I wish this storyline didn't exist, wish we could've had him being gay in a different context, etc, but working within the idea of Will crushing on Mike, I actually do think him moving on and finding love elsewhere is way more fitting for his overall character arc than Mike recriprocating it

like I have my doubts if the writers even put that much thought into Will's character in the first place, but him crushing on his childhood best friend his entire life is very coherent with his general tendency to cling to the past at all costs, to refuse to accept change. which is a perfectly normal thing for a deeply traumatised kid who essentially got his childhood stolen from him, but is also, like, an unhealthy mindset the character should be allowed to overcome.

like one of the reasons I think Will's character has been sidelined and lost a lot of his presence in the narrative is that the writers just don't let him develop new bonds with anyone. I'm not even talking exclusively about romance here - Will is the only main cast member who has, yes, never had a proper love interest; but also never made a new friend or developed a new dynamic with anyone else. the closest thing we got to that was his sibling bond with El, but even then, it felt like the writers just moved them from point A to point B in the timeskip without allowing us to actually see the shift in their relationship.

the result of that is Will's character feels static in the narrative. and there are other reasons for that, of course - the writers don't let him make decisions that affect the plot, they seem to have lost interest in the byers' family dynamic that was so crucial to Will's screentime in previous seasons, etc. but working within the overall theme of Will rejecting change, I think requited b*l*r would not make sense, because it would ultimately validate that tendency of his. like "actually, Will, you can stay in Mike's basement for your whole life! isn't that neat?"

I get why people would want that because it's the ultimate fantasy, that your straight crush with a girlfriend actually has those deeply repressed feelings for you that he just wasn't aware of before, and it would be a subversion of the "gay kid likes straight friend" trope. but subversion for its own sake isn't good writing. it has to fit the characters' arcs and their themes, and in this case I just don't think it would.

Yes, I would assume so, seeing as it’s set in the same universe as MCU canon and takes place after Endg*me. But since when is official canon the end-all be-all? Haven’t we, as Stucky shippers, always taken liberties? Haven’t we always picked and chose specific details so that it fits our narrative better? Haven’t we written countless fics of multi-verses and fix-its and completely ignored everything except the basic premise of canon?

So yes, FATWS will probably mention Steve. And it most likely reference the events of Endg*me. But where does it say you need to like or accept or even believe the events of Endg*me to watch a show that is, quite frankly, not about Steve at all?

By definition, what you’re doing is boycotting (definition: withdrawing from commercial or social relations with something as a punishment or protest). Maybe not people, but definitely the show. Maybe you’re protesting Endg*me and not a black lead, but that’s still resulting in the show getting less views, being less popular, and resulting in less recognition for said black lead.

I’m sorry that thinking about Endg*me and the assassination of Steve’s character arc brings you so much pain. That sounds really hard. It’s not my intention to make you feel guilty for taking care of your mental health so much as it is to bring attention to the passive racism I’ve seen heavily on tumblr the past few weeks. Obviously please take care of yourself and your mental health first.

I know in previous fandoms I’ve been in, the moment it started invading my mental space and affecting my emotions so much, I’ve benefitted from taking a step back and looking at the big picture - this is a fictional story, with fictional characters, who we absolutely love, but at the end of the day live in our heads.

I bet we all have versions of them in our minds that vary based on what we admire about them, the fics and art we consume, and the canon and fanon we accept. Because of this, we can actually think about them any way we want. Because they are not real people, we have the power to accept or not accept things without letting it affect the rest of the story or characters.

In my view, canon is the skeleton of a house. It provides the basic shape, the structure, it gives everything a stable foundation. But as you build the house and fill in the insulation and drywall, you can change things. You can make additions or remove parts. You can fill it in however you want. And when it’s finally together, you get to choose the details - the lighting and cabinets and flooring - that you want because it’s your home and no one else’s. Hell, you could even sell the house and start over on a different plot.

I’m in fandom to have fun with fictional characters and escape from real life stress. And if I need to bend the rules of canon to what I like so that it continues to be a fun place for me, I damn well will do that.

Anyways. All that to say. I understand what you’re saying about hating Endg*me and not wanting to see that continue. All I’m saying is you can still promote Mackie in his first lead in Marvel. You can still give it clicks, even if you don’t watch the episodes. Or you can have a friend tell you where to skip to avoid any mention of Steve and Endg*me. You can reblog the press tours and gifsets without accepting the narrative it builds off of. You can still support a black lead in an Avengers production.

