I wish Halt was bitter and angry about his stolen birthright. It feels all a bit too convenient that, actually, he never cared about becoming king/ wasn’t something he wanted anyway.

Young Halt heartbroken and furious he had to leave his home and now having to find a place for himself in the world knowing it will never be the life he wanted. Years pass and he goes from resenting Ferris to resenting himself for not fighting for his crown, for letting his people down. Of course he’s still content with his life as a ranger, but sometimes it only makes his want for a crown grow stronger. He sees so much injustice around him and even tough he is in a position to punish or eradicate some of it, he will never be powerful enough to get to the root of it. He can’t make new laws or erase old ones. But he could have, if only he stayed, if only he just fought back.

I am just going to let myself be delusional for one second here and say that perhaps you can see some of this back in the actual book canon. He doesn’t really care about disrespecting or antagonising nobles or others of high rank…Perhaps because he knows that in another life he would out rank all of them. Yes, yes, rangers are second only to the king but they aren’t always viewed that way.

Being raised with the idea that one day you will be the most powerful person in your country, that this what you were born for, your sole purpose. And then its all ripped away from you, and you let it slip through your fingers because you didn’t have the heart to become the monter that was hunting you.

And imagine how much of this anger could be amplified to the max when he was in Hybernia? It could’ve been a nice moment between Will and Halt in which Halt expresses some of his own guilt and shame and anger with all the suffering he (indirectly) caused. But no, Halt doesn’t want the crown and is fine actually.

Adventurers Guild Time!

Simon and Betty where scholars at the Akademiya where they met and fell in love <3

Fascinated by the potential power that could be harnessed from the remains of powerful beings (kinda like what he talked about when reading about Golb in the show), Simon and Betty invent Delusions.

Around the same time, they get engaged and Betty takes a trip to visit her family to tell them the news, the calamity happens when she's away.

Unaware of the consequences, Simon begins using a Cryo Delusion to try and fight the monsters, beginning his decent into madness.

He continues to use it after realizing the consequences, believing it to be the only way to survive and protect the little girl he found, Marceline.

Simon, a pure-blood Khanri'ahn, receives the curse of immortality, and Marceline recieves the curse of the wilderness (The curse of the wilderness in the au turns people into things from the show like vampires, oozers, hyoomans, etc).

By the time Betty returns and finds Simon he's completely mad.

Betty dives into trying to cure and protect Simon (she's kinda like Signora and Dottore jazzed together in this au).

She does Anything and Everything to try and save Simon, driving herself insane with forbidden knowledge, doing all sorts of experiments, and eventually turning her body into living flame a la liquid fire Signora style.

Ice King gives her his Cryo Delusion to help her control the flames.

Betty joins the Fatui as a Harbinger upon being promised resources for her work and brings Ice King along with her.

Simon's Vision went dull when he went completely mad, so Betty makes him a new Cryo Delusion to give him some power.

Ice King is as well-known among the Fatui as a Harbinger is but only because of his relationship with Betty. She's the only reason he's there and the only thing he's loyal too. He'll abandon or sabotage his own missions in order to prevent casualties or just genuinely screws up, forgets, or doesn't care. He'd probably be kicked out or killed by the other Fatui centuries ago if it weren't for Betty. To the Fatui's enemies, he's more of a nuisance than a threat.

Betty is Stronk and doesn't fuck around so nobody dares to oppose her about her crackhead fiance and his weird penguin (except probably the other harbingers).

She does her best to take care of Ice King but also can't stand that he isn't her Simon. She often sends him on lots of nonsense missions to keep him away when she doesn't need him around for experiments or to have as a lackey.

Betty's both chaotic and enigmatic. She's hard to read or outwit and seems to care for very little. Even though she's a Harbinger, she's only truly loyal to Simon and her personal goals.

Lich and the abyss??? Billy would have a role like the traveler's sibling, fighting until possessed by the Lich and thus "joining" the abyss.

Finn and Jake as the traveler and Paimon- Finn, a visionless human, wants to become a great hero like the legendary Billy and travels Teyvat to do heroic deeds and retrace the footsteps of his idol. Jake joins him because he's a good bro.

Unlike the game's traveler who can connect to all the elements, Finn is a strong hero bc of his heart :)

Hi! I just wanted to expressed my love for the “Curiousities” fics! I might get it slightly wrong here, but I believe Aegon isn’t inherently a bad person, he seems to me as a rather broken character, I mean we saw it just before (Y/n) and Aegon had sex, where (Y/n) showed him some genuine care and love. I think Aegon feels devoid of any actual purpose, he is a young king limited by the council, and on top of all of that, his brothers hate him, his mother doesn’t really know how to approach him (maybe because of the consequences of being a child-bride, she didn’t develop the emotional capability to be an actual mother), also, the only person he loved, his son, died.

