Eventually Eddie tells Steve about what happened, what his friends said
Steve shows up at Gareth’s with the nail bat
Hmm... politely disagree, nonny. Steve showing up with a nail bat is insulting, especially since he and Eddie are at a point where they talk about the things that upset them. Eddie would be furious if Steve threatened his friends with physical violence.
It's Robin who shows up with the nail bat.

Picnic Date
Tumblr media
It was only normal that after countless trips to the World of the Living, you would come across many different activities that humans partake in regularly. However, one thing in particular had caught your eye during your last trip. It was your first time traveling without your lover and captain, Ukitake, who was feeling more ill than usual at the time so logically, he had stayed back in the Soul Society. You had gotten to know this leisurely activity while on your way to check up on the substitute soul reaper, Ichigo Kurosaki. The sun was setting, tranquil and gorgeous, a strong shade of red overtaking the horizon, indicating that the next day would be a hot one. You had stopped by at the local park, taking your time to observe all the different people who were there for different reasons. What grabbed your attention the most was the young couple seated on a small blanket with lots of little snacks layed out on it. This suddenly sparked an idea in your brain, making you all giddy with excitement with the thought of executing this plan flawlessly.
*
A few days had already passed since your return to the Seireitei, and unfortunately, you weren't able to execute the plan you had in mind. Both you and Ukitake were really busy with soul reaper duties, giving you little to no time to spend with each other.
Finally, Saturday had arrived and surprisingly, you and Ukitake had no work at all, granting you the opportunity to work on your little surprise. You woke up pretty early in the morning to the birds delightfully chirping outside, rays of sun dispersed around you and your partner's shared room. With little to no surprise, said partner was still in his own little world of sleep. He deserved this, after over exerting himself making his illness take a turn for the worse. After giving your boyfriend a quick kiss on his forehead, you were wide awake and ready to get your morning routine over and done with in order for you to get started with preparations for today's surprise. You ended up settling for a messy ponytail, a short white dress with little red strawberries all over it, hugging your curves perfectly. You had bought this dress while in the World of the Living with the Women's Soul Reapers Association. As for shoes, you simply went for a pair of old sneakers just in case they were to get dirty.
You started off by grabbing a simple white blanket, suitable for a picnic. As for the food, you had put your best friend, Rangiku Matsumoto, in charge of this task. Though she wasn't the best cook, she was the only friend of yours who had nothing to do the night before your picnic outing. As you arrived at her living quarters, you loudly knocked on the door, knowing that that's what it usually took your friend to open up. As the two of you exchanged greetings, you noticed that time was already running out, meaning that you had to quickly grab the food and head out to the chosen picnic location in order for everything to be layed out flawlessly before Ukitake's arrival.
"Okay, so I have everything you asked for here including the ohagi. Though I must admit, I may or may not have convinced Kira and Hisagi to help."
Knowing your best friend, this was to be expected from her the moment you even considered asking for her help. "Can't say I'm surprised. Anyway, I've got to get going now. Thanks for everything!", you yelled over your shoulder, running to be able to make it in time for the set-up. The location you chose was one that your lover frequently went to when he found himself to be overwhelmed. It was surrounded by tall grass still covered in little droplets of dew. A bunch of daisies were starting to grow, making it the perfect setting for a picnic. You started off by spreading the white picnic blanket in a suitable spot, patting out the wrinkles to make it look more presentable. Next came the several assortments of food ranging from Ukitake's favorite, ohagi, to something as simple as mini sandwiches and strawberries. You had contemplated the night before on whether or not you should convince Kyoraku to lend you some of his sake, however you decided not to, in fear of your lover's health.
It was nearing one o'clock, the time decided on for your meet-up, when you caught a glimpse of your partner's white hair, indicating that he was approaching you. The tall, slender man wore an outfit he considered "casual" since he was almost always in his shihakusho; a pair of black dress pants, a white button up shirt and a pair of black sneakers. He still had no idea what you had planned for the day, having told him only the location and no additional details. As he got closer, you waved at him in order for him be able to spot you. Quickly and excitedly, you stood up to greet your lover, "I'm glad you were able to make it on time", you smiled into his chest, hugging him tightly. "I wouldn't miss this for the world- oh and what do we have here?", he paused while still hugging you, peering behind you curiously at the cute picnic set-up. You slowly pulled away from the hug, Ukitake still holding you, trying to hide the light blush tinting your cheeks, making you look at the ground, "Well I thought that since we haven't been able to spend some quality time together recently, I decided to take things in my own hands and plan this little picnic date for us. Do you not like it? We can go back home or do something else if you wa-" Your lover lightly chuckled at your embarrassment, interrupting you with a soft kiss to your lips, silencing you immediately. "I absolutely love it. Well, why don't we go ahead and get started, shall we?"