7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?

oh lmao I wouldnt have been able to understand this question yesterday, but like today I was again hunting scenes for gifs, and I found that Marcel actually holds no appeal to me, in fact, If Elijah decided to slap his head off, I wouldnt have minded at all. Also I was a forwood shipper at the time but now I look at them and have this inexplicable urge to scratch something.

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

Redemption arcs, jfc I HATE THEM, mostly bc my ability to perceive villains shuttles between two distinct opposites, "They are depraved, and evil and everything wrong in this world and I LOVE THEM." or "They are depraved and evil and everything wrong in the world and I HATE THEM" there is literally no in between, so in the first case I love them precisely because they are the scourge of the earth, and a redemption arc [not that I've ever seen one done even mildly ok-ish for the characters to actually redeem them] will literally work to unfuck their fuckiness that I absolutely ADORE. So no I do not want redemption arcs for them at all, and on the flip side when I hate an evil character the only redemption I will accept is them being of good use to the maggots that feast on their dead rotten corpse.

How to Roleplay on Jcink

Jcink is a forum hosting service that’s been used as a roleplaying platform for years. The setup of roleplaying on a forum can seem a little confusing, especially if you’ve only ever roleplayed on Tumblr, Twitter... or if you’re a 90′s kids, maybe even Neopets. 

Here, we wrote a guide on the basics of roleplaying on Jcink. It is by no means comprehensive, and please keep in mind that every roleplay has its own rules and regulations, so that should always be your first go-to when starting out. 

Step 0: Read the Rules

As mentioned above, every roleplay has their own set of rules. While most roleplays in Jcink largely maintain similar directives, it’s important you read up on them before joining. 

Step 1: Register an Account

To get started on a Jcink roleplay, you’ll need to register an account. Every roleplay has its own rules regarding which format you should register your character’s account. Some roleplays request that you register your username in upper- or lower or normal case e.g. HERMIONE GRANGER, hermione granger or Hermione Granger. All roleplaying for that character will be contained to that one account, including plotting and writing.

Step 2: Character Creation

Again, every roleplay is different when it comes to character creation. Whereas some roleplays only allow you to apply for canon characters (i.e. pre-written characters or characters based off of a franchise), others allow you to create your own.

When registering a character, be sure to check the “face claims”, which is an overview of all the different actors, actresses, etc. already reserved or claimed on the board. If you’ve settled on someone you’d like to use, feel free to put in a reserve for yourself, to make sure the face you’ve set your heart on will be available once your application is ready. If you’re having trouble picking a face claim, check our our Face Claim Masterlist.

The process is relatively similar, where you use the application form provided by the roleplay and fill out all the fields. These fields will include facts about the character (e.g. full name, age, gender, sexual orientation), a shipper (a general overview of the character’s personality, and what type of plots and relationships you are looking to form, usually subdivided as a. platonic, b. antagonistic and c. romantic) and usually a writing sample. Some roleplays require a minimum word count for the writing sample to qualify.

There are usually 3 types of formats used for the writing sample:

⇨ Biography In the biography format, the written sample is usually a chronological storytelling of the character’s life from the very start to the present day. Include things such as important events that took place to shape the character into the person they are today.

⇨ Interview In the interview format, a series of questions are written out and answered, in 1st person, as though the character is responding to them, in dialogue. Unless the roleplay provides a list of standard questions, try to think of several questions that will give a clear picture of the character (e.g. notable life events, strengths and flaws, etc.)

⇨ Freeform Freeform means you can freely choose how to format your writing sample. Some people choose to write theirs in the form of poetry, or prose, like a screenplay. It’s a more fluid form of giving people an idea of your character, by writing out events from their lives in which their personality really shows.

Once you’ve completed your application, an administrator will review and process it. You can tell your application has been accepted, as it will likely be moved out of the Registration forum and into the Character forum, along with all the other accepted characters.

If your application is pended, an administrator will approach you with notes on your character and how it can be edited and re-enter the application process for another review.

Step 3: Claims

The first thing you always do after being accepted is your claims. Every board has a certain number of mandatory claims. What is almost always mandatory is doing your face claim, filling out the member directory and occupations. Check with your roleplay’s rules what claims are mandatory to fill out.

