I’ve had my thoughts about this and wanted to share it.

So like, you remember the episode(forget the number) where Shizuka goes to test Mouri, they run into a murder, then Heiji and Kazuha appears and then Heiji mentions how she didn’t come and visits him the hospital?

And like, I call BS! Cause you can’t tell me that Shizuka didn’t drop what she was doing and go to the hospital check up on her son. Maybe even sneak some food into the hospital. I get vibes of a loving and protective mother who would do whatever to protect her kids.

She went to Tokyo to test Mouri because of how many times Heiji got injured while he visited his bestie.

I can understand Heizo not coming right away. Especially if a criminal injured Heiji. He’d made sure that the unlucky person is not going anywhere(and maybe even scare the hell out of them for daring to harm his son). He’d also be messaging Shizuka, asking for any updates(and maybe a photo or two). And once he’s done, he’ll go over and join Shizuka at the hospital.

He’d probably make a jab at Heiji for getting hurting, but he would also make sure that he’s good and that he’s getting what he needs. Also, he would defiantly “ground” Heiji(let’s be honest, Heiji would probably jump straight back into life without giving his body time to heal) and make sure he’s healed before letting him do detective or kendo.

Seriously, Gosho, give them moments of showing how good of parents they are to Heiji. (And like, maybe throw the other parents in there as well)

The Slightly Unhinged Tier List of Het Romance Options for Rei

This is fun to think about. I didn't include: - dead people (with two exceptions) - women under the age of 20 (sorry not sorry) - men (for... obvious? reasons?? but I did consider including Okiya regardless because he might as well be Rei's housewife. but by that logic, I should've included Takagi, too. anyway, no men.) - movie characters or case-of-the-week characters (mostly, but I guess it depends on how you define them)

Now slightly edited because I forgot to include Midori.

Here we go! From worst to best, in my opinion.

Group 1: Control Group (AKA "the bar is in Hell"). -100/10 This is just Az*sa. The bar for which every other listed woman is measured against. No need for further commentary; if you need to know how I feel about her, I have a salt tag for a reason.

Group 2: The Moms. 0/10 Options: Miyano Elena, Sera Mary, Toyama Sakura, Hattori Shizuka, Kisaki Eri, Kudou Yukiko.

Elena: Okay look, I know what Gosho said (about her being Rei's first love), but no. I refuse to acknowledge that. I will continue to believe he saw her as a pseudo-mother figure. Also she's dead. So no. They cannot be together, I'm sorry.

Mary: I am of the belief that (in a ShuuRei setting), Mary would adore Rei. Genuinely think she'd love him. I'm not sure Rei would feel the same about her (I'm convinced of the opposite, in fact). And in a non-ShuuRei setting, I think they would clash. A lot. There would be explosions and international incidents.

Sakura: Kazuha's mom has literally appeared once and she's wacky. They've never met (which is also a different tier, but as a Certified Mom, she fits here better). They'll likely never meet. I don't want them to end up together. And that's forgetting the fact that she's married.

Shizuka: Heiji's mom. See previous, except she's appeared more than once.

Eri: Somehow still better than both Kogo/Eri and Kogo/Amu, but no thank you. I do love that she called him out as an undercover cop, though. 10/10 for that moment. Love her (sometimes). Wish she had a better husband, but Rei would not be a good one for her.

Yukiko: Somehow the best option in this group. Still not a good one. Do I care that she's married? Not really. I think Yuusaku lets her do what (and who) she wants, probably. But even if I look past my "Rei is very, very gay" blinders, I can't see Yukiko and Rei working out. She's a bit too.... Yukiko for him.

Group 3: I don't think they've met. 1/10 Options: Miike Naeko, Miyamoto Yumi, Fusae Campbell.

Naeko: I don't have much to say about her. Or her with Rei. I don't mind her as a character (the skinny Chiba thing aside), but I can't imagine her and Rei working out long term. He's too cold for her personality type. (Don't get me wrong, he has a temper. He's very passionate about things. But when it comes to actual interpersonal relationships, everyone is at arm's length.)

Yumi: Good lord, no no no. She can have her dysfunctional relationship with Akai's brother, Rei has enough problems. (They should not be subjected to each other.)

Fusae: This would be the most loveless relationship in the series because Fusae is probably still in love with Agasa, and Rei 's married to his job. Disaster. Would be kinda funny though.

Group 4: They've... met, I guess. 3/10 Options: Kobayashi Sumiko, Yonehara Sakurako, Kuriyama Midori, Okino Yoko.