The both of you sat across from each other, making sure not to mess up the food and blanket that you took your time setting up. Ukitake's eyes lit up as he noticed his favorite dish that you had managed to remember bringing. You giggled at his childish eagerness, happy to see him acting relaxed, which was rare considering the life you both lived. Killing hollows and having to engage in battle with the occasional ryoka always affected you both, as you never knew when the other was in a life threatening situation. However, these situations really made you appreciate the time spent together, making you cherish each other even more. You were so lost in your own thoughts, that you hadn't noticed Ukitake staring at you in pure adoration with his favorite food halfway into his mouth. Once you snapped back to reality, the view in front of you caused you to suppress your laughter, not wanting to ruin the mood. As the day went on, both you and your lover were enjoying the food that ended up tasting "not as bad as expected" according to Ukitake, and indulging yourselves in a simple conversation, catching each other up on your lives with a bit of laughter here and there while the both of you were very busy.
Hours had passed, and it was already nearing sunset. The both of you had finished eating a while ago, now laying on the picnic blanket with Ukitake on his back and you on your stomach, leaning over so that your face was above his. You were still chatting about anything and everything while playing with your lover's long white hair that you love styling so much. As he was telling you about one of Kyoraku's drunken stories, the daisies you had initially taken notice of, caught your eye once again. You leaned over Ukitake's face, causing your chest to be right over his face, making him very flustered as he was cut off mid-sentence, "Um sweetheart, may I ask what you're doing?". You had in fact picked a pretty daisy that had already fully bloomed. Going back to your initial position, no words spoken, you slowly placed the flower in your lover's hair, causing him to widen his eyes as he deeply blushed. "What? I just thought it would look pretty on you." As you spoke, Ukitake grinned, propped himself up on his elbows and softly grabbed your face, pulling you in for a sweet kiss, one you so desperately longed for after all this time you were apart. You made sure to avoid hurting him as you tangled your hands in his soft hair, pulling him even closer to you if that were even possible.
After you both reluctantly pulled away from the quite literally breathtaking kiss you shared, Ukitake pulled you down on top of him, positioning you comfortably on his chest all the while tightly embracing you and stroking your locks, soothing you. As you were gazing at the beautiful sunset, your lover decided to break the comfortable silence. "I really appreciate what you had planned for us, darling. It's been a while since we were able to just comfortably be around each other without any distractions. Even though this may sound cheesy or whatever, you know I love you, right? I don't get to say it much, but I really do", he quietly spoke, afraid to ruin the mood. This sudden statement made you smile to yourself, happy to hear these comforting few words after quite some time. "I know that. I really do love you, too, Jushiro."

A Sinister Sneaky Lila Prompt
(( So I was just thinking about the first meeting between Lila and Marinette and how our favorite spotted hero only learned about Lila being a bad person because her crush on Adrien made her freak out and immediately get suspicious of Lila and while Lila did end up being a bad person the fact that Marinette only figured it out because she had a jealous freak out always sat poorly with me so I thought up a different scenario one where Lila is more conniving and patient.))
What if Lila was a little more calm the first time we met her? What if instead of immediately showing up and spilling lies she initially goes with a much more subtle approach? Sure she still lie’s but she starts off with small things instead. But the biggest difference? She doesn't go after Adrien right away therefore Marinette’s first reaction isn't to freak out about another girl talking to Adrien but instead to greet the new girl and let her know she's the class president and maybe even warn her about Chloe the resident class bully?
Now I don’t think that even a subtle Lila would be ‘subtle’ so I imagine even on her first day her interest in Adrien is plain to see. But maybe instead of freaking out or trying to immediately claim the blonde she plays up the fact that she's a ‘fan’ of his and isn't he so gorgeous and friendly? And yeah of course Marinette doesn’t want competition but he's a freaking celebrity she can't really expect or demand other girls NOT to see how gorgeous and perfect he is! And maybe with Alya to encourage her bestie it turns into Marinette and Lila gushing together about how kind he is and his various photoshoots and from there Lila slips in a lie about having some modeling experience from her younger years? Because Lila doesn’t want enemy’s she wants ‘friends’ she wants Adrien and based on what she was able to glean from his social media accounts and her first meeting with the model he’s an absolute idiot who admires ladybug the heroin and is all about ‘friendship’ and ‘forgiveness’ so Lila needs to make herself look like the biggest sweetest everyday hero.
