PCM1840 Quad Input Microphone I2S ADC with Hardware Pin Configuration 🔊🎤🛠️

We looked up this chip in 2021, right before we got smacked with a chip shortage and couldn't get any to prototype with - but we're back in biz and respinning a prototype up. While looking up the TLV320ADC quad microphone I2S ADC, we also bumped into the PCM1840. These chips are similar (almost identical pinout) but have analog-only inputs and no I2C or SPI configuration. Yep, it's completely hardware pin bootstrapped, which makes setup much easier because you can use any I2S driver. It can act as an I2S controller (it clocks all I2S pins out) or the I2S peripheral (I2S clocks input and data is output). We whipped together a breakout to figure out how to get TDM I2S input working without dealing with the I2C setup. Looks awesome for spatial audio algorithms and voice recognition projects. Apple's AirPods Max

As a longtime Apple enthusiast, I've had my eyes on the AirPods Max ever since their release. Apple markets them as "The ultimate over-ear listening experience," and after using them, I have to say—I completely agree. Having already enjoyed the AirPods Pro, I was eager to see what the Max could offer, and they did not disappoint.

Why did I wait so long to get them? Timing. When the AirPods Max first launched, they came with a Lightning cable, and while it worked perfectly with my then-current iPhone 14 Pro Max, I knew a shift was coming. With Apple gradually transitioning its devices to USB-C, I held off until the inevitable upgrade. Now, with my iPhone 16 Pro in hand (also USB-C), the stars finally aligned, and I decided it was time to invest in these fantastic headphones.

I opted for the Midnight color, and they’re stunning. The deep, sophisticated shade feels premium, and the build quality is everything you’d expect from Apple solid, sleek, and luxurious.

But let's talk functionality. I've wanted a pair of decent active noise-canceling headphones for years. The AirPods Pro were impressive, but there’s something about the over-ear design of the AirPods Max that takes noise cancellation to a new level. With these, I can genuinely block out the world—perfect for when I want to focus on writing, immerse myself in music, or simply enjoy a moment of silence.

The sound quality is equally impressive, with spatial audio adding an immersive touch that makes music, podcasts, and even gaming feel incredibly dynamic. Whether I’m jamming to 80s classics or relaxing with instrumental playlists, the audio fidelity is unmatched.
