        wendla’s sentiment only makes it harder for ella to hold back the tears from rolling down her cheeks. there have been so many days where it feels like the roof might as well be caving in above her, waiting to crush her underneath a pile of rubble too deep for her to climb out of. perhaps it’s foolish of her, to believe things will get better, especially when it feels like everything that could possibly go wrong has done just that;  but it doesn’t stop her from getting her hopes up, only for it all to come falling down around her once again. 

        her eyes squeeze shut, a heavy sigh falling from her lips, as she crawls over the empty spot beside wendla and lays her head carefully on her friends lap. her fingers tremble as she does her best to offer her some kind of apology for the sudden outburst.  ❝  i’m sorry, wendla.  ❞
