1) What would their social media page/activity be like

For Eileen: I remember when I first posted a shitpost of different characters in the internet, Rhett (an old mutual from Twitter) suggested that she'd mostly advertise selling loot she got from the hunted hunters, being all like 'hey guys new merch soon! ✌️' and I've never been able to come up with a funnier idea xD I do think that even shitposting aside, her account would be very hmmm… lacking in personal posts? Just what I mentioned, and also various helpful tips/references/explanations threads - made by herself or reblogged!

For Annalise: I kinda imagine her not having a personal page, but instead let her servant(s) run one, passing her words or posting important announcements about Cainhurst! In her throne room, there is a table with the letter on it, that we can presume was the person writing things from her words directly. So I feel like in the internet, it'd be the same! However… I think if she DID want to get a personal account, she'd be a troll there XD Like Wendy's roasting tweets, but in more sophisticated and passive-aggressive manner. And just like that, people would try to provoke her to roast them and boast about it if they succeed :') She'd lock the account and make it more of a vent one after Healing Church cancels her online though :pensive:

2) What animal they remind me of

For Eileen: A hard one, since it is not easy to separate her from crow theme... However, I think despite the lore weight of that theme, in her case it ACTUALLY fits. Like, you could separate Patches and Rom from a spider, but a crow for Eileen just... it just feels so RIGHT, that there is no need for a loreless alternative I think x)

For Annalise: I feel like lynx! She strikes me as a wild feline but a lioness just doesn't work, plus a lion is already a Byrgenwerth thing,. Lynx, on the other hand, is a beautiful wild cat, a capable hunter but also a very smart cat that won't attack a human first! This cat is also associated with both ginger/red and grey color, that fits HER hair. I also think some informational field around this animal plays role - such as ancient legend/superstition in Greece that a lynx could see through objects (that makes me think of her helmet and her guards').

3) My thoughts on their design/aesthetic alone

For Eileen: I do like her design a lot! All lore outside, simply her design is a really cool take on plague doctor aesthetic! She is impossible to confuse with any other character like that, despite fictional universes having plenty of examples! Giving her large cape resembling feathered garb and sticking with dark blue colors was such a cool move! Really, no matter how often aesthetic is used, you can always add a unique twist to it!

For Annalise: Honestly, her appearance with de-melanized hair and helmet covering her entire face is way more cool and mysterious than her normal appearance seen in portrait and concept art. Her design is super minimalist; that dress lacks detail, but it just works so... good? I think it'd kill the vibe if she was in a really detailed dress or some fancy cape in the game. She creates strong impression with her talking and her story, not with how she looks, so lets say uhhh, 'unassuming' appearance is only better!

I mentioned briefly in When We Met Part I about him informing me of this fact before we met up in person (we met online…19 years ago…right?). In that post, I only talked about J’s honesty (which I also obviously adore), but here I’m going to talk about how the full conversation went when he told me about the glasses.

J: Before we meet in person, there's something I have to tell you. <There was a very serious and somber quality to his words and maybe even a hint of anxiety in his tone.>

Me: OK. <Based on how his voice sounded, I was waiting for something like, 'I'm actually married...I have 4 kids I never mentioned before...I have terminal cancer...I'm being deployed overseas with the military in 5 days...I've killed 8 people and they're buried under my porch...>

J: The photograph I have up on my profile shows me in contact lenses, but I normally wear my glasses. When we meet, I'll be wearing my glasses. I just wanted you to know that so you aren't surprised. <His tone shifted, so I could hear his expenctant disappointment. Those were his words aloud, but his tone was saying, 'I am telling you this fact about myself to be honest, because I think it's the right thing to do, but I know Girls Don't Like Glasses.' He sounded like he was waiting for me to say, 'Nevermind. I don't want to meet up anymore. Glasses Are Nerdy.' See J and I are Old People now, and when we grew up, kids still routinely got bullied for wearing glasses. J was one of those kids.>