Step 4: Plotting and posting in shippers

A shipper refers to the portion of characters’ applications that give an overview of things like personality, the type of relationships they have and how they act around them. Like: do they have a lot of friends, or are they more of a loner? Do they tend to make enemies fast? Are they kind of a floozy, or more the type of person seeking a long-term commitment regarding romance? 

Writing a good shipper is pretty important, as it makes you more accessible to receive plot suggestions from other roleplayers. Plotting with a lot of people, and trying to create meaningful connections with their characters is the easiest (and arguably best) way to get started writing. Browse around the shipper forum and read up on all the other characters, but check your own often enough to see if anyone has approached you for plots!

Tip: Create an alert for your own shipper thread, so you are notified whenever anyone posts in your shipper! You can do this by scrolling down to the bottom of your shipper, and clicking ‘Topic Options’ and then selecting ‘Track This Topic’.

Step 5: Write & Play

From here on out, there’s really not much else to it. It’s time to write and play ✧。٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و✧。In Jcink, forums are generally categorized into different locations, providing pre-written settings for your characters to interact in, such as a suburban neighborhood, local coffee cafe, the woods or beach. 

Writing can start once a thread is made in the form of a topic. When you select a setting/forum you’d like to start your thread in, click ‘Create New Topic’. You’ll have to choose a title for your thread, which, can be anything you want it to be. Some people choose song lyrics, poetry. Check out our Thread Titles Masterlist if you’re stumped! In the topic description, you should tag whoever your writing partner is, e.g. their character’s name + alias. Or, if you’re posting a thread that anyone’s free to respond to, you can just tag it as “open”.

Once you’ve created your thread, that forum topic will pretty much be the place where your entire scene plays out, by replying back and forth within the thread. So when your writing buddy has written a you a response, all you have to do is hit ‘New Reply’ to continue on.

These are the basics. Again, it’s by no means comprehensive, but it should be enough to get you started. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or ask questions to more experienced Jcink roleplayers. People in our community are super friendly and keen to help.

the freestyle part of your application can be found under the about the character section of the profile. we ask a minimum of 300 words to write about the character background, personality, or even wanted connections (whatever you feel like will provide us with a good view of who your character is, the sky is the limit!), there is no maximum limit of words, allowing you to explore as much as you feel - and update quickly, if the story changes! we know that character's develop, and sometimes your initial view changes. profile applications make those changes easy peasy, if you decide you want to!

a few quick tips to help you out! html is enabled in the freestyle section - this just means that you can use bold, italics, underline, strike through, member group color and center left and right as you please, and it'll show up on your profile! but please DO NOT use the br or p when breaking up your paragraphs - please use spaces instead and DO NOT use straight apostrophes ('), curved only (’) or it will break the coding.

lastly, but not less importantly: please properly tag your trigger warnings within the freestyle portion, before starting the actual content. you can use the tags, or group color tags - anything to make it stand out, if you will be exploring any triggering content within your freestyle portion. profiles are often clicked on - by members, guests, and those just browsing around. for their safety and yours, please make sure you are mindful of triggering material.

as you can see in the preview above, there are a few things you can utilize to make the freeform section of your biography have a little bit of color! whether or not you choose to utilize them is completely and totally up to you!.

Blue Christmeth takes place on Archive Of Our Own. To sign up for the exchange, log into AO3, go to the Blue Christmeth 2019 collection page, and click “sign up”. You get to make four separate requests (prompts) and one offer. Each request needs to have at least one character associated with it - when you start typing a name in the “characters” field, it should autofill with a name you can click on. You can also add up to three pairings in the “relationships” field. In the “Description” box, you can write any kind of prompt you like for your chosen characters/ships, or leave it blank. Here’s a sample request:

(NB: some characters and pairings won’t autofill when you type them in— this is likely to happen with minor characters or rarepairs that haven’t been added to AO3 yet. If you want to select a particular character or pairing and it isn’t coming up, just message/email me and I’ll add it to the tag set.)

The “offers” section works the same way— you can select 3 to 20 characters and up to 6 pairings you’re willing to write/draw, and put any extra details in the “description” box. This is the place to mention any limits you’d like me to know about, such as “I’m okay with dark and violent prompts”, “I’m not comfortable with anything super explicit”, or “I’ll write about characters A & B in a platonic relationship, but not as a pairing”. Because Blue Christmeth is a small exchange, I can look at each offer individually and take these details into account when matching people. The requests part of your sign-up will be visible to everyone, but your offers will be kept hidden and only collection maintainers will be able to see them.

