True Lies, Blockbuster, Velma Big Silver Garbage 2023 Winners

Blockbuster, True Lies, and Velma were the big winners at the 2023 Silver Garbage Awards, winning for Worst Comedy Series, Worst Drama Series, and Worst New Series, respectively.

Blockbuster, a Netflix flop, centered around one of the last Blockbuster stores, won the most awards with five wins, Worst Comedy Series, Supporting Actor (J.B. Smoove), Guest Performer (Bobby Moynihan), Writing and Directing.

True Lies, the CBS flop, which was a reboot of the 1994 James Cameron film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis won four awards - Worst Drama Series, Worst Actor (Steve Howey), Worst Supporting Actor (Omar Benson Miller), and Worst Guest Performer (Tom Arnold).

Velma, the HBO animated spin-off of Scooby Doo, won for Worst New Series, as well for Worst Actress in a Comedy Series for Mindy Kaling.

The recently ended Magnum P.I. reboot and the Fox Country Soap Monarch were tied for 11 nominations each, the most for any program. Monarch was completely shut out, while Magnum P.I. only won for Worst Couple in a Television Program for their controversial Magnum/Higgins pairing.

Margaret was small, half Mexican and half Korean, with a colorful history and education. But, she was the producer and a perfectionist. He attended a few award shows she produced and they referred to her as “The Tiger”.

-I really like Two Ghosts. I’m not kissing your ass, but I really enjoy the song. My wife made me listen to it and you surprised me. My favorite lyric has to be “Trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat”. It makes you feel stuff. –

Now he was grinning. Fidgeting his guitar, he recalled seeing the woman the song is about. She wore a black, fitting gown, her hair was up and she wore a pair of dangling sapphire earrings tonight and her lips were ruby red. She looked like a million bucks.

Oh, how did he miss her? Her skin, her smile, her eyes, and the way she’d look just at him and him alone, and her hair when she has a day off and just everything. He was 18, just learning how to love. She was 22, recovering from a shattered heart. He peeked through the curtain or screen or whatever that thing was and saw the woman in question sitting between her two friends, reportedly after a break up from some English stage actor. She was as beautiful as a dream. Even after all this time, he could still feel his heart trying to hit his ribcage. Perhaps he was nervous and anxious to nail his performance, perhaps the feeling of performing a song to his old flame who was sitting in the first row. Of course, he could have performed any other song, but something told him to pick this one. And then he saw the seating chart and his little heart couldn’t handle it.

Dressed to impress, he was wearing a dapper navy blue suit and a white shirt, the first three buttons unbuttoned. He put on his silver sparkles. The guitar in question was a birthday gift from her and there was a crimson rose painted on and a dark red lipstick stain. Did he go overboard? Nah.

He saw Trevor Noah going outside to announce the performance and drew a deep breath. Time to take the stage.

Taylor was leaning on Selena and realizing what time it is. The time for her heart to feel whatever she felt for years for someone who healed her heart and then took it with and he still to this day keeps it in his pocket. She adjusted the edges of the dark gown she was wearing. It was long and backless, with two halter straps holding it in place. Her nails were dark blue to match her earring. She actually put on nude lipstick before she left but she was biting her lips so much that it came off on her way to the show so she borrowed Karlie’s red. Taylor heard the song a few times and every time in drew tears to her eyes. Every single time. Selena squeezed her hand and smiled and Karlie narrowed her eyes at the stage.

Trevor Noah came out looking dashy as always in a black trousers, a dark green blazer and a black bowtie.

The South African comedian smiled at the crowd and they applauded him.

-Good evening people! My, my, don’t you all look dazzling tonight! Anyway, when I was a little kid l was terrified of ghosts and was convinced there were ghosts behind my house so in the late evening I refused to get out to take the garbage. My mama felt sympathetic for me and at first she understood me and even told me ghost stories. But then she got bored and one night she shouted: “Child, if you don’t take out the trash I will take you out!” and so I had to do my chores.”

The crowd laughed.

-And I’m still afraid of ghosts! They’re like these creepy white sheet wearing creatures and they scare the hell out of me! Oh wait…-

He paused and the crowd laughed again.

