✧˖*°࿐ in which you are a princess and armin is head over heels for you. 

armin was your average librarian (with way above average looks). he was a male with short blonde hair and bangs that reached his eyebrows. his large ocean blue eyes and small pointed nose made up his young boyish features.

ever since he was a child, he had a fascination with the ocean and the world. this curiosity lead to him becoming interested in books. before he knew it, he was in love with the world of reading. it was his getaway from reality. 

the woody earthy smell enveloped armin as he entered the library with a small smile on his face. he made his way over to the counter and looked through the list of books that were borrowed. 

after greeting a few regular visitors, helping some children to look for a book and dusting the shelves, he remembered the large pile of returned books. he sighed before deciding to go organise them back into their spots.

as he slid a book into a shelf, the bell of the library rang, indicating that someone has entered. 

“welcome!” he greeted, eyes moving from the book in his hands and towards the figure at the entrance of the library.

the figure wore a dainty plain coloured dress that fitted her nicely. a few locks of her hair peeked out of the green cloak she was wearing. her fingers pulled down her hood, revealing her face. her reddish lips were slightly open as her dazzling eyes gazed upon the library with such astonishment until it paused at him.

with fluster, the books in armin’s free hand slid out, causing them to fall onto the floor with many thumps. his cheeks reddened in embarrassment and he quickly bent down to pick them up. as he clumsily picked up the books, his and the figure’s hands grazed upon each other. he looked up and felt like his breath was taken away for the second time.

his eyes was met with her e/c orbs.

“oh! here,” she quickly grabbed the book and handed it over to armin who simply nodded as a thanks. she stood up from the ground and patted her hands on her dress.

armin was still speechless.

“this library... it’s very astonishing...wait no! it’s enchanting,” she marvelled, looking around.

“t-thank you,” armin sheepishly thanked. 

the book that armin held caught her sight. 

“i love that book!” she beamed, “the little mermaid was my favourite story when i was a child. well it was one of my favourites but anyways isn’t it romantic how ariel traded her legs for the prince? it was kind of stupid of her to do so but it was still romantic,” she rambled, her eyes gleaming as she did so. armin could only give a small giggle.

“i’m y/n by the way. what about you?” she introduced herself, reaching a hand out to the male. armin’s eyes darted towards her and her hand.

‘y/n? that name sounds...familiar,’

“armin arlert. i take care of the library,” he introduced himself, shaking her smaller hands.

you gave him a smile, “nice to meet you, armin. perhaps you could show me around the library?”

armin nodded almost too enthusiastically. you giggled at the way he almost dropped the books in his hands in excitement.  

as armin continued to give a tour of the library he loved dearly, you asked him a few questions regarding the library and the books. armin admired your interest and how your eyes sparkled whenever you spoke about the books. it was the first time he felt so excited to talk to someone who had the same interest as he did.

“where i live, my library books are all just about history, politics and more lame stuff. whereas here...there’s so much more genres that i can explore! it’s so fascinating,” you gleamed, your hands outstretching as you speak. 

“w-well you can borrow as many books as you want,” spoke armin, fiddling with his fingers.

your eyes grew wider, “really? thank you so much armin!”

after picking up a few interesting looking books, you gazed at the clock on the wall and gasped. 

“oh my, i have to go back soon. but i’ll make sure to come back here tomorrow!” you wore your hood again and gave a thankful smile to armin who returned it.

“i’ll see you tomorrow then,”

the male couldn’t sleep that night. he was spent all night thinking about the beautiful stranger he befriended.

and so, a week passed by. a week of you visiting the library, exchanging conversations with armin about your day or the most random things or about the books you’ve read. 

and a week of armin slowly falling in love with you.

armin constantly looked at the clock, feet tapping against the wooden floor. once he heard the bell ring, a delighted smile made its way on his lips. 

“hi armin! i finished the book you recommended to me yesterday. i didn’t expect the plot twist at all. jane’s character development was something else. this might be one of my favourite books now. oh! not to mention the part where mark-” your cheeks turned pink, feeling embarrassed that you were rambling for too long.

“i-uh sorry for rambling. but i really loved the book!” 

“it’s fine. i like listening to your rambling,” armin chuckled. and he wasn’t lying. he really did like listening to your rambling. something about the way your eyes would light up, the way your hands would move animatedly as you spoke and the little sound effects you’d make to add depth into your story was all utterly adorable to him. 

you placed your elbow onto the counter and leaned against your palm, letting out a sigh,

“i wish i could stay here the whole day. this library...is the only place i can escape reality. it’s so calm and comforting,”

armin nodded to your words, agreeing. before he could speak you stood up straight again.

“well, i’ll be searching for more books now,” you did a twirl and excitedly skipped towards the many rows of books, humming delightfully.

armin looked at you with such fondness with his eyes that he didn’t even hear the bell ring.

“could that be the lady you are so in love with?” startled, armin let out a squeal, dropping the pen he had in his hand. his cheeks flushed red as he picked it up.

“e-eren, mikasa, when did you guys come?” he squeaked, hiding his reddened face behind a book.

“just now. but you were too busy staring at the girl,” the pale black haired female responded.

“soooo aren’t you going to introduce us to her?” eren raised a brow, staring at the female who was looking through the books on the shelves.

“fine,” 

as you were reading the blurb of a book, you felt a tap on your shoulder. you turned your head around, greeted with armin and two figures behind him. at the sight of your face, eren gasped loudly,

“p-princess y/n?” 

armin’s eyes nearly bulged out of its sockets.

that explained why you had such a short curfew. why you always wore the green cape. why you were very cautious and why you had this some sort of royal elegance radiating from you.

eren and mikasa had their heads bowed, startled, armin followed suit before jumping to his feet.

