Breathe, out, and breathe again. The soil carpet underfoot is dark, brown, and soft. It sits in a richness, evident in the buoyant feeling of it replacing its form in your absence. The ceiling is made up of glass panes - dusty, stained with dripped dew and bird droppings, held in place with white plywood sheathing - painted, chipped, rusty nailed and pretty. The sunlight comes in clearly so, flitting through the branches overhead as their leaves wave - trailing its dotted, falling path along the rows and columns of succulents, tulips, flowers and herbs living comfortable in homes of soft moulded clay. They stand on second-hand stools - not one having a pair.
A gentle breath: the clarity of new air in the warm atmosphere helps the mind navigate the depth of the variety of growth. You raise your eyes from the dirt and they take you there. Gasp. The initial walk is brisk, the rows a blur. Lime greens hover. Pale and bright beige sits stubborn. Deep, vibrant yellows and sunny red oranges stretch a vivid presence from all distances. It's a packed gathering of now-familial plants, brushing their leaves against each other, shoulder height to a small woman, creating a forest. A slow and gentle pace now. You notice the slackening stalk of orange-petal tulips as the evening sun wanes, and you notice the breeze has quickened. You see the way the mint flutters and brushes its dense, velvet leaves against itself, growing in a constant effort, exuding its steady flow of excess energy in senses the nose notices first. You watch the curling sunflowers and the depth of their blackened brown seeds. The coupling of tiny brown treecreepers, unnoticed until they peep and hop, nesting in the cranny of the corner rafters and reflecting your attention once you see them. The kindness you feel in your smiling muscles when the monstera that guard the entrance slip their broad leaves against your chest, then shoulder.
Outside around the bases of the elder Redgum trees' thick trunks, where the nettles and broken and failed branches splay across the flattened mud, coarse dirt, patch grass and bulging roots, there grow mushrooms. They grow in pockets of the wildest varieties: vivid oranges faded by time and rain; proud reds, polka dotted and sporting specks of small white animal scratches; long stalks of beige hatted standers - none of equal height or stature - and pods of dull-green-veined and pure-white-capped bloomings that grow along the scattered bodies of fallen trees. One more inhale and the breeze comes clearly.

It's really that he felt so pointless. He's just there, not having much to do or say for himself, just supporting others' arcs. Literally why is he in Guns for Hire? Because the show needs its main character, but there's no reason for him and Grogu to accompany Bo. Even in the finale when he finally gets some sort of POV, aaallll the good moments are interrupted by Bo-Katan. It's frustrating that they scrapped Din and devoted the entire season to a character who already has over 10 years of character development behind her, when her Mando arc could have been told as a secondary character like it was in season 2. Din was a background character the entire time, and unlike Boba Fett who also did get sidelined in his own show, Din didn't get any character growth. Sure, he adopts Grogu, but he doesn't seem changed by the action, neither did he have a journey coming to term with this decision. For a character that is usually so profoundly sensible and emotionally investing, Din was as relatable as a plywood sheet this time around. Lots of great things that could have been done out of it, but in the end it was just really flat and dry.
Bro was lowkey just a living breathing sheath for the Darksaber to be honest lol you have a point here

Just before I flipped it over.
100% not recommended.
But it landed on the other pavers, with not much adjustment needed. I then temporarily attached the deck sheathing and am using that stage to build the other half.
So tomorrow we do it all again. Then the walls go up. That “should” go pretty quickly.
BTW, the hardware cloth, 1/4” plywood, and the insulation are all off script. But being a pottery studio and not just a garden shed, I think it’s all necessary.