You can edit your sign-up as much as you like until sign-ups close on November 22nd, so it’s no problem if you want to add/remove characters or change your prompts entirely. After that, everyone will be assigned a gifter and a recipient, and you’ll be sent an assignment by the end of the 25th.

Request Rules

Your requests can involve any canon characters from Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and/or El Camino. Your prompts can also involve any canon or non-canon relationships between those characters.

Your prompts can be as G-rated or as explicit as you like, but at least one of your four prompts MUST be gen (not focused on a romantic or sexual pairing). It’s fine if your gen prompt is about a non-sexual relationship or friendship. This rule is in place so that both shippers and non-shippers can enjoy Blue Christmeth. Please respect the spirit of the rule and make sure that your gen prompt is actually gen, not just a shipping prompt without a ship tag!

While there’s no hard-and-fast rule against prompts involving crossovers and fandom-based AUs (e.g. “Breaking Bad characters in the Star Trek universe”), please consider that the person who gets your request may not know anything about the other fandom, and may have to choose one of your other prompts to fulfill.

Fulfilling Your Assignment

This part is easy— when you upload your finished work to AO3, just check the box next to “Does this fulfill a challenge assignment?”, and select your assignment in the field next to it:

Please make sure that these boxes are checked before you hit “post”! Otherwise, your work will not be submitted to the Blue Christmeth collection, and everyone will be able to see it as soon as it’s uploaded to AO3.

Tip: if you’re nervous about associating your draft work with your assignment before it’s complete, you can just treat it as a normal AO3 draft and leave the boxes unchecked until it’s 100% done and ready for your recipient to see. This is what I usually do with my own assignments.

Deadlines

Assignments are due on Sunday, January 12th, 2020, at 9 p.m. UTC (find out what that is in your time zone here). Anyone who has not submitted a gift by the deadline will be defaulted and their assignment will be sent to a pinch-hitter. No extensions will be granted this year, so please keep the deadline in mind during the writing period. I will send reminder emails to all participants two weeks and one weeks before the deadline. There are no penalties for dropping out, so if January 12th is approaching and you know you won’t be able to finish on time, contact me and I’ll find a pinch hitter to take over your assignment.

Reveals

Everything submitted to the Blue Christmeth 2019 collection is hidden until reveals on January 19th. At that point, everyone will be sent a link to their gift, and the works will be visible on AO3 for everyone to read, but creators’ names will remain hidden until January 26th. It’s not a hard-and-fast rule, but please do try to leave a comment on your gift to show your Blue Christmeth Dealer your appreciation!

Q: How many of my recipient’s prompts do I need to write/draw?

A: Just one!

Q: Are participants matched in pairs (as in, A writes for B and B writes for A)?

A: Usually not, although it can happen.

Voltron S3 Reaction Post!

Because I can, and I wanna write all of this down before I wake up tomorrow with possibly blurry memories of plot points (now with some next day additions thrown in).

Just in case anyone’s reading this half asleep, don’t click if you don’t want spoilers for Voltron Legendary Defender Season 3:

My favorite thing, I think, about the season was all of the new characters.  I loved them.  I loved Sven and Alt!Slav, I loved Lotor and his Quirky Miniboss Squad, I loved ye olde Paladins. I didn’t love the the Alt!Alteans because that would imply affection instead of deep unsettled fear, but dang were they a great concept.  I want all the fic about these people.

My Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle-loving soul is just basically rolling around in the fact that alternate universes are a plot point.  Also, kudos to the writers for using Slav for foreshadowing.

I was really worried I was gonna hate the lionswitching but they pulled it off in ways that felt true to the characters and their arcs.  I am a little worried about the whole leadership dynamic with Keith and Shiro though.

If Shiro’s not piloting, I’d like to see him leading from the bridge, maybe?  I wish it was possible for him to pilot the castle ship but he’s not Altean.  I wonder what they’re gonna do with everyone, in the end.

That said, I am not a shipper but they are doing good things with Lance and Keith’s dynamic.  I am pleased.

I am Concerned about what they did to Shiro.  I’m like, 90% sure he’s a walking Trojan Horse now and I hate it.

