Thursday’s recap of the ETBU Hockey team’s TAME trip to Sweden is provided by Junior Tim Ruf and Senior Nikolas Roudkovski.

“This morning we started the day with breakfast, enjoying Swedish yogurt, ham, and Swedish pancakes. While eating, we watched videos about the Swedish culture, which helped us better understand where we are serving this week. The time spent together, indulging in local cuisine, help create a special bond among teammates as we built fellowship. We then took time to pray, talk to God, and reflect deeply on what we hope to gain from this trip. After worship, we walked around the city, immersing ourselves in Swedish culture and admiring the breathtaking landscape—meticulously crafted by God’s hand. As we explored, we prayed over various parts of the city, including a school, the government building, and a historic location where the Akren Church first started over 400 years ago.

We then returned to the church and shared Sweden’s traditional Christmas meal for lunch, which was incredible. The food here has exceeded all expectations and my personal favorite so far has been the Swedish meatballs, typically served with gravy and lingonberry sauce. After the meal, we spent time wrapping gifts for those in need and went door to door delivering these gifts to families, while sharing the word of God and inviting them to church. It was humbling and heartwarming to see the joy it brought to others.

Just when we thought the day was winding down, it was only beginning. We left the church for our hockey games, where the D3 team played a local team in Skillingaryds and the D2 played Jonkoping University at the 7000 seat arena in Jonkoping. The D3 team fell in a hard fought game, while the D2 team secured a shootout victory. After the game, both teams shared pizza with our opponents and we had the chance to talk about hockey, life, and culture. It was amazing to see how happy they were to spend time with us.

Some of their players even came onto our bus afterward to express how much our visit meant to them, saying we made their night. That moment was incredibly meaningful and reminded me of how God works through even the smallest connections, bringing people together through a shared love for hockey. Today, I learned that even the little things in life can have a profound impact on someone,” Ruf said.

“We began the day with a prayer walk, praying for the city of Värnamo’s churches, schools, and even their government. I believe God used this walk to center our eyes on Him before we went out to be His instruments later in the day. After an amazing Swedish Christmas lunch, we split into three outreach groups. My group set up a table with coffee and cookies in a busy spot of the city’s downtown and simply tried to build relationships with the people of the city and shine the light of Christ.

It was cold, and few were receptive to what we were offering, but I had a couple conversations that stood out. One was with Daniel, a Christian from the town, and he allowed me to pray over him and his life. Second was Alx. He loved music and even had a CD player in his backpack that he let us listen for a few minutes. In talking more with him, he told me that he went to kindergarten at Arken Church, but has not believed in God since the death of his grandfather. In that moment I felt God tell me to just ‘invite,’ so that’s what I did. He said he would probably come to church with us Sunday and I pray it will be fruitful and that God would plant seeds that will last a lifetime in my new friend Alx. At the end of the night we played the local hockey teams and got to fellowship with them after over some pizza. We’re all excited to see how God will use us next on this trip,” Roudkovski said.

European futureproofing for Eton systems and kinnarps

To meet rising demand for its fully automated and digitised fabric and part handling solutions, Eton Systems – a member of TMAS, the Swedish textile machinery association – has just moved into modernised new premises in Borås.

The company was founded in 1967 in Borås – widely known as Sweden’s textile city and home to worldwide brands and companies, as well as the prestigious Swedish School of Textiles – as a result of future-looking research and development at shirt maker Eton Shirts.

Eton Shirts, founded in 1928 and still also headquartered in Borås, was very early to realise the benefits of streamlining its production processes, minimising downtime and better utilising factory space. Its internal R&D led to the world’s first overhead unit production system (UPS).

Today, Eton Systems UPS technologies have a positive impact on the productivity of thousands of production lines for a range of industries. Designed to increase value-added time in production by eliminating manual transportation and minimising handling, the individually addressable product carriers are now fully managed and controlled by the company’s advanced software.

Roots and heritage

“We’re very happy that we have been able to realise our plans and site our new premises with advanced technologies here in Borås, staying true to our roots and heritage,” says Eton Systems CEO Jerker Krabbe. “Digitalisation and the push for more sustainable, shorter and less expensive supply chains are currently making manufacturing in high-cost countries within Europe more attractive and our technologies are very much a part of making reshoring a feasible option for our customers. It’s fantastic that we can still undertake projects like this in Sweden in order to grow for the future.”

10,000 pieces daily

Kinnarps, one of the largest providers of high quality workspace solutions in Europe, has retained all of its production in Sweden, and is thriving with the assistance of Eton Systems.

At the Kinnarps fabric upholstery plant for office chairs in Skillingaryd, customers are able to choose from over 250 different fabrics for their designs and collections, or to provide their own, in addition to selecting from a range of bases, springs and wheels.

