of 2.04 most likely occurs (starting whichever day is immediately after 2.03), as it is stated that Lisette and Jed see each other for the first time in the US in this episode. She is still wearing her clothes from 2.03 and came to the hospital specifically to find Jed; she would not let it take long. Certainly not a whole month.

29th to 31st-- Latest possible dates for third day of 2.01. Rosy spots and fainting spells are both part of the second week of typhoid symptoms, so too many days cannot pass between the end of 2.01 and 2.02. The 29th is a Tuesday, so for Samuel’s schedule, “Tuesday next” would be the 5th. Though Jed does not strike me as one given to dramatic understatement, he may have been using that here with “many days,” as this is almost a full month since their argument at the end of day 2.

AUGUST

31st to 2nd-- Most likely day for action of 2.05, British Emissary arrives one week after James’ trip to Richmond where he says the man will be staying with him starting “next week.” He is to stay approximately one week and leaves prematurely.

4th-- Latest possible and so most likely date of 2.02

5th to 7th-- Latest possible and so most likely dates for 2.03, still allows for Samuel’s boat to be set to leave on a Tuesday, as August 5th was a Tuesday. See rationale for date range in “July 22nd to 24th” section. 2.03 *must* occur before Monday, August 11th, or Jane Green’s battlefield news is *significantly* outdated. Though it does seem foolish to presume the Confederate she is speaking to hasn’t heard of a three week old battle, Jane’s purpose is to comfort him so she may have decided it would help to repeat good news, especially since no less than 3 Union victories have occurred since July 13.

9th-- Battle of Cedar Mountain, next Confederate victory after Murfreesboro. Also the first battle in Virginia since July 1. Not mentioned in the show.

25th to 27th-- Battle of Manassas Station Ops. Fighting around Manassas begins, Confederate victory. Not mentioned in an episode.

28th to 30th-- Second Battle of Bull Run, fighting around Manassas continues, Confederate victory. In description of 2.04, this is described as taking place prior to the action of that episode, though is not mentioned in the text of the episode.

SEPTEMBER 1862 2.04?-2.06. At last we have decisive dates again, for 2.05 and 2.06 at least. Convention from previous section will continue until we finish with 2.04. 2.05 takes place over the course of one day, though it feels like several. 2.06 takes place over the course of two days. The BDR timeline appears to work cohesively with the text for 2.04-2.06; the disconnect is between 2.03 and 2.04, where even the latest battlefield dates necessitate approximately one month between the two episodes, where the text of the episode suggests a time lapse of 3 days or less between them.

1st-- Battle of Chantilly, which Jed says occurs 10 days before 2.05

5th-- Lee’s first invasion into Maryland begins, earliest date for fighting to occur at Germantown, Maryland-- where our darling Camilla’s regiment lays dying without aid and where Henry and Emma travel in 2.04.

6th to 9th-- Most likely dates for action of 2.04, which takes place over 2 days, consecutive (which dates depend on travel time and when exactly Germantown saw action). I’m leaning toward the sixth, because James says that the British Envoy will stay with them “next week.” Hospital appears to still be reeling from loss of Mary, and Anne is only just receiving the temporary head nurse position, despite Mary having left the hospital almost one month before, by the latest possible dates.

11th-- Action of 2.05, per Jed’s mention of Chantilly. 5 days after the 6th, so “next week” from James’ trip to Richmond and the day the British Envoy arrives, intended to stay approximately one week.

17th-- Battle of Antietam ends Lee’s first invasion of Maryland.

19th-- Lincoln issues Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. This day makes far more sense than the 21st for the action of the first day of 2.06 for the following reasons: the current newspaper at the end of the episode is dated with the 19th, the British Emissary would absolutely have the latest news (is implied to have arrived direct from DC at the end of the episode) and would refuse to spend even a night in the house of a man who defends slavery, the 19th was a Friday and Belinda’s man George goes to market “Every Tuesday and sometimes on Friday”

21st-- Per episode title card, first day of 2.06, closes with James Green reacting to the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.

22nd to 24th-- Second day of 2.06. Uncertain how many days passed since end of first day, though certainly not more than a week or so. 23rd is Tuesday, so Belinda and George would absolutely be meeting in the market on that day. Almost certainly the 23rd.

