Ryuichi Sakamoto's 80's basically became his promotion towards the status he did continue to have afterwards – which album did point to such an event? Was Beauty perhaps the album that made him into a figure he ended up as later on? Hard to say, since him becoming this professor of music probably happened before – B-2 Unit is my answer –, yet I would claim Beauty was an album, which was made during a period he finally reached the highest position of his career. His soundtracks kept winning awards and his group disbanded. Thus, the persona he was until the end of his career became much more visible. Mind you, this doesn't mean his music stopped developing – nothing could be further from the truth –, he ended up as the epitome of a certain mode. Which one? Keep reading.
