It’s a matter of scale. AO3 has two major advantages over library catalogs, inching the Library of Congress:
There is only one (1) set of canonical tags. Keywords and phrases supplied by the writers are wrangled into the canonical list of tags or kept as Freeform tags. Non-English canonical tags will be translated into English.
It has a user-friendly interface that supports its tag wrangling.
Most library catalogs do tag wrangling for subjects, names, locations, and more. It’s called authority control. People get together and propose new headings and tweak existing ones. It can be political and contentious.
The Library of Congress (LC) maintains several tag sets (i.e. authorities) that are shared freely with the world and used by many many many libraries. Even non-US libraries.
These LC authorities were first created in the 1800s to facilitate the research needs of Congresspeople (hence a big focus on law) and for discovering items in the US copyright repository. LC authorities will never meet all of the needs of every library. It does not even meet the needs of the other big federal libraries, such as National Library of Medicine, who maintain their own specialized sets of terms.
There are thousands of authorities out there, usually for specific subject areas and audiences. Catalogers regularly add terms from multiple authorities, such as LCSH, Sears, FAST, MeSH, Homosaurus, and AAT, to the same catalog record. We even add local terms, like freeform tags.
And then there are all of the other authorities maintained by different countries and in different languages. WikiData is working on linking terms across many of these authorities. For example, look at the Identifiers section on the entry for Mary Cassatt.
Library catalog data is presented in three main public interfaces: the local online catalog; a discovery layer that searches the catalog, research databases and other external sources; and in union catalogs that search multiple library catalogs in 1 place, such as WorldCat. Each of these may handle and display authorities differently. Some of them will choose to work like AO3 and display the original tags in a record but use the canonical one for searching. Other libraries may decide to only display and search on the canonical tags. It depends on the capabilities of the library catalog software as well as the different interfaces.
I’m glossing over a lot of details that also affect library date, like catalog record structure, call numbers and shelf locations, inherent biases in classification systems, library vendor mergers, and the variety of local cataloging practices.
TL;DR: AO3 has 1 specialized set of tags in 1 language searchable in 1 interface. Libraries, on the other hand, use multiple sets of tags in many languages. There may have different search interfaces, each of which could handle tags and search results differently.
at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"
which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress

Putting on a Farm Toy Show!
Have you been to a farm toy show? If not, it is unlike any other event. There is room trading, where toys are set up in hotel rooms that turn into display areas, rooms are filled with vendors, and you will find a variety of new, old, and even at times scratch built (which means built by hand) toys. Others are custom made by tweaking toys that come off the shelf, converting them into something new…

A/N: Instead of trying to come up with names for these fics I’m simply using roman numerals to number them. Also, laar senaar = song bird. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
The village is bustling with activity. People are packed tightly into the alleyways, where merchants and makers are selling everything from spatchka to dolls in their little booths. Din keeps a hand on your lower back the whole time, as he always does when walking through crowded areas. The child coos from the bag hanging off his shoulder, his big eyes roaming all the color and activity surrounding his vision.
“Keep your eyes open for anything we can take as rations,” Din tells you. “Then we can head back to the ship.”
“I know the protocol, Din,” you say, smirking at him.
His visor glances down at you, and he shakes his head. A few moments later, a stand with fresh produce comes into view.
“Let’s stop there,” he says, quickening his pace. You practically have to jog to keep up with his long strides.
While Din looks through the food and points to the vendor what he wants, you let your eyes wander amongst your surroundings. The village is colorful and lively, a stark contrast to the environment of the Crest. Not that you didn’t enjoy being the Mandalorian’s crewmate, but you could tell he was too overwhelmed with his duties to stop and take a moment of peace.
As you observe the life occuring around you, a soft melody begins playing. You turn to the sound and see an older man strumming a guitar. Your heart immediately lifts at the sight of it, the memories of your home planet and the music lessons you took as a child flooding back to you. The song he plays is slow and gentle, and you find yourself softly swaying to its sound.
“What is it?” Din suddenly appears at your side, grabbing your arm.
You’re confused at the concern in his voice, and realize he must’ve seen you staring and thought something was wrong. “Nothing,” you tell him. “I’m just enjoying the music this man is playing. I used to have my own guitar similar to that one.”
He turns to the sound. “I never knew you could play music,” he says, his voice soft.
“I was taught when I was a child. It’s beautiful isn’t it?” you ask, looking up at him.
He looks down at you, and you wait for him to agree. “I found a stand down that way that has some soup. Why don’t you go get some for you and Grogu?” he asks, but says it more as a command. Disappointment tweaks in your chest for a moment, wishing he would take a moment to enjoy something.
You nod, picking up Grogu and holding him close to you. “How does that sound, little guy? You hungry?”
He looks up at you and giggles in agreement. You grin at him and glance to Din one more time before sauntering away to grab some food.
