Will sov!Damara keep her speaking quirk?

Idk why but I think it would be really funny if a character just talked another language and nobody acknowledged it.

The only thing that made it awful in the comics its cause hussie just used the japonese so he could make damara say gross shit.

Fun Fact: Damara is capable of speaking English even in the text of Homestuck canon. She's just doing that to be deliberately obtuse and spiteful towards people who have hurt her.

In Sovereignstuck, we will not see her speaking Japanese nearly as often. She doesn't have much need to, not around The Players at least. They haven't done anything to warrant the Deliberate Obtuseness. Plus, a couple of them speak Japanese anyways, so... It's a little less obtuse when there's two guys there that are already fluent, lol. Also, it'll be... As close to legit Japanese as I can get. I'm not fluent or anything, but I'm pretty okay at it. A novice, if you will. I am rusty, though. Working on it. Anything's better than the Google Translate garbage that she's puking up in canon, though. You can see how bad it is even if you don't speak it at all, it's fucking nuts.

100 DAYS UNTIL SOVEREIGNSTUCK SPRITE SHOWCASE!!

It makes me really happy to say that today I'll be showing off some of the Patron sprites!! I honestly really like how they came out, so I hope you guys like them too!!

Here we have a trio that really shouldn't be in the same image together!! Though Rufioh may be the root of all problems here, that doesn't mean Horuss and Damara hold no resentment for each other. Please separate them!! From left to right, we have...

HORUSS ZAHHAK // caballineToxophilite A Page of Void and tortured artist who deeply lacks a sense of personal identity. This struggle has left him a deeply tired, angry person, confused about what his place in this world is. Though he is something of a Renaissance Man, he finds that his expansive abilities only add to his internal strife. A true jack of all trades, and yet nothing defines him. He feels nothing makes his work his own.

RUFIOH NITRAM // animatedTroublemaker A mischievous Rogue of Breath who's found himself in quite the conundrum after being dragged back in the game again. Having ran away from the problems he's caused without warning for a year, those he's abandoned have quite the bone to pick with him. Wholly uninterested in having any further plot relevance, you'll mostly find him doing odd sidequests in random locations. Keep an eye out for him!

DAMARA MEGIDO // amicableAssassin A friendly Witch of Time that's better at holding a grudge than God himself. After her session ended, she moved in with Latula and Mituna, and spent the better part of that year trying to recover... And gained a great appreciation for punk in the process!! She spends her time keeping the timeline of this session from branching too far into a Doomed state, taking her role as a guide in this game really seriously. Will she succeed in her attempts to maintain stability...?

MEENAH PEIXES // causticConqueror A wild child Thief of Life that's here to cause problems and then immediately leave!! Though she's actually working on the "causing problem" part... After the way the last session fell apart, she feels it's apt to treat this new one as a fresh start for her. Old habits die hard, though!! Becoming a better person is both a difficult and nonlinear struggle. God knows this isn't stopping her from some gossip and tomfoolery here and there!! Everyone pray for our girl, she's trying her best.

ARANEA SERKET // athenianGlossographer A Sylph of Light that has much she'd like to tell you!! No one's taking the new session better than her- though she does miss working at the library, she gets plenty of fuel for writing from her time spent in the game, surrounded by new people, new places, new experiences, and new things to analyze!! Though treated as a doormat by her peers in her own session, she's been working on her assertiveness to assure that she's heard!!

I’m really glad you like what I did with her design! I wanted to have a mix of traditional and modern Japanese clothing styles, while still looking like something someone would actually wear- and be practical for her lifestyle and backstory. She’s very athletic! People ignore this often. So, her clothes are very freeing and easy to move around in.

The tabi sneakers are probably my favorite part. I saw them while poking around Google, and they were just perfect to me. They’re apparently a lot more comfortable and easier to run around and trek in than most sneakers, due to their flexibility! Perfect for a woman running around in the trees!

I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT CANADIA AND NEO JAPAN

You're in luck!! I'd quite like to talk about Canadia and Neo Japan!! Thank you very much for asking about that!!

I really cant think of a smooth transition into talking about this, so we're just going to dive right in...

Content Warning: Long, Discussions of Late Stage Capitalism and Orientalism.

CANADIA:

Canadia is, put bluntly, an icy cyberpunk hellscape. It's known for being just about the only country in the world to very strictly follow Capitalism... And it's not in a very good state because of it. It's in an extreme form of the Late Stages, to the point of it being beyond parody. Corporations run the country, monopolies are rampant and unchecked, you can't even look up at the sky without being advertised to. It's miserable there, whether you live in a major city or not. Surveillance is rampant. Everything is a commodity. God forbid you want to go to a doctor for something. It's the perfect breeding grounds for either extreme paranoia or complete desensitization.