Ohmigosh the backstory.  So they’re not even really evil they just got corrupted by quintessence and....Haggar.  Just...Haggar.  She’s always been the power behind the throne, hasn’t she?

Also, yeah, I’m pretty sure that Lotor is in fact her kid and is half-Altean.  He’s even drawn with her face-shape.  Voltron’s not that same-facey.  Does he know?  Is this why his Quirky Miniboss Squad is entirely halfblood?

That first fight scene with Lotor had me feeling all of my old Zechs Merquise feels until the very end, when I realized he is not in fact Zechs, but Treize.  Unfortunately, I still have a weakness for suave, pretty, ruthless villains with skill at Xanatos Gambits, particularly ones who believe they have a moral imperative.  And Lotor is operating as though he does.

I don’t remember all the Miniboss Squad names but the one with the rainbow head-tail (I wanna call it a lekku because, I mean, close enough?) reminded me of Ty Lee, just a bit more consciously vicious.

Also, the blind one, who uses the cat to see and can do mind control?  First of all, cool powers,  second of all, terrifying powers, third of all, this really does follow a theme of disabled Galrans being promoted highly as long as they have a sufficient adaptive device and are more lethal than others around them.  Which is cool.

 I specifically want fic about the alternate universe. I want Sven and Alt!Slav buddy stuff; I want epics about their struggles against Altea and the story of how they eventually pick up a bunch of Earth kids and know they’re important because of the interdimensional visitors.  (I want Sven not to die in fic.  But I’m choosing to take Sven’s canonical implied death as an indication that they’re not going to kill Shiro quite yet, and not foreshadowing.  So there.)  Also, like, the tech the alternate Alteans had, to keep their slaves under control? Scary as heck.  Like, again, I need fic.  But also I love that the showrunners did that; that they deliberately showed the ways in which Altea’s outlook could be twisted into something as bad or worse than the Galra. (Not gonna lie, if I had to pick between the two universes, not even taking into account comparative resistance strengths, I’d still pick canon.  Evil Altea is terrifying and widespread mind control scares me more than violent oppression.)

The planet from the first episode, that Lotor took?  The paladins still haven’t noticed that it happened, to my knowledge.  That is gonna come back at them, mark me.

I have every feel about the brief period when Voltron was in the alternate reality and Coran thought he’d lost everyone he had left of any importance save the mice.

Next day Additions:

I have now skimmed the tag, and I admit the whole Clone!Shiro thing didn’t occur to me.  While I knew Shiro looked off I couldn’t put a finger on how and since my memory’s crap I dismissed it as my brain being weird, and while he was acting oddly, I put that down to his additional trauma.  The clone theory is certainly compelling though.  There’s a fair bit of good evidence for it, though I really don’t think it’s absolutely the only explanation.

Also, just putting this out there: I saw a weird and disconcerting amount of hate for “Fake” Shiro. First, if he’s real people will regret it. Second, hate the showrunners for this, sure, but in the words of like six different fictional clones, he didn’t ask to be made.  In fact, nothing in the narrative indicates he even knows.  Even if he’s a mole, even if he actively injures or kills one of the protagonists, unless he makes some kind of conscious choice to do so, I am firmly on team “Clone!Shiro is a victim too.”  If indeed he is Clone!Shiro, and I’m still not absolutely sold on that.

As a final note, I’m a little disappointed by the little spaceship Lotor made out of the comet.  It’s clearly fast as heck, and nice and maneuverable, but it’s not an incredibly extra robot and I feel cheated.  I am hoping it turns out to be another transforming robot a la Gundam Kyrios.

I’m sorry it took this long, I was being lazy but I’m really excited to talk about my works! Thank you so much for tagging me! (I’ll take the chance to talk about my fanfics though, so I’m not sure if you know these fandoms D:)

The Wind Upon the Mountain: Tales of Zestiria/Berseria fanfic focused on Zaveid’s inner feelings and conflicts. This is obviously the first fic I’ll mention because, as most of you probably already know, it’s my favorite thing from any of the fanfics or any other fiction and texts I EVER wrote. SERIOUSLY. I think a lot about Zaveid’s background ever since I finished Tales of Zestiria for the first time, and there were SO MANY HINTS but like? That was it? I NEEDED MORE AND IT WAS SO FRUSTRATING?? Now that I played Berseria and learned more about him, I also think I’m starting to figure out how his mind works, or at least how I think it does. I loved writing him (despite all the angst. IT WAS PAINFUL.) and I’m already planning to write another one very soon (if I stop procrastinating so much ;a;)