“oh my goodness forgive me! i didn’t know that you were a princess y-your majesty,” armin fretted, bowing once again. 

the tips of your ears grew pink in embarrassment and you ushered armin to stand straight.

“i’m sorry for not telling you...this is the only place where i really feel like myself you know? and you...you’re my first friend outside of the castle. i didn’t want you to treat me like i’m...a royal,” you apologised, fiddling with your fingers.

“it’s alright. i should’ve known you were royalty when you introduced yourself, your highness,”

you gave out a laugh, “you don’t have to call me your highness. that counts for the two of you too. y/n is fine. anyways, you were introducing me to your friends?”

"this is eren,” armin introduced a brunette male who was the opposite of armin. he had a more mature face, accompanied with a muscular build. his brunette hair reached past his ears and down onto his neck. he was quite attractive.

“and she is mikasa,” the pale skinned woman with enchanting grey eyes and short black hair simply nodded at you.

“nice to meet you, y/n.” eren stepped forward and took your hand, kissing it lightly. he straightened his back, “armin has told us a lot about you,”

a rosy pink covered his cheeks and nose.

you simple giggled, raising a brow to armin, “oh really?”

"you shouldn’t tease him eren,” scolded the female.

your eyes glanced at the clock, realising it was your curfew. 

“it was nice meeting you, eren and mikasa. i hope we can meet again! i have to go soon,” you placed your hood back on and before you stepped out the library, you turned your heel, waving the book in your hand, “i’ll be borrowing this book! thanks armin,”

“so, whats your plan on charming the princess?”

hundreds of questions ran through armin’s mind. he was worried that your parents had discovered that you were sneaking out of the caslte when you weren’t supposed to. asides from feeling worried, he felt gloomy. gloomy that your bright and cheerful presence wasn’t here to make his day better.

“what am i thinking? she probably won’t visit the library ever again...i should’ve told her i liked her...no...she probably doesn’t even like me that way. besides, a princess like her...deserves someone whose worth more than a librarian.” muttered the boy to himself as he dusted the shelves.

the bell rang.

“welcome,” he greeted, already knowing that the person he was looking forward to wasn’t the one standing by the door.

well, that was what he thought. 

the blonde male turned around and to his surprise you were there. you had a smile on your face, your upper body leaning towards him. the close proximity startled the poor boy, making him fall onto the floor.

his mumbled an ow as you chuckled, a hand reaching out to help him out from the ground. 

“w-where did you go? did your parents find out? are you okay?” blurted armin, his doe eyes blinking rapidly.

“i’m fine armin. sorry for not visiting the library for the past few days. something important came up,” you explained. 

armin gave a sigh of relief, knowing that you weren’t in any sort of trouble.

“speaking of the something important...princess historia, my sister, is hosting a ball tomorrow as it’s her birthday. i was wondering if you’d like to come? oh and eren and mikasa too!” 

armin’s mouth flew open.

“y-you don’t have to force yourself to come. i just thought that it would be nice if-”

“i’d be delighted to come,” he sputtered.

your eyes twinkled and you could barely hold your excitement. you placed your hands onto armin’s shoulders,“oh my goodness thank you! i was worried for a second that you didn’t want to come. i could show you around the royal library! and introduce you to my cat. oh! i could introduce you to jean, connie, sasha and ymir too! that would be so much fun and-”

armin’s head tilted at your pause.

embarrassed that you were rambling once again you let go of his shoulders, “s-sorry. i got carried away again,”

“it’s alright, y/n. i’d love to finally see the castle,” 

“i’m sorry but i have to go back early. historia wants opinions for her dress tomorrow...make sure to be there by 8! and tell the guards that princess y/n personally invited you,” you wore your hood and waved goodbye to armin before skipping away. armin stared at your figure until it disappeared.

his heart was beating rapidly.

“d-did i just get invited to a royal ball?”

“woah look at the ball room! it’s so...huge. and there, isn’t that captain levi? and erwin smith? holy crap!” eren loudly whispered to erenn and mikasa, pointing at a tall blonde male who was stand next to a shorter yet intimidating looking male.

but eren was right. the ball room was huge. royal and exquisite.

the walls were white, with sparkling chandeliers hanging down from it. there were carvings on the walls which resembled beautiful flowers and greek gods and goddesses. 

armin could only feel anxious.

“where’s y/n? shouldn’t she be here?” wondered mikasa, adjusting the red scarf around her neck. armin looked around the ball room, eyes searching for you.

“there you guys are! i was looking everywhere for the three of you,” the three heads turned towards you.

armin felt like the air was knocked out of his lungs. this was the first time that he saw you truly dress like a princess.

you were wearing a dazzling simple ball gown that ended right at your ankles. the colour complimented your skin beautifully. your shoulder and collarbones were on full display. not to mention your hair, was let loose with slight waves at the end. your makeup was fairly simple, making your gorgeous features more prominent. the silver tiara that laid on your head pulled together the look. 

“h-hello?” you waved your hands in front of the trio.

“y/n, thank you for inviting us,” mikasa thanked, giving you a gracious bow.

“thank you, princess,” eren followed mikasa and bowed, winking at you. your cheeks turned the slightest shade of pink.

before eren could say more, mikasa had dragged him away, leaving you and armin alone. 

“you-” the both of you spoke at the same time. 

“you go first,”

you chuckled before speaking, “you look nice,”

and of course, you weren’t lying. instead of the messy blonde bangs armin usually had, it was slicked back (except for a few strands that stuck out). his undercut was even more prominent than before. he wore a dark blue attire which complimented his bright blue eyes nicely.