Kobayashi: You know what? At least he doesn't look at her and see Satou. They can bond over the kids (because Rei has a soft spot for kids, too, and this is something I firmly believe). She might even be a little more understanding about his police work (if she knows about it) than most would, since she's currently dating a different police officer. I wouldn't necessarily hate this, but it just kinda falls under "bland, but inoffensive" like most DetCo pairs.

Sakurako: The maid girl who has almost as bad of luck as Shinichi. Yeah, they wouldn't work out, and frankly she'd be too traumatized by whatever Rei goes through for it to be healthy for her. But not the worst pairing out there.

Midori: Eri's assistant, not Megure's wife. Just to be clear. Anyway. I'm pretty sure Rei scared Midori away with that one time he dropped her off at the office, so that's probably not gonna work out.

Yoko: Pop Idol x Undercover Cop seems like a recipe for disaster, but the premise might be fun.

Group 5: D for "At Least One Of Them Will Die". 5/10 Options: Vermouth, Chianti, Wakasa Rumi, Kir.

Vermouth: No. No. No. Nope. No. Listen, I get it. They're both hot. They're both (sort of) criminals. They work together. My answer is still No. They will kill each other within a couple of days. At best.

Chianti: I'm dying at the thought, and Rei's dying because Chianti won't even entertain the thought.

Rumi: Rei's dead within the week. She won't even feel bad about it.

Kir: The longest-lasting relationship in this tier, maybe they could even work out. But I doubt it. If they don't kill each other, they part on bad terms.

Group 6: (second) Worst Case Scenario. 5.5/10 Options: Satou Miwako, Jodie Starling.

Satou: Despite the name of this group, this isn't actually the (second) worst option. Do I want Satou and Takagi to break up so that Satou can be with Rei? Absolutely not. Do I think it could work? ...also no. But do I think it would be funny and kinda hot for all of about two days before they end up hating each other? Yes. Satou needs her malewife. Satou and Takagi are the one well-written canon relationship in the entire series, and I don't want to see it ruined for the sake of giving Rei a het romance option, but it would still be better than the Control Group.

Jodie: Hear me out: it would be hilarious. They might not even kill each other. They would, however, annoy the absolute hell out of each other. This would be a terrible situation for Akai, which honestly makes me like it more. (One of my pettier reasons for not wanting these two together is that, aside from their personalities, they look a bit too similar.)

Group 7: Chaos Tier. 6/10 Options: Uehara Yui, Hagiwara Chihaya.

Yui: Honestly? Probably the best living woman to both match Rei's energy and not lead to rampant property destruction at the same time. This woman married a man just to work on a case. Tell me Rei wouldn't also pull a stunt like that. Sure, she doesn't know Furuya Rei exists, but she's a cop, and she's only a couple degrees separated from the entire situation, given Koumei's connection to Rei through Hiro. So it wouldn't be the worst. She could probably handle him. It would be a shame to break her up from her boys, though.

Chihaya: Platonic soulmates who may have never met (we'll have to wait and see if Gosho has them interact, I guess). I don't know that I'd necessarily like them as a couple, though I think they could maybe work (definitely causing rampant property destruction, though), but I do want them to be BFFs. They can bond over Hagi and Matsuda. It'll be... idk if cute is the right word. It'll be something, for sure.

And finally, Group 8: The Love Triangle From Hell. 7/10. Option: Miyano Akemi.

So. Listen. Hear me out. Putting aside the fact that she's dead, and that this would technically be another "childhood friend romance," I do think, if she were still alive and not eternally tied to Akai (hence the group name), she would be the best option for Rei.

They've both got experience with the BO, and trauma to work through. Akemi, if I can extrapolate from what little personality she's been given, is a bit on the mischievous side, so I think she could keep up with Rei's general chaotic nature at his worst times. They both loved Elena.

I don't think it would be easy for either of them, and I think they would probably fight a lot, but I think they could make it work, if they both wanted to.

That being said, even the "best" het options only get at most a 7/10 from me because the actual best option for Rei is Akai. I don't make the rules.

One time when they were kids, Kazuha somehow got chewing gum in her hair, which prompted her mother to cut her hair really really short. That was the shortest her hair has ever been in her 6 years of living.

Kazuha was really sad about it, especially since it was too short to wear her favourite ribbon. Furthermore, the boys at kindergarten did not make it easier.

"Kazuha's a boy!!"

"AHOU! I'M NOT A BOY"

"She looks like a boy!!"

"I DON'T"

Kazuha was about to tackle the rowdy crowd despite the tears threatening to spill, but Heiji stepped forward in front of her.