-And you’ve got no idea how many haunted places are there in Africa! I mean really, why the hell do we need them? Although, there’s this adorable African legend about the ghosts of people who were meant to be always finding each other. I’m just kidding, we sell those stories to white people and dumb tourists.-

And the crowd laughed.

 -Anyway, my boy here is also apparently obsessed with ghosts or is starting a paranormal investigation, but before that, he’s here to perform and make you all cry. Harry Styles with Two Ghosts!-

And he disappeared.

Harry was front and center of the stage, white and blue lights adorning the stage. The slow instrumental of the guitar was followed by his voice.

He put down his guitar and the applause felt like a trance. Slowly, he stepped down the stairs and jumped up to Taylor. She got up and hugged him back, embracing him with her whole being. He felt the scent of her lovely hair and the feeling of her soft skin. He could hear their heartbeats were in sync and finally, he gave her a deep kiss. And she kissed him back. He did not care about the crown or anything.

Harry snapped out of his trance and it was time to leave the stage, after the congratulations, he sat down on an armchair and inhaled deeply. He was just human. And then he spotted his doom. A lovely bare back whose shoulders were shaking.

-Taylah? –

-Oh, hi, Harry? How are you?-

She turned around, wiping away a tear.

-I’m fine. You?-

What he wanted to say: “Stop crying, I love you.”

-I’m just a bit emotional today. Your performance was amazing.-

What she wanted to say was: “You still have me.”

-Thank you. You’re still crying?-

He wanted to hold her so badly. Instead, he squeezed her hand.

-That time of the month, eh?-

She rolled her eyes. She wanted to smack him and scream that he made her cry. Instead, she just squeezed his hand back. He always dwarfed her hand with his.

-No, no. I wish we could perform together sometimes.-

-That would kill the internet, so I’m saying yes.-

She laughed now. And now he felt as if he drank a cup of liquid sunshine.

-You look stunning tonight. Like a million bucks.-

-Thank you, you look very handsome in that suit.-

She fidgeted one his buttons, unaware of the intimacy of the act.  He stared at the dark blue tips playing with his buttons, which was quite ironic as he was the one who would press her buttons.

And then he kissed hand. He had to. And then he received another cup of liquid sunshine, but there were tears in her eyes.

Oh god, I want you now.

-We should grab some coffee sometimes. - She whispered.

-I’d love to. And we should talk more often.-

Now she reached out and hugged him and he nuzzled her cheek. He could get used to this again. He rubbed circles on the small of her back and then he started poking her waist, making her giggle.

-Stop that!-

-Look, you’re not teary-eyed anymore.-

-See you soon?-

-Of course, Madame. I’d love nothing more.-

Well it’s Oscars night and this was long overdue, I wanted to COMPLETELY catch up on films before I wrote this. There were a few I missed that had some acting nominees, but after watching all the best picture nominees after yesterday, it was time, so here it is movie buffs, counting down from 76;

And the Razzie for worst film of the year goes to...

Disney’s worst film in years. Overacted, over-produced, and a sheer disappointment from acclaimed director Ava DuVernay.

One of the worst film watching experiences I have ever endured in my life, I am scratching my head as to why this movie has ten nominations? Is it just a nod to Netflix for taking a chance and spending money on content? Is it because it is not a white dominated film? Or do critics just adore pure pretentious trash now? Unfortunately, it is the clear frontrunner for best picture and pretentiousness overcomes story, casting, character development, and acting theses days - I believe it will win. Frontrunner for Best Director as well.

Garbage, garbage, garbage. Just watch the film and you will know why it leading the Oscars in nominees with ten nominations. This film was pure homosexual propaganda, and even though the set, cinematography, and costume design were all breathtaking; Mary, Queen of Scots was the Victorian British Monarch film that should have stolen the show.

The most overrated film of 2018, I liked it, but didn’t love it. Malek is the clear frontrunner for best actor after winning the SAG and the Golden Globe. He does give a great performance, but this film will be forgotten as both musical biopics Ray and Walk the Line have in recent history. However, it did make me want to go buy Queen vinyl records

12. Mary, Queen of Scots

Up for three Oscars, Margot Robbie was unfortunately snubbed for the performance of her career. Being only 29 years, she has many performances to give us. I wish this was the British monarch film up for 10 nominees tonight. Unfortunately, the garbage British monarch film and clear academy “favorite” got the nod for 10.

