WIP Wednesday
Instead of a new WIP, here’s a glimpse of an old WIP that features a prototype of one of my OCs, Felicity. A ton has changed since then, but I really like this opening and would like to reuse it somewhere eventually. It’s a bit of a long one, so click through if it sounds interesting!
---------
Hancock was really tired of seeing Deacon's stupid face. While he admired the concept of what Deacon did, Hancock found the man himself too quick to lie and not quick enough to help people who weren't synths. Despite his personal feelings, the Railroad helped people who couldn't help themselves so he held the organization in high esteem and did what he could to make their operations in Goodneighbor easier. Though in the wake of the assault on the Institute, it meant he met with Deacon far more than he was happy with. Now, Deacon was coming to him with a request for a favor.
“I'm getting a little sick of you calling in favors,” Hancock said as he sat behind his desk, for once. “I took care of Finn when he started harassing your ‘packages’ that came into town, and that's going to cost us when the next round of Super Mutants come knocking. Now you come asking for more?”
“I know, I know and don't get me wrong, we're grateful for everything you've done for us, but I'm not asking for us. I'm asking for Nate,” Deacon said. It was hard to read Deacon, with or without his damn sunglasses, but Hancock was sure he was on the level about this. Hancock didn't have a true soft spot for many individuals, but Nate Pendleton was one of them. There was no way he'd say no to the General.
“So explain to me why this one is special,” Hancock said with a resigned sigh. “I've seen you two rescue synth after synth and I've never been asked to babysit. Why not let the system handle this one too?”
Deacon gave an uncomfortable cough and looked away. “You heard that the Institute made a child synth of Shaun, right?”
“I remember. Nate was worried Piper wouldn't warm up to the kid,” Hancock filled in. He humored the non sequitur with the hope it would lead to an actual answer.
“Yeah, and good for him, she loves Shaun,” Deacon told him. That made Hancock feel good. If someone deserved a little peace and a family, it was Nate. “But that wasn't the only synth they made to try to get him to go along with their plans. Only he's pretty sure Piper won't accept this one quite as well.”
“Are you going to tell me?” Hancock prompted. This was the sort of waffling he disliked from Deacon when he really needed to just get to the point.
“Maybe it's better if you meet her,” Deacon said. Hancock's brow raised and gestured to the door.
“Fine, bring her in.”
The woman, synth but woman all the same, who came through the door at Deacon's prompting was dressed in clothes clearly borrowed from Fahrenheit. The road leathers hung loosely on her thin frame but she didn't have the nervous look that was common for recently freed synths. Her hair was long, dark, and healthier than anyone he'd seen in the wasteland. She was certainly pretty, with a glow to her skin that even other synths, soft as they were before coming to the surface, lacked.
“So this is the mayor here,” Deacon told her. “He’s going to help while we get everything figured out.” It took a lot for Hancock not to roll his eyes.
“John Hancock,” he introduced to the woman. “Though for the record, I never actually agreed to babysit.” Her face lit up at his name, her eyes were a ray of sunshine after a radstorm, her lips tilted up in response to a joke he hadn’t told.
“Nora Pendleton,” she introduced. That was a surprise. Nate had never mentioned his late wife's name, not to Hancock at least, but Deacon's little preamble along with the familiar last name said everything it needed to. He could understand why Nate's new lady love might object to this synth in particular. She stuck out her hand and Hancock smiled and met her halfway to shake. It was an old world tradition, but his father had taught him the value of a good handshake and he was certain his father would have been utterly charmed by hers.

Author’s Bio...