A few days into Lila being at school she learns that while lots of girls in school like Adrien the only real competition is Marinette. A review of the baker girls social media shows she has quite a few connections of her own so Lila doesn’t want to risk cutting the girl off when she’s a potential source for fame. More so with how much attention Adrien gives the pigtailed brat Lila definitely does not want to risk being caught threatening or bullying the girl in any way. So Lila decides to try a different approach. Using her talent for lies Lila infiltrates the girl group at school, she gets on with Alya by encouraging ALL her theories and validating even her crazier ideas to try and unmask Ladybug, she gets on with Mylene by talking about how she was THE  actress at her old school and would love to give Mylene advice on her acting! Alix? Its all about how she’s not THAT much of a girly girl last summer she was at a survival camp! Rose is easy as pie and just as much of a bubblegum airhead and Juleka… Well Lila see’s no point in befriending her anyway! She’s just the weird quiet girl.
Now with her way into the group guaranteed Lila can ‘help’ with operation Adrienette she pretends to think the pair are cute and she “respects” how Marinette is drawn to Adrien for his “kindness” the sheer amount of will it takes for Lila not to roll her eyes is staggering really. But its all worth it to learn about the plans to try and help Marinette confess to Adrien and Lila makes sure to ruin each and every single one. Well she TRIES… Admittedly her success rate is more like 70% the ones she ruins range from Marinette just tripping up literally to  the ‘pasta’ incident where Marinette wound up covered head to toe in delicious noodles and sauce. The ones she fails to ruin result in her grinding her teeth as Adrien and Marinette spend time together. But of course Lila isn’t just content to ruin as many ‘Adrienette’ moments as she can. No the real goal is to have Marinette give up on Adrien completely hopefully to the point of avoiding him then Lila can swoop in for the steal. In order to achieve this Lila makes sure to ‘comfort’ Marinette after every failed attempt when really shes just finding ways to tell Marinette how she failed and “oh you must have been sooo embarrassed when that pasta fell on you right in front of Adrien I have no idea HOW you’ll ever face him” the rest of the time? She’s reminding Marinette about the pressure on her how Adrien has to date someone who can match him in style, how whoever he dates will be under scrutiny from the media, how Gabriel might have certain expectations from whoever Adrien dates! Their just tiny comments, tiny nitpicks, tiny little doubts she sows into Marinette ruining her already fragile self esteem while no one's the wiser.
Only what if someone does notice? Juleka who Lila never bothered to befriend thinking she was just another quiet weirdo notices the drop in Marinette’s esteem, how could she not? After all Marinette was always pulling her out of HER shell and now no one but her is noticing that Marinette is crawling into one of her own. And Juleka notices that its Lila’s doing, because Juleka is sneaky she see’s Lila cornering Marinette she hears the subtle jabs against the girls self esteem all disguised as ‘friendly concern’ she notes the way Marinette pulls away from Adrien with time how she discourages the girls from planning anything new after SO many attempts have left her bruised and ashamed. With Juleka on the case she starts trying to pick up the pieces of Marinette trying to rebuild her confidence and distance her from Lila until she can find some way to let the rest of the class know about how Lila has been ruining their class presidents self esteem in a way worse than anything Chloe ever did.
But how does the story end? Does Juleka unknowingly guide Marinette into the waiting arms of Luka? The calm guitarist eager to help out in rebuilding the girls now fractured self confidence? Does his calm presence and the lack of pressure and bad experience make Marinette’s heart flutter? Lila rejoices in her victory poised to take Adrien for herself but failing as the model now suddenly seems hung up on the baker even though he never noticed her before? Does Luka rise in stardom with Marinette at his side the two becoming a power couple no one saw coming? All while Lila looks on in jealousy because even though she’s won somehow shes lost? Does she reveal herself in a fit of rage because she WON  and she should be happy but Marinette ruined it by somehow scoring the bigger fish? Does Marinette cry at the lose of what she thought was a friend? Does Adrien kick himself for not noticing her earlier? Does Juleka secretly dance because her brother and her dear friend are madly in-love and absolutely adorable together?
Or maybe its Adrien? Because despite all the pain and all the failures and embarrassment and ruined attempts at dates and confessions thanks to Lila’s meddling Adrien felt himself getting drawn to Marinette? Maybe even the failed attempts made him feel closer to her somehow because of how vulnerable and honest the girl is with him and how she picks herself up even when she falls. Does he remember her face red as a tomato unshed tears in her eyes her hair dripping with noodles and sauce and he questions why he didnt grab her hand and wipe her tears and do anything he could to make her smile? Does Lila rage when she realizes her failure does she Juleka catch her threatening and admitting all her misdeeds to Marinette in the bathroom later that day? Does Adrien protect Marinette fiercely and vow to replace every day that Lila ruined with a day full of his love and appreciation for her? Does Lila turn out to be wrong completely and every fear she instilled in Marinette crumbles away as the media embraces the couple completely, and Gabriel adopts the girl eager to grow her talents?