As soon as you and Grogu finish your portions, you meet back up with Din and head back to the ship.
“What’s that thing?” you ask, motioning to the large bag hanging off of Din’s shoulder.
“I just picked up another part for the ship while you were eating,” he states as he walks up the ramp into the Crest.
“You won’t believe how much Grogu ate. I swear he doesn’t have a stomach, just a bottomless pit of nothingness,” you joke, looking down at the kid now fast asleep in the bag against your hip.
“Then I’m glad we stopped for rations when we did,” he deadpans. Humor is pretty rare for Din.
All three of you quickly get settled in and Din begins the ascent process. You hear his footsteps descending the ladder a few minutes later. You’re in the process of putting away the rations when he walks up to you.
“What is it?” you ask when he stops next to you.
His visor turns to the floor.“I, uh, I got you something while you were away with Grogu,” he states. He steps away and picks up the large leather bag that he claimed was something for the ship. You step away from the shelf and watch as he pulls out a sleek, black guitar.
You nearly gasp, and your heart lurches with excitement. You rush over and admire the instrument. “Where did you get this?” you ask, running your fingers along the strings.
“That man you saw sold these. I asked him for the best one he had and he sold me this one,” he says, his voice low and uncertain.
He holds it out to you and you carefully take it from him, your fingers brushing against his gloved ones as you take the weight of the instrument.
“It’s beautiful,” you say, sitting down and positioning the guitar against your leg. You look up at Din. “Thank you.”
“It’s nothing,” he states. “I figured Grogu would enjoy hearing some music.”
You glance down to see Grogu waddling over to you, reaching up at the shiny object placed in your possession. He appears totally enamored with it. “Well let’s find out,” you say.
Din watches you closely as you begin playing a song. Your fingers smoothly transition along the strings, and a slow melody begins emitting from the guitar. He admires the grace in your movements, and wonders what it would feel like to have your fingers moving along his skin. The sound of the music you play brings him back to his own memories as a young one. When he was with his parents and his mother would sing to him. He’s never really thought about music since then, but the sounds you play now causes his heart to stir.
He realizes then, he’s found his very own laar senaar.

E-Commerce Website Design - Finding the Right Vendor
Finding the right ecommerce vendor to fit your business' needs has been a challenge. A brand should be unique in how they present their expertise. This goal is enhanced by establishing an effective ecommerce. They can be used as support tools for the brand being promoted.
Tumblr media
*Research your requirements and find the vendor who can meet them. It is important, and really pertinent, to check out the clienteles of vendors to ensure that they can deliver on what they promise. You should also examine their delivery processes and methods. What is their average tenure in the business? How successful are they? Are they able to perform the technical tasks? How about the infrastructure and personnel? What is the quality of their customer service? How much does it cost to implement and maintain the system? These and other relevant questions will be answered once you have established your base.
*You should look for a dynamic and reliable vendor. Find someone who is familiar with the business and e-commerce Social Media Marketing Company in Karurbusiness. This is more like saying that you need a partner vendor who can help grow your business and establish your brand. This is more than just setting up and launching the system. A company should select a vendor who understands their goals and can help them achieve them.
*Choose the best e-commerce solution for you. There are many types of e-commerce solutions available, from ready-made platforms to custom-built ones. The off-the-shelf solution can capture about 70% of a business's needs, while customizations can fulfill the remaining 30%. You can choose to go with either one or both depending on your business' needs. The e-commerce solution based on the open-sourced Magento platform can be a good option for emerging and small businesses. E-commerce stores can be quickly set up and interconnected with multiple marketplaces and storefronts. This can be a great solution for a global brand.
*Your users will appreciate what you offer. E-commerce solutions are advancing in areas such as balance in personalization, social commerce and patronage through the shopping experience. Brands must strike a delicate balance between commerce and content to be successful. Consumers will always seek out what they want, and if you don’t provide it, they will look elsewhere.
*You should be prepared to spend a lot. Good investment is the key to any solution. You should be prepared to invest a lot of money. Companies should budget at least $50,000 to launch an e-commerce venture. You will need to customize the product with all the tweaking required. The solution offered by an e-commerce business is often cheaper than their services. You should choose what's best for you.
These have an impact on the creative and speculative elements of the brand that you wish to promote, in conjunction with commercial transactions. Before you make a big decision, it is important to consider the following basic checklists.

The 8 Step Guide to Build a Solid Workplace Learning Strategy for New Leaders
Tumblr media
What demands a change to the traditional methods of designing a workplace learning strategy? Well, in the last ten years have witnessed a rapid evolution within the global workforce. Some of the factors responsible for this change are an increasingly competitive business landscape, rising complexity, and the digital revolution. Hence, we have seen a huge shift in the mix of diverse employees.
