Can I request a ship name? I don't think Lightning/Ryoken has one so I'd like to suggest Speedshipping as "speed of light" and "faster than a speeding bullet" are both common sayings that go with their names, Lightning and Revolver. Proof of ship can be found here (not my fanfic):

Hi! There are two small issues with this name.

The first is that "Speedshipping" is a very generic term that is most likely already used either by another YGO ship or by some other fandom using -shipping names, such as Pokémon.

The second is that we need consent from the person who produced the proof of shipping that they approve of it being submitted to the shiplist as proof. Could you give us said proof or get the author to reach to us?

Is there a shiplist for FE3H fandom? If not, someone really needs to start one so we can uniform ship names to tag things better. XD I see that fans sometimes call MariClaude, but Claudianne is a good ship name, too. I know there’s ship names for Blyeth and the other popular pairings. Maybe the fans for Claude x Marianne should decide on a ship name together?

I’ll be honest with you anon... Contrary to what appearances may suggest... I’m not into shipping culture at all lmao 

So I really don’t know much about the ship names for this game. For all I know the fandom hasn’t even settled for one for the Claude x Byleth ship and it’s like the most popular for him, so idk, we’ll have to push one and let fate decide

From time to time I see people commenting about the fact that the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom uses ___shipping names rather than smush names and wondering why that fandom* has to be different (though we’re not actually the only fandom that does this, Pokemon does as well and may have done it even before, but I’ll touch on this later).

And jokes aside, it uh, kinda makes sense when you stop and think.

Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon are both long running (20+ years) series with literally hundreds of characters and over 900 episodes (Pokemon actually recently hit 1000).

Smush names are fine and all for series with small casts and/or aren’t overly long, but when you’ve been running for that many years, you develop some issues.

1) Similar sounding names.

Presuming for a moment that YGO used smushnames and smushnames only (b/c it *does* use smushnames every now and then, mainly on the JPN side of the fandom and while waiting for a shipname to be decided on), if I gave the name RyoYu, which pairing would I be referring to?

Would it be

a) Ryo Bakura and Yugi Muto

b) Ryo Marufuji and Yuskue Fujiwara

c) Ryoga Kamishiro and Yuma Tsukumo

d) Ryoken Kogami and Yusaku Fujiki

e) any crossover combination of these characters b/c crossover do happen (a lot)

The answer, literally any of these. These are all ships within the various series that logically could all be smushed into RyoYu (I may have even missed some combinations)

And then there’s the obvious fact that the Yunsound is in A LOT of character’s names in this series. Yugi, Yuskue, Yusei, Yuma, Yuya, Yuto, Yugo, Yuri, Yuzu, Yusaku...to name a few(and five of these names all appear in the same series). I mean, how do you smush Yuya and Yuri and make it distinct from a Yuya and Yuto smush?

Generally when you look at a smush name you should be able figure out the characters involved- TanuNatsu is clearly Tanuma/Natsume (Natsume Yuujinchou), EdWin is Edward and Winry (Fullmetal Alchemist), NaLu is Natsu and Lucy (Fairy Tail).

Which becomes hard when you have 20+ years, 6 series and literally hundreds of characters under your belt. Trying to make each and everyone distinct is, hard.

Also, not ever pairings is just two characters, OT3+s are surprisingly common and trying to smushname THOSE is even harder.

2) How to smush/multiple ways to smush

Sometimes two names just do not blend well together and you have to try obscure combinations to get a name.

For example in Cardfight!! Vanguard, trying to locate *any* fan work for Chrono Shindou and Shion Kiba. What shipname do I search under?

ChroShi? ShiChro? If it’s not under those what other combinations do I try in order to find content?

Turns out it’s actually under Shiokuro (specifically, written like this シオクロ)

Or, there are multiple ways TO smush a name but no one agrees on which one.

Homura Takeru and Yusaku Fujiki

Is it HomuYuu, TakeYuu?

What about Kogami Ryoken/Revolver and Yusaku Fujiki

Is it RevSaku, RevoYuu, YusaRyo, RyoYusa?

Answer, all of them (according to the shiplist page, these are all smushnames used for these pairings).

Which leads to a tagging problem. Do you tag it as all of them? As just one and if so which one? Which is the most active if they’re all in use?

Alternatively, one of these smushnames could also be the smush name of a pairing in a totally unrelated series. And that’s just gonna make it even harder for the smaller fandom to find content of their pairings.

So rather than finangling around going ‘do I use 4 different ship tags’ it’s easier to just throw ‘datastormshipping’ onto Yusaku/Revolver content and be done with it.

3) Dub and sub names.

While not a problem in a lot of series, YGO, and Pokemon, have the issue of names being changed when it gets an English adaptation. And sometimes the changes aren’t even close to the original in terms of sound or even letters.

