The rules of the Killing School Life are listed below.

Students may reside only within the school. Leaving campus is an unacceptable use of time.

“Nighttime” is from 10 pm to 7 am. Some areas are off-limits at night, so please exercise caution.

Sleeping anywhere other than the dormitory will be seen as sleeping in class and punished accordingly.

With minimal restrictions, you are free to explore Hope's Peak Academy at your discretion.

Violence against headmaster Monokuma is strictly prohibited, as is destruction of surveillance cameras.

Anyone who kills a fellow student and becomes “blackened” will graduate, unless they are discovered.

Once a murder takes place, a class trial will begin shortly thereafter. Participation is mandatory for all surviving students.

If the guilty party is exposed during the class trial, they alone will be executed.

If the guilty party is not exposed, they alone will graduate, and all remaining students will be executed.

Lending your e-Handbook to another student is strictly prohibited.

--“I won’t shake hands with you, but at least we know who we are now.”

Known for being a prodigious and, even at her young age, sought after artist, Rin is a mysterious girl, and often hard to read. She often speaks in riddles and loses herself in abstract thought about abstract things. Despite being creative, she has a hard time understanding her own thoughts and feelings, let alone those of others, and therefore has a hard time expressing herself. This leaves her prone to bouts of silence, depression, and even self-imposed isolation. Sometimes, she speaks in short and uncomplicated sentences, totally deadpan, that often seem to veer from the subject at hand. Other times, she babbles on, trying so hard to make herself heard, that she never truly gets around to what she’s trying to say. This causes those around her to misconstrue, and misunderstand. 

Due to a birth defect and subsequent surgery, Rin has no arms, but rather tiny stumps that end just above where her elbows would otherwise be. She is dexterous and flexible, however, utilising her mouth and feet for painting, eating, and everything else; she even aspires to learn to cook. Most of her free time is spent in the Art Club at her school, Yamaku Academy: a large, well-funded high school for students with varying disabilities. She has a few acquaintances, a best friend with whom she shares very little but mutual support, and parents who, while they encourage her artistic endeavors, she doesn’t appear to be very close to. 

 Rin has a dry sense of humour which she is unafraid of flaunting, and isn’t above making light of her own situation. She’s not sensitive about her disability, and doesn’t expect others to be. If she observes it, she will attempt to communicate it in her own way. Sometimes she seems to change topics mid-conversation; sometimes she says things that may not be altogether appropriate. Deep down, she’s very well-meaning, and wants nothing more than to make herself understood.

About Rikuto:

Tsukuda Rikuto spent his adolescence bouncing from boarding school to boarding school on his parents’ dime, looking for a place that would tolerate his abominable marks, everywhere from Sapporo to Yokohama to Nagoya. And anyone who lived in or even drove through one of the cities where Rikuto stayed, they probably had the privilege of stumbling upon one of his masterpieces.

Whether it be in the subway tunnels, on the sides of abandoned buildings, or on highway overpasses, Rikuto would approach his canvas with no less reverence and ceremony than a Renaissance artist decorating a chapel, and it showed in the elaborate, extravagant displays that would crop up seemingly overnight throughout the city. He went through cans of spray paint the way other teenage boys went through food, and barely a block managed to escape his artistic vision.

And that artistic vision is Rikuto’s driving force. Every image he paints contains symbolism and messages in every stroke, illustrating his grandiose world views. Anyone who dares to dismiss his work as simply an act of vandalism, he pities, sure that they simply don’t have the capacity to appreciate true art.

Even at a fairly young age, and thus with fairly little life experience, Rikuto has always been certain that he had everything figured out. If anyone were to ask him his theories on, say, the meaning of life, or how morality is arbitrary, or why the chicken crossed the road, they’d be in for an endless and enthusiastic discussion of anything Rikuto’s mind would land on. He was intelligent, in an abstract way, although this was never reflected in his schoolwork, since he placed little value on mathematics or language skills. His education, he felt, lay in taking in the world, and sharing what he learned through his art. Fortunately for him, his graffiti garnered enough attention to pique the interest of Hope’s Peak Academy, and they extended an invitation to the unconventional authors to join the ranks of great young minds.