Or maybe its someone else? Felix? Kagami? Chloe? An OC? Lila herself having accidentally fallen for the baker and now needing to redeem herself so she can earn the girls love because she was sneaky and conniving and a liar and she ruined Marinette and tore her from Adrien and regrets it?

Chapters: 12/? Fandom: Bridgerton Rating: T Warnings: Presumed Character Death Relationships: Colin Bridgerton/Penelope Featherington,  Eloise Bridgerton/Penelope Featherington(besties),  Bridgerton Family Dynamics, Simon Hastings/Daphne Bridgerton Characters: Colin Bridgerton,  Penelope Featherington, Eloise Bridgerton, Anthony Featherington,  Benedict Bridgerton,  Portia Featherington, Violet Bridgerton, Genevieve Delacroix Additional Tags:  Bridgerton, Polin Summary:  Unexpected bad news arrives for the Bridgerton Family (and friends) regarding Colin's travels. This will be a series that is set after "The Duke and I" or season one of the show. It is a companion piece to "Goodbyes".
It took nearly a week for the tensions to calm down after what posthumously was dubbed ‘the night of the burnt dresses’.  Anthony for his part had attempted to make things right by purchasing a series of new dresses for Penelope.  He knew that he took things a bit too far but he’d only wanted to protect her like he would any of his sisters.  At the end of the day, he wouldn’t change a thing about the actions he’d taken.
He wouldn’t come right out and say it but he also felt a bit like he’d done the poor girl a favor.  Her mother had clearly been dressing her in poor fitting dresses in the poorest excuse of fabric colors for years.  Dressed in decent clothing, it was abundantly clear that had she had her new wardrobe in the last season, things might have played a little differently for her.
He knew better than to put that out into the universe though since he’d barely escaped unscathed from the daily glares, silence and intermittent tongue lashings from the family.
Benedict hadn’t exactly been forgiven either.  Whenever he came into the room, people got up and walked out all together.  Eloise and Benedict had hardly went a day since Eloise was born without talking to each other and even she was keeping her distance.
It was enough to drive anyone mad.  There was only so long that Benedict could avoid being home by drinking and making art.  As much as he needed his outlets, he also did enjoy the comfort of family around him.
He needed to take action but he didn’t know what to do.
Fortunately for him, he didn’t have to do anything.
He was alone the study when he heard the door open.  He was busy working away with a sketch with his charcoals and he didn’t bother to look up. In his mind it was either going to be a servant or someone who would walk right back out.
He was surprised when it wasn’t.
“Benedict,” he heard after a long moment.
He looked up and there was a strange sense of déjà vu that hit him.  Just like she’d sought him out before on the swings and things had seemed to be working themselves out, she was there again.
She cleared her throat.  There was something quiet, unsure about her voice which reminded him of how she’d always been instead of the confident girl that he’d been watching her grow into.
“Can we speak?”  she asked.
“I’ve been trying to speak to a week,” he said knowing there was some edge to his voice and he softened it once he caught himself. “I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings or deceive you.  I was just caught off guard and -  I would have told you I didn’t send the dress.”
“This isn’t about the dress,” she told after a moment, lips pursing into a tight line.  “I know that none of you would intentionally hurt me. It was my thought for jumping to conclusions and thinking that you were trying to romance me. I’ve never actually had anyone attempt to romance me so I was too blinded by it to think logically and Eloise didn’t help.”
“I didn’t know that you wanted me to romance you,” Benedict said after a long moment raising an eyebrow.   It was uncanny really that even now the thought of actually romancing her was foreign, weird.  Even after all these weeks, he still thought of her like another sister. If he set his mind to it, he could do this properly.  “I mean, I thought that you hadn’t set your mind to accepting my proposal so I was honestly giving you the space you required.”
“I don’t know what I want,” Penelope confessed after a long moment.  That didn’t seem an accurate depiction of how she felt though since she knew precisely what she wanted and it was something that she could never have.  All the time in the world could pass and she’d still wonder about how differently her life might have been had Colin not been lost at sea.  “I won’t begrudge you secrets because I have plenty of my own – I can’t marry someone that I can’t trust and I wouldn’t want that for someone else.  You can’t grow to love someone if you can’t trust them.”