“you too, y/n,” a blush seared through his milky cheeks. 

“come on, i’ll give you a tour of the castle!” you grabbed armin’s wrist, thrilled to show him around the castle. especially the library.

once you were done showcasing armin the castle and the library, and introducing to him your close friends, the two of you ended up in the balcony of the ballroom. the music from the orchestra played while the two of you leaned against the railing of the balcony, looking into the dark and starry night.

“this has been the most fun i’ve had in a while,” you breathed.

armin turned his head to observe you. admiring your profile as you looked into the sky. he then turned his attention to the ball room where people were already dancing.

“would you like to dance, y/n?” he asked offering his palm to you. 

“yes, prince armin. it would be an honour,” you teased. you placed your hands on his shoulders while his hands were gently holding your waist. 

with the light from the moon, it made armin more handsome than usual. his eyebrows had a slight furrow as he was concentrated in following your rhythm as you both swayed. his concentration broke off when he accidentally stepped onto your foot.

“i’m so sorry!” he apologised, his cheeks turning red in embarrassment.

you simply laughed at him.

“thank you, armin,”

“for what?” he asked, slightly puzzled.

“for recommending books from the library and for you know...being my friend. when i’m with you, i feel like i can be myself. not a princess nor a royal but me,” you smiled, making armin’s heart skip a beat.

“i should be the one thanking you,”

“m-me?” you tilted your head.

“for making my days better. for being the reason i get excited to wake up in the morning and for teaching me what falling in love is like,” your cheeks were suddenly kissed pink, like a rose. you turned your head to the side to avert armin’s gaze, flustered and shy.

you felt him gently pull you closer by the waist. your chests against one another. you turned to face armin again. the blooming pink colour of his blush was adorable against his milky skin.

you moved a blonde strand of hair away from his forehead, placing a hand on his cheek. with affection reflecting into each others eyes, the two of you slowly closed your eyelids, sharing your first sweet kiss under the moon.

do you have any tips for making high quality gifs? the ones you make always look soooo smooth.

this is very long i’m sorry i ramble, buts its all the things i could think of that could be helpful!! i’m always experimenting with new methods to gif, and these are my tips!!!

Find the most HQ videos possible if not try just try your best. Lately i’ve been fixated on turning 480p videos into 1080p it’s frustrating 0_o

Avisynth/vapoursynth! It resizes and does topaz’s work without killing my computer. Everyone has their own settings for KNLM and finesharp so play around with them. I rec adjusting the settings for the type of video you’re doing bcuz one setting does not fit all (performances, vlogs, magazine shoots are all different in my opinion). I will still use topaz sometimes afterwards if I want to finetune something for detail.

Always check your gif on mobile before posting! It may look good in ps/desktop but tumblr processes things very differently so learn to work around it. Check for graininess (I absolutely hate the patchy squares and it just means that over time when tumblr updates, your gif quality will degrade even faster, I want my gifs to still look good after 4 years!). In addition, almost everyone’s on mobile nowadays, making gifs extra big will make ppl stop and notice your gifs and interact. But that means they’ll also notice your gif quality up close and personal on their hd phone screens and ignore it if it’s laggy or patchy.

For layers, 7 or 8 layers are the same as 20 or 30 layers in the end. Having more layers just makes gifs bigger and harder to process and tumblr eats the quality of bigger gifs (especially over time). I’d also rec keeping layers minimal (no more than 15 or so). Giffing with minimal layers takes practice and knowing your routine (start out with as many to practice as you want, cut down as you go.)

Make blacks blacker and whites whiter (creates good contrast and graininess is less likely to show). Intensify and enhance colors by adding colors in their range (i.e. enhance purples by turning up reds or blues). Play w selective color and hue/saturation.

Tone down or completely eliminate any colors that could directly oppose the dominant colors of your gif (i.e. eliminate any greens in yellow/orange dominant gifs). I also rec avoiding coloring gifs super bright (the neon rainbow trend of 2015 gifs) if it’s not already their natural color from the original source (over time the coloring degrades very very quickly).

Eliminate blues if you can (especially in the background, just turn it to black or white). It’s an absolutely terrible color to make high quality without graininess (next to red) and it’s quality always degrades faster too. In addition, degray gifs bcuz gray gifs have bad quality and patchy squares always show.

After vapoursynth, experiment with sharpening and then adding a layer of gaussian blur or grain (or a mix of both). I don’t prefer a lot of blur bcuz it also succumbs to graininess but it’s good for softening and dithering (I like to use this on vlog type videos or interviews). I also add grain like some film gifmakers and I find that it distributes and dithers color much more nicely and it enhances quality on mobile by 10000%. If you’ve noticed, film gifsets on mobile are super crisp HQ (mostly from 4k dvd rips they’re the cream of the crop) but also bcuz of adding grain to redistribute color. It ensures that their gifs can still be reblogged years after they’re published (I’ve personally noticed that film gifs always outlast every other fandom’s gifs in terms of longevity and quality from experience). Adding grain has the natural detailed quality I like and it helps eliminate the need for tons of layers. It makes 5 or 6 layers possible and my gifs smaller to upload.

In addition, decide if you like the completely smooth, muted look. Lately it’s been rly popular among kpop editors and it’s becoming the standard trend in kpop. I like how it makes things really HQ w/out graininess but I also dislike how it mutes colors with the added layers of selective color and exposure (it’s the gray white cast you see on most HQ kpop gifs now). I think some features and colors lose detail and their overall natural quality from the video. I’ve been experimenting w a style that combines both grain/blur and selective color techniques to make gifs rly HQ but I’m not sure I actually like it yet. I want the original colors to be enhanced w/out losing all the detail.