On the other hand, reskilling and upskilling of the workforce has assumed a seat of prime importance. Why? Consistent uncertainty, a multigenerational workforce, and shorter shelf life for knowledge. Additionally, with a transition to a digital, knowledge-based economy, we have witnessed a vibrant workforce. And as per McKinsey, “Research suggests that a very significant percentage of market capitalization in public companies is based on intangible assets—skilled employees, exceptional leaders, and knowledge.”
Learning and Development: The Paradigm Shift and the Role of the New L&D Leaders workplace learning strategy
The aforementioned trends have solidified the significance of the learning and development (L&D) function. L&D leaders must be aware of the changes in the online training platforms to meet the evolving needs of organisations. And this entails the design of a solid workplace learning strategy. The management must take up a broader role in their companies so as to extract the maximum value from training programs and curriculum development. They need to formulate an ambitious vision for the function. And an essential component of this effort is a comprehensive, coordinated strategy that engages the organisation and encourages collaboration.
How to Create a Solid Workplace Learning Strategy?
Designing a comprehensive workplace learning strategy is a systematic process. Although we have outlined an eight-step guide to come up with one in the following paras, you can use your own discretion in following the chronology. In fact, some of the steps can be carried out in parallel, and solutions can be built over time once the overarching strategy is established. But the best bet is to go for a structured approach and then move forward with developing or reviewing an L&D strategy. The steps might appear elementary, but many organisations’ L&D frameworks do not reflect the rigor associated with them.
The Eight Step Guide to Create the Perfect Workplace Learning Strategy
Create a clear vision of your L&D function’s end goals and metrics. Ensure that these objectives are in tandem with the organisation’s strategy and priorities. While developing your metrics, make it a point to consult with all key stakeholders
Make an inventory of all existing L&D activity, inclusive of the name, type, objective, vendor, success measurement, and occurrences
In order to fulfil point number one, design the right curriculum. While designing training modules, make sure that the content is based on both organisational and role needs, innovative & applied solutions, and ROI
If there is a gap between points one and three, you need to revise your curriculum
Have clear definitions of your processes to deliver workplace learning strategy Roles, HR & business interfaces, Learning Management System, budget, delivery, scheduling, tracking
Ensure that you have set your priorities. Following this, set a design, select vendors, and recruit instructors
Once the curriculum is established, devise targeted solutions
Finally, measure your learners’ progress and include the required tweaks in your training modules
Conclusion
As an organisation, you might use several terms to define your L&D function — curriculum, framework, or programs. Whatever be the case, L&D solutions need to fit within a strategy. In fact, each of your solutions must have a relevant purpose, target group, and value. L&D solutions should not be a part of your calendar so as to merely count the number of training days. It should be entwined with your company’s performance goals. And this is how an L&D solution will enable more successful delivery and performance.

This Egyptian Grain Bowl Is the Pantry Wonder-Dish We Need Right Now
Tumblr media
Anny Gaul
Koshari is filling, flavorful, easy to make, and basically perfect
Last September, the Egyptian fast-casual chain Zooba opened a branch in Lower Manhattan. Among Egyptian classics like taameya and hawawshi, one of the most popular dishes on the menu from the start has been koshari — a centuries-old grain bowl that’s suddenly found itself an unlikely global “it” food. Manhattan’s Zooba is just the latest in a series of hot spots in cities like Cairo, Berlin, London, and New York that are serving the ancient staple to an entirely new and very eager customer base.
The appeal of koshari is easy to understand. It’s both filling and delicious — a mess of complex carbs and protein muddled with a range of acidic notes. A base of rice, lentils, chickpeas, and macaroni is shot through with sauces that meld tomato, hot pepper, vinegar, and garlic, and the whole thing is topped with crispy fried onions. But while it’s a fast-casual trend around the world, in Egypt, koshari is better known as a historic national dish, one that gracefully straddles the divide between street food and home cooking.
It’s also the perfect food for pantry cooking in an age of stay-at-home orders and two-hour supermarket queues. With a long history as a hardy, adaptable, filling meal of choice among traders and travelers, it’s designed to provide maximum nutrition and flavor from cheap, accessible ingredients and local trimmings. If you have an assortment of starches, pulses, and alliums on hand, plus some vinegar and tomato sauce or tomato paste, then koshari’s delights are within your reach.
“Egyptians have a long history of hodgepodge cooking, stuffing carbs with even more carbs — and we aren’t the only ones.” — Egyptian novelist Nael El Toukhy
Koshari’s history has always been something of a mystery. One thing most Egyptians agree on is the dish’s connection to khichidi (sometimes spelled kitchari), an Indian dish that is also built on the winning combination of grains and pulses — a catchall term for the edible seeds of legumes like beans and lentils. But how did it get to Egypt?