Forever: Yu-Gi-Oh! manga fanfic focused on the first time Ryou Bakura is aware of the Millennium Ring spirit’s consciousnesses. This is a very short piece, but it’s my second favorite. You know what, I hardly ever like my own fanfics, but I love the oneshots I just picked and I’m really proud of myself for writing them?? ANYWAY, I wrote it for a request made by @pharaoh-ink, and I’m really really REALLY grateful for it because it made me learn many things I never noticed about Ryou Bakura. I’ve been in this fandom since I was 12 and I DIDN’T THINK MY VIEWS ON CHARACTERS COULD CHANGE THIS MUCH after all this time? But how??? Did I never notice??? THIS WONDERFUL BOY??? (He’s so neglected by his own friends and YGO canon itself that I already know the answer BUT HOW DIDN’T I SEE IT BEFORE? HONESTLY???) SO YEAH. I love this fanfic because I’m really proud of the results, and also because it helped me learn a LOT more about an universe that I didn’t think could expand this much after so many years. I’m really glad that I wrote it :D

Please Stay: Tales of Xillia, Jumilla oneshot. This one is even shorter, and it’s basically a quick reflection on Jude’s feelings for Milla at the end of the game. It’s not the most amazing fanfic ever, but it was the first fanwork I managed to write after lots and lots of planning (and also some help from @maginpui ) I only original characters until then, so it was a nice start! I’ll always cherish this small fic :D

Hidden in the Snow: Tales of the Abyss oneshot. I wrote this scene of Luke and Tear having a conversation and sharing a moment in Keterburg before the (first) final battle for @maginpui, and I’m also really grateful for this request because I LOVED writing Tear’s PoV. It’s one of those fics that I simply started writing and, when I noticed, it was done. I LOVED WRITING IT ;a;

Under a Clear Sky: Okay, the last one was hard to choose, but I’ll go with this one! It’s a letter Mikleo wrote to Sorey after the end of Tales of Zestiria, and I was very insecure when I wrote it. Writing this was very difficult for me since it was a secret santa gift and it’s a pairing that I’m not too familiar with (I love the game/anime canon, I’m just not a shipper), so it was kind of a challenge. I do hope the result paid off, though, because I’m really happy I made it through and finished it!! :D