Finally, in relation to coloring and skintone (because it’s a big part of HQ gifs i believe). I’ve noticed over the past few years some editors solution to unwhitewashing is making idols overwhelmingly yellow or even orange and I dislike it very much. It’s reminiscent of the awful yellow gifs of 2012 tumblr that resulted from the overuse of topaz + it’s kind of racist in the assumption that all asians are yellow (an absolutely wonderful novelty of western colonization and imperialism). Learn to color based on the idol’s actual skin tone and I recommend trying to match actual skintone from unedited fansite photos or my preference is airport videos. Fan photos (not from fansites) are another good place and if you’ve seen them live in person, even better! Unwhitewash and enhance skintone based on this, and also learn the idol’s undertones to help you color. Undertones can be determined based on hair colors they’ve had or drastically avoid all the time (did blonde, blue or green hair make them look gray and drained? it’s probably bcuz they have mostly warm undertones; some idols have a good mix of both so they’ll look good in any hair color). If you noticed on my most recent yukhei gifset, I follow this technique to unwhitewash him in the the original video (which was very gray and whitewashed) . He looks darker, but not overwhelming brown or yellow yellow, and also his warm undertones are emphasized.

this is like... this is basically rocket fuel for my rambling. i want to talk about it so often but i never do because i assume no one would care, so thank you so much for the opportunity. it's going to be long and i'm so sorry in advance, you can fully ignore me - but still thank you for giving me an excuse to write about this.

(I'm including the dates, because they set a telling pattern.)

14.06.2019 - I casually went to see that allegedly nice Elton John biopic with my friend from work. I haven't seen trailers. I didn't care much about Elton John. We had the very best seats in the entire theatre, which I thought was a nice touch. You know, not expecting ANYTHING. The rest is history. I knew I want to re-watch this at the point of Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting sequence. I remember leaving the cinema with my face hurting from smiling (I had this stupid deeply satisfied I-just-fell-in-love grin through the whole movie, probably, with some breaks for deep despair) and telling my friend jokingly: Shit, I need to see it like ten more times before they take it off. I knew NOTHING.

17.06.2019 - I already knew I'm going to re-watch Rocketman very soon, since I wanted to show the film to my best friend. That day was quite hectic at work and I was a little bit feverish, and I felt miserable, and I really didn't want to get back home to be all alone, and by God, I MISSED that movie already. After work I lied to myself a bit that I'm taking different route home just because I missed the bus and I didn't want to wait for the next one - the fact I was going past a small local cinema on my way was a complete accident, of course. I bought my ticket, waited for about an hour; I was one of the very few people attending that screening - just a small group of 20-something girls and two slightly older ladies I think? Trust me, watching Rocketman while breaking a fever?? I felt literally hugged by this film; immersed in it completely, my head hurt and my heart hurt, and it was so lovely. When I admitted at work to my colleagues next day that I've already re-watched it (since someone asked me would I recommend it), one of them went like: Aw, and you didn't tell me? i want to see it so much but my borfriend doesn't want to go with me and I don't have anyone to go with, and I answered by But that's not a problem at all, just tell me when.

20.06.2019 - Thursday after work it was. I remember that friend leaning to my ear during Saturday Night's Alright scene and whispering It is so great, as she apparently fell utterly in love in the same moment. She's seen it three times since and we're discussing it frequently.

22.06.2019 - finally took my best friend to see Rocketman. 25.06.2019 - and she wanted to see it again. 29.06.2019 - and at this point we both just needed to have Rocketman tickets booked to keep us going. 03.07.2019 - needless to say: she loved it too. 08.07.2019 - five times we went together.

Basically what I remember the most from those screenings was:

- the audience got bigger and bigger with every screening.

- people continued to laugh in inappropiate moments. Heterosexual men cursed under their noses at the sex scene sometimes.

- during one of the screenings we bought tickets separatedly and ended up sitting two seats away in the same row. We were hoping no one will fill in those seats and got pissed when we saw someone approaching, but it turned out that was two young gay dudes on a date.  Felt actually fair.

- SO MANY GAY DATES

- speaking of which, I live in Poland, right? Probably not the worst but definitely not the easiet country to be an openly non-heteronormative person. Seeing those dates was so important and comforting, and mattered A LOT. The same goes for audience getting bigger in time - this movie had practically no outdoor advertising, hardly anyone heard about it, and that only could mean that people were actually recommending it back and forth. In the country where the government does nothing to protect LGBTQ+ people from bullies? Heart-fucking-warming, I'm telling you.

- but ALSO. Before one screening I noticed two quite threatening looking blokes walking in. They wore this sort of "patriotic" t-shirts and looked in general like those borderline-nazi subculture festering shits in Poland that always appear to protest any sort of pride/rally and yell about sending f*****s (and all minorities) to gas chambers and other lovely stuff like that. I got actually quite nervous because I half expected them to either start giving us trouble right away, or at least once any kind of gay stuff happens on screen. I had my eye on them through half of the movie, and you know what? THEY WERE ON A DATE. No problems from them whatsoever.

- there was always someone overjoyed upon realizing the jean jacket was an actual item of clothing Elton John once wore. Also people going audibly awww when picture of little Reggie is shown.

- a least a couple of girls gasping so audibly when they see what John Reid is doing in front of the fucking pool boys.

- at some point I took a cab to the theatre and my taxi driver played Elton John for me.

- I was freaking out all the time that this is the time when I'm overdoing it, this is the time I don't really need to watch it again and I'll just get bored. Didn't happen once.