Most popular accounts cite Britain’s occupation of Egypt, which began in 1882 and was accomplished with the help of Indian troops. While it’s perfectly plausible, even likely, that Indian soldiers brought khichidi with them to Egypt, they probably weren’t the first or the only such link in koshari’s history: Centuries of earlier, sometimes indirect, connections between Egypt and India likely also form part of the dish’s evolution. As the powerhouse rice-and-lentils combo traveled along the pilgrimage and trade routes that have connected South Asia to Arabia to Egypt via the Red Sea for centuries, it absorbed new ingredients and flavors along the way.
Today, traces of rice-and-lentil dishes dot the ports and coastal regions that long tied Egypt and India together. The crews of dhows — short-range sailing vessels of the Red Sea and Indian Ocean — once ate a dish made with rice, lentils, ghee, and hot peppers, according to one traveler’s account from the 1930s. Food scholar Sami Zubaida recalls a weekly meal of rice, lentils, tomato paste, and garlic during his childhood in Baghdad, adding that the dish was also well-known in Iraq’s port city of Basra. It was Zubaida who pointed me in the direction of several 19th-century British accounts that placed koshari — or something very like it — along the east coast of the Arabian peninsula as well as in Suez, an Egyptian port at the northernmost end of the Red Sea. An East India Company official stationed there in the 1840s described the locals eating a mixture of lentils and rice cooked with ghee and flavored with “pickled lime or stewed onions.”
Tumblr media
Zooba [Official]
Two versions of the Koshari served at New York’s Zooba pre COVID-19, now available for takeout and delivery
In 1941, Egypt’s most famous cookbook, known as Kitab Abla Nazira, included two koshari recipes, one with yellow lentils and one with brown lentils. But before its canonization in a cookbook written for middle-class housewives, koshari was likely best known as a local street food. British public health authorities granted a license to a street vendor peddling “rice and macaroni” in 1936. It’s a vague archival detail, but I like to think it may have referred to Cairo’s first recorded koshari cart.
The addition of pasta and tomato sauce to koshari was a testament to the considerable influence of the Italian communities in Cairo and Alexandria at the time, which infused everything from the local diet to its dialect. (Modern Egyptian Arabic is peppered with Italian loanwords for everything from a Primus stove — “wabur,” from “vapore” — to the check at a restaurant, “fattura.”) Pasta and tomato sauce offered cheap ways to stretch koshari’s portions even further.
Contemporary koshari is commonly served with as many as three different dressings: a tomato sauce, a local hot sauce called shatta, and a garlicky, vinegar-based dressing called da’ah (pronounced with a glottal stop in the middle, like “uh-oh”).
Even today, koshari is never just one thing. Within Egypt, variations abound: Yellow lentils are associated with Alexandrian koshari, while Cairene koshari typically features brown lentils. Many home cooks told me how they’d tweak their mother’s or grandmother’s recipes, swapping in whichever pulses or pasta shapes they prefer or adding more spice. Sometimes elements of the dressings are combined, like hot pepper added to the tomato sauce, for example. There are variants topped with an egg or a smattering of chicken livers. Cairo Kitchen, another fast-casual Egyptian restaurant specializing in homestyle meals, introduced brown rice and gluten-free variations of koshari. And further afield, Koshary Lux in Berlin serves up koshari with jasmine rice, beluga lentils, and caramelized rather than fried onions.
For now, the signature neon lights of Zooba’s Nolita dining room are switched off, just like the lights on the Nile party boats in Egypt they’re meant to resemble. Until they light up again (it recently opened for takeout and delivery!), the world’s original flexitarian grain bowl is easy enough to make yourself.
Tumblr media
Anny Gaul
Koshari is less about one ingredient than the right mix of textures and tastes.
Build-Your-Own
The robust grain-and-pulse genre provides a handy template for building a grain bowl from whatever’s on hand. For some good jumping-off points, try Meera Sodha’s twist on kitchari; Maureen Abood’s take on koshari’s Levantine country cousin, mujadara; or novelist Ahdaf Soueif’s koshari recipe. But koshari doesn’t so much require a hard-and-fast recipe as it does a list of stuff to put in a bowl, and a mixture of contrasting textures and tastes is more important than any one ingredient. Here, then, is a basic guide to building your own koshari-inspired pantry grain bowl.
Step 1: Form a base
The foundation of the dish should include at least one grain (rice, pasta, or in a pinch, bulgar, freekeh, or even couscous) and one pulse (lentils, chickpeas). Today’s koshari typically includes at least two of each (chickpeas, lentils, rice, and pasta), but you can always keep it simple, like many earlier versions of the dish, with just rice and lentils.
Aim for short pastas, such as elbow macaroni; for longer pastas like vermicelli and spaghetti, break into pieces before cooking. Most koshari recipes call for a grain-to-pulse ratio of at least 2 to 1. Increase the ratio to stretch the recipe into more servings; decrease it for a lighter meal.
The culinary teams at Zooba and Cairo Kitchen suggested that preparing multiple ingredients in the same pot is the secret to rich, homestyle flavors (also fewer dishes!), so feel free to cook your lentils and rice together.
