The sad thing about 'walkable city' discourse is that making cities more open to people who walk or use public transport is, in and of itself, actually pretty good. It's just that unfortunately there's a significant overlap between people (online at least) who seriously focus on that issue and people who have turned hating cars into a facet of their personality, and members of the later group are predictably some of the most out of touch and condescending people you will ever meet.