It was that point that he realized she was still wearing the ring he’d given her and everything seemed to fall into place. She was actually considering going forward with this after everything.  An even bigger alarm went off in his head at the fact she thought she could have some secret so big that he might have a problem with it. He cocked his head gazing at her as if trying to read through it all to figure it out.  There was literally nothing there.
“I won’t lie to you any more then,” he said after a long moment. “And while I can’t think of anything more than a white lie that you are burdened by, I suppose you can do the same.”
Penelope visibly winced at that.  There was something about the expression on her face that made it clear that she was holding back something big and he was at a loss so he just listened and waited, prepared for her secret to be something absolutely innocent.
“Then I must tell you something now,” she started. “You must promise to never tell anyone.”
“I promise,” he told her. He nodded, anticipating building and a chuckle already threatening at his lips for whatever would come out of her mouth.
“I’m Lady Whistledown,” she confessed.
Confusion flooded his feature and that chuckle did escape though almost waiting for her to laugh as well. Surely, this was a joke!  There was absolutely no way.
“Did Eloise put you up to this?”
“No, I’m serious.”
“But – that’s impossible!” he found himself arguing knowing that there was no way that the awkward little wallflower who hung around his little sister was that the proprietor of that wretched gossip column. “There is no way that you’d have nearly ruined yourself and the whole Marina Thompson thing easily could have –“
“Colin,”  she said after a long moment as if to justify it. “I couldn’t let Colin go through with it.  I tried to talk him out of it and he wasn’t listening so I used the only tool that I had that would stop him.  I’d rather be a spinster than someone who lets. I regret the hurt that it caused but I don’t regret – well, I do actually.  If I’d not done it, he’d still be here now and you wouldn’t be trying to ruin your life by marrying me.”
That was enough to render his speechless and he rose from where he’d been sitting, pacing for a moment to try and gather his thoughts.  His family had been absolutely obsessed with that woman, trying to figure out who she was every time they delighted in what she said or were angered.  He didn’t know whether to be upset or proud that Penelope was capable of such a stir.
The truth of the matter was that she’d never said anything that was false (as far as he was aware) about their family or other families. She merely speculated, stated what she observed and candid.  He couldn’t hold that against her, especially when more times than not she’d saved them.
The fact that she blamed herself for saving Colin from a loveless marriage built upon a lie hit him like a ton of bricks and the heaviness of it reminded him of the grief that he’d locked down. He wasn’t happy that his brother was gone but he didn’t blame Penelope or anyone else for the death.  He could have just as easily blamed Anthony for the fact he’d felt like he needed to see more of the world.
Benedict let out a long breath of air that he didn’t know he’d been holding before crossing the room,  decisively taking her hands as if to show that this information didn’t bother her.  He wasn’t going to go and tell the Ton this information.
“You’re not the reason he’s dead,” he said after a long minute.  She wasn’t quite looking at him though so he reached down to force her to look up at him.  “Besides, Colin would be furious if he knew you were blaming yourself for that.”
She was clearly going to dismiss the words but it was essential that he knew as much.
“Well he at least wasn’t furious enough to come back and haunt me,”  she said quietly after a minute. She’d honestly begged him to do it and he hadn’t.
“Well you’re just not looking in the right place. He’d haunt the kitchens. Even in death he’d be a bottomless pit,”  Benedict added, with a sad, wiry smile. Even if it was painful to talk about him, it did feel nice to have Colin’s name not be avoided.
“I can’t argue that,” she said after a long moment.  “Are you really sure though?”
“Yes, I’m sure,” he insisted.  “You’re just crazy enough to survive our family.  We might as well make it official.  I suppose, I could put one condition on it.”
“And what might that condition be?”
“Our first born son,” Benedict said after a long moment pausing to try and make the words feel less weird. “He’d have to be named Colin.”
Something about that touched Penelope to the core and she felt tears forming in her eyes. She wasn’t quite sure how much of that was still grief and how much was the moment.  Her words didn’t form for a long moment.
“What if we only have daughters?” she finally asked.
“Colleen clearly,” Benedict added with mirth.
--
Beloved Readers it appears that the mourning black of recent days is about to transform to new, exciting shades. It  thrills me to announce that the confirmed bachelorette Penelope Featherington will not be forced to spend season as a wallflower.
As previously reported, she took up residence with the Bridgerton Family some time ago. While there was speculation around the Ton to what this might mean,  we can now confirm that from grief new beginnings have formed.
Benedict Bridgerton, the second eldest son of the family, has allegedly proposed and said proposal has been accepted.  The news has brought joy where in recent weeks there has been little positive news to report…