10.07.2019 - I realized they are pulling Rocketman out of the cinemas in my city next day. I was unable to attend the very last screening, so I panic!bought a ticket while I was still at work. Now, as much as watching and discussing Rocketman with friends is fun, I think watching it alone has completely different quality to it and I might've enjoyed those two screenings I saw it alone the most. For me the heart and core of the movie is lonelines -  I think seeing this movie alone at least once is highly recommendable, and in the theatre full of people at that, and not in home. For me it was incredibly powerful experience, especially knowing I'm kind of saying goodbye to it, at least in the theatre quality. Bonus: almost entire row of older ladies dancing in their seats during Crocodile Rock sequence. I cried about that a little.

30.07.2019 - soooo I went for a short vacation to Czech Republic to see my friends and attend music festival. Hardcore punk music festival, mind you.  I tried not to talk about Rocketman too much because my my friends definitely are not Elton John musical type of people, I failed frequently but still I'd like to think I did a good job. After the festival, when I was hanging around Prague with one of my friends - actually the one I consider to be my bestie - he all of the sudden says that maybe we can try to see if they still play Rocketman there. It's not like I haven't checked before going there, right... I tried to protest a little, because I was fairly sure he was offering it only to be a good host, he really wasn't interested. Another thing is: listen, not to sound dramatic but Prague is my Rocketman among the cities. Love of my life. I went once, came back next year, kept going back at least once a year (but generally as often as possible), because I fell in love with it. It's a massive crush. Experiencing those two things together: Prague and Rocketman? Jesus, I can't really start to explain how overwhelmingly wholesome it felt to me. But! I'm getting ahead of myself.

We finally went, me feeling slightly guilty for forcing him in a way. It was a small theatre, very nice and with an old-school feeling: red curtains, red seats, all that.  Not that many people in the audience, but it was also one of the last weeks when Rocketman was being screened in the country, so understandable. 

I tried not to look to my friend's direction, because I was so scared I'll see him suffering through all the musical sequences - or asleep. THEN I've heard a little bit of snickering from his side when they opened a celebratory champagne in Dick's office. I still refused to look. And then, during Amoreena sequence, when they are going through L.A, my friend leaned in to me and whispered: I love it. Long story short, three days later he messaged me on Facebook: I've watched Rocketman three times and Please send me recommendations of Elton John's live videos and you can't convince me this movie is not a drug now. Bonus from that screening: lady who was weeping her eyes out next to me. She sobbed through entire last therapy scene and I just hope she sometimes feel I love her. 

Also, I don't really read subtitles, but I checked a couple of times, and I think Czech subtitles were by far better than Polish ones (there were some ridiculous mistakes in Polish translation).

So here's that. I am truly sorry for rambling like a maniac again, but I'm forever grateful that I could pour that out and re-live it a little bit. Needless to say: I'm also very curious about your experiences and I'd love to read about them if you only have time to share.

i actually got a haircut yesterday before my blackpink concert hehe so now my hair is layered and it goes a little past my shoulders. i didn’t start growing out my hair until late last year since i used to always cut it short (like, a little above my shoulders) so yeah... i used to dye my hair a longgg longggg time ago but now it’s its original color which is dark brown

a solid brown (not totally light, but not too dark) (my mom has really pretty light brown eyes but they didn’t get passed down to me so ahhaha *cries*)

i read a book called “pachinko” by min jin lee over the summer and it was so! freaking! good!!! i highly recommend it everyone~ it’s a historical fiction novel about 3-4 generations of this korean family who lived in korea and then moved to japan. it takes place a little before the korean war and it talks about the discrimination that koreans faced in japan at the time. i recently went to the library to check it out since i wanted to read it again but they didn’t have an english copy of the book so i’m reading it in korean at the moment. 

(17) favorite pastime? 

rewatching and rewatching and rewatching bangtan. oh, and streaming their new album ;) oh, and stressing over the new test questions on the fan cafe that the staff upload every week (i need to level up but the test is so hard... i cry every time) 

and writing for this blog! i originally made this blog to de-stress and write some scenarios and reactions and i didn’t know that people would actually like them and respond to them,,, so hey, thank you :) you make me happy every day

ahhh finally... the question i’ve been waiting for... so if you get to know me, i really really really reallyyyyy love traveling and i’m so grateful for all the opportunities i’ve been given to travel at such a young age. 

so, let me just list all the places i’ve been to (an i know not all of these are countries, or out of the us, but just hear me out,,, okay?) : france, italy, south korea, mexico, us (hawaii, nevada, utah, etc (lol, i can’t remember all of them)) 

my favorite location out of all of these places is definitely italy <3 (italy has my heart)... i stayed at rome and i also visited pompeii and positano (which were absolutely stunning and beautiful). i went to rome last spring (around april/may) and i personally, really love sightseeing and history and since rome is full of those two things i reallyyy enjoyed it there. oh, and don’t even get me started with the food <3333 

i also really loved france... i stayed at paris and my favorite thing about paris was definitely the louvre museum (once again, i love art history) as well as this place called montmarte (ahh! it’s so pretty) 

and last but not least, (as much as i love love loveee south korea) i really enjoyed mexico! i love calming, relaxing vacation spots so i got to go to cancun (twice!) and snorkel and swim and see little fishies in the clear turquoise ocean... yeah, i miss it there... :(

hi il your gifs! can you give a tutorial??

Wow thanks so much! 💖💖Under the read more, I managed to put together a gif tutorial that I (hope) makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions. I rambled a lot in this and wrote most of it at like 1:30 in the morning, so apologies in advance if it gets weird lmao.

Keep in mind, I have been using photoshop for years, but I really have only been making gifs for like, 8 months and I still think I can improve in soooo many ways. But, that being said we all gotta start somewhere!

Let’s make a gif!