None of this is to say everyone's subservient in it. Not everyone's been broken into allowing themselves to be cogs of the machine- there are fighters out there who want to take the system down, one battle at a time. Maybe their revolution will work one day...

This is where Mituna is from. It explains a lot.

It's largely populated by Trolls. A startling amount of the population has started to partake in a political movement called Alternian Traditionalism as a means to cope with their oppressive environment. This isn't a healthy or effective way dealing with the problem, though, because it actually doesn't address any of the real issues, and wouldn't solve a damn thing. If the Alternian Traditionalists have their way, the country will get much, much worse...

NEO JAPAN:

Neo Japan is... Incredibly normal. In fact, one could even say that it's literally just regular Japan, except everyone acts like it's this strange, mystical place 25 years ahead of the technological curve, yet 2,500 years behind the cultural curve. Many people who aren't from Neo Japan practically worship the place blindly, not realizing that what they're praising is a heavily fictionalized version of a real place that real people live in. To many, it's a pure spectacle. An exotic experience to be had. A tourist location, full of fake people with perfect lives. It's as if the entire nation is defined by what can be put in advertisements and postcards. So... Again, one could even say that it's literally just regular Japan.

This is where Retris is from. Specifically Old Capital, which you may know as Kyoto. He lives in Kyoto City. This has given him an immense disdain for tourists/foreigners. He doesn't mind if you're respectful, though. He's just had his home treated as a circus enough times to get weary and wary. Damara, meanwhile, is from New Capital, which you may know as Tokyo. Though she has the same experience as Retris does regarding people treating her home as a circus, she hasn't had nearly as long of an exposure to that behavior, so she doesn't hold much opinion of it all. She ran away into the woods too soon to start really caring about it.

It's largely populated by Carapacians. I'd say the only "strange" thing they partake in is Traditional Battleground LARPing, which are entirely normal, save for the fact that a good majority of them involve real weapons, real battles, and real life-or-death stakes. Some of them are "Death-Free", though that's usually a fact that is remarked upon... Meaning, it's not the average set up. It's a cultural difference. Some people find it barbaric, but their attitude towards death just is not the same as it is in other societies. And that's fine.

If it’s not spoiling too much to ask: what is Damara and Horuss’ relationship like in Sovereignstuck? Do they even interact with each other?

They are not very fond of each other. Due to their... Unfortunately concurrent relationship with Rufioh, and their overall personalities... Yeah, no, match made in Hell. They aren't friends. Getting them to collaborate would be like trying to pull teeth.

Horuss is a very angry and aggressive person. He isn't pleasant to be around sometimes. He had his well of opinion on Damara thoroughly poisoned by Rufioh- and, being an insanely stubborn person, he isn't exactly going to let that go anytime soon, even if Rufioh did abandon them both in the wake of the Patron Session's end. Damara, likewise, is also a very angry person... Towards people who she feels have hurt or wronged her. Horuss is on that list. She holds a very, very mean grudge. If you've given her trauma, she's holding that rage until she dies and then some. Forgiveness is not happening, especially considering how much of a key player he was in her mental ruination.

As far as interactions go... They're both trapped in the game alongside everyone else, so being in each other's vicinity is inevitable. How they handle that is for time to tell.

I'm curious how Horrus and Rufiohs "relationship" plays in to SovereignStuck, like do they break up?? are they still together?? is Rufioh still bad at communicating?? is Horrus still terrible at listening?? Their relationship is so fucked up, but I'm endlessly fascinated by it

After the Patron's Session ended, Rufioh fell off the face of the Earth. He saw the opportunity to get the hell away from everyone and be free... And he took it, completely abandoning all of his previous connections in the process. This includes Horuss and Damara. He was having a great, mostly guilt-free time with it... Until he got forcefully dragged into the Player Session about a year later, thus forcing him to deal with the consequences of his own reckless behavior… Lol.

So, yeah, Rufioh is still terrible at communication, and their relationship is technically over because he literally ghosted Horuss for a whole year without any warning. Both him and Damara are pissed at that man.

My feelings about canon Damara are... Complicated, to say the least... She's one of the most interesting Alpha Trolls hands down, but also one of the worst portrayals of the bunch. It sucks.
