Molotov cocktails thrown at the Palace: - Pure desperation

The man who threw two Molotov cocktails at the Palace on Monday pleads guilty.

The 57-year-old man was questioned by the police on Tuesday. He will be charged on Wednesday.

- He did it out of sheer desperation and hoped that the press would come so that he could convey his view, says the 57-year-old's lawyer, Marijana Lozic, to NRK.

Her client has said he wanted to draw attention to the rights of disabled people. In interrogations, he described Norway as a democratic country where he is confident that he will be heard, according to Lozic.

Lozic says her client pleaded guilty and has explained the incident in detail to the police. According to the lawyer, the questioning went well, and the man explained himself as well as he could.

TV 2 writes that the man was unaware of which building it was, and Lozic says he probably thought it was the Storting.

- He was a bit surprised this morning when he heard that it was the Palace and not the Storting that he had thrown at, says the lawyer to the channel.

The accused man is a Belarusian citizen and is already wanted in the Netherlands. According to TV 2, he has also been exiled from the EU, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. He has a ten-year entry ban.

When asked about the security around the Castle, police prosecutor Jenny Marie Solgaard said this incident does not change the general threat level.

- We think that there is no reason for the population to be afraid. We have taken control of the one accused in the case.

Communications Manager at the Palace, Guri Varpe, has confirmed that a Royal Family member was at the Palace when the firebombs were thrown. It should not be about anyone in the Crown Prince's family or the [King or Queen].

Varpe wrote an email to NRK that the Royal House does not want to say anything more about the incident, but they are happy that there were no personal injuries or major material damage.

Skredee, lit. sawjaw. A small grey-green six-limbed omnivorous avian/gliding squirrel with a sturdy beak and teeth that grow constantly over its lifespan. Has a disproportionately strong bite, capable of cracking open shells and nuts alike, which also makes it somewhat of a pest as it can gnaw through electric lines, walls, and even soft metal in search of food. Handling them barehanded is inadvisable as their bite can break finger bones. In their natural environment in galek forests, they eat nuts, crustaceans and insects that burrow under tree bark. They make chirping calls and screeching warning sounds (which are jokingly known as the other reason for their name).