Alright, y’all. Let’s make a fucking gif. You will need:

Photoshop. Kind of a given lol. I use Photoshop CC 2018 and I pay 9.99 a month for the photoshop/lightroom package that you can get online from Adobe. I used to use a downloaded version that I found on tumblr for the longest time as well. So if you don’t want to pay monthly, there are free versions out there that work. Just download at your own risk!

A basic knowledge of photoshop. In this tutorial, I’m just gonna assume you have used photoshop before and know how to use its basic features. If not, I’d recommend finding some beginner photoshop tutorials to help you out! Also you can totally feel free to shoot me any questions if you need me to clarify anything, and I’ll do my best to answer them!

Patience and practice. Making gifs can be frustrating and tedious sometimes. If you don’t love what you’re making or aren’t having fun with it, it can be really difficult. I literally love making gifs for some weird reason, which is really the number one reason why I make them. Also, remember that every gif isn’t gonna come out perfect. I make so many gifs and then look back and think ugh that coloring was awful wtf was I thinking?? But it’s important to keep practicing and keep at it because that’s how you’re gonna get better!

Alrightyyyyy let’s get started!

STEP ONE: Download your video. You’re gonna need the video of whatever you’re trying to gif saved to your computer. If you’re giffing a video from youtube/social media or something, there are a bunch of different websites out there that will download videos for you. However, I’m a fucking weirdo and usually just screen record whatever I want to gif because I just think it’s easier. I use Quicktime to screen record which is included on Macs!

We’re gonna be making a gif of my angel rookie Brett Howden for this tutorial. I just screen recorded his postgame video that I wanted to use and saved it in 1080p.

[PRO TIP: Keep in mind, if you want your gifs to look nice and HQ, it starts with a high quality video, and that means, using videos that are 1080p. I very rarely will gif anything in 720p, unless it’s something I really really want to gif, and I def won’t use anything below 720p because it just looks really low quality no matter how much you try to edit it, imo.]

STEP TWO: Open photoshop and go to file -> import -> video frames to layer and this window will pop up

These are the settings I use. I choose selected range only so that it will only select what I want it to, and not the whole video. I also limit to every 2 frames because for the most part, using every frame is unnecessary. See those little toggle icons at the bottom of the screen that I’ve circled in red? Drag those around to select what part of the video you want to gif. Then click ok.

Here’s what you’ll get once you hit ok.

As you can see, your timeline with all your frames are on the bottom. On the right are all the layers!

STEP THREE: Select all the frames, and set your frame delay. The frame delay basically just controls how fast or slow your gif is gonna move.

Select all the frames and click on the bottom of one of the frames (where i’ve awkwardly circled in red) and you should get the dropdown menu shown above. Click other. I almost always choose 0.07 for my delay because it’s not too fast and not too slow and that’s how we want our gifs to look, right? 0.07 is a good starting point and you can always adjust slightly if need be. I wouldn’t recommend going below 0.05 because it’ll look way too fast.  

STEP FOUR: Convert that shit. We’re gonna convert to a video timeline by clicking the button in the lefthand corner of your timeline window. I’ve circled it in red. Make sure all your frames are still selected!

Then we’re gonna convert the layers for smart filters. This makes it easy to edit and color the gif because it’ll basically condense all the layers into one. Select all your layers and go to filter -> convert for smart filters. Bam, converted.

STEP FIVE: Crop and resize your gif!

Tumblr has specific dimension sizes that are pretty important when cropping your gifs, so you’ll have to decide what kind of gifset you’re making. If you’re making a gifset with just one gif across (example), the width needs to be 540px. If you’re making a gifset with two gifs across (example), the width needs to be 268px. The height doesn’t matter and can be whatever ya want!

For this gif of Brett I’m going to be cropping it to 540x270 (my personal standard gif size that I use for gifsets with one gif across). After that, go to image -> image size and adjust the width and height to 540x270.  

After all that crap, we’ve now got a very basic, unedited gif!

This gif looks okaaay, but looks kinda flat and plain and dull. Which brings us to……

STEP FIVE: The most important step, sharpening and coloring.

To sharpen your gif, go to filter -> sharpen -> smart sharpen

I use the same settings as everyone on this website which is this:

Sharpening is so important and it’s literally the best like look at how much better this gif looks already!! But we still gotta color it.

Coloring is a different ballgame than sharpening. Everyone has their own preferences on how to color and what they want their gifs to look like. There’s no right or wrong way to do it imo, as long as you like the way they look! Some people like really bright, vibrant gifs with whites so bright they’ll blind ya, and some like gifs with more muted colors. My personal preference depends on what I’m giffing and the lighting. If you look through my gifs you’ll see that my coloring changes depending on if it’s an on-ice video, a locker room interview or something else.

When I first started making gifs, I downloaded different psds from tumblr, which are basically just colorings you can download and use on your gifs. They’re a really great starting point if you have no idea what you’re doing and also just super convenient. A quick google search “tumblr psds” “tumblr photoshop resources” or even just searching “psds” on tumblr, will give you tons of stuff to choose from.

Anyway, if you’re not gonna use a premade psd, the two biggest settings that I use to color (and as a beginner they’re really the only settings you need to use) are brightness/contrast and selective coloring.

First, we’ll add some contrast. Go to layer -> new adjustment layer -> brightness/contrast. For the most part, my brightness/contrast settings stay the same and look like this:

My contrast almost always is set to 60. I’m all about high contrast in my gifs. My brightness setting is set to 0 in this gif because it’s already bright enough (just look at the light reflecting off Brett’s forehead lmao) Oftentimes I’ll set the brightness to 10 or 11 if the gif seems too dull or dark, but I usually won’t go higher than that. Just play with the setting until it seems right to you!