With the installation of a full Eton UPS system, the lead-time from order to finished product from the Skillingaryd plant was cut from nine-to-ten days to just five days, due to a reduction in set-up times and other preparatory operations at individual work stations – a distinct competitive advantage.

On a daily basis, the Eton overhead system is loaded with more than 10,000 pieces, each with their own identification codes, enabling them to be fully tracked as they move sequentially through the phases of production. An automatic buffering system enables all products to be moved to each stage of the production process easily and just in time.

Kinnarps also appreciates Eton’s latest software, which provides an overview of every single unit produced and has led to a significant reduction in waste.

Full control

With annual sales of SEK 4.5 billion and a workforce of 1,700 people, Kinnarps is operational in over 40 countries and the concentration of its production in Sweden enables it to retain full control over its entire manufacturing chain, as well as ensuring decent working conditions for all of its employees.

“The advantage of this were particularly evident during the pandemic, when the transport chains caused major problems for companies with production in distant countries,” says Thomas Wilsson, manager at the Skillingaryd plant. “In addition, we don’t need to take a gamble on getting a big order and if our order intake increases, we can scale up our own manufacturing process relatively quickly. It also gives us great flexibility. If a product needs to be changed, we just do it and don’t need to wait until existing stock has sold out. If we want to make updates, improvements or efficiencies, we can react much faster.”

Life cycle

Sustainability is naturally high on the Kinnarps agenda but the company stresses that it is essential to create interior design solutions and furniture that are suitable for use over a long period of time.

“Sustainable interior design is as much about the present as the future,” says Kinnarps Global Range Director Jenny Hörberg. “When choosing interior design and furniture, it is important to take the entire life cycle into account. It’s also about choosing furniture with carefully selected materials that are designed and prepared for renewal, to maximise the life span and create conditions for sustainable circularity.”

“We help our customers make sustainable and circular choices from the beginning that provide the conditions for futureproof environments,” adds Global Sales Director Dan Molander. “Based on needs analysis, we create customer-unique, ergonomic and flexible solutions, designed for today’s individuals and activities, but which are also ready to meet future needs and challenges. Through furniture and concepts that can be updated, renewed and renovated, we enable adaptable interior design solutions that can be developed to meet changing needs and last for a long time.”

“Every year, more than ten million tons of furniture is thrown away in Europe and smart companies like Kinnarps are at the forefront of pushing the furniture industry to take responsibility for how it is designed, manufactured and transported to create the conditions for sustainable interior design,” says TMAS Secretary General Therese Premler-Andersson. “Working with our member Eton Systems, Kinnarps has created a blueprint for how things should be done at its operation in Skillingaryd. Like Kinnarps, Eton Systems, in opening its new Borås HQ, is also committed to expanding sustainable manufacturing here in Europe.”

As a priest, you must believe that your goal is to call to Christianity. As a priest, you live and earn from the faith, but you call to things that are not logical. He held Masses he couldn't really believe. He could never explain the trinity. He worked a lot against racism and Islamophobia and thus met a guy from Morocco with whom he discussed a lot about religion. He realized that in Christianity he only prayed in church while in Islam(Submission to the will of God) he had daily prayers. In time, he started worshiping with a Muslim from Morocco and converted to Islam. He did not tell anyone else for the fear of not being accepted. He even continued to work as a priest for some time after accepting Islam. However, he felt like a hypocrite and decided to sell everything he had in Sweden and move to Morocco. His colleagues did not know about his acceptance of Islam, but their decision to move was strange to them and some even wanted to declare him insane. After moving to Morocco, he called his former boss and colleagues and told them to accept Islam. They were in shock. One of them even went to Morocco and tried to persuade him to return to both Sweden and Christianity. He stuck to his decision that Islam was the truth. God is Only One and that Jesus is a prophet like other prophets God Almighty sent and Prophet Muhammad is the last and final One for all of humanity. Nothing could convince him to return to Christianity. Senior Dominic Desjardins provided the recap from Wednesday for the ETBU Hockey TAME trip to Sweden.

“Today we went back to the Arken for breakfast and had culture orientation, where we learned about Sweden, as well as what kind of mission work we will be doing this week. After orientation, we had lunch and then went to Skillingaryd, an old, local hockey rink for practice. It was originally built to be an outdoor rink, where hockey was played in the winter and soccer would be played in the summer by the same members of the hockey team. They eventually built around the existing rink and had the Swedish national team play there as well as other professional teams. The whole group was excited and enthusiastic about the history of the rink and how unique it was!

After practice, we went back to the Arken for dinner followed by a quick break to walk around town and ended up going to a grocery store with a candy shop where we got some Swedish snacks. Once our break ended, we closed the day with small group discussions and prayer before going back to our accommodations for the night. I am excited for the games tomorrow as well as the opportunity to interact and share with the players on the opposing team after the game. I am also looking forward to hanging with the local youth at the church later this week and the impact we will hopefully have on them,” Desjardins said.