HALFWAY BETWEEN ALICE SPRINGS & GHAN
The small white van screeches to a dead stop, slams into reverse and shoots back about twenty yards - then stops again.
“I’ll get it.” offers Alex, Rod’s fourteen year-old son. “NO, I will! You keep watch.” Rod counters.
Alex grabs the .50 cal rifle and climbs from the back seat. Rod leaps from the still-running van and speeds to the rear, throwing the back doors wide open. Alex stands guard, scanning the barren red surroundings.
Rod claims the newly found roadside item, quickly crams it into the van and jumps back inside. They race away as though it were a crime scene.
“Thank you daddy!” Milly says beaming. “No more stops.” Rod replies bluntly.
The tiny, blonde six year-old fumbles in her dirty, tattered pink purse in search of his reward. Found it!
“You get a gold star.” she says sweetly, placing it onto his left wrist. “Thank you.”
They barrel past a sign that reads GHAN 107 km.
“What’s going on?” asks Beth, Rod’s wife, rousing from some road-trip shut-eye. “Puttin’ miles behind us.”
There was an unexpected calm in the vehicle. An acceptance of sorts - not only of the situation at hand, but of the many potentially unfavorable outcomes.
Beth returns to her nap. Milly carries on singing a jingle from her favorite cartoon. Alex stares vacantly out the window. On the face of it, you’d never know they were running for their lives. Then it happened - one of those unfavorable outcomes.
The van starts knocking - the old spit & sputter - a few more knocks and it dies.
“Fuckin’ Christ!” Rod yells, pounding both fists on the dash.
Beth sits up in the passenger seat.
“What’s wrong, why are we stopped?” “Daddy said a swear.” Milly declares quietly.
“We had enough gas, goddamnit!” “You think it’s a leak?” she asks. “I don’t know. That or the fucking gauge is off!”
Milly reaches forward from the back seat.
“You lose your gold star.” she says with a grimace, removing the sticker from her father’s wrist.
“Where are we?” Beth questions. “Imanpa.” Alex replies.
“So how much further?” “Two-hundred fucking kilometers!” Rod shouts, punching the dashboard once more.
“We will never make that, not out here.” she says with a tremble. “We got no choice. We’ve got to try.” Rod states solemnly.
A quiet few moments pass.
“We’ll take as much as we can carry. Only the essentials. Let’s move."
On his command, they exit the vehicle gathering at the rear. He opens the back doors and is greeted by an almost forgotten gift.
“Looks like Milly just saved us.” he announces.
That roadside item she pleaded over - a rusty little red wagon. It had seen better days but was still intact and functional. This meant they could transport their few remaining supplies. Not to mention the five gallon water jug - which was still nearly full.
Rod and Alex load the wagon. Beth fills two backpacks with most of what’s left. Milly makes sure to pack her purse with all that will fit. They save the important things for last.
Rod tucks away two handguns and grabs the flamethrower and fuel tank. Alex follows suit, sticking a pistol in his pocket, then taking up the rifle. Beth hands Alex one of the packs, slings the other over her shoulder and straps a sheathed machete to her back, keeping one in hand.
It was time to march.
"Killing Fields" - First in the four-part series 'Chimera'.

Damn, I wish I had taken it before picture because I'm kind of proud of this. They were tilted at such an angle that it looked like things were about to slide off beforehand. Plywood floor of the murder shed appears to be buckling and sagging after oh I don't know, 30 to 45 years. The guy who built it, and did a damn fine job too, his name was Ernie. Ernie sucked at electrical wiring though. I'm either cursing or blessing Ernie depending on what he's done that I'm dealing with. Oh yeah, the altar of brown was sheathed in wood that Ernie had squirreled away in the deepest corners of the murder shed.
Anyways, this wasn't Ernie's fault, a bag of fertilizer or several of them, which had absorbed moisture in the air over said 10-20 years had soaked into a spot on the floor. I don't think the termites got in the plywood as bad, but this probably has something to do with this as well.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the murder shed was very much half eaten by termites. Prior to me moving into it. We had Cooks take care of them about 6 years ago. I've replaced various pieces of partially or totally eaten wood in the shelving and some of the studs in the wall. Cuz I couldn't directly replace a lot of the wood, and I really did not want to do that either. I had to get weird and creative with the placement. Found 2x4's, 3 inch screws (fuck nails) and liquid nails can add a lot of strength. There is "great stuff" everywhere because I basically was playing with what was left of the can.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The shed and shelves no longer feel like they are about to crumble at any moment. I did not know that termites can eat gypsum/fiber board, but they can, and after shop-vacking up a wall stud, Yes you heard me correctly, I just kind of crunched it up with the Shop-Vac and it sucked up most of it. Left a hole in the wall, which I had to patch very hastily because it was going to rain the next evening. Either I got the wrong product, or this batch was bad cuz the first attempt did not go well, the second attempt went better but clearly I did something wrong, maybe I should read something from the internet before just throwing s*** at it and hoping it stays put. Like I said I was in a hurry it was about to rain. The paint mismatches because I don't care. It's funny.
Tumblr media
And here's a picture of one of the termite eating boards that experimentally tried to repair with an Elmer's glue and formica filler.