Jounochi to Joey at least has the decency to keep the ‘Jou’ sound at the beginning. On the other hand, Hiroto Honda became Tristan Taylor and that is, vastly different.

Which then leads to the issue of, not everyone will have seen the sub and only knows the dub version, so now on top of there being smushnames that use their Japanese name, there’s going to end up smushnames using the dub name as well. So now if you want to find content for your pairing, the tags you gotta search may have just doubled.

Which brings us to ___shipping names.

As far as I can tell these are, mainly used by the English speaking side of the fandom (or at the very least the non-Japanese side of the fandom). These make it easier to search for content/tag content so it can be found or avoided.

It’s one tag to search though and one that’s *usually* descriptive in some way of the pairing (I say usually b/c there didn’t appear to be any regulation on DM ship names way back when just a, first come first serve basis with suggestions that didn’t need any kind of reasoning for them) and won’t overlap with unrelated fandoms. 

Smushnames cam work and we do sometimes use them, it’s just, sometimes you really, REALLY need an alternative b/c of the reasons mentioned above. And these kinds of names are almost certainly not going to be in use by anyone else.

I don’t know what we should call it?? I believe the current shiplist blog only accepts suggestions for pairings that have content in smushname tags. So… emakirchi? *massive world-ending shrug*

But in compensation for my lack of shipname creativity, here, have some headcanons:

Shoichi takes it personally when he finds out Akira doesn’t eat hotdogs. He stops taking his phone calls, and goes deep into the mountains to rethink what they’ve got going on. Akira is, naturally, pretty fucking devastated… but since he has the emotional intelligence of a wet carrot, it takes Ema sitting him down and bullying him into eating a hotdog---on camera---to save their relationship. All she’ll tell him is it’s for “Shoichi’s eyes only ;)”. He thinks it might be a fetish thing?? It’s w/e but damn, why hotdogs.

Ema is very anti-cuddling. Shoichi is pro-cuddling. Akira has never known the warm embrace of another human being. Cue Shoichi trying to cuddle Akira while the dude just lays there, blushing profusely. They ignore Ema’s rancorous laughter in the next room.

Imagine the horror. The sheer horror. That Ema and Akira experience when they find out their precious weenie man is literally living in his hotdog truck. 

Also consider: Ema and Akira in that same hotdog truck, covering for Shoichi when he gets sick. Ema’s refuses to tie up her hair so strands of it end up everywhere, Akira actively tries to discourage people from actually eating the hotdogs they’re trying to peddle, and they nearly run over half a dozen people trying to pull out for the night. 

Ema rarely cooks, but when she does it’s a shitshow? The end result is invariably a disaster?? But Akira and Shoichi pretend to like it anyway, because they know good and damn well Some Shit Will Go Down if they complain.

But really, Ema loves riding her bike with either Shoichi or Akira hanging on behind her. Sometimes she’ll even drive through her old gang’s turf, just to show them off. She feeds off of their jealousy, and they know better than to retaliate

He is polishing little details on the new prototype of Coulson’s hand; Jemma doesn’t know what number this one is, because he always has a new idea, something that will make it easier to use, more comfortable, more useful. When he doesn’t have anything else to work on, he always come back to this, and while she looks at his hands working on the little pieces like they were some form of art (on his hands they are, they are, Jemma is sure of that), she wonders if they could be happy doing this kind of thing, working on prosthetics, for example, with his mechanical knowledge and her anatomical one. She thinks they could be, as long as they were together.

We had talk with @vrains-shiplist and they agree that we are can be a Alternate ship blog for vrains while they be the offical blog.

Meaning we will not be taking name suggestions for ships that don’t have a ship name that is there jobs but we will however take name suggestions for the current ships that already have a name but these name must be in use.

If you suggest a name you are allowed to send us proof that the name is in use in someway and we will add it to the list, if not then we will search it up and if nothing comes up we will put it in the waiting list and give it at least 31 days if the name don’t still appear then we will either remove it unless noted other wise.

As of right now me, mod star and another mod will be happy to take your names suggestions, Mod rose currently has the flu so she may stop by from time to time, as for Mod Blue and Mod Zarc they are still currently not happy with how they was treated yesterday with alot of the misunderstanding from the anons so for now they will being taking a break until noted other wise

With the VRAINS air date only a week away now, I wanted to remind everyone that this blog exists!

The exact process of how submissions will work and what kind of timeframe/voting method vrship will have for name confirmation isn’t totally settled yet, which is where you guys come in - what kind of things do you have in mind for it? What kind of things do you think have and haven’t worked for the previous shiplists? What kind of rules do you want there to be about who can and can’t name ships, or what those names can be? What kind of timeframe do you think there should be between names being suggested and names being confirmed?

I’ll be setting up a poll in the next few days to start getting definite answers on how the fandom wants the shiplist run, but in the meantime please do hit up the askbox to let me know your thoughts!