My name is Shaun Williams (AKA “Crazy Eights” to some.) I am a resident of Clifton, Texas. I moved to Clifton at the age of 14 and went through high school here. I enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 17 and shipped out to boot camp at MCRD San Diego two weeks after high school graduation. I enlisted to be a jet engine mechanic originally and went through my first jet engine school in Pensacola, Fl. I was afforded the opportunity to switch over to rotary wing and accepted the offer then went through a helicopter mechanic school on Campe Pendleton in California. I worked several different jobs in the Marines, though, and never really got stuck in one place for too long. I deployed in 2010 and traveled to several different countries across the Pacific and Middle East. During deployment I worked combat cargo and as a helicopter mechanic primarily. I got the opportunity to engage in VBSS operations (counter piracy ops) and take over Somalian pirates as well as humanitarian missions in East Timur and Pakistan. I spent about two months in Jordan in support of Operations Desert Fox which was a joint op aimed at training the Jordanian military to go into Afghanistan. I got out of the Marines in 2012 after four years. I wanted to stay and deploy again but had injured my knee in Jordan and was medically separated with an honorable discharge. I returned to Clifton following my service and began working at L-3 Communications as a mechanic on Navy P-3 airplanes. I worked there until L-3 did a few rounds of mass layoffs due to government budget cuts. I then worked building hydraulic lifts, airplane engines again after that, then I spent two years working as the Maintenance Suprrvisor for a feed mill here in Clifton. During a portion of that time I also stood up a non profit organization that’s helps veterans, served as the Clifton Archery Club non profit President for two years, and also served as a district officer for Texas Bikers group. I got married and had a daughter. She’s a beautiful little red head now four years old. Her mother and I are no longer together. I am by no means perfect, folks, and do not claim to be. I didn’t realize how much some things out of my past and out of the Marines affected me for quite some time and still do. A lot of people go to bed at night and, we’ll, I don’t know what they see in their mind as they slowly drift off, but I usually see body parts, pools of blood, helicopter wreckage, things like that. Then I fall asleep and play movies in my head of helicopters crashing and fighting a relentless enemy. Let’s just say that I don’t get many good nights sleep. Anyhow, I didn’t realize what all of that was and what it was doing to me but I got pretty lost for a while and found alcohol to be the best answer for a bit. That had a lot to do with why my wife left. I did start drinking too much. I was reserved. I pulled away from her and everyone. Then she left and that only made things worse. Then I started getting harassed by the Clifton PD and that made it a little worse. Then I lost my job and it got worse yet. I wasn’t drowning myself in the bottle, so to speak, but I was drinking too much. Then the VA had prescribed me Hydrocodone for pain and I found myself getting to like those a little too much. A Hydro and a whiskey and coke became my sleeping medicine for a little while. My wife left in April, our divorce that she filed was granted in August, and she remarried in December. That took a toll more than she’ll ever know. Perhaps it was my fault but It was rough nonetheless. A counselor at the VA ended up talking me into attending a PTSD program with the VA. It was a two month program which required staying up at the VA Monday through Friday and attending classes. I was pleased with the program. It was nice to meet other vets from all branches who were going through some of the same stuff. My point in disclosing some of the aforementioned information is simply for transparency; I have nothing to hide. Just as we all are so am I just a mixture of this and of that, a combination of choices and experiences. I’ve got a 144 IQ according to the last test I took so I’m no dummy but I don’t claim to be a genius either. My personality matches less than 3% of the entire U.S. population but I try to get along with everyone. I’m living and learning. I make mistakes. I don’t always make the right choices. Sometimes I let my emotions override my logic and sometimes I allow logic to completely shroud my emotions. Well, that’s about me summarized.

Welcome to the seventh instalment of the “Garmsman Dozen” question and answer session. The response so far has been tremendous. Did you miss earlier ones? There are links at the end of the page.
This week we welcome Even from Norway!
Who are you, where do you live and what interests you?
Even Ramsvik, 34  – I live in Lille Tøyen Hageby in Oslo. Previously holder of a Michelin star and now I am the CEO and co-owner of Lava Oslo a restaurant group that counts 12 different restaurants, bars, brewery and canteens. Father of two – Elliot 8 & April 1 – Interested in Art, clothing & building cafe racers of vintage motorcycles. Instagram: @evenramsvik
How would you describe your style today, and what are your influences?
I would describe my style as «work wear with a modern addition of streetwear» — I like to feel that I have a typical look for myself – It is quite influenced by the brands that I like the most of course but I usually end up with the same kind of elements usually in different fabrics, bakers jackets, fatigue pants, boots and a nice vest goes a long way.
How do you think others would describe your style and garments, do you get any reaction from friends and random strangers?
I heard from a friend that someone called my style «poor from a distance» meaning that from a distance I usually can be wearing typical work-wear but as you get nearer you can tell that it is high-level quality clothing – I thought that was a quite funny description.  I really appreciate though getting remarks on my style and clothes –
When looking for clothes, what factors play into your selections?
I would love to say that the biggest factor is the need, but that’s quite far from the truth… I can really get quite conscious about my spending on clothes, that I spend too much in these days when consuming is a big factor, but I always convince my self that I have found my style, I will never change and the garments I get are timeless, some of them collectable and of a certain quality that I can be wearing for many many years to come – So quality is a huge factor – Of course I have some favorite brands but the brand itself is not important to me. I would say quality, style and ethical production are the most important factors.
