5 years since StarKid Homecoming!

5 years ago yesterday (I went to the Thursday show) I was in L.A. having the most magical evening! The Ace Hotel was lovely, the cast was electric, the music made me cry and laugh and sing along...here's to 15 years of StarKid!

Also, it's either in this video or the BTS for SK10 backers that you can see me in the background. Liam White was interviewing people in line, and I was behind some of the people he interviewed. My only claim to fame!

I’ve always been a fan of Corey Dorris, he’s an amazing actor and Singer. That being said I went into Starkid Innit completely blind for what to expect with him. The only SK concerts I’ve seen recordings of that Corey is in are AVSR and Homecoming which are very different from what they’ve done on the tours and at conventions (which all of the other cast members have performed at). Needless to say he was absolutely incredible, his voice is beautiful and he was so game for all of the silly quirks that come with a Starkid concert. Seeing him in the cast for my first ever live Starkid show has only increased my love and appreciation for him and I can’t wait to see him in more projects. He honestly stole the show and I think most fans would agree

Fun school drama~

Alright sk a few days ago in math this happened

... Right comtext.... and making stage names fir people... Alright theres C, M and B. These boys have harassed me and bullied me before, they havent matured much, but they dint harass me anymore, which is an imporvement I guess, they just constantly talk to me (say Hi, blah boah blah)

So B was across from me, standing, and C and M were at the table behind me.

This is how the convo went (tho not exact cause my memory fucking sucks)

C: "B has something to ask you"

B: "No, I was just comming over to warn you that they were going to ask you something"

*I think there was bantering on who was asking between the three*

C: "oh, Would you go to homecomming with M"

Me: "no" *With laughter cause I was confused (I was in the middle of a conversation with one of my friends too)

C: "What if he makes you a sign?"

*they all go on about signs*

M: "Yeah, I'll make you a sign"

me: "Go ahead, I'll still say no"

I'm about 93% sure they were joking, but now I'm second guessing myself, what do yall think?

15 Years of StarKid

I'm 29 years old...nearly half of my life has been spent with this group of insane creatives. I always like to tell the story of me finding AVPM in late 2009, just a few months after they went viral. Browsing MuggleNet articles was a favorite pastime; while HP is not on my radar much anymore, it was a huge part of my life, so seeing an article about an HP parody musical was right up my alley. I was quickly hooked, enough for me to subscribe and eagerly await AVPS when they put up the trailer. While HP is why I started watching StarKid, all these years I've stayed and been ready for their next project. I have fallen in love with their writing style--both of book and score--their humor, their low-budget but still fantastic designs, their dedication...just them as people. All of them: Nick and Matt and all their collaborators. While I wish I had been able to see them live more (only Firebringer and StarKid Homecoming), I am grateful to be apart of these projects from the groundup through the Kickstarters and for the opportunity to see the finished products any time on YouTube. They've made it their mission to create accessible musical theater and other creative projects, and I can tell how passionate all of them are.

Unlike a lot of people, StarKid hasn't helped me make friends or brought me closer to someone. I share excitement with my sister and occasionally my mom, but that's about it. I don't interact with a lot of fans online on a personal level, but I still appreciate the community--both new and old, so don't worry about me being a purist (I looove Hatchetfield too, of course!). Regardless, StarKid has been something special for me all throughout high school, college, grad school, and beyond into my adult years. I'll treasure the journey here and how I and many others have stuck around, and I look forward to all the new adventures into the Lands That Are, SK Labs, and who knows what else!

So. 15 years, huh? As Nick Lang says nearly every livestream, "You all have never looked better!"

very late (like 5 years late help) to be saying this but can we talk about mariah devouring status quo at sk homecoming. and what that Means To Me. status quo is such an autistic anthem to me. and she is autistic. so. i mean. poetry in motion actually.

one thing ive noticed about bts from their bangtan bombs, episodes, memory dvds etc is that they always bring new ideas to the table during rehearsals to make their stage performances better. and like they all do this as individuals too, be it seokjin (for his the astronaut stage with coldplay), jungkook (for his WC stage), hoseok (for hobipalooza), yoongi (for his that that stage with psy), joon (for his small intimate stage). truly the mark of a masterful showmanship, like they truly do take their artistry and showmanship seriously, like it’s not just a job to them.

also their work ethic is insane. beyoncé once said “nowadays people don’t even rehearse anymore because rehearsals make them feel like they’re amateurs and they don’t like that”, meanwhile people outside of SK who have worked with bts for their stadium shows/overseas performances always comment on how BTS are probably one of the veerrrry few artists who actually put in PERSONAL REQUESTS for rehearsals off schedule (meaning with very few staff around because it’s not on schedule).

like… it’s no wonder BTS are where they are right now, which is essentially the top of the food chain. the apex predator of the music industry.

and coming from beyonce, too -- i mean that's an excellent observation. i was re-watching her homecoming special the other day and just thinking about all the work that had to go into pulling that performance off the way she did.

and look -- when you look at some of the dionsysus stages they've done -- when you look at video of yoongi putting in hours learning how to swing a sword for daechwita or hobi putting in all that rehearsal time for lollapalooza, it's like -- this is not an accident. their stardom is not an accident.

this is the intersection of talent and work ethic and we love that for them 💕

Yes Annie did production shots for homecoming and black friday and vhscc live and there is a lot of richpez! It’s why I knew their wedding photos would be good (like they ever wouldn’t be)