I think the way Aegon clings to (Y/n) is positively enticing, for god sake Aegon actually said “Please” (fucking Aegon, he doesn’t ask for anything, EVER). The way he is *slightly* obsessed with (Y/n) is so fucking delicious to read! He craves that sort of intimacy, where, he doesn’t feel judged and (Y/n) listens to him, not because he is the King, but because he actually cares about Aegon. I mean, to cause such an impact on someone, that they actually chase you, like they need you more then air itself is so SO wonderful to read about (I think we saw that, when Aegon wanted (Y/n) to move to the Red Keep, to me that said, “I need you so much you have to be with me at all times).

A little part of me, perhaps a little more perverted, believes that (Y/n), if he was a little mean spirited, could get ANYTHING, he wants from Aegon (Aegon said it himself, when he referenced the riches and all of that, even the maids tending to (Y/n) pointed it out). I have a feeling Aegon will literally kiss the ground (Y/n) walks on…

Finally, I would like to mention the meeting between Alicent and (Y/n), it seemed to me that they understood each others on a deeper level, I can’t wait to read more about their relationship, they seem like they would make really good friends (also that would be a really badass duo). Perhaps (Y/n) could help her mend the relationship with Aegon and, perhaps this is wishful thinking, I kinda want Aegon to become a better king, because of the love he has for (Y/n).

I am so sorry that this is so long, but I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy these fics so much! I CANT WAIT for the next “Curiousities” fics!

On the topic of Aegon, he is definitely a very complex multilayered character and Tom plays him and understands him very well. Aegon isn't a good person but he's not a complete full villain with no good traits and I think die hard Team Black fans tend to ignore what led him to become who he is in favor of bashing the character simply for being the rival of their favs.

He's definitely broken and I think if Alicent had given him more genuine love during his childhood he would've been better. I will never blame Alicent for not being able to properly bond with her children fully when she was not only a child-bride but a victim of SA. She has shown that she does love Aegon but I think their relationship is so complicated because he truly was the first thing that permanently tied her to Viserys. Aegon is very much a product of his environment and the product of not having a support system.

I tried to do his character justice from everything I've seen in the show (and sorta in the book). We know Aegon is sensitive, he drinks and often makes a mess of things, he has an extremely complicated relationship with his mother and a nonexistent one with his father, he's capable of being kind (to the smallfolk and his kids), and even though he might antagonize them or not try to full understand them he also cares for his kids.

Plus!! He didn't want to be king!! He tried to run and begged Aemond to let him go! And now that he's king the very people who forced the crown on his head don't bother trying anymore and dismiss him. Aegon is quite literally all alone. Rhaenyra does have her troubles with her council but her family largely backs her up, Aegon's family primarily roll their eyes or do their own thing.

(Y/N) is literally the only person he can rely on for an emotional connection and for the gentle physical touch he's been craving from everyone around him.

I want to study this man and his amazing sad puppy eyes 😭

personally, i think any rhaelya wedding was more likely at her initiative, not his. being a wife instead of a mistress is the only sure way to escape an unwanted marriage, whether with robert or anyone else her father tried to give her to, possibly someone even worse. a lady known to be "soiled" can still be married off (eg, lysa tully, delena florent & ami frey), but there's less precendant for bigamy involving two husbands, forcing the wife to take a 2nd man. the practice of targ polygamy with 1 man and multiple wives may have died out but that's still a real precendent. (idt elia wouldve welcomed sharing her husband just bc she was dornish, and i hate that fandom assumption, but also idt it's unforgivable for lyanna to think something like that or want to believe the arrangement could work. she was a 15/16yo feeling desperate and her great judgment of character was only proven with people she'd actually met. who knows what, if anything, rhaegar told her about elia.)

the idea that the kg were only doing what they had to save baby king from kinslaying is frustrating not just bc they were escalating the conflict with every word looking for a fight while ned clearly was not, not just bc they couldve and shouldve known the risk of kinslaying by just talking to lyanna, but also bc yeah they shoulve just fled with infant and wet nurse if that were the case. why even risk ned killing them all and getting his hands on rhaegar's last child, as did happen, despite these legendary knights killing most of his men? if the baby's welfare was their top concern, either make him a king in exile, or try to assess ned's actual intentions toward his nephew. staying glued to the toj really is just asking for an ~honorable~ death above all. even if arthur had killed ned and howland, he couldn't stay there at his post forever just bc "kg do not flee" (false, somebody hadn't studied his white book covering the dance). sooner or later robert would find out and come with more than 6 other men, and then lyanna's baby really would be in danger. so, c'mon, like, what's the endgame for a living baby targ king there? ik i'm not buying they couldn't move yet while lyanna was still alive/dying, confined to her bed, not just bc their own words show no concern for her but bc they'd already proven with rhaella that duty to a king overrides duty to any of his female relations. if they really cared about saving rhaegar/lyanna's son rather than just dying for rhaegar, then they should have tried to actually live for that royal baby, not just kill in his name during a glorious last stand.
