Spring has sprung! #panicfreepricingchallenge | I've been nominated (thx @aviscribbles!) to share the real price I charged for a real project, so I thought I'd share these wood signs I made a couple years ago. I have a love/hate relationship with wood signs.. they are beaaautiful, but lots of work. - For these, I provided the wood, prepped the surface (many rounds of sanding and staining), and of course did the design and calligraphy. Wood is a difficult surface because there is little room for error, I had to stain multiple coats to get this dark colour (+ time to dry in between), and multiple coats to get a vibrant white, too. - In the end, I charged $96 each, and now these families have a lovely keepsake in their homes. - I love that this challenge (hosted by @thehappyevercrafter and @indetailcreative) is highlighting the incredible value of artwork. Artists, charge your worth! By being transparent about our pricing, we are making sure we don't undercut the industry and that we support the incredible amount of work and talent that goes into each piece. Happy Friday!! Man, this short week has felt long. But productive, too. We finally built our bedframe (mattress is no longer on the floor! What is the best advice you've ever received? In university, I had no idea what I wanted to study. I thought I wanted to be a pharmacist, but I was nearly failing all my first year science classes. I was always good at science in high school, and this really threw me for a loop. I was used to doing well, and life was very much of a straight path forward, for me. But my high school English teacher reassured me, "life is a marathon, not a sprint". And though this may be one very cheesy and overused line, it has defined so much of my life since that day. Keep pressing forward, yearning for the finish line. With patience and perseverance. Pace yourself, and you'll make it. Sidenote: I feel like I've received more unsolicited advice in my life about engagement, wedding planning, married life, having kids, etc. than I've ever had at any other stage of life. Details from our guestbook table: extra programs, engagement photos, guestbook sign, guestbook, and my bridal bouquet. Everything is currently being displayed in our new home together. We're planning on printing out one of our wedding photos at an 8x10 size and attaching it to the wood sign (it'll perfectly cover the words!). I did a lot of pre-planning to make sure nothing went to waste haha.
