Al Madam Al Madam is an inland town in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is also a ghost town, a place that has long been abandoned. Silence surrounds the entire place, which is known locally as the ‘Buried Village’. At one time Al Madam was a tiny hamlet. According to locals it was once inhabited by the people of Al Kutbi tribe (they are among the three prominent tribes living in the vicinity of Al Madam). What actually happened here? Why is the town that once flourished now covered in sand? Legend has it that there could be a nasty ‘djinn’ (a supernatural creature the Muslim community believes in) responsible for driving the residents away. It is also believed that the unwelcoming desert may be the reason for driving people away. Al Madam Be ready to walk a lot if ever you decide to explore the “abandoned village” of Al Madam. As you approach the village you’ll find well-built houses half covered in sand. It’s a sad sight and according to those who have ventured to Al Madam you will sense the presence of unseen negative vibes. Most of these houses were constructed in 1970s - 1980s under a housing project in Emirates. Upon entering one of the deserted buildings you’ll notice huge piles of sand and dunes within the walls of what once must have been a cosy bedroom or dining room. Keep walking, and you’ll find an empty mosque. The overall experience of Al Madam is reported to be spooky. People who have visited describe a constant feeling of being watched that will fill your heart with dread and play tricks with your mind.
