MediaTek’s next-generation Dimensity platform confirmed Samsung’s 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X. MediaTek’s second-half flagship Dimensity 9400 System on Chip (SoC) verified 10.7Gbps operation speed utilising Samsung’s LPDDR5X 16-GB package. Together, the companies completed the certification in three months.

The 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X from Samsung outperforms the previous generation by 25% in performance and power consumption. This boosts AI performance like voice-to-text generation and extends mobile device battery life by not requiring a server or cloud connection.

The fastest LPDDR5X DRAM in the market, which is anticipated to dominate the AI smartphone market, has been confirmed by Samsung thanks to its strategic partnership with MediaTek, according to Samsung Electronics Memory Product Planning VP YongCheol Bae. “With active customer collaboration, Samsung will keep innovating and provide the best solutions for the on-device AI era.”

LPDDR5X Specs

MediaTek’s next-generation Dimensity chipset, which is the first in the world to be validated at LPDDR5X operating speeds up to 10.7Gbps, was made possible by collaborating with Samsung Electronics, according to company senior vice president JC Hsu.

This will allow future devices to deliver mobile performance and AI functionality that has never been seen before. “Developers and users will find it easier to take advantage of more features and AI capabilities with less impact on battery life thanks to this updated architecture.”

Me lo ricordo quel pomeriggio.

Doveva essere sabato pomeriggio; un sabato pomeriggio di metà anni novanta, con noi poco più che diciottenni che facevamo cose da poco più che diciottenni degli anni novanta: stavamo a casa di chi aveva “casa libera”, bevevamo, fumavamo, cazzeggiavamo.

Non c’erano gli smatphone, né i pc. Non c’era nemmeno internet, né you tube; però in qualche modo -parrà strano- ci divertivamo lo stesso. C’erano le sigarette che facevano ridere, e c’erano le videocassette.

E quel pomeriggio P. aveva tirato fuori una videocassetta tipo “Top 20 punizioni della storia del calcio” e buttati sul divano ci godevamo una serie di prodezze balistiche in bassa definizione, o addirittura in bianco e nero, con un sottofondo di una musichetta improbabile. Ad un certo punto le immagini si fanno sgranate, e una didascalia con pixeloni enormi spiega che siamo ai mondiali del ‘74, partita Brasile – Zaire.

Punizione a favore del Brasile poco fuori area, appena decentrata sulla sinistra. Il 10 del Brasile (che scopriremo poi essere Rivellino) si appresta a calciare; di fronte a lui il muro verde della barriera dello Zaire. L’arbitro fischia, ci aspettiamo tutti l’ennesimo capolavoro che aggira la barriera e si infila nell’angolino. E invece a sorpresa un difensore si stacca dalla barriera, corre come un pazzo sulla palla, la colpisce con ignoranza e la scaglia lontanissimo. I Brasiliani sono increduli, e mentre noi impazziamo sul divano, l’arbitro lo ammonisce.

Abbiamo riso fino alle lacrime, abbiamo rivisto la scena decine di volte, avanti, indietro, a rallentatore, poi una pietosa citofonata della mamma di P. ci ha costretti ad aprire le finestre e ripulire in tuta fretta le tracce del nostro vizioso pomeriggio, per poi salutare la padrona di casa e ritirarci con la coda tra le gambe, ancora sghignazzando per la prodezza dello Zairese.

E nei mesi successivi “l’africano che non sapeva le regole” è stato un leitmotiv di battute e scherzi, poi pian piano la cosa è passata nel dimenticatoio.

Fino a qualche tempo fa, quando nel giocare a tirare le punizioni con mio figlio Fabrizio mi sono ricordato dell’episodio e gliel’ho raccontato, per farlo ridere. Naturalmente -essendo lui un nativo digitale- mi ha chiesto di vedere il video, e in effetti dopo una breve ricerca ho ritrovato su you tube quel filmato che avevo visto l’ultima volta in VHF quasi trent’anni fa.

E insieme al video ho trovato la storia.

La storia della Repubblica Democratica del Congo, che dopo un colpo di stato militare propiziato dalla Cia si è trasformata in Zaire, guidata dal Colonnello Mobutu;

La storia di Mobutu, passato alla Storia come uno dei dittatori più sanguinari e corrotti della tormentata Africa, tanto da assurgere ad emblema del tipico “dittatore africano” e da far definire per la prima volta il suo governo col poco lusinghiero epiteto di “cleptocrazia”, o governo della corruzione;

La storia della prima squadra di calcio dell’Africa nera a partecipare ad un Mondiale di calcio, partita nel 1974 dallo Zaire alla volta della Germania con aspettative propagandistiche da parte del suo dittatore, e sconfitta per 2-0 all’esordio contro la Scozia, e addirittura 9-0 alla seconda partita contro la Jugoslavia, e che alla terza ed ultima partita del girone avrebbe dovuto affrontare il Brasile;

La storia di un jet privato atterrato in Germania con a bordo le guardie private di Mobutu, che hanno preteso un incontro a porte chiuse con la squadra e hanno detto senza mezzi termini ai giocatori che le loro famiglie rimaste in Africa erano ostaggio dell’esercito, e che una sconfitta contro il Brasile per più di 3 a 0 sarebbe costata la vita ai giocatori stessi e ai loro familiari, così come qualunque tentativo di fuga o di denuncia;

La storia di undici uomini terrorizzati che hanno giocato un’intera partita contro i Campioni del Mondo uscenti del Brasile (che per qualificarsi doveva vincere con almeno tre gol di scarto) lottando su ogni palla; undici uomini che con la forza della disperazione sono riusciti a mantenere il punteggio sul tre a zero fino all’85 minuto, quando venne assegnata quella punizione dal limite a Junino;

La storia di Joseph Mwepu Ilunga, numero 2 dello Zaire, che all’85 minuto è in barriera e sa che per salvare la sua vita e quella dei suoi cari da una morte atroce deve resistere per altri cinque minuti, cinque maledetti minuti; e vede sulla palla Rivellino con la maglia del Brasile e il numero 10 sulle spalle, e sa che quel pallone può essere la sua condanna a morte, e ha paura, ha una fottuta paura, e sa che deve fare qualcosa, che Rivellino con i suoi piedini fatati quel pallone non lo deve toccare. E quando sente il fischio dell’arbitro si lancia su quel pallone e lo colpisce con tutta la forza del suo terrore e della sua disperazione, per mandarlo il più lontano possibile.

La storia dei giocatori del Brasile, che da quel gesto apparentemente folle rimangono spiazzati e, ormai qualificati, praticamente smettono di giocare fermando il risultato sul 3-0;

La storia di tutto il mondo che per anni ha riso di Mwepu, l’africano che giocava al Mondiale senza sapere le regole, e che ha celebrato il momento come “la punizione battuta al contrario”

La storia di un giornalista, che nel 2002, dopo la morte di Mobutu e la caduta della dittatura, ha ricostruito l’intera vicenda, rivelando una delle pagine più drammatiche della storia del calcio consumatasi sotto gli occhi ignari di tutto il mondo;

La storia di noi quattro, che eravamo davvero quattro stronzi.

La Storia del mondo, che è fatta dalle storie degli uomini, e in queste trova un senso e un compimento.