If you disregard the battle timeline data from 2.03 (ie: that Murfreesboro is the most recent Confederate victory) and work backwards, the timeline works much better. The only questionable remaining dates are the absolutely MASSIVE time lapses in 2.01, which dates, from language used, appear to have taken place relatively close together. The *only* way it makes sense for Mary to have been “beguiled” only once by Jed is for day 2 to take place relatively soon after day 1. There’s a lot more leeway between day 2 and day 3 as Mary was studiously avoiding Jed, but it seems unlikely that it would take more than a month for the day 3 confrontation. Based on the text (disregarding all battlefield data) there appears to be approximately 15 days between the end of 2.01 and the end of 2.05. If we assume that the Emissary stayed for approximately one week (as projected at the beginning of 2.05), it’s 25 days maximum between the end of 2.01 and the end of 2.06 (which puts the end of 2.01 smack in the middle of 2nd Bull Run, if you were wondering). I knew there was a reason season 2 felt so much more rushed than season one; they left out the time lapses in the storytelling, but not in the historical data!

Weekly Announcements for Week of 4/5-4/11

Dear SBSC families,  Practice Schedule Our hope was to be back in a few weeks. After the governor's latest announcement we are unsure of when our first day back in the water will be. As soon as I know more I will pass the info along. Message To Our AthletesDO NOT LOSE HOPE!! We will be back and we will be swimming fast again before you know it. But you need to be ready. Stay active, eat healthy, stay hydrated, and make sure you are keeping a regular sleep schedule. As I mentioned in an earlier email we have partnered with Ritter Sports Performance and they will be designing our dry-land program for our athletes. They will be given access to an app and the ability to find tailored workouts they can do on their own at home right now. Our plan is to have everything in place so our athletes can start on April 13th. We hope to have access to the app by the middle of this week so our athletes have time to ask any questions before we start. As soon as I am given the access code I will forward on to you. Until then keep doing any of the workouts I have included in the previous emails. Also, if you haven't already make sure to download and sign up for an account on USA Swimming's Deck Pass. This might also be a good time to sign up for your swimmer's free account on Collegeswimming.com (soon to be swimcloud.com). As discussed earlier this is the first place most college coaches go to start the recruiting process. In fact I received an email last week from Grand Valley State about one of our swimmers. When asked he said he had pulled up this swimmer's profile on that site. Here is another great race between Matt Biondi and Tom Jager. The two premier American sprinters of their era. See if your swimmer can point out ways for these two to go any faster. Technique has changed a considerable amount since this 1990 race. Spring/Summer Registration Swimmers that are currently registered for the fall/winter season do not need to register for the upcoming season. There memberships will automatically be renewed. The registration is for any new families or former families who were not part of the team during the fall or winter. Here is the link. Families that are returning for this season will not see any additional charges until we know for sure when we will be back in the water. I would ask all of our families who have a Facebook account to share our registration post. Thank you to those that have shared our club post or the post from my personal page. New USA Swimming Guidelines-MAAPPUSA Swimming issued a directive with regards to electronic communication and social media contact between coaches and athletes. Most of what is being implemented is common sense and falls in line with our club's policies. One new requirement we will need to adhere to is how your minor child communicates with me. For several years I have asked swimmers in Group 2 and Group 3 to text/email me if they would be missing practice. Moving forward, swimmers will be instructed to include a parent on all communication with me.  If you are the parent of a Group 2 or Group 3 swimmer, and have never sent me a text before, please text me so I have your contact info in my phone. Joe’s Weather World: Where is the worst lightning in the Metro every year and when (FRI-2/14)

So this blog will be a bit different and is something that IF you have interests in thunderstorm trends…lightning trends in particular, you may want to bookmark for future reading and reference.

I came across some NOAA data the other day with detailed information about the time of day…time of year…and frequency of lightning strikes in every county across the US…so obviously I wanted to check out the KC Metro. I have data through for all counties in the region so FB or email me for the counties outside the Metro and I’ll get that information too you.

I realize that the data isn’t exactly what you’re thinking about on a cold winter morning…but if I don’t write/show it now…I’ll probably forget about it in the Spring when the timing warrants it plus our weather will be settling down a bit over the weekend.

Forecast:

Today: Sunny skies with clouds coming from the west later today. Highs in the upper 20s. A bit more of a breeze this afternoon making it feel chillier

Tonight: Variable clouds>cloudy skies and not as cold with steady temperatures in the mid 20s

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy and breezy with highs in the lower 40s

Sunday: Milder with highs in the closer to 50° but warmer if we have less snow on the ground.

So I’ll skip the day to day weather stuff for this blog.

Let’s talk lightning! Each year the region receives hundreds of thunderstorms. Their just part of the weather around these parts from the spring through the fall. The time of the year where we see the most lightning is typically in the later spring through mid summer months.

Each year dozens are killed nationwide from lightning. Last year 20 lost their lives…

In previous years…doubled that many lost their lives.

