#sodachi fiasco

i'm already going feral this has been happening since it started to become clear Shaft would be skipping the arc
Trueeeeee I wonder if ppl make enough noise they could push sodachi fiasco up the adaptationary ladder. Idk what’s up with it. I feel like there was a conscious effort to post sodachi in advertising more when people started making noise. Who knows what’s goin on with it at this point, maybe it’s a hanamonogatari incident? Tbh I really want that arc adapted bc it’s peak.

I'm reading Sodachi Fiasco.
I'm only like 1/5th done but it's amazing to me how she's changed but also hasn't at all.
Example being that she debated just letting someone in the class walk up to her and try to be her friend and solve her problem.
Which is like, the exact same thing she did as a child. Wait for someone else to solve her problem.
But I guess you can't be surprised considering she did try to put herself out there and fell on her face (metaphorically).
Idk I'm interested in seeing how she goes about it from here.

finally starting to read Sodachi Fiasco...
my very first impression in reading chapters 1 and 2 is that the narrator voice is noticeably more, theatrical? Not sure if that's the word I'm looking for exactly. And at first I wasn't sure if this was meant to be a part of Sodachi's unique character voice or just a side effect of switching from official translations to fan translations.
But then I got to c3, which starts off with a little anecdote about meringue. And it's funny, because when I first saw it I was thinking, okay, yeah, this is the kind of humorous aside monogatari loves to make, this is more what I'm used to, maybe I was overthinking things before - except then Sodachi realizes the digression she's gone on is off-topic, stops talking about it, and scolds herself for it - it feels pretty different from how Koyomi (or other narrators, like Suruga or Hanekawa) would let the joke go on in full.
So from these first few pages my impression of Sodachi as a narrator is that she is deeply self-conscious, with a constant worry about how her own actions appear to others, to the point of sometimes narrativizing her own life - because while this is her story, her perspective, she's thinking enough about how other people will perceive her that she's trying to imagine how it looks from third person, and preemptively correct things.

you go into Sodachi Fiasco thinking there's going to be some horrible atrocity occurring but it turns out the fiasco is just cringe

Actually annoying Sodachi Fiasco and Suruga Bonehead are getting moved to after Nadeko Draw, if at all.
If they do all of them later, you still need them before Nadeko Draw, even if they 'aren't that important'. They're still kind of important.
You can't just take Nadeko Snake out before you get to the Tsubasa Cat Bake finale, because it's not that important to Tsubasa Cat. Because it's important to the cast in Tsubasa Cat.
It's the same as why Hana is better before Koi. The character throughlines are important.

Sodachi Fiasco is going to be so interesting because it is so fucking excruciating to just read because Sodachi is so painfully unable to interact with other people at all
the second hand embarrassment (?) from actually watching it is going to be so insane I'm gonna have to be put into a straight jacket to actually get through it

Actually yeah if you view Oshino as the logical extreme of Koyomi's "interacting with others lowers your intensity as a human" mindset than maybe his weird victim blaming in Neko Black makes sense.
He's a heroic figure overall, a nice guy. But dude c'mon she was a child. You can't blame her for not saving herself.
This is what Sodachi's character is about, even - she does survive on her own but Sodachi Fiasco has her realize she made it harder for herself for no real reason but, at best, a stubborn pride.
Rely on each other, please. That's what Monogatari continues to say.

I’m pretty convinced the way they’re gonna break up the episodes for next season is that they’re gonna sprinkle the rest of the waza episodes around for the sake of keeping up the feeling of an ongoing narrative abt Shinobu and deathtopia via consistant character appearance to have the feeling of buildup maintained. In the sense that yoimono has decent amount of Shinobu appearance but Amari and ougimono have less and if they wanted to engage in the flow of Shinobu posting to be constant for the build to shinomono in the way Nadeko’s appearances would be, they’d probably put them around there for the sake of hype.
However that is subject to change depending on how they do musubi which I can see them do a direct run through, sprinkling it next shinomono, putting individual episodes next to the 3 arcs b4 shinomono specifically to max them out for the vibe (most evil option) or doing an ova.
I think that for the rest of oraka putting sodachi fiasco as an opener to the next season and putting suruga bonehead some point after but before ougimono (I’d say that between yoi and Amari is likely bc of digestion time but also the fact we don’t have that second resolution and if you put it directly next to ougimono its gonna feel like they’re hyping towards a plot that isn’t actually gonna be resolved soon but doing that is nisio core so I’d accept it. But realistically because of the overarching Gaen izuko subplot that comes to a head by shinomono it makes sense to perform that same build up as a parallel. Really I think the best time to look at those arcs is in novel order but we can’t do that now, big signs that say look at Gaen plot will probably be successionally happening bc of this. So I think getting it in early has its merits esp if they’re going with buildup)

New Monogatari anime opens the way Koimonogatari did, with Kaiki just staring at the screen.
"For those of you expecting to see Sodachi Fiasco, did you really think that was going to pull in casual Monogatari fans for a brand new series? Really? Anyway, here's Yotsugi playing Wonderwall."

What happen with sodachi fiasco?
It has been a billion years, I know, but I genuinely believed Vertical would start releasing Off Season after Zoku Owari, so I didn't see much of a point in continuing my revision of it.
I started this blog when I was 22 and had no idea where my life was going, but now I'm 29 and things have obviously not taken me in the direction of translation. That said, I basically owe my life to Monogatari and specifically Sodachi, so I really want to continue my revised translation of Sodachi Fiasco eventually. I haven't given up on it—I'm just super busy these days. Eventually, I promise...