When putting together an outfit combination, do you spend a lot of time considering it?
Not really – most of my clothes get together quite easily, I usually give it a thought the night before when I check the weather report:) – If anything I spend more time making sure that my outfit is not too much of an outfit… if that makes sense:) – If it looks too much like you have spent time matching colours and maybe too many accessories also can throw me off.
Most garmsmen will have a few “grail items” in their collection. Not to out you, but if your house is burning, which garments do you grab?
My grail objects would probably not be of my everyday clothes but custom suits from T-Michael – They are unique and exquisite and one of a kind – Otherwise it would be a 3 pcs by Engineered Garments that I am particularly fond of.
What would you never wear?
I truly love Norwegian autumn – It suits my wardrobe perfectly both visually and temperature wise. I can use all of my boots – wool pants, layers of nice shirts, vests and most of my jackets. It is so much more fun to assemble an outfit in autumn – But my biggest issue is the summer time… I still haven’t really found a nice variety of clothes I am comfortable with in the summer – linen makes me feel like a drug lord and shorts… I can’t help it, I feel like a child when I’m wearing shorts – on the beach and in my garden, yes, otherwise I guess I will be sweating instead…
Do you have a dream garment you’d love to own?
I am currently dreaming of a Pendleton jacket with a native pattern – It is truly unique and beautiful – a bit pricey though.
Do you have any style icons, historic or current?
Steve McQueen! Bob Dylan & Tony Sylvester (fashion journalist and frontman of Norwegian deathpunk band Turbonegro).
15. Who are your favourite Instagram profiles?
@therealmccoyslondon
@americanclassicslondon @mensfilemagazine @clutchmagazinejapan @flykicks_oslo @craftedparis is probably the best in my opinion.
Do you make any of your own clothes?
Yes! Not for myself yet but I have made for others – truly an amateur but I buy patterns from Merchant & Mills – By now I have made a shirt and a jacket – Hope to be making a lot more in the future! And sourcing fabric is high on my agenda.
How do you see your style evolving going forwards?
I feel quite confident on my style now – If I were to see it evolve it would be in a direction that is more time consuming, to get objects with even more storytelling and historical background – I would love to move towards more vintage WWII/ military, American classics etc –
Thank you, Even!
Did you miss the first Garmsman Dozens?
Jon from Great Britain
Shaun from Scotland
Klaus from Germany
Roland from Italy
Daniel from Sweden
Enoch from the USA

‘Expansion Escapees’ or the ‘Gold Giants’?
THE INSATIABLE Victorian interest in Giants midfielder Josh Kelly – including North Melbourne’s $9 million, nine-year offer – has again shone the spotlight on the expansion clubs’ player retention.
Kelly’s Greater Western Sydney teammate Dylan Shiel recommitted this week, but another big name, 2012 No.1 draft pick Lachie Whitfield, also remains on the recruiting radar.
The pendulum has swung wildly since some prominent people screamed bloody murder as Gold Coast and GWS splashed money to litter their inaugural lists with mature-age stars from rival sides.
Much was written about the Suns’ initial list decision failings in 2011, suffering in comparison to the Giants’ approach of attracting younger top-liners in entering the competition a year later.
RECRUITS FROM OTHER AFL CLUBS Gold Coast: Gary Ablett (Geelong), Michael Barlow (Fremantle), Daniel Currie (Sydney, North Melbourne), Jarrad Grant (Western Bulldogs), Mitch Hallahan (Hawthorn), Pearce Hanley (Brisbane), Jarrod Harbrow (Western Bulldogs), Jarryd Lyons (Adelaide), Michael Rischitelli (Brisbane), Matt Rosa (West Coast), Jarrod Witts (Collingwood)
GWS: Phil Davis (Adelaide), Matt de Boer (Fremantle), Brett Deledio (Richmond), Ryan Griffen (Western Bulldogs), Steve Johnson (Geelong), Shane Mumford (Geelong, Sydney), Tendai Mzungu (Fremantle), Joel Patfull* (Brisbane), Sam Reid (Western Bulldogs), Tom Scully (Melbourne), Heath Shaw (Collingwood), Dawson Simpson (Geelong), Callan Ward (Western Bulldogs) *Patfull has retired, but is on the rookie list
The Sydneysiders’ 102-point demolition of Rodney Eade’s men in round two was their fifth straight victory over them, by an average margin of 56.4 points.