Step 2: Sauce it
Sauces and dressings can make or break a grain bowl. If you have a jarred marinara-style tomato sauce — ideally something with tomatoes, onion, and garlic — on hand, warm it up and stir it right into your koshari or mix in a bit of your favorite hot sauce first. If you only have tomato paste, improvise a substitute by stirring in some hot sauce and olive oil.
Then you need something with a little more garlic and acid. Whip up a quick dressing with some crushed fresh garlic and cumin steeped in white vinegar (traditional) or lime juice (nouveau). You can also start with a basic citrus vinaigrette and experiment with layering other dressings on top, like a drizzle of pomegranate molasses or a balsamic glaze. A squeeze of fresh citrus never hurts.
Classic koshari is topped with crispy fried onions, which you can replicate with whatever alliums you have on hand, some oil, and a microwave, one of my favorite hacks. Reserve the oil and toss it with the pulses and grains, and add a dollop of butter or ghee for even more richness. For a crunch that doesn’t involve frying things in hot oil but still feels Egyptian, try dukkah, an Egyptian seed and spice mix.
Step 3: Customize
From there, you can pepper in some caramelized onions or add your favorite pickles, fresh herbs, greens, or a soft-boiled egg. Follow the lead of dhow sailors with some hot chiles or pickled citrus.
Step 4: Eat for days
Koshari’s reliance on so many shelf-stable ingredients makes it great for cooking from the pantry, but it can also make the process of preparing it daunting. Pace yourself and split the preparation over a couple of days, remembering that most grain bowl ingredients can be building blocks for multiple meals. If you’re planning a pasta dinner with a green salad on the side, make some extra tomato sauce and a garlicky vinaigrette to dress your koshari the next day. And as you well know, crispy onions make anything better.
So the next time you look to your own pantry for dinner inspiration, borrow a page from koshari’s long, global tradition of piling together sturdy nonperishables with the zingiest trimmings on hand — for a combination that has been satiating sailors, traders, street vendors, and home cooks for centuries.

Find the Best POS System For Retail - France
POS systems can usually vary in price depending on the type of system. It is advisable to make comparisons between different providers available in the market as well as types of POS systems. However, some pricing guidelines of a complete system are established on the average below:
System Type and Specific Estimated Cost
Programmed, installed, customized: - $ 2,300 - $ 4,000 per terminal
Off-the-shelf system: - $ 1,000 - $ 3,000 per terminal
Note: POS system terminal prices drop significantly due to more terminals installed.
Are these POS systems worth it?
With many systems, the return on investment (ROI) is only realized over time. However, when purchasing POS systems, comparing the various systems available in the market is important for research and price. Choosing one that is right for your business needs will deliver a quick ROI. Below are typical POS system ROIs.
Company size (annual revenue) and when ROI is typically realized
For $ 1,000,000 +, company ROI is typically realized in 6 months - 1.5 years
For $ 700,000 - $ 900,000, ROI is typically realized in 1 - 2 years
For $ 400,000 - $ 600,000, ROI is typically realized over 2 - 3 years
What do these systems provide?
POS systems are designed to increase productivity and gain more control and intelligence over your business, saving money. In general they will eventually lead to lower expenses and increased sales. Some ways to help you save money include improving efficiency and business control:
Eliminate Product Loss (Reduction): A POS system can significantly reduce inventory shrinkage from your store or restaurant due to theft, wastage and employee misuse. Because the employees are aware that the inventory is tracked carefully, the inventory loss will be reduced.
Accuracy and connectivity of all locations: Ensuring that every item in your store or menu is sold at the right price is one of the features of the POS system. Prices can also be changed in seconds within a computer and reflected on products (and SKUs), so your employees will never have to guess the price. These machines allow connectivity with other terminals located in different locations, so a simple tweak can implement changes in all locations if desired.
Reporting and High Margin: The POS system allows for detailed sales reporting indicating high sales or popular products. This allows you to focus on more profitable items and ensure that items with high turnover are always stocked or promoted under-performing in a restaurant setting to generate high-margin goods.
Know where you stand without the paper trail: Detailed sales reporting of the POS system instantly tells you the amount of product sold at a particular time, the inventory level by product, the amount of cash you have in your drawer and how much profit it has. All this information is stored within a computerized POS system, so you are not ready to maintain paperwork for inventory tracking, sales manager etc.
Know who your customers are: In today's competitive landscape, knowing your customers and enabling them to communicate regularly is the key factor in retaining them. A POS system captures the names and contact information of your regular customers as part of a standard transaction. This allows you to advertise and promote those customers.
Choosing a POS System Provider
Due to the nature of POS systems, choosing the right vendor is a major decision. As there are many things to consider in a POS system, the right vendor will guide you through various options depending on your business needs and budget.