A Detailed Guide to Waterproof Plywood Alternatives
Tumblr media
It is essential to select the appropriate materials for projects involving construction or home improvement. Waterproof plywood has long been a popular choice for moist areas like bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor areas. However, there are now a number of waterproof plywood alternatives on the market that offer comparable, if not better, performance in terms of durability, cost-effectiveness, and resistance to water. In this blog, we'll investigate the absolute most ideal waterproof compressed wood options that anyone could hope to find today.
1. Water-Resistant Coating on Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)
Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) is a cost-effective alternative to plywood. While standard MDF isn't water-safe, producers presently offer adaptations with unique water-safe coatings, making it reasonable for damp conditions. MDF with a coating that is resistant to water has a smooth surface, making it suitable for painted finishes, and it is less likely to warp than conventional plywood.
2. Marine Grade Plywood
Marine Grade Plywood is frequently regarded as the best option for water resistance. Even though it is technically a kind of plywood, it was designed specifically for places where moisture is always a problem. Produced using top notch wood facade and reinforced with waterproof cement, marine-grade compressed wood is unimaginably sturdy and impervious to delamination. This pursues it a superb decision for outside furnishings, boat building, and waterfront development projects.
3. Cement Board
Cement board is a strong, long-lasting, and watertight alternative to plywood that is frequently utilized as a backer for tiles in wet areas such as kitchens and showers. It is resistant to mold and mildew because it is made of cement and fiberglass mesh. Although it is heavier and more difficult to cut than plywood, its water resistance and durability make it a great choice for areas with high moisture levels.
4. PVC Foam Board
Another excellent waterproof plywood alternative is PVC foam board. PVC foam board is lightweight, waterproof, and resistant to termites and rot. It is made from a combination of plastic and other materials. It's not difficult to work with, pursuing it a famous decision for cabinetry, open air signage, and different undertakings where water openness is a worry. PVC foam board also comes in a wide range of colors and finishes, giving designers more creative freedom.
5. Fiber Concrete Board
Fiber concrete board is a composite material produced using concrete supported with cellulose filaments. It's profoundly impervious to water, fire, and bugs, making it a solid choice for both inside and outside applications. In wet areas, fiber cement boards are frequently used for siding, soffits, and as a base for tiles. While it could be more costly than customary pressed wood, its life span and protection from natural variables make it a practical interest over the long haul.
6. Oriented Strand Board (OSB)
Another cost-effective alternative to plywood is Oriented Strand Board (OSB) with a water-resistant treatment. Adhesives hold wood strands together to form OSB. While water-resistant versions of OSB are available, they perform better in moist environments than standard versions. OSB with water-safe treatment is ordinarily utilized for subflooring, wall sheathing, and material, giving a strong and solid choice for development projects.
End
Picking the right material for your venture is fundamental, particularly in regions where dampness is a worry. These waterproof plywood alternatives offer excellent durability, water resistance, and frequently superior value for money, despite the fact that waterproof plywood has long been the preferred choice. You can find a solution that meets your requirements and ensures the project's longevity by selecting MDF with a water-resistant coating, marine-grade plywood, cement board, PVC foam board, fiber cement board, or OSB with a water-resistant treatment.