Of the deaths last year…many were doing outside activities like fishing…running…camping etc.

Locally our region sees 100s of thousands of lighting strikes decade. Some storms have thousands over their lifetime and some of these clusters of storms can live for hours on end.

For the 1st time data is available showing the particulars of lightning frequency and and timing during the day. It’s from NOAA and I want to share it with you.

All the data is via the National Lightning Display Network/Vaisala

Let’s start with Platte County, MO. The data below shows the percentage of years with at least one lightning strike for a particular week of the year between a 1 hour time frame.

So the data above reveals that the highest chance of having at least one lightning strike in Platte Co would be the week of June 11th>17th between 9-10 PM. The frequency was 57% in the 30 years covered by the data…through 2017.

In those 30 years though…well over 175,000 strikes have been recorded there with the most happening between 8/20 and 8/26 (cumulative through the day) but again for specific hours there are actually more active times especially in mid June

Now lets go into Clay County…

For Clay County the most frequent time for lightning is the week of June 11th>17th from 6-7PM

Over 191,000 strikes…with the biggest week in terms of sheer numbers being the week of July 16th>22nd.

Here is the information from Wyandotte Co…fewer strikes overall because of the smaller size of the county compared to other larger counties in the region. There also wasn’t one time period that stood out…several one hour maxes of 37 were noted through the year

In terms of the shear volume of strikes though 70,000 is nothing to sneeze at…August 20th>26th was the big week overall.

In Johnson Co, KS…

June 11th>17th between 9-10 PM was the winner with the highest chance of at least one strike

What is interesting is the uptick in the frequency of lightning over the study period…over 210,000 strikes

The week of August 20th>26th was big in JOCO while the that week between 10-11PM recorded the most overall strikes with close to 5000.

In JACO, MO…

The week of August 20th>26th between 12-1AM had the highest risk of at least one strike.

However with close to 4,000 actual cumulative strikes the week of 8/27>9/2 was a standout. Of major note is the total number in JACO with over 290,000 strikes in the study period.

Cass County had over 315,000 strikes

Johnson Co, MO had over 323,000 strikes.

Miami County had over 255,000

Douglas Co had over 220,000 strikes in the study period.

Again I have all this data for the region as a whole.

So a question…why is there more lightning in the Metro in the southern counties as opposed to the northern counties…the difference from Buchanon Co (162,000) to Johson Co MO is close to 200,000 strikes or more than 6600 per year. Could the heat island effect of the Metro overall play a role in this…either creating storms or making them stronger to generate more lightning then as they move away the increase the frequency of strikes downwind of the Metro? Just a thought.

Anyway this is great information for all emergency managers and others with outside interests…county fair organizers etc. and in general

There are caveats to the data…it is considered “experimental” and in reading through some of the research notes there has been an increase in the quality of reporting from the late 80s to the later time frame of the data (2010s)

I might put together a story on this for the spring and our severe weather week.

Dear SBSC families,  Practice Schedule With Governor Holcomb's announcement we hope to back in the water the day they open the schools. As of today our plan is to be back at practice on May 1st. Message To Our AthletesI am sending out a plea to all of our swimmers. You need to stay active!! I suggest everyone, if they haven't already, to download the Q swim App. There is a small subscription fee but I believe it is well worth it. If you are new to the app or it's been awhile start by going to the test section and test your swim specific shapes. You can also follow them on Instagram. They have promised to publish daily content during the quarantine. Another great account to follow on Instagram is Gain Swimming. They to have been posting content that swimmers can do at home. Swimoutlet.com is also publishing daily workouts on their Instagram account. GoSwimTV has also offered free memberships for their seemingly endless supply of videos. Here is the link. I also sat in on a webinar this week on nutrition and the site host has agreed to let us share the entire webinar and notes with our members. To help keep our swimmers motivated here is a link to one of my all time favorite races. It was the 2002 Nationals 400 IM between Michael Phelps and Erik Vendt. Spring/Summer Registration Swimmers that are currently registered for the fall/winter season do not need to register for the upcoming season. There memberships will automatically be renewed. The registration is for any new families or former families who were not part of the team during the fall or winter. Here is the link. Families that are returning for the spring and summer will not see any additional charges on their accounts until May 1st. I would ask all of our families who have a Facebook account to share our registration post. Thank you to those that have shared our club post or the post from my personal page. As of this morning the post has been shared 39 times. All post shares will be entered into a drawing for a $25 credit to their swim club account. Spring Championship Meets I heard back from USA Swimming and they said the Speedo Sectional fees will be refunded in the next 30 days. Also, for those interested in gear from Age Group State or Senior State meet you can purchase T-shirts and other merchandise by clicking here for AGS and her for Sr. State. There is also an opportunity to purchase gear from Speedo Sectionals. You purchase that gear by clicking here. New USA Swimming Guidelines-MAAPPUSA Swimming issued a directive with regards to electronic communication and social media contact between coaches and athletes. Most of what is being implemented is common sense and falls in line with our club's policies. One new requirement we will need to adhere to is how your minor child communicates with me. For several years I have asked swimmers in Group 2 and Group 3 to text/email me if they would be missing practice. Moving forward, swimmers will be instructed to include a parent on all communication with me.  If you are the parent of a Group 2 or Group 3 swimmer, and have never sent me a text before, please text me so I have your contact info in my phone. This way if I need to contact your swimmer about missing practice I can be sure to include you. My cell phone number is 574-276-6057.  I encourage all parents and swimmers to read the full policy. Message To Our AthletesI