The right vendor will provide, explain and suggest alternatives for:
POS System Hardware - Printer, Cash Drawer, Customer Display, Magnetic Stripe Reader, Check Reader etc.
POS System Software - Credit Card Processing, Discounts, Refunds, Accounting Reports, Integration with Accounting Software, Inventory Tracking, Dining Move from Bar to Table, Waiting List Management etc.
Input devices - keyboards vs. touch screens, scanners, handheld terminals, etc.
POS system providers will also differ in providing ongoing support and services. Some guarantee parts and labor for 1 year, others offer free phone support 24x7, some charge per event and some offer annual service contracts where prices range from $ 200- $ 1,000 + annually.
Negotiating the total price and service support in advance is a best practice and getting all the equipment, support and equipment from the same vendor will save you a bundle.
Comparing a price is important, experience, quality of work and context are equally important, as the POS system provider is a partner in delivering something that will affect your financial bottom line.
Finding a good point of sale system provider:
With so many different options, the obvious question is finding a good provider

Are Dynamips a Substitute for Traditional Lab Training Equipment?
Tumblr media
Since the beginning of vendor network certification, the number one problem that has promised certification candidates is gaining access to hardware routing and transfer to familiarize themselves with how to design and configure complex network scenarios. Traditionally candidates are limited to searching on eBay and other internet auction sites to get great deals on used equipment to buy a home laboratory or rent lab rack time from training vendors. Today's candidates now have a new option to practice their Cisco lab scenario, a router simulator program called Dynamips.
Dynamips is a Linux and Windows based program used to simulate routing of Cisco 1700, 2600, 2691, 3600, 7200 and 3700 series routing platforms and currently supports Ethernet, Serial, ATM and POS interfaces for 7200 and 3700 series routers and Ethernet modules , Serial and Etherswitch for 3600 series routers.
Unlike other traditional router emulators, Dynamips allows users to run real Cisco IOS images. This allows users to use all available IOS commands for the Cisco IOS revision as well as design and build complex network scenarios to practice and develop their knowledge of network topology on their desktop PCs. Best of all Dynamips is open-source and free to download!
Although Dynamips has gained a lot of momentum and popularity with Cisco candidates as well as vendor training such as Internetwork Expert and idexx indonesia ieMentors and allows users to Build and test complex lab scenarios using different technologies such as Frame Relay, ATM, MPLS, etc. sophisticated enough to completely replace real hardware.
Dynamips cannot replicate any of the current high-end switching features and probably never will. This means that you must have access to the actual Cisco switches to practice these skills. There are also no provisions for topologies such as Token-ring and ISDN.
In addition, although Dynamips works well if you tweak enough and provide sufficient resources, (the size of the lab you can make is limited only by the amount of CPU and RAM you provide) some candidates may not want to spend money to improve their systems or take the time to change the variables in the software.
It is my opinion that Dynamips will increase in popularity as the application advances and with the introduction of a PC with higher and newer performance. While it will make a dent in the need for household appliances and shelf rental business it will not eliminate them completely.
In conclusion, candidates are no longer bound to a specific time window for rack rental or the need to be connected to a home laboratory. You can carry your lab with your laptop. This will allow you to practice your lab scenarios anywhere and anytime maximizing your study efforts.

Why should businesses invest in custom software development?
The need to change carefully has made a situation where ventures are continually putting resources into new advanced answers for either make life simpler for tasks or assist them with investigating new income streams in the computerized space. In any case, there is a lot of misguided judgments that win in the market with respect to advanced arrangements. When a business declares that it is prepared to put resources into advanced, they prepare assaulted with to-convey and off the rack computerized instruments that are given by a few parts in the tech business.
But is investing in readily available solutions the best way to gain a foothold in digital adoption? Not always is what industry experts say. It is important for enterprises to invest in custom software development to empower their business growth with a more personalized digital arsenal. Several executives may argue that custom software development is a costly affair, but buying commercial off the shelf software could do more harm than good in the long run if it is not tailored to your objectives.
Here are 5 reasons why investing in custom software development is important for your enterprise.
1. Complexities in Systems Integration
Various regions of your business activities may see devices from various merchants as valuable. Notwithstanding, these apparatuses may each have their own innovation framework necessities, compositional contrasts, diverse development procedures, and fluctuating degrees of user support. As an association, your innovation biological system needs to fill in as a smoothed-out single unit, fit for conveying an incentive over your business.
For integrating systems from multiple vendors, a considerable effort is needed and this could outweigh the advantages offered by individual systems. Such a scenario calls for creating a suite of operational enterprise applications, custom made to fit the objectives of your business. Every custom software, thus built would follow common standards in development and execution, thereby creating a flexible and interoperable enterprise technology stack.
