#AuthorLifeMonth2019 day 12. A shelved MS. You don't live to write across 13 notebooks without writing a few books you never show anyone. I wrote 'Aquista's Battle' when I was still in high school. The fun was in writing it. Curled into the roots of my favorite tree, on my favorite rock for sunning, the foot bridge in the park. That's what I think of when I think of this book. Warmth and sunlight. The premise was two twin girls named Aquista and Kamantra. Back then I liked to build new worlds for every novel I started. In this book, the society borrowed a lot from Sparta. Every family was required to turn over their first born SON at the age of six to join the military. After Aquista and Kamatra's mother gave birth to them she couldn't have more children. So the government agreed to take the more tomboyish of the two when they were six. Aquista. Upon reaching a certain age, the families were allowed to visit children. Aquista fell in love with her best friend, and so did her twin sister. The story slowly became more about two sisters fighting over a guy than all of these people struggling to find common grounds with each other and be a family. By then I was sick of it and needed to focus my energy on acquiring a driver's license rather than fixing a broken story. So there it sits.