This is what it looks like now:

Looks good! But it still looks pretty yellow and Brett’s face is still too bright. This is where selective coloring comes in. Selective coloring basically helps you enhance or change specific colors in your gifs. It comes in handy a lot with videos that have shitty or weird lighting (looking at you, Rangers video department). 

Go to layer -> new adjustment layer -> selective coloring. Like I said before, every gif is different so there’s no one specific way to set your selective coloring settings. My biggest thing with selective coloring is making sure the subject doesn’t look too yellow/red and enhancing the darker colors to create more depth/contrast. Play around with the colors until you like what you see!

And this gif is done! Brett looks beautiful and so does this gif. But we have one final step

STEP SIX: Save your gif.

To save your gif go to file -> export -> save for web (legacy) and this window will show up.

For your gif to work on tumblr the file needs to be under 3M otherwise when you post it, your gif will be frozen and won’t move and uh, that’s not ideal. The lower left hand corner will show you how large your gif is. Mine is 2.817M so we’re good.

Finally, please, please PLEASE make sure your looping options (found in the lower righthand corner) are set to forever.

If you don’t have your gif set to loop forever it literally will stop moving, so it’s real important you remember to check that it’s set to loop forever. One time I forgot to do that and now there’s a dumb gifset of Nolan Patrick that only loops once and then freezes and I didn’t notice it until it already got a bunch of notes and it’s just out there on fucking tumblr dot com and it drives me crazy and makes me so mad that I forgot to loop it. So don’t be like me and remember to loop your gifs! lol.

Anyway that’s the tutorial! I hope this helped! Again, sorry it’s so long and full of rambles. Remember you can ask me ANY questions you may have and I’ll do my best to help!

Hi, Ben!  I hope your day is going a bit better than yesterday, despite the financial woes.  I spent a large chunk of yesterday trying to pay a bill a day late (because with everything else going on it just kinda snuck up on me and it was past midnight before I realized I’d forgotten it), only to find out I have to now wait until NEXT month’s bill posts and it will combine them, but at that point I can split it into two payments instead of paying two months at once?  Which is really stupid to me, and I don’t know why it won’t just let me pay now, but oh well.  Can’t do anything about it now.

We seem to maybe be past the worst of the storm?  At least, it hasn’t rained or anything all day so far.  The biggest concern by far has been ice build up, because most of what we got was freezing rain and wintry mix.  I’ve included a lovely collage of some of the sights from my adventures taking out trash and trying to remove the ice from my windshield this morning (I figured since I was already dressed and outside anyway, why not have less to do before work tomorrow?)  It wouldn’t have been so bad if it hadn’t involved draping myself across my still ice-coated car to get the middle of the windshield.  I ended up soaking wet from my ribs to almost my knees (yay for being short.)  Also, I didn’t bother looking for my gloves, but then my nails were actually fairly useful for prying up some of the ice, so.  And I’m really kind of digging masks as a scarf alternative.  All the face and breath protection, none of the accidental choking or not staying in place.  (Scarves are pretty and all, but they’re far better on someone like Isaac, who is tall and slender and elegant.  I am none of those things.  XD )  I’m half tempted to reread The Way I Tend To Be or the last couple chapters of If You Want This Dance to not feel like the only one suffering. XD  Although sadly I do not have access to the more successful warming methods present in either of those fics.  XD

And from the looks of it I got about half the descriptions from the links.  Everything else showed fine, I think it was just because those were longer.  And now I definitely feel like Dichali would not be helpful in the least to this overly serious hunter who shows up trying to muscle in on his territory (whether you’re considering it in the literal, figurative, personal, OR professional sense. ;D )  Especially once he realizes that he’s a hunter (no, it doesnt matter how hot he is. XD )  Will Faron know that he’s a wolf when they meet?  (Or will he be suffering from the far more mundane issue of “how are you both so cute, yet so goddamn annoying?!  Fml.” XD )  Will seeing Faron’s interactions with Nate be what helps him realize his own feelings, or will it be something else?  (How will the presence of a new contender affect the betting pool?  XD )  Also, now curious about the other parent of his twins, too.  (I know, I know, I ask that everytime, but I can’t help it.  There’s always so many possibilities, some of which could come back to haunt them [possibly even literally…])  Is he the wolf that was videoed, or was it someone else?  Does he know who it was if it wasn’t him?  Are either of his kids werewolves (or are they too young to know yet?)  Are wolves only born or only made or both in this universe? Also now wondering if Old Faithful is just like an ancient sleeping dragon or something, instead of a regular geyser.

Also, a question occurred to me, and I really, REALLY hope it doesn’t come across wrong, I REALLY don’t mean it to, but if, theoretically, a person’s scent, to a werewolf, if comprised of both things like pheromones and chemosignals, as well as more, uh, physically based, bodily fluid-type scents, if you will, could a werewolf potentially tell if someone is trans by their scent?  (This mostly came from randomly remembering the scene in Pitch Black where Riddick outs the girl who’s been disguising herself as a boy, and then my brain wouldn’t let it go.  Again, I’m really sorry if it comes across weird or offensive in any way.)  And I also wanted to say that if you’d really rather not post any of this stuff (re: your novel) online, you are more than welcome to just email a reply if you want.  I just tend to send stuff this way out of habit.  :D

Glad you liked the DinLuke idea.  It was mostly inspired by a GIFset of scenes of Din not understanding Jedi stuff in the least.  I just figured he’d never be able to fully believe that Luke could just KNOW nothing was there, and, well, no one is supposed to see his face, right?  And he strikes me as just enough of a himbo to completely forget about covering anything else.  One day I will finally see the show, if only to see how correct some of the impressions I’ve formed actually are.  XD