MEL'S STUFF AND THANGS TO SURVIVE YOUR FIRST WALKER STALKER CON

As many of you already know, we will be attending Walker Stalker Nashville this year. This will be my third Walker Stalker Convention and I think it’s safe to say I’m addicted. I love Walker Stalker the way I love Richonne. And y'all know how much of a Richonne shipper I am so that's a whole lot of love.  Though you can definitely catch much of the cast at other conventions, Walker Stalker's focus is all things TWD. So here's a list of a few thaaangs to help you survive your first Walker Stalker Convention. [caption id="attachment_21709" align="alignright" width="169"] If you want to have a moment like this, make sure to attend the Atlanta or London WSC.[/caption] -Know what your ticket gets you. There are 4 ticket levels at varying price points available for WSC: General Admission, VIP, Gold, and Platinum. Though Gold and Platinum certainly come with their perks, they also come with a higher price tag. Let me let you in on a little secret. With the right planning, you can likely still achieve many of your WSC dreams with a VIP or GA ticket. Additionally, now that WSC has implemented pre paying for autographs for big names like Norman Reedus, that helps to reduce your wait times. If you have general admission and all you want in the world is to stand next to Norman for 5 seconds and breathe in his rugged beauty, purchase a photo op. Also, beware that Andrew Lincoln typically only attends the Atlanta and London conventions. -Pour some Bisquick and do some good! Make sure to bring some Bisquick or another nonperishable item to Michael Cudlitz's booth for his food drive. Though Bisquick is a popular items to bring, you can also bring things like fruit juice boxes and canned vegetables. -Maybe don't wear the stilettos.  You will be standing in line a lot. There’s a line to get in. A line for photo ops. A line for autographs. A line for food. A line for the bathroom. You get the picture. Those 6 inch stilettos may make you stand tall next to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but they will make your life miserable. Plan accordingly. -Cash me outside. But for real. Get your cash from anywhere but the ATM inside the convention center to avoid hefty fees. Remember, all autographs and table photos are cash only. Prices vary by attendee so come with more than you think you need. Because when you see that Ross Marquand will make a video for you while doing a Matthew McConaughey impression you are gonna give the WSC gods all your money. [caption id="attachment_21703" align="alignleft" width="223"] Selfies with Josh McDermitt are the BEST![/caption]  -You have to take at least one table selfie. My vote is always with either Josh McDermitt or Michael Cudlitz. Both have a penchant for taking hilarious selfies and taking time with their fans. Also, they give the best hugs. Don't take my word for it. DO IT! -Pack snacks like you're preparing for the apocalypse. Because you never know if the lines for refreshments will be insane/if the zombie plague might occur while you’re waiting in line for a $15 sandwich. And if it does happen, you already have a great talking point for convincing Steven Yeun to join your very own Survivors Club. [caption id="attachment_21696" align="alignright" width="170"] Norman Reedus meeting and greeting fans at WSC Atlanta 2016[/caption] -Thou shalt not bite Norman Reedus. Or kiss, or grope, etc, etc. It’s an emotional moment. I get it. ;) You’ve been planning your wedding to Norman since he had the dark emo hair in season 4. But so has every other female in the building. So let’s keep the honeymooning in our heads and hide our crazy, k? -Meet and greets are short. Notice this is called a Meet and Greet. Not a Meet and Bare Your Soul for half an hour. Some guests are able to take more time with their fans. However guests like Melissa McBride who are there for one day only, will likely move very quickly. If there is someone you really want to meet, hit their line first. Prepare your heart with one thing you really want to say to them. Introduce yourself. Say hi. They are people too. They just happen to be really really really cool people. [caption id="attachment_21689" align="alignleft" width="300"] Kia during her magical photo op with Danai Gurira[/caption] -Photo Ops are fast. Read that sentence again. Your photo op is now over. That’s how fast it is. This is not a meet and greet. Don’t even think about asking for an autograph. Many guests do welcome fans to have fun with their photo ops and many choose to pose creatively. If you have something special in mind, be prepared to tell the celebrity quickly or show them a photo on your phone as an example. Then throw that phone down FAST. I cannot reiterate this enough, guys. Be prepared to move quickly. Have everything off of you that you don’t want in the picture and place it on the table in the photo op area. Also, find out ahead of time if the guest you want to take a picture with allows cosplay weapons if that’s something you are in to. Some guests do not allow anything resembling a weapon. Please be respectful of their boundaries! [caption id="attachment_21702" align="alignright" width="200"] 90s soap opera or photo op with Jeffrey Dean Morgan?[/caption] -Take in a panel!  Depending on who you want to meet/how many folks you want to meet, you can spend several hours of your day in line. But one of the great things about WSC is getting to take in the panels. Cast members take fan questions and give you a behind the scenes look at The Walking Dead. -Do a lap around the convention floor and visit the vendors. There are so many! I’m not just talking about buying t shirts, though you can certainly find some great ones. Make sure to check out the Zombie Charm School booth where you can take photos with some of the best TWD cosplayers around including The Daryl Dude. [caption id="attachment_21693" align="alignleft" width="225"] Kia and the cutest little Carol cosplayer ever[/caption] -Dress to impress! Cosplayers are one of my favorite parts about convention life. I have seen some amazing ones. Some of my favorites include the little kiddos dressed like our favorite survivors. -Download the Walker Stalker Con app. From there you can access the full schedule of events and plan your days accordingly. Here's the thing. If you don't have anything you are dying to accomplish, by all means, be spontaneous and do everything on the fly! In my experience though, you will enjoy yourself more if you have at least some kind of loose plan. -Make new friends! This is without a doubt my favorite part of the whole thang. I met my first WSC friend while standing in line to meet Tom Payne in Nashville in 2016. We then had lunch and discussed our love for our favorite show. Cindy is now one of my favorite people on the planet. There is a whole community of fans out there that is just as obsessed as we are. The Walking Dead fandom is one of the most loyal. Not just to the show and its cast, but to each other. I have made so many beautiful friends because of this show and this convention that I will be a WSC devotee for as long as they continue to have them.