11. Blackkklansman

The milestone of Spike Lee’s career, Blackkklansman is an unbelievable true story of a black police officer going under cover in the KKK. I know, sounds crazy, but it is very true. You have to see this movie, it is unbelievably hilarious and a story that is told beautifully through the art of film. Another best picture nominee for tonight, this is a movie that may shock us with the win.

10. Crazy Rich Asians

Another snub; such an incredible film with great characters and even better story. It was good to see masculine asian men leading the charge in this film which never happens on any screen other than Kung Fu films.

9. Mission: Impossible: Fallout

The best Mission: Impossible film to date, tons of fun, some of the best stunts I have ever seen in my life; cannot wait for 7 and 8 that were just recently announced being filmed back to back. 

8. Ralph Breaks the Internet

Wayyyy better than the sequel and surprising better Disney movie than the anticipated Pixar follow-up, Incredibles 2.

7. Widows

Steve McQueen and Gillian Flynn are genius writers. This movie tugs you and pulls you all over the place. Ultimately, it is a slightly disappointing follow-up to the acclaimed and award winning 12 Years a Slave with no jaw-dropping acting performances. But pure fun from an action and story perspective.

6. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Won the Golden Globe for Best Animated film and the frontrunner for the Oscar as well. I think it is the best Spider-Man film ever made and was hands down the best animated film of last year. And come on, who doesn’t love Sunflower by Posty and Swae??

5. Avengers: Infinity War

Epic. Not much more to say than that.

4. Black Panther

The biggest breakthrough film of 2018 smashing box office and award records. The first comic book film in history to be nominated for best picture for the Oscars, up for eight awards. I think it goes down as tied with the first Iron Man for the best Marvel Cinematic Universe film ever. I can watch this movie over and over again and not get tired of it.

3. A Quiet Place

The most underrated and snubbed film of the year. No nominations and should have been a clear top choice for best picture. The sequel was just announced for 2020 and Krasinski will return to direct.

2. A Star Is Born

What a film. Eight Oscar Nominees, already winning a Golden Globe and two Grammys for its soundtrack and clear frontrunner for the Oscar for best original song, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s performances will shake you to the core. I already bought this film on 4K and I am excited to watch it over and over again.

1. Green Book

Green Book is the Golden Globe Winner of Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor. It is up for five Oscars and is the frontrunner for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor. Hands down, the best and my favorite film of 2018. Mahershala Ali is the biggest force of nature on both the black and silver screen in ruling television with his roles in Netflix’ Luke Cage and House of Cards, now HBO’s True Detective, and already winning an Oscar for Moonlighting and both the SAG and Golden Globe for Green Book. 

Viggo Mortensen also brings the performance of his career in this film. The true story of an incredible friendship breaking through race in the in early 1960s between two men who could not be more opposite. Fingers crossed that it sweeps the Oscars!

Their Age:  23 years old. Location:  Avalon Hills, Pearl District. Artificial or Natural: Natural. Idol Class:  Epsilon. Branch Name/Profession:  Fashion and modelling branch - Cosplay professional/Editorial model/Gravure idol/RTW fashion designer; Personal entertainment branch - Cosplay professional/Beauty Vlogger/Utaite. Pupil Shape: Oval, very much reminiscent of an ovoid Koban.

What technique do they respond to?:  He seems to better respond to positive reinforcement, as negative is usually only met with the idol’s agreement.  However he is at least open to constructive criticism, and often seeks to improve what has been touched upon.

Personality: 

— (The) Chessmaster - Komaeda is able to construct elaborate plans and execute them well.  He is able to tug at the strings of his influence, patiently moving his pieces into seemingly inconsequential until the initial intent is finally revealed.  He also seems to have layers upon layers of misdirection and contingency plans in order to properly deal with unexpected circumstances.  This trait of his has come in handy more often than not in appealing to the audiences, as it enables him to manage his schedule in a more efficient manner.

— Cosmic Plaything - While most people would rather believe that their decisions have some influence in their lives, Nagito’s own seems to be governed by events and rules that defy coincidence and logical explanation.  While he understands the basic gist of it, the reason for such situation continues to elude him.  This is not something the idol just suspects; he knows.  And this unpredictable cycle of fortune and misfortune seems to cause nothing but trouble for himself and those around him.