Also, OMG, the “hunters using an adult shop instead of an outdoors/sporting goods shop” thing is brilliant.  And I was thinking of it in regards to TW, because I feel like there’d likely be some classist issues at play there, too.  Like I feel like the Argents would never think to do something like that (well…maybe Kate…), just because they already HAVE all those stockpiles and connections to military-esque supplies, and there’s a certain level of dignity they tend to reinforce (the Winchesters ain’t really all that proud, for all their infamy.)  But then, say, when Noah starts helping Chris with investigating stuff, he’s thinking of all the stuff he’s heard over the years from the vice cops about what they’ve found and seen, and some of the stuff he’s seen on DV calls that turned out to just be neighbors misunderstanding what they were hearing, (and maybe one or two sneaky trips to an out-of-county shop so that he could attempt to be more prepared once Stiles was old enough to start asking questions because he knew it’d probably get weird), so when he decides to stock up on some equipment of his own that’s where he goes, because it’s high quality, specifically designed for what they need, and likely far more affordable.  And the first time Chris sees some of it he thinks it’s both brilliant and kinda hot (and he can’t decide if he wants to know what some of this stuff is actually intended for or not.  Noah is totally willing to help him learn if he’d like. ;D )

Okay, I will email you some stuff since I don’t want to share too much info on Tumblr, but I def want to share a few things.

As for how I’m doing, it’s going okay today. I feel like I accomplished some things with my characters even though I wrote little, but the story and world is a lot clearer and lively in my head. And I know how I want to start this story now.

Physically, I could be better. I got little done physically, and I def had a few moments where I just laid on my couch and couldn’t move. My chessboard has a lot of dark pieces moving to the middle today. It’s a metaphor I have in my house, an actual mini chessboard on my coffee table, where I am the chessboard. The dark pieces are my dark thoughts, and the light pieces are my happy thoughts.

Some days, white moves forward the most. Some days black has the upper hand. But whatever day I have, I am never just the pieces; I am the board and I am the one constant dealing with those pieces. But they are just there, there are never me. Good or bad, they are just pieces. Having the physical element in my home reminds me of that.

Sorry, I went off on a tangent there.

And I definitely get the short problem when having to clean cars, or wearing scarfs. Although I think I pull my green one off relatively well. (I am 5′4 though, so anything long becomes a choking hazard)

The ice is pretty and dangerous though; I guess that’s its duality. But it sucks that everything is so slippery, hope that clears up soon. I think it’s slowly thawing here, so hopefully, my groceries can be delivered properly today. Fingers crossed.

Hope work tomorrow also goes well. Please be careful on the road?

Yeah honestly, I thought that idea was quite brilliant and I kinda feel like putting it in the first draft as well. Though it could definitely work for a lot of TW fics too!

Oh my gosh you've probably watched all the shows I like haha! Did you ever watch Chasing Life or Kyle XY? Those were soooo good. ABC Family cancelled them without any resolution but it's to be expected with that network at this point. What have been your top 10 SKAM moments over all 4 seasons so far? :)

I started watching Chasing Life but I dropped it 5 episodes into ir or something? To be honest, I had forgotten about it! I was liking it, it was alright, so maybe I’ll finish it this summer? (even though I already know what happenes… yikes). I’ve never seen Kyle XY, though. I’ve only heard cool things about it so definitely trying it out soon.

I recommend you The Fosters. It’s a family drama so sometimes it’s a bit over the top… But it’s one of the best shows in terms of representation and it deals with a lot of social issues. It gets a bit predictive at times but it never fails to warm my heart so… I think you’d like it.

Okay, here we go with my top 10 Skam moments IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER (adjust your belt, dear!).

1. “Your opinion meant more than my own. That’s not how it should be”. But not just that moment, the whole conversation between Eva and Jonas in 1x11 is absolutely beautiful and down to eart.

2. O Helga Natt. What can I say about one of the best moments in tv history?

3. Vilde and Noora and the whole “potatoes are good for you” thing in 2x11. I think we got to see the purest side of Vilde, and I don’t want to let go of that part of her.

4. Noora singing to William. I know I’m always saying Noorhelm breaking up is the best thing that could happen to Noora (because damn, William never deserved her) but the way William’s look got serious and intense looking at her when she started singing More Than Words… Wow.

5. Sana and Yousef moments in ‘Det beste fra Islam’. The intensity and beutiful cinematography of that clip still give me goosebumps. Plus, the conversation about religion is something I definitely hadn’t seen before on tv.

6. Minutt for Minutt. I think this is the clip where you can see how amazing Tarjei and Henrik are as actors. The connection between them is mesmerizing there (plus, one of the kisses Isak gives Even there is probably my favorite one).

7. The article Noora wrote for Norweigan Constitution Day that Eva read out loud to the girls (2x10 I think). I thought it was simple but so beautiful.

8. Sana and Elias moment and conversation in Humble. I definitely have a soft spot for these two.

9. Isak coming out to Jonas. I think this is the scene I’ve rewatched the most out of every single one of them. It always makes me smile.

10. Two scenes here: Noora x Sana (2x08) and Isak x Sana (3x08). “War doesn’t start with violence. It starts with misunderstandings and prejudice” / “Hate doesn’t come from religion. It comes from fear”. Do I love Sana with all my heart? Yup, you could say that.

(+1. Magnus talking about his mom’s bipolar disorder to Isak – and Jonas. It still suprises me how cool Magnus was about the whole thing, I think it was such a smart move from Julie to give us that)

(+2. All Eskild x Isak moments. One of the things I miss the most is this relationship and how protective Eskild felt over Isak)
