Policies that strengthen capacities and support MSMEs development and entrepreneurship for women and youth need to be at the forefront.
MSMEs and self-employed workers serve a core function in the development of economies. Globally, they represent about 90 percent of all businesses and account for over two-thirds of employment. If adequately supported, they can effectively contribute to the structural transformation of economies and drive inclusive, sustained, and equitable economic growth and jobs.
However, multiple simultaneous shocks and crises have disturbed the global working environment for entrepreneurs and MSMEs. In addition, conflicts, commodity dependence, geopolitical tensions, and pandemics drive social and economic instability, making MSMEs extremely vulnerable to rising inflation and supply chain disruptions.
Among the most vulnerable, women- and youth-owned enterprises are often at risk of external shocks. This is when the percentage and overall number of business formations by women and youth are increasing worldwide. However, facing limited access to affordable finance, capacity-building support, partnership networks, and global markets, women and young entrepreneurs need help to overcome the numerous challenges that frequently stifle the growth of their businesses, confining many of them to informality or necessity entrepreneurship.
Policies that strengthen capacities and support MSMEs development and entrepreneurship for women and youth need to be at the forefront to address those challenges, lower and remove barriers, and provide an operating environment for women- and youth-owned businesses to grow, thus contributing to the full achievement of SDGs 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 and the “leave no one behind” promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This MSMEs day will also focus on supporting resilient supply chains to ensure workers and the environment benefit. Supply chains are a critical component of global trade and commerce, and conflicts, disasters, and pandemics can quickly impact their functioning, increasing costs and making transactions more difficult.
In addition, competition and concentration of critical operations in international supply chains can pressure suppliers who are pushed to cut costs to stay in business. Poor working conditions, lack of workers’ representation, unfair wages, unsafe working environments, and reduced attention to environmentally-sound practices generate adverse outcomes. A human-centered approach is needed to help improve these conditions.
Practices that result in environmental degradation and compromise working conditions will ultimately affect MSMEs and the communities they serve. Therefore, policymakers and businesses must join forces to ensure economically viable, socially, and environmentally sustainable supply chains.

Loan up to 1 crore in 59 minutes to small enterprises : PM's Diwali gift.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a support and outreach initiative for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises from Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi. PM Modi spoke in detail in 12 major decisions taken in the small-scale industry through video conferencing. PM Modi said that for the last few weeks, many Indian government ministries were working together to reach out to these decisions. We well know that MSME or small industries are the means of livelihood of millions of people in our country, play an important role in the economy. The Prime Minister said that MSME is the second largest sector after employment. Farming is the backbone of India's economy, and then MSMEs are strong steps, which work to accelerate the country's progress. PM Modi said that far away, your entrepreneur, brother or sister, sitting in any corner of the country, will allow the loan up to Rs 1 crore in just 59 minutes. GST registered every MSME up to Rs one crore Interest on a new loan or incremental loan will give 2 percent discount. 3 percent of the total purchase from this will reserve for women entrepreneurs. PM Modi said that now the public sector companies by 25% of the small-scale industries. It has also decided that 3 percent of the total purchase from this will reserve for women entrepreneurs. For the upturn of technology, the government has decided that further extension of toolroom arrangements across the country will give. For this, 20 hubs will build across the country and 100 such words like toolroom will installed across the country. PM Modi announced a package of Rs 6,000 crore for this. A big decision has taken for small entrepreneurs to give at least forms and returns. 8 The labor tax and 10 central rules will have to be given once instead of twice in a year. The government is constantly working to reduce human intervention to make the system transparent. A colossus in the making, from thriving licensee entrepreneurships family-run businesses and social media start-up’s in today’s digital age, India has proved her entrepreneurial resilience. The discussion this week is Entrepreneurship and The India Focus.
Tumblr media
With the millennial workforce and new business opportunities, India fully recognizes value-creation of SMEs. The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Report 2016-17 puts the increase in the rate of entrepreneurial intention to 14.9% compared to 9% in 2015-16. In comparison with its peers in BRICS economies, India ranks highest in perceived opportunity, and second in perceived capability.
How is India different?
India’s potency lies in its small enterprises and “frugal innovation.” Indian entrepreneurship has evolved to offer products of acceptable performance standards. However it is primarily targeted at the bottom of the pyramid of consumers. In this market, it is identified that the crucial pillars defining success, are the price points and basic utility features.
What is the key challenge?
India holds enormous heterogeneity in entrepreneurship. The pace of entrepreneurship growth has been stilted with remunerations largely restricted to a beneficiary base within a regional purview. Impact can be scalable if training, innovation, and technology absorption are skilfully addressed.
What are the windows of opportunity?
• Intelligent harnessing of the nation’s extensive labour market and rising consumerism.
• Innovation cannot be far behind when the country’s potential is already at commendable levels to generate new products or adopt existing products. The 2018 Global Entrepreneurship Index ranks India at a very strong position in product innovation. Our skills just need to be channelized in the correct manner with precision in direction.
• Women-headed entrepreneurships a key driver of job growth. Empowerment and economic upliftment will naturally follow.
• Encouraging an economic spurt driven by aspiring entrepreneurs has propelled growth for the formal sector as well.
Economic reforms and a stable business ecosystem are criteria for nurturing entrepreneurial spirit. The foundations are already laid. What remains to be seen is how we capitalize and develop on it.
On that note, I wish you luck in earning your success!
