i've been thinking a lot about Suyaf and her love for playing and making music (i imagine she will once become famous throughout Sorka for her songs, among other things) which contrasts with her being a proud and strong nomadic warrior
with that i also began thinking about sorkish musical instruments, and so áyruk came to be (lit. "four-thing" in Sorkish, probably a clipping/simplification of áyurkoqhuk "four string thing"). inspiration drawn from bağlama and shamisen but i settled on four strings to try and be at least a little bit original. plectrum (sor. kóğan) is used when playing which is traditionally made from bone with a wooden handle but since bone is brittle, purely wooden plectra are popular with alternative, more aggressive play styles

Hihi! Ive been going down a whole rabbit hole with your sorkish conlang. Ive browsed your conworkshop and neocities but havent been able to find a solid explanation/breakdown of the script? Ive picked up a few patterns but was hoping you could explain or post a key for the script? Thanks!
hi! yeah well i'm purposefully avoiding posting keys to my conscripts because i tend to change them a lot even after "finishing" them and i wouldnt want to constantly update the information i post online lmao
but honestly the script might be in a stage where it is safe to post the key so here it is (im currently only thinking about changing the glyph for /x/ but who knows if i will actually do something about it)
i didnt explain how the consonants are connected except /n/ but the secret to this is you just do it. somehow. as long as it looks good it's fine
(though i forgot about /q/ which has its quirks when it comes to connecting but i can explain it in another post. also forgot to mention that the extra high glyph doesn't take vowel diacritics but i suppose that's obvious)
#i hope everything us understandable and readable ahah#very appreciate your interest in the lang and script thank you:]#sorkish conlang#sorkish script#conlanging#conlang#constructed language#neography#conscript#constructed script#kélas

poorly drawn sorkish kinship! basically everyone is your sibling if you squint enough
in all seriousness: sorkans basically have two kinship systems used simultaneously, the one above being the base one. it is only used in one's clan and the basic rule is that anyone significantly older than you is your parent, your peers are your siblings and anyone significantly younger than you is your child.
now outside your own clan, you use the second, complex system. there are no special words, every term is derived from the three terms (and their gendered counterparts) described above + spouse, so here are some examples:
paternal uncle: 't-vagár álam "father's brother"
maternal uncle: 't-vagár ayát "mother's brother"
paternal grandmother: 't-ayát álam "father's mother"
maternal grandmother: 't-ayát ayát "mother's mother"
paternal male cousin: at-yér 't-vagár álam "father's brother's son"
paternal female cousin: at-káy 't-vagár álam "father's brother's daughter"
of course the second system is also marginally used inside your clan to describe the exact relations and to teach children how to refer to their clan's members outside of the clan. it is important to know it since many people would consider you and your clan uneducated if you messed up talking about your paternal grandmother's niece who married off into the raf'zághtan clan 15 years ago
#i would love to show every term in the second kinship but my head would probably explode in the process of making the terms#sorkish conlang#sorkish script#kélas#conlanging#constructed language#conlang

siyélistal
lúya ez zórn lúya ez zórn
ḥa pamraḥór ez ḥiwádri ez ḥiwádri
ḥa qérri ez vághanri
ḥa zátazsum ez ḥúvaz
so there is this silly song about a fish and a crayfish dancing together (tancovala ryba s rakom) that got popular on tiktok and that i cant get out of my head so i adapted it for sorkish because why not. i dont have the slightest idea where this song is from but since it sounds like some folk song or poem, i incorporated common stuff from everyday life in sorka
literal translation:
danced
a fish with a lobster, a fish with a lobster
and a date palm with reeds, with reeds
and sands with winds
and this sedentary with a nomad
edit: accidentally wrote "siyélistan" instead of "siyélistal" in the script. which is funny because siyélistan means "it doesn't dance" which is the exact opposite of what's happening
#ryba s rakom 2025 incident#its in ukrainian afaik so good luck figuring out wtf im on unless youre slavic#sorkish conlang#conlanging#translation#conlang#kélas#constructed language#sorkish script

finally decided to make the fucked up orthography for chytari in the sorkish script. the upper pronunciation is chytari, the bottom is how a sorkish person would read it in the seqhanzat standard pronunciation, in other words it reflects the original value of the glyphs (+ some minor allophony).
there are no glyphs for post-alveolars so you have to make do somehow. in varieties in sorkish that have them, representing them is fairly simple since its just regular allophony but chytari has no rules for them plus diphthongs complicate things, so you couldnt just use for example the i/y glyph as a palatal mark

anyways its starting to become a problem that most of my dead characters are women with beautiful designs help me
#in my defense a good portion of these dead women were just dead women for character development#but then i started thinking about them more and they started to look cool as fuck#oc: rimha#kélas#my art#oc#original character art#original character#art#oc art#sorkish script

found the first awkward test version of the sorkish script, it looks kinda ass when the glyphs dont connect
here is the script now, unfortunately its not a perfect comparison since the original translation is lost to reworking the conlang (the only thing i know for sure is the same is the title "reyvárë")

Reyvárë Li ğáwes tawireház ḥa ğáwin, san tórvurmulbatan sanzókhi róghuq raróqqur.
[rɘjˈβɑrə lɪ ˈʁɑɰɛs tæɰɪrɜˈhɑz ʕæ ˈʁɑɰɪn sæn ˈtorβʊrmʊlbætæn sɐnˈzoxɪ ˈroɣɵq rɐˈrɒqʊr]
rey-várë li ğá-w-es tawir<eh>áz ḥa ğá-w-in san tórv-u-r-mul-ba-tan sanzókh-i rógh-uq raróq-qur
war-art if know-2S>3S enemy.ABS<2S.POSS> and know-2S>2S-REFL then fear-2S>3P-NEC-RFUT-NEG result-PL.ABS hundred-GEN battle-PL.GEN
"The Art of War If you know your enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles."

An unnamed poem by Súyaf Keqár-kay Suhaltán. May be accompanied by lute.
When I saw you for the first time You were the sun You burned like fire You were the wind The wind of the foreign land With pain in your face And with a sword in your hands You became my brother
When I saw you for the second time The sun envied you It envied your flame And the wind sang for you With pain in your eyes And with a scabbard in your hands You are my brother
When I saw you for the last time The sun turned away from you And the wind ceased dancing With anger in your soul And with blood on your hands You will be my brother