am sending out a plea to all of our swimmers. You need to stay active!! This could be doing something as simple as walking around your neighborhood. If at all possible subscribe to the YouTube channel Swimming Specific Yoga. If you can try to stay active for 30-45 minutes. You can also always do a round of Ted's Abs as well. If I find any other suitable dry-land videos I will share them as well.

We will, at minimum, be out of the water for 7 weeks before we are allowed to practice again. In the whole scheme of things 7 weeks without swimming is not the end of the world. But we will only have 12 weeks of training prior to Swim Fest (combined Senior and Age Group State meets) and Summer Divisionals are only one week later. My point being, is we need to hit the ground running the moment we are allowed back in the water. Our practices will ramp up in length and intensity much more rapidly then we have in the past. You need to be ready!

To keep myself engaged and motivated I have been watching any swimming video I can get my hands on. In the past 10 days I have possibly watched more then I have in my entire life. Here is a great Swimming World article and video of the 1976 USA Swimming Olympic Trials 400 Free. Read the article then watch the race, you will not be disappointed. Bethany Galat USA National Team

Congratulations to former SBSC swimmer Bethany Galat. Last week while competing for USA Swimming's National Team at the Pan Pacs Bethany swam to a Silver Medal in the 200 Breast posting the 6th fastest time in the world!

Fall and Winter Season

Our on-line registration for the fall and winter is now open. Our first practices will be the Tuesday after Labor Day, September 3rd. The fall/winter meet schedule is finalized with the exception of the end of season championship meets. We will be attending some different meets this winter with the hopes more swimmers will be able to participate. We are scheduled for two meets at the new Elkhart Aquatic Center in November If anyone has any questions about the schedule, just let me know.

I have started the fall practice schedule and I hope to have at least the first two months for both sites completed by the end of the week. Once I am able to get high school meet schedules I will do the remaining months. Just as a reminder, the calendar on our website is tentative and is for planning purposes only. Our schedule could change without much notice. The weekly emails are the most up to date schedule we will have. If there are any last minute changes those will be communicated through email and our social media sites.

Easy Money

Thank you to the 5 families that have already registered. Every year the majority of our families wait until the day of or day before our first practice to sign up. This has left us a little short handed for practices. To alleviate this I am making the offer to all of our returning families if they register before midnight on August 18th you will be entered in a drawing to win $25 credit to your swim club account. As of this morning only 10 of our returning families have registered. Please, if you are planning on being part of the club register soon.

For those of you on Facebook you may have seen our post/advertisement about the fall registration. The post has been shared 40 times! If you share this post you will also be entered in a drawing to win $25 credit to your swim club account.

Finally we are offering an incentive to families who bring in new swimmers. For every new Group 1 swimmer credited to your family you could earn a $10 credit, for Group 2 $15, and for Group 3 $20. These credits will appear on your swim club account after the new swimmers have gone through their 2nd month billing cycle. For example, if a swimmer registers in September you will see the credit on your account November 2nd.

Advertising Credit A Group 2 or Group 3 annual membership plus all the other associated fees with our membership -- spirit wear, meet surcharges, technology fees, concession stand/hospitality fees, USA Swimming-- is approximately $550 for an entire year. (A Group 1 annual membership is about $100 less.) If you were able to sell two of the Premiere+ adds it could easily pay for a whole year of swimming including meet entry fees! Selling a one year ad to one company could earn you anywhere from $50 to almost $500. Here is the link for more information. Another easy way to earn credit for your swim club account is to hang our recruiting posters out in the public. For every poster you hang you will receive a $5 credit up to $25.
