The San Francisco Silent Film Festival starts tonight at the Castro Theatre and runs through July 16. We are proud to be co-presenting, with the Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive, Martin Frič's The Organist at St. Vitus Cathedral (Varhaník U Svateho Víta), on Saturday, July 15, 3:00 PM. FNF prez Eddie Muller will introduce the screening. In this 1929 Czechoslovakian film, an aging organist witnesses the suicide of an unknown man. Before his death, the dying man handed him an envelope with money for his daughter, who lives in a convent. He hides the man's body. Unfortunately for him, an unscrupulous neighbor witnesses his actions and blackmails him, threatening to report him for murder. DCP from film material preserved by Národní Filmový Archive, Prague. Dutch composer and pianist Maud Nelissen will provide accompaniment. She has earned international acclaim performing live and recording both solo and with her ensemble, The Sprockets.
Tickets available here.

THE MAN WHO COULD NOT REMAIN SILENT
February 27, 1993, Strpci, Bosnia and Herzegovina. A passenger train from Belgrade to Bar is stopped by paramilitary forces in an ethnic cleansing operation. San Francisco Silent Film Festival 2024: exposure to the shadows of the past
I was looking for Yoda when I bumped into Eadweard Muybridge. These are the circles film history moves in. This year’s San Francisco Silent Film Festival, the 27th, took place in the grandeur of the theatre of the Palace of Fine Arts, an elegant neo-classical folly of gigantic proportions, built as a temporary attraction for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition and then rebuilt in more permanent…

I love Florence not giving that movie and experience one moment of her time anymore but I do hope a few years in the future she feels comfortable to spill some teaaaaa
Anon, can you imagine? 💀
I’m soooo curious (read: nosy) too. But yknow I think this is actually the best approach for her. She’s come out of this whole mess looking classy, cool and professional (which I’m sure only serves to infuriate some people that can continue to remain irrelevant). As much as I’d love for Florence to publicly spill somewhere down the line, I don’t think that would do her any good even if it were to be years from now. If anything, it would just give those same people more headlines/attention/exposure. Which I’m sure is exactly what they’re craving but Florence has been very smart not to engage. For me, her silence really speaks volumes.
