The Warhammer what?

Hey! Remember when the Warhammer Titan was an important plot point in this series? 

Neither do I! 

Seems this mammoth beast was created solely to round out the very specific Nine Titans said to exist by Isayama. This creature had ability to rival that of the previous ones encountered, yet it gets ONE battle. And it’s in the possession of one of the biggest footnotes in Titan history. Does anybody give a shit about Lara Tybur? Hope the actress got paid well for what was a bit part where the need for a defined personality and motive were totally exempt. 

Really not sure why it exists. It doesn’t seem to have made a substantial difference in Eren’s battle against the Shifters in Shiganshina. The Warhammer is woefully under used and quickly forgotten about despite it’s horrifying design and undeniably destructive power. 

It’s amazing how much in the timeskip just amounts to jackshit. I firmly believe Isayama got overambitious but had no sound plan to keep up with the endgame of his mythos. Surprising this doesn’t receive more complaint. 

Season four still treated as canon, folks? It’s the one that deserves to be disowned. 

This story ended with the Ocean.

I would have freaking laughed if Armin narrating Attack on Titan was him writing a book telling the events of the series, which he names “Attack on Titan.”

Ending haters...

We all know that for everyone who legit gives Attack on Titan’s manga ending a pass, somebody else comes along to say it was a hot mess that undermined the whole story. 

So many people have gone so far as to call the series “mid” because of the ending, but most still insist the series was good right up until the last couple of chapters, or even good up until the last two, Chapters 138 and 139. *CRINGE*

The hate for the ending, in my opinion, is completely justified. I have nothing nice to say of how the story finished, with or without those godawful ending panels. But why do people only focus on the ending? 

Because the problems began with the timeskip. The problems with the ending are symptoms OF THE TIMESKIP. 

Perhaps not everyone feels as strongly as I do that what happened to Sasha was the killing blow to the entire series, I’m certainly not the only person who thinks that but most don’t tend to isolate that as the start of the downturn. But let’s be real. The timeskip/season four just opened the floodgates for all sorts of narrative problems.

The excessive focus on Gabi, characters like Kiyomi or Yelena and Eren himself having unclear or straight up nonsensical motivations, the influx of new underdeveloped characters, the increasingly militaristic and possibly fascist tones of the new post-ocean setting, Eren’s descent into villainy, the politics between Marley and Eldia, Historia’s ultimately worthless pregnancy, the lack of character growth from Mikasa, even the Rumbling itself in concept and in execution........And oh yeah, Ymir Fritz if I’m not wrong is pretty divisive......

ALL OF IT was instigated across the entire course of the entire timeskip season. And I’m sure I only named a fraction of the problems fans began to have the longer the season wore on. 

People keep saying the series was great up until that incredibly polarizing final chapter. No. I think if you’re someone who has issues with the ending, then you need to be honest with yourselves. The entire timeskip is to blame for the final outcome. And it’s time to acknowledge that in discussing why the ending failed. The problems are not isolated to the final chapter. Though I think there’s little debate over the fact that Chapter 139 is one of if not the absolute worst chapters of AOT. 

For me I think it began all the way back with Chapter 91. When we shifted to an entirely different series where it wasn’t about the Titans anymore. 

If you’re someone who is pissed about the ending, you need to look more critically at the entire final act. 

This story ended with the Ocean.