Me: Oh. No big deal. <That is what I SAID, but internally it was more like, 'OMIGOD HE WEARS GLASSES TOO?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Those blue eyes behind GLASSES?! I wonder if they have thick frames...sigh...' No shit--my knees got a little weak thinking about it.>

I’m probably revealing a legitimate fetish here right now, for those of you who don’t already know this about me, but I have a ‘thing’ for men who wear glasses. Especially thick framed glasses…or otherwise conspicuous ones. I have always preferred Clark Kent to Superman. Egon is my favorite Ghostbuster. I had a crush on Dwayne Wayne from A Different World as a preteen. Take virtually any handsome heartthrob dude groups of people who dig men swoon over and put a pair of specs on him? Now I think he's hot too, even if I didn't before. Like…it’s a problem well established pattern with me.

Anyway, J’s view of his glasses has evolved in our years together. He’s not embarrassed or insecure about them anymore. He had several different pair of glasses in the recent past. He has one pair though that have thick frames that are my favorite. He knows they are my favorite. He normally only wore them around the house. He’d never previously worn them on a day he planned to ride his motorcycle because thick frames + full face helmet never worked out. He rode his bike to work one day a couple years back, and he had those thick framed glasses on all morning because he is a big tease and he wore them most mornings before work and then changed before he walked out the door. I definitely expected him to change them that day, since I knew he was riding the bike. But he didn’t. So I politely asked him, ‘Are you going to wear those glasses to work?’ 

J: Yes. They're for seeing. <smirky smirky smirky smug face...gah!>

Me: They're not for turning on your wife? <smarty smart aleck face>

J: No. That's just a side effect of the glasses.

I couldn’t stop thinking about him wearing those glasses all day. And now he wears those glasses *all the time.* They are his full time glasses.

I mean, J is a handsome man in contacts and in bed at night with no glasses on. Don’t get me wrong. The man I initially fell for was J sans glasses in that online dating shot. But I love him in those specs. For real, sometimes I can’t even believe he’s married to me. He’s THAT good lookin’. But he never really thought he was before because of the glasses (even though they are sexy as fuck). I guess I just wanted to write a fun piece here that also shows that putting sincere love on someone’s insecurity can change how they see themselves. And even dominant men have insecurities that need love put on them.

Character Work – MAGE 

Today, I worked on the modeling of the Mage, which would be a guide that turns evil within the project cutscene. Starting off similarly to the Warrior, I changed the body shape of the base mesh provided using the sculpting tool to make him skinny. 

I then began shaping out the main clothing for him which is his robe and hood. I originally was going to make them connected however, the unique shape of the hood would not be able to be created with cloth simulation. Therefore, the robe itself was created by cloth simulation which then is turned into a full mesh that is solidified. To add the folds to the mesh I used the low poly mesh and added the modifier multiresolution to give me more vertices to sculpt details. The hood was created separately and was blocked out using the reference. Both were UV unwrapped ready to be textured later. 

Next adding the rig to the mesh, using the base mesh of the body I imported it into Mixamo which adds an auto rig to the mesh where I can download animations. Importing the rig into Blender I replaced the old mesh with the new rigged mesh to apply the clothing.  

To add clothes to the rig I used mesh transfer data which uses the already weight-painted body to copy the same weights onto the clothing. This was not perfect so did require some touch-ups but worked well. The hood however was attached by parenting the object to the bone as it only needs to follow the head like the warrior’s helmet. To add more movement/life to the hood I created extra bones that have a damp track which causes the bones to sway when the head moves. This was all weight painted to the hood later. Extra assets to the mesh such as books, scrolls, and hair. The creation of these assets was created by Zoe which I then added to the scene. Similarly to the hood, I used parenting to join objects such as the scroll, books, or straps to follow the rig and its animations. 

Finally, I created and added the textures to the meshes, for the clothing I used substance painter. Downloading online I used the premade smart martial known as silk. Using this as a base creates the desired visual, we were after whilst also tweaking it to make it match the colours and patterns of the concept. 

Exporting these textures separately however in the future I believe the better option is to create joined uv maps to avoid having to create as many separate textures as possible.