But the developing story is the increasing number of footballers performing elsewhere after starting their AFL career with one of the expansion clubs.
Some left by choice, such as Adam Treloar, Dion Prestia and Charlie Dixon, while others like Maverick Weller, Henry Schade and Nathan Krakouer were cut loose.
Gold Coast reject Schade and 2011 GWS top-five pick Will Hoskin-Elliott starred last week in Collingwood’s upset win in Sydney, alongside ex-Giants Treloar and Taylor Adams.
Carlton has also taken a well-publicised interest in the boys from Sydney Olympic Park, with former GWS list manager Stephen Silvagni now filling the same role with the Blues.
Eight ex-Giants, including Lachie Plowman, Caleb Marchbank and Jarrod Pickett, and one-time Suns big man Daniel Gorringe feature at Ikon Park.
EX-GWS AND GOLD COAST PLAYERS ON AFL LISTS Adelaide: Curtly Hampton (GWS) Brisbane Lions: Jake Barrett (GWS) Carlton: Kristian Jaksch, Jed Lamb, Caleb Marchbank, Rhys Palmer, Andrew Phillips, Jarrod Pickett, Lachie Plowman, Liam Sumner (GWS), Daniel Gorringe (Gold Coast) Collingwood: Taylor Adams, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Adam Treloar (GWS), Henry Schade (Gold Coast) Essendon: James Stewart (GWS) Fremantle: Harley Bennell (Gold Coast), Cam McCarthy (GWS) Geelong: Zac Smith (Gold Coast) Hawthorn: Jaeger O’Meara (Gold Coast), Jonathan O’Rourke (GWS) Melbourne: Tomas Bugg, Sam Frost, Pat McKenna, Dom Tyson (GWS) North Melbourne: Jed Anderson, Paul Ahern (GWS) Port Adelaide: Charlie Dixon, Nathan Krakouer (Gold Coast), Jack Hombsch, Jake Neade (GWS) Richmond: Dion Prestia, Josh Caddy (Gold Coast), Anthony Miles, Jacob Townsend (GWS), St Kilda: Josh Bruce, Jack Steele (GWS), Tom Hickey, Maverick Weller (Gold Coast) Sydney Swans: Shaun Edwards (GWS) West Coast: Jonathan Giles (GWS) Western Bulldogs: Tom Boyd (GWS)
Collingwood and Richmond have the equal second-most players from the expansion clubs with four each.
Magpie Josh Thomas, a Queensland junior representative, also knocked back a Gold Coast contract offer in a further connection.
Port Adelaide’s Jake Neade and North Melbourne’s Jed Anderson, who first joined Hawthorn, were Northern Territory zone selections for GWS, but were swapped for draft picks.
So much talent has departed the AFL’s two newest clubs to lists elsewhere that AFL.com.au was comfortably able to pick an imaginary line-up in position, dubbed the ‘Expansion Escapees’.
There is genuine quality on every line, with particular strength in the midfield and key forward slots, although some licence was taken to create the final 22.
The one criterion was the players were on an AFL list this season.
The task was not so easy the other way for the ‘Gold Giants’, despite many first-class footballers making their way to the Suns and Giants.
Phil Davis is the only true key defender in the bunch – with Joel Patfull retired, but still on the GWS rookie list – leaving specialist ruckman Jarrod Witts in the unfamiliar centre-half back post.
Sam Reid and Jarrad Grant are also the unlikely tall targets in attack.
But the team is blessed with ruck depth, headed by Shane Mumford, and boasts an enormous midfield rotation that could field numerous competitive combinations.
Let’s suppose the match is played at the Giants’ former Blacktown base, just to keep former mayor Alan Pendleton happy. Who wins?
EXPANSION ESCAPEES BEST 22 B: Lachie Plowman, Henry Schade, Caleb Marchbank HB: Nathan Krakouer, Jack Hombsch, Maverick Weller C: Josh Caddy, Dom Tyson, Taylor Adams HF: Harley Bennell, Charlie Dixon, Jaeger O’Meara F: Will Hoskin-Elliott, Josh Bruce, Tom Boyd Foll: Tom Hickey, Adam Treloar, Dion Prestia Inter: Cam McCarthy, Zac Smith, Jack Steele, Jake Neade
GOLD GIANTS BEST 22 B: Heath Shaw, Phil Davis, Matt Rosa HB: Pearce Hanley, Jarrod Witts, Jarrod Harbrow C: Ryan Griffen, Tom Scully, Brett Deledio HF: Steve Johnson, Sam Reid, Michael Barlow F: Jarryd Lyons, Jarrad Grant, Michael Rischitelli Foll: Shane Mumford, Gary Ablett, Callan Ward Inter: Matt de Boer, Tendai Mzungu, Mitch Hallahan, Dawson Simpson

OC interview meme - penn
Tumblr media
(under the readmore because it’s long as fuuuuck)
1. What is your name?
Spencer Troy Pendleton, but I prefer Penn. Or General.