— Did you think I can’t feel? - Komaeda may be a bit of a pushover, but he is an all around nice guy.  He’ll tolerate heaps of embarrassing, painful or emotionally hurtful situations with a smile.  He also likely won’t complain, even offering advice and helping however he can… Until somebody crosses the line by both failing to consider he has feelings and that they are being badly hurt.  Needless to say the luckster will be quick to express annoyance and impatience towards those who have lost his respect.

— (The) Fatalist - Speaking with him outside of the idol setting can underscore his binary-world view and (crippling) inferiority complex.  He believes everything that happens is destined to occur and there is no way to prevent it.  It definitely is reflected in his view that those who are artificial idols can never be as good as natural born ones no matter how hard they may try.  In spite of this, Nagito doesn’t consider himself worthy of being referred to as an idol either.

— Stepford Smiler - He is bright, upbeat and all around pleasant to be with.  And it’s a lie, of course.  Komaeda is both encouraged and determined to project an image of wholesome happiness in order to be accepted by peers and the public alike.  Tragically enough, this self-imposed front is perhaps one of his biggest selling points; after all nobody’s interested in a miserable idol.  This perfectly crafted facade hides a real person that is metaphorically cracking like fine glass.

— (The) Unfettered - Nagito can commit himself to a goal completely, absolutely and unflinchingly.  In pursuit of said objective he seems to have no limits, inhibitions or fear.  However this particular devotion has been filed down by Adamas through consistent intervention and reeducation, at least in order to ensure that no delicate principles would be compromised and there are certain sacrifices he should be unwilling to make.  Regardless, there are exactly two things that he believes in absolutely: his own luck, and Hope.

Biography: 

Nagito Komaeda was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.  His parents had been donors for Adamas, desperate to conceive a child after having been unable to do so naturally.  They were kind people, with plenty of resources and certainly loved their child very much.  Komaeda’s family soon became aware, however, of the toddler’s extraordinary type of luck.  His life has always been shaped by moments of extreme fortune or misfortune, the earliest occurrence of this being the death of his pet dog after being hit by a truck.  This was, of course, not taking into account the harassment they suffered on behalf of Adamas executives after the luckster’s parents legally earned custody of their child in court.

Nagito’s donors became another addition to a long list of victims who suffered from the young idol when he was only an elementary school student.  A plane hijacking gone awry due to the unexpected appearance of a small meteor ended the lives of both them and the hijacker, while he witnessed the entire ordeal.  Their death left him to inherit his parents’ fortune and become free to do whatever he wished, as he had no other living relatives.  This was followed by his custody falling back into the hands of Adamas, and the five-year-old idol was assigned to caretaker after caretaker.  It was finally instructed not to attach themselves to the child as a safety precaution in order to avoid being subjected to his luck.

During middle school, there was another noteworthy incident where the idol was kidnapped by a serial murderer.  He was found by Adamas operatives tucked inside a garbage bag, after Komaeda had told the man he had no family which was technically not a lie.  Within the bag alongside the retrieved luckster was also a winning lottery ticket for three million, which was of course claimed by executives.  These would be the first of many, many tragic things that happened to him due to his luck. His cycle of good and bad luck made sure that any chance he might have at actual happiness would be cancelled.  This caused him to idolise other idols as positive symbols for a decaying era, who would be capable of creating hope which could overcome any despair.

He’d always displayed an affinity for design, confection, make up and specially dressing up regardless of the item being geared towards specific genders.  Nagito’s interest simply didn’t seem to remain in singing for long, so a different approach was taken.  Cosplay and fashion, which were fields hardly touched upon, became the idol’s focus.  By the time of his debut, he was already blowing away others with his undisputed skills.  The quality of his work, performance and fidelity to every character he embodied rapidly earned him a steady stream of followers.  His proneness to accidents was also marketed by Adamas, causing him to become rather well known in the niche market of kegadoru.  However another stroke of misfortune was being diagnosed with lymphoma and frontotemporal dementia, and given a life expectancy of 6 months to a year.  However his luck seems to have allowed him to outlive this diagnosis to date.

He has fully focused in his cosplay and modelling career, aside of the release of an exclusive RTW fashion line.  Most of the brand’s profits are donated to charitable organisations, particularly those which are aimed towards the research and treatment of dementia and cancer.
