(posting tweets that articulate what i want to say because i’m still incoherent about that episode) literally this. i hate some ken defenders on here. ken reacted because he felt slighted. not because he gives a shit about his kids. those kids - to him - are an extension of him. a reflection of him. they aren’t real people to him. not really

Caroline hates seeing girl Kendall and Shiv getting along because she considers it "fraternizing with the enemy" and assumes they're bonding over what a terrible mother she is

idk if any of you have seen this but deadline posted a pdf of the full script for "connor's wedding" if anyone is interested and it's full of devastating action lines.

One little detail that I really love about Succession is the fact that it's explicitly confirmed in the show that Kendall, Shiv, and Roman have all been to therapy—and yet they've clearly still never actually processed or confronted the trauma and dysfunction in their lives.
They all acknowledge that on some level they need help and that what's happened to them isn't okay, but they're so deeply invested in the power structures that hurt them that no amount of talking will actually change anything. They can't really confront the reality of their father and what happened to them, because that would mean rejecting the myths they've been raised on and profit off of, and none of them are willing to do that. So the cycle keeps going.

Love my tumblr succession girlies. They never fail to make the most gut wrenching posts/ parallels/ observations that make me question my sanity
But for real, it opens the show up for me. When I notice something in the episode and get excited because someone on here pointed out that same tiny detail, when people point out new layers and complexities that I wouldn’t have appreciated otherwise that’s that good shit <3

absolutely in love with the fact that it all came down to shiv roy’s vote in the end: jesse armstrong wrote a finale that literally forces you to try to fit a whole woman inside your head in order to have any hope of understanding it.

i am haunted by the idea that of all the roy siblings, shiv looks the most like logan. she will never escape her father, because how could she ever? he's right there when she sees herself. they're cut from the same stiff cloth. rotting fruit doesn't fall far from the wormwood tree
anyways SIOBHAN ROY WILL YOU BE MY VALENTINE? because i love you completely. happy valentine's day all :') endless thanks to the commissioner of this piece, THE ONE AND ONLY @shivroy, thanks a million

idk where the shiv wanting to be/acting masculine thing comes from
like it’s a fun and insightful reading if it exists but i’m not really picking up on it
while she never outright says like I Wish I Were A Man or anything, her whole throughline is basically being disrespected and ignored by the men around her because of her gender, and to try and counter that, she attempts to avoid ever doing anything that could be perceived as ‘feminine’ — ie, showing emotion (aside from anger/pride), desiring love/connection/etc, displaying vulnerability of any form, appearing dependent or not self-sufficient in any way, etc etc etc. she looks down on anyone who does express those things because that’s what she’s been taught to do anc also because that’s how she fits in with the men around her. she tries to come across as ‘masculine’ because it’s the only way she thinks anyone will ever take her seriously. the only times she directly acknowledges her gender is to weaponize it, often against other women (see: gerri, the cruises victim, etc). she wants to be seen as a man at work — and in her personal life; i mean, look at her relationship with tom. she’s non-monogamous, emotionally distant, commitment-phobic, dominant, clearly ‘wearing the pants’ in the relationship or whatever. all of this is very very common for women who exist in male-dominated spaces, especially if said women desire to succeed in said spaces. it’s a pretty common trope — ambitious, career-focused woman rejects ‘femininity’ and anything societally associated with it in an overcompensating attempt to appear ‘on par’ with her male peers — and definitely one i personally am drawn to and resonate with! too lazy to go through and like find scenes or whatever so i hope this is enough lmao
tl;dr — she’s had to adopt ‘masculine’ characteristics and repress ‘feminine’ ones (which basically means anything relating to vulnerability of any sort) in order to survive let alone thrive in her male-dominated environment !!

I wonder how old Shiv was when she started to become Kendall's competition, both for their dad's love and in her challenging Ken's leadership and proving that she was as smart and mature and competent as him. And then of course there's Roman in the middle, getting bossed around by both of them.