2. Do you know why you’re named that?
Nope.
3. Single or Taken?
Uh, single.
4. Have any powers or abilities?
I want to say super-genius but truthfully I’m barely above average.
5. Stop being a Mary Sue.
What the fuck is a Mary-Sue??
6. What’s your eye color?
Wait, you didn’t answer my- they’re blue. You’re looking right at me.
7. How about hair color?
Okay, this is fucking absurd, you’re literally right there. Looking at me. Use your eyes.
8. Have any family members?
That’s a sore subject.
9. How about pets?
Dogmeat’s only partially my pet, he’s pretty much his own man. Or.... dog. Stray dogs sometimes like me.
10. That’s cool I guess. Now tell me something you don’t like.
Stupid questions... And bugs. Why the fuck did bugs have to mutate into being huge? Why not cats? Or giant puppies?
11. Any hobbies or activities you like to do?
Robotics, mostly. Mechanical things in general. I’m learning how to build things like houses and water purifiers and things of that nature, but it’s more of a chore than anything.  Reading is nice as well, but there aren’t many intact books left nowadays.
12. Ever hurt anyone in any way before?
Is that a legitimate question? I live in the wasteland. If I didn’t I’d be dead. Emotionally is a different story, however the answer is still yes. Everyone has.
13. Ever killed anyone?
Are you deaf? Yes. I. Have. I have to.
14. What kind of animal are you?
In a literal sense or a metaphorical one? I’m going to assume metaphorical. A bird, most likely. Like one of those crows that fly everywhere.
15. What are your worst habits?
Smoking, drinking, doing drugs, stealing, being manipulative, killing people... If I go on we’ll be here all day.
16.  Do you look up to anyone at all?
Nick and Preston are both genuinely good people. I definitely admire them. Danse is... flawed, but he means well-ish. I suppose you could count Piper if you wanted to really stretch the idea, but I do admire how well she’s taken care of Nat.
17. Gay, straight, or bisexual?
Tough question, considering my lack-of-a-gender, but I say gay for simplicity’s sake. I like men.
18. Do you go to school?
Not anymore. Even before the bombs I had to drop out of high school to help my dad with Shaun.
19. Ever want to get married and have kids?
Sure, I love kids. There’s definitely plenty of orphans around the commonwealth for me to be able to adopt, but I do have other obligations right now.
20. Have any fangirls/boys?
Uh, no, not as far as I know?
21. What are you most afraid of?
The cold.
22. What do you usually wear?
My jacket and vault suit. Sometimes I get wild and wear some goggles.
23. What’s one food that tempts you?
Cram… God, you think it’s going to taste so good and then it’s just mushy cardboard flavor. The texture is nice.
24. Am I annoying to you?
Slightly.
25. Well it’s still not over.
Oh boy.
26. What class are you?
Class like social status? That doesn’t really… exist much, anymore. Middle, I suppose? I get by. Nothing too glamorous, but I have to work hard.
27. How many friends do you have?
Oh, jeez. Like three or four? I have quite a few acquaintances.
28. What are your thoughts on pie?
Oh boy, what flavor? Pff, sorry, pre-war joke. Pie is fine.
29. Favorite drink?
Nuka-Cola Quantum. It’s radioactive as all hell, but by god if it doesn’t taste amazing. I’ve been trying to make a recipe for homemade Quantum for a year now.
30. Favorite place?
There’s this lighthouse up on the coast- Kingsport, I think it’s called. It’s peaceful there.
31. Are you interested in anyone?
That’s a personal question.
32. Would you rather swim in the lake or the ocean?
Both are irradiated, both have mirelurks, both are cold as hell… What’s not to love? If i had to pick, it would be a lake. I heard a rumor about a ghoulified whale once, I’m definitely not interested in meeting that.
34. What’s your type?
Uh. Nice… people? I suppose? Again, personal question.
35. Any fetishes?
Excuse me?
36. Camping or outdoors?
Is this the last question, or are you going to ask more asinine bullshit? Outdoors. Are we done here?