2. Scalability restrictions
Ready to deploy enterprise solutions are often advertised to be scalable for large workloads. But when unique requirements of your organization require flexibility beyond the scope defined by the software development company, then you are left with expensive software that cannot scale up with your business demand. This is another area where tailored and custom software development can be the game changer in your technology landscape.
Segments of such software can be constructed remembering the goals explicit to your business zones and not only a standard industry necessity. Henceforth, when adaptability prerequisites emerge, custom-fabricated endeavor software will have the option to oblige your one of a kind business and procedure work processes in like manner without making new difficulties for the groups taking care of your venture applications. This is indispensable for SMB's as their development aspirations would require a versatile innovation backend to help a basic business process.
3. Future proof innovations
Innovation is at the heart of every competitive business environment today. The more you innovate, the greater will be your chances of satisfying diverse consumer interests. When enterprises buy expensive and ready to deploy software from reputed vendors, they often limit their own dimensions of innovation. Such businesses are often forced to either wait till the software vendor comes up with the desired innovation or they may have to again purchase a new software if their existing application vendor is not in a position to add the new feature anytime soon.
Having your own custom software built will enable you to experiment and bring onboard innovative concepts faster and without depending on other technology vendors to do it for you. This can help in greater market competence as your brand would be recognized as a forerunner rather than a late adopter for innovations that consumers desire.
4. Existing technology support
Many times, businesses invest in new digital solutions by blindly following trends in the market. It could be possible that the technology that they already have may just need a few tweaks and upgrades to provide the exact same or even better features that a totally new commercial off the shelf software can provide. Bringing a new digital solution from a vendor into your existing technology ecosystem can cause challenges not just in systems integration as mentioned above, but may also create instances where large effort is needed to maintain existing software that serves other core business processes.
When businesses go for custom software development, they have the liberty to build new capability on top of existing enterprise applications and hence saving considerable effort in development as well as reducing cost escalations. Having a team to customize existing software is a better alternative than engaging one to implement a third-party solution from scratch and then follow it up with expensive customizations to further suit your business requirements and objectives.
5. Compliance with standards and processes
Indeed, even the best of computerized arrangements from world-class merchants may have consistent issues with the standard principles and procedures received inside a business. The creators of such software may have included suggestions from industry-perceived principles, however all the time a business may need to thoroughly consider the crate while running their day by day activities. This prompts their center procedures and principles to be exposed to deviations from what the business follows.
When third-party digital solutions are directly brought into such deviation prone business scenarios, there will be issues with compliance policies and standards. This is yet another scope for custom software development to take center stage and empower businesses with the flexibility to meet their unique compliance requirements. This is also true when government and other geopolitical influences require custom standard or compliance implementation rules to be followed by enterprise applications. Areas such as data privacy and consent management would be under multiple legal and judicial networks.  A region and a third-party digital solution may not be flexible to handle such variances.
Any technology implementation done today should be closely linked to business objectives, and enterprises need to have a clear idea of the business use cases that particular technology could solve. With custom software development, it is possible to have a clear picture of the quantifiable value every investment in enterprise application development is made.
This will prove to deliver more ROI than a fully-fledged third-party digital solution implementation where your business may often be at the mercy of the vendor’s technology prowess. If technology is not your core forte, then you need to have the right advisory and consulting partner to help drive the most value out of your custom software development initiatives.
With years of empowering some of the world’s best businesses with custom software development, Softghor can be the right partner to help you build the technology backbone of your business. Get in touch with us to know more.

Intel Forced to Suspend Sales to Inspur, China’s Largest AI and Server Vendor
Intel has been ordered by the US government to cease product shipments to the largest server company you’ve probably never heard of. Inspur isn’t quite as large as Dell or HPE, but it’s the third-largest server manufacturer in the world, with 11.7 percent of the global market in Q3 2019. The company is the largest server provider in mainland China.
Intel has halted shipments to Inspur but has stated it expects shipments to resume in about two weeks, according to GlobalTimes.cn. “Intel has temporarily paused shipments to this one customer in order to make a few changes to our supply chain as required by US law,” the company said in a statement.
Image released by Inspur, data via IDC
According to a list released by the Pentagon last week, Inspur is one of 20 companies claimed to be owned or controlled by the Chinese military. The military was required to release a list of Chinese companies affiliated with the People’s Liberation Army in 1999, but never actually published a list until 2020.
“As the People’s Republic of China attempts to blur the lines between civil and military sectors, ‘knowing your supplier’ is critical,” Pentagon spokesperson Jonathan Hoffman told Bloomberg. “We envision this list will be a useful tool for the U.S. government, companies, investors, academic institutions, and like-minded partners to conduct due diligence with regard to partnerships with these entities, particularly as the list grows.”
According to Bloomberg’s story last week, the list was expected to be mostly symbolic, with several quoted commenters questioning whether the government would require US companies to cease selling equipment to the affected corporations. Obviously, there’s intended to be some teeth to the enforcement, which raises the question of how Intel will be able to resume shipments so quickly. AMD, if you recall, was notified that its THATIC venture had run afoul of national security and does not appear to have reactivated the business partnership since that determination.
