Sunil headcanon: Since Sunil is a banded mongoose (a species known for cleaning warthogs and members of their pack) I like to think if him and another pet are just chilling he'll subconsciously begin to clean them. Like he'll brush down fur that's stuck up and try to remove any knots with his hands and claws. If that isn't enough, he'll start using his tongue to smooth it out, which is the point where he realizes what he's doing and immediately apologizes (most of them are fine with it but maybe a little confused).

The way this manifests in his human version is that he constantly doing stuff like licking his thumb and cleaning off dirt and crumbs from his friend's faces, moving hair out of people's faces, fixing people's shirt collars, pointing out when people have things in their teeth etc.

Two beautiful captive bred White Line Geckos

One of these beautiful girls was sent out to Ontario recently! She will be joining another breeding project. A healthy captive bred population means fewer animals taken from the wild! This beautiful species has been exploited by the pet trade. For a long time the majority of animals were wild caught, sold in awful condition for less than $30.

Support captive breeding! Buying from a breeder means you have access to the animal's lineage, care history, feeding schedule, weight, and is generally much cheaper than buying from a store!

There are definitely reputable specialty pet stores out there, which will often purchase stock from local breeders.

These beautiful animals deserve the best of care ♡

My headcanon for what 'pets' the AC Protags have:

Altair: He would definitely have some sort of 'raptor' rehabilitation or sanctuary. Maybe even a breeding program for endangered species he houses.

Ezio: Being from a rich family, I'd have to say he would be a 'horse girl' and would have quite a few on his family property. Maybe even show horses with prestigious pedigrees with a stallion he studs for profit. With a singular big draft horse he rescued that simply gets to enjoy top notch grain and oats and miles of green pastures.

Ratonhnhake:ton: He volunteers at an animal sanctuary where he can interact with bears, wolves, Bob cats, and mountain lions, but he has a pet hedgehog at home that he adores. Maybe even some domestic 'descented' skunks instead of cats. And a ferret or two.

Desmond: It has become my personal headcanon that Desmond would have various snakes, lizards, frogs, and amphibians as pets. Mostly he breeds ball pythons, as they don't get overly large and are pretty chill. He also has a variety of tree frogs, a leopard gecko with a bad attitude, and one giant albino Burmese python he had to build his second bedroom into an enclosure for. But his most memorable pet, if only because of its attitude, is the monitor lizard he found as a baby. It acts very much like a dog, if dogs could climb vertical walls and has hooked claws and a whip like tail.

uhh, reading an old fic I never finished, apparently I hc that sunil smells like warm carrot cake?? it sounds nice but when I describe smells with "warm", it means there's a fleshy undertone to it. so if you pick up sunil after he's been sleeping for 4 hours and sniff him, he'd smell like an off carrot cake. big pro of having a pet, my chihuahua smells like doritos🙏

I actually love smell hcs cuz it gives me an idea on how the characters一 or how I think the characters live which leads to more ideas and such. no surprise, sunil likes things and himself to be kept clean. not as clean as russell but yk, tolerable and nice. takes great care of himself, too. I wouldn't say russell has a notable smell like sunil, he's so clean that he doesn't even have a smell. he's got a faint smell that is just russell... russell smells like his DNA. his house has that unique smell that can't be described, ykwim? and it's not bad either, I guess I would call Russell's faint smell as new furniture. yeah.

since I'm here now, ig I'll just explain the rest of what I think the main 7 smell like.

My mind immediately went to Minka, I think she smells similar to Russell except she has a smell that's actually notable. She smells like if you baked a potato pie using sharpies. "Sugar, spice, and everything nice" ahh monkey. It's not warm either, it's fresh. Like sharpie potato pie with a side of fabreeze. I don't exactly know what this means for Minka. I'd say she's doing fine. Living. Painting.

Zoe... I think she just smells like blanket. A well taken care of blanket, and not one that's sitting in a shelf or cabinet with other blankets for like 3 years, no, like a blanket you washed 2 weeks ago. Obviously she also smells like prefumes and stuff. A Sephora store, even. That is only when she is pampered up, though.

Pepper makes her own scents for herself but it majorly depends on how she's feeling. When she's not, she does have her own smell, and it's not anatomic skunk fart smelly, it's weed and mint cream smelly. If pepper doesn't have a mint smell, that is NOT her, that is a fake, don't go near her. And yeah, I did mention weed but I really mean more like a hemp cream. I do love both smells of weed and mint though, nostalgic scents. But here's the "smelly" part... she also smells a little like an abandoned meat farm. She just has to not be upset for that weed mint smelly smell to happen naturally, or else she is fish bomb stinky.

Vinnie smells, erm... Not the best. Could use deodorant more often, especially before dancing. I'm sorry😭 He doesn't smell sweaty all the time though, ofc. I think he smells like... minions kid perfume and olive oil. That's the smell I think reflects vinnies living habits. Are reptiles even capable of producing their own smells? (yes) Whatever, the gecko has hair. HIS HAIR, actually his hair does smell pretty nice. Coconut oil, maybe? It's not like Vinnie doesn't care about his hygiene, he just needs to work on that more. Mother never taught rahh

I think Pennyling smells the best, actually. She tries hard to smell good. Who'd wanna hug a fuchi panda? :( She learns from Zoe and Pepper about layering and what scents fit her best. Her smell is heavily based on what she puts on, so you'd less likely catch her smelling anything less than nice. So I'd say that she often decides to smell like Christmas-feel milk chocolate. It's a warm, cozy smell. While her natural smell is like leafy citrus. Very earthy.

so we did some research (actually they did the research I just looked up how long skunks live in captivity) now let me give you a list from first to die to last to die :)

As pets hedgehogs live up to six years or more, I remember them saying the longest a hedgehog has lived is like.... ten years....?? I think, but even then I think that's a rare chance

Pepper.... yeah. Skunks live up to ten years in captivity, so she'd probably end up dead after Russell

Let's talk about Vinnie. Geckos live up to twenty years. BUT we don't know what kind of gecko Vinnie is except for him being green. Let's say he's a green day gecko, smaller ones live up to about a decade while bigger ones live up to twenty years, if he's a backyard gecko then he'd live to about seven years. So it all depends on what gecko he is basically (I still think he'd end up dying after Pepper though)

Mongooses live up to ten years in the wild, but they live up to seventeen human years in human care.

Zoe's dog breed - Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - live between nine and fourteen years. So while she has a chance to die before Pepper, it's probably unlikely. So... Zoe, Vinnie, and Sunil would maybe die at around the same span of time

Penny and Minka would be the last to die and they would live a long time. Pandas can live up to thirty years in human care, while spider monkeys (which I'm assuming is the kind if Minka is) she would live for up to forty years. Yeah, forty years. Minka would probably spend ten or more years missing her friends :)

Oh, I actually know all that. I searched for their assumed lifespans long long ago and then again quite recently when I was writing a fic about how it would be once they would all start dying :)

And yes, Minka is a spider monkey. Penny Ling is a giant panda btw and Vinnie, well, as you said we don't know, I always just kinda assumed he was a house gecko.

But man, the fact that Penny and Minka have such long lifespans compared to others just makes me so sad cause they have 2 to 3 times longer lifespans than everyone else.

Even if Sunil lived 17 years there is still such big difference between that and 30-40. Like, Penny and Minka would realistically have a brand new group of friends in their life and maybe even outlive them too while everyone else would be long gone.