With his tiny hands in his pocket, he leered at his classmates. "Ahou, you don't need to be a detective to see that Kazuha's a girl. Are ya idiots blind?"

Kazuha looked at Heiji with awe in her eyes. Her six-year-old heart was beating weirdly, but she didn't know why.

The boys looked flustered and raised their voices. "What did ya say-"

"She's clearly gonna cry like a girl"

Kazuha snapped. "HEIJI YOU IDIOT"

"What? You were about to cry, ahou"

"NO"

"YES YOU DID"

"NO I DIDN'T"

"CRYBABY!"

"AM NOT!"

The group of boys stared awkwardly as Heiji and Kazuha got into a screaming match in front of them. They later had to call a teacher after Kazuha tackled Heiji down and they both proceeded to fight on the floor.

"Gomen Shizuka. How many times does this make?"

"No worries, Sakura. It is quite amusing, don't you think?"

Sakura laughed.

Both Hattori Shizuka and Toyama Sakura were called by the kindergarten to pick their kids after the chaos they caused.

When they arrived, both Heiji and Kazuha sat on the opposite side of the bench, trying to put as much distance as they could between them.

Both mothers tried their best to hold in their laughter and act stern while scolding their children.

"Now, shake hands and apologise to each other"

Reluctantly, both kids came closer and muttered a weak apology while shaking hands. However, they noticed their mothers were still unsatisfied through the expectant look on their face.

"Sorry for hitting you Heiji"

"Sorry for calling you a crybaby Kazuha"

"Thanks for backing me up against those boys"

"Nah. It's no big deal"

Upon Shizuka's insistence, the four of them went to have lunch at the Hattori household, and Sakura treated them with snacks from their favourite Okomiyaki shop. By the end of the day, Heiji and Kazuha were back to playing together and causing mischief, the morning argument long forgotten.

The next day, Heiji surprised Kazuha by handing her a hair clip with a cute ribbon.

"Eh? Why?"

"Ya couldn't wear a ribbon like usual right? I found this yesterday, so might as well give it to ya"

"Arigatou Heiji!"

That evening Kazuha excitedly showed her mom the new hair clip she got from Heiji. Sakura listened with a smile while remembering the phonecall she had with Shizuka a few hours ago. Yesterday, Heiji asked his mother where to go to buy a hair clip for Kazuha. Excitedly, he went to the shop immediately after the Toyamas went home.

"Mom?"

"Nothing, Kazuha-chan. Make sure to take good care of the hair clip"

"Okay!"

Three ships I like

I am such a shipper that I have a favorite ship every piece of media I consume. The ones that currently possess me are: Pokeshipping- I will love this ship till the day I die. You will find specks of this ship in my Ashes. You will find traces of it in my soul. Anyways, the second is Romione. Although I used to be wayyy more obsessed with it than I am now, it is one of the evergreen ships for me. (Both having 'friends to lovers' trope with bickering can NOT be a coincidence.) Now these two are my all-time favorite, and the third spot is ever changing. Out of hundreds of ships that I like, this third spot is taken by a different ship at different times. A while ago it was Lumity (Luz and Amity from the Owl house), then it was Kataang (Aang and Katara from ATLA- wait, I think they might be fighting with Romione for second place right now), Zukka (Zuko and Sokka from Atla), Wilhem (Wille and Simon from Young Royals), and the list goes on and on and on and-

2. First ship ever

I believe Pokeshipping was the first ship that I was obsessed with, like daydreaming about them kind obsessed, but I have a foggy memory of liking the kids from the cartoon Ninja Hattori together (Hattori and that pink dress Ninja), I also remember being angry that Shizuka (from Doraemon) ended up with Nobita instead of Dekisugi.

4. Favorite Childhood book

I used to read all the time. My favorites were the Hindi story books that had a collection of stories, the top ones being 'Singhasan Battisi', 'Vikram and Betal', 'Akbar-Birbal', 'Tenali Rama', 'Panchtantra' and very weirdly, 'Chanakya Neeti', which was a book for adults about politics and stuff lol.

5. Currently Reading

It's my book club's pick, Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man, but it has given me such a reader's block that I'm going back to my roots- fanfiction. (@seecarrun your ffn pulls me out of the slump in a second)

6. Currently Watching

Sadly, I don't watch one show at a time. So, I'm watching B99, Derry girls, Superstore all at the same time.

I ate a lot of rice a few hours ago, right not I'm chugging glasses of water as I'm severely dehydrated.