China has long pursued a goal of developing dual-use capabilities for technology as part of its civil-military integration program. This sounds conceptually similar to US requirements that our own military use off-the-shelf components when possible to reduce cost, but Bloomberg notes that the policy allows China to purchase tech it might otherwise not be able to obtain.
It’s possible that Intel will be allowed to resume shipments after tweaking its supply lines, as implied, or that it will be able to sell certain chips to China but not others. In theory, the US government could attempt to sanction Inspur in terms of which CPUs it’s allowed to buy, or attempt to segment it by technology, allowing standard CPUs but not FPGAs or AI accelerators. The proposed remedies will depend on what the problems are in the first place.

Many FMCG and pharma companies that had paid Goods and Services Tax (GST) on raw materials and services used to manufacture perishable goods are staring at a situation where they will have to reverse input tax credit (ITC) availed, as these goods could never be sold before their expiry date due to the nationwide lockdown. As per the GST framework, companies have to first pay GST on raw materials or services used to make a product. Companies can avail the credit once the final product is sold to distributor or wholesaler. The wholesaler or the distributor could get the GST credit when they sell the product to the retailer. The problem now is, in many cases, the retailers are coming back and saying they are unable to sell the products as their shelf life has passed. This will lead to a situation where companies, wholesalers and in some cases even retailers will have to reverse the input tax credit availed.“An additional GST cost on these perishable goods further adds financial trouble for these businesses - which already have a significant loss linked to spoilage of limited shelf life products. The industry has represented aggressively on the issue and is expecting relief from the government on this issue,” said Abhishek Jain, Tax Partner, EY.Tax experts say that the situation gets even more complicated, as some raw materials don’t fall under the perishable bracket and then there is the issue of input services, so this would mean companies will have to proportionately calculate and reverse the input tax credit. Tax experts say that there could be two ways to deal with the situation. Either the goods are returned by the retailer back to the wholesaler and then to the manufacturer and credit is reversed (subject to timelines provided under the law), or a post sale price discount is given to compensate for losses. "But in such a situation, there is a dispute as to whether GST already paid can be adjusted by the manufacturer or distributor. In cases where the goods are not sold or destroyed, there is no option but to reverse the input credit. This is a major issue in FMCG and pharma sectors and more relevant in a Covid-19 scenario," said Pratik Jain, Partner and National Leader - Indirect Tax at PwC India. Many companies have also approached the government and sought a tweaking in the GST law temporarily due to Covid-19 pandemic. Companies want the revenue department to allow GST to be charged on actual cash receipts as against when invoices are raised. This would mean that companies do end up paying GST on bad debts or in cases where goods are not sold to the final customer.Insiders point out that many tax officials have objected to this proposal as they think this could result in a revenue leakage for the government. The worry is in many cases vendor or supplier could claim GST credit but the company may never pay the corresponding tax. from Economic Times https://ift.tt/3fl0CeO

The twin-turbo, 300-horsepower 3.0-liter inline-6 in the 335i convertible might have the mass of 4,023 pounds to move round, however there's not a quicker 4-seat convertible in need of a Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG.

Anny Gaul Koshari is filling, flavorful, easy to make, and basically perfect Last September, the Egyptian fast-casual chain Zooba opened a branch in Lower Manhattan. “Egyptians have a long history of hodgepodge cooking, stuffing carbs with even more carbs — and we aren’t the only ones.” — Egyptian novelist Nael El Toukhy Koshari’s history has always been something of a mystery. An East India Company official stationed there in the 1840s described the locals eating a mixture of lentils and rice cooked with ghee and flavored with “pickled lime or stewed onions.” Zooba [Official] Two versions of the Koshari served at New York’s Zooba pre COVID-19, now available for takeout and delivery In 1941, Egypt’s most famous cookbook, known as Kitab Abla Nazira, included two koshari recipes, one with yellow lentils and one with brown lentils. Anny Gaul Koshari is less about one ingredient than the right mix of textures and tastes. Build-Your-Own The robust grain-and-pulse genre provides a handy template for building a grain bowl from whatever’s on hand. Step 1: Form a base The foundation of the dish should include at least one grain (rice, pasta, or in a pinch, bulgar, freekeh, or even couscous) and one pulse (lentils, chickpeas). Step 2: Sauce it Sauces and dressings can make or break a grain bowl. Step 3: Customize From there, you can pepper in some caramelized onions or add your favorite pickles, fresh herbs, greens, or a soft-boiled egg. Follow the lead of dhow sailors with some hot chiles or pickled citrus. Step 4: Eat for days Koshari’s reliance on so many shelf-stable ingredients makes it great for cooking from the pantry, but it can also make the process of preparing it daunting.
