SPEARMASTER ENJYOER HERE WAHKJGDSJDAJHS UR COMICS ARE SO GOOD!!!!
Curious................what happened to spearmasters parents/how does suns know them? And also why did suns remove spears mouth?!
Suns used to often direct creatures to their can to help them! As insufferable as they are, they did do good. Even if it was a way to cope and feel better with what they have been made to do by their colony before it all ascended.
Those two slugcats are critters that have passed by before and it’s why when their child is sickly and needs aid, they come to Suns!
Also Suns removes Spearmaster’s mouth, because it’s a good design choice for a messenger! I think it’s very underappreciated how well they modified the little guy. A mouth would risk the pearls getting lost on the way! It being inside them helps with both that issue and, according to Suns, gives them a sense of purpose.
Of course to make up for the lack of vocalization, they were taught sign language so that they could still express themselves and be communicated to. Suns expressed that they did care about understanding this creature, they didn’t want communication to be one way. I find it really charming if SRS ended up being very surprised with just how smart this slug cat turned out to be. I know I am! This thing can write! SM writes “Hunter” in one of their sleeping doodles iirc.
SM also marks a shelter for messengers or other creatures that come after it in Pebbles’ underhang.

ONE MILLION SLUGCATS..!!
notes under the read more
- artificer:
largely wanted some sort of tabby cat pattern that follows along their ribs and spine and darkens at their extremities, like they've been singed. i think their fur is also in very bad condition and coated in a mixture of fire powder and blood. yuck! by the end of artificer's campaign (if it's the ending where they kill the king scavenger), i'd imagine they'd be even darker in colour and sporting a bunch more poorly-healed scars
- spearmaster:
not furry, just covered in a fine layer of.. various quills and spines and whiskers? very weaselly
- hunter:
pulled from the luzon bleeding-heart dove for the big patch of red fur on their chest.. i feel like it's kind of a nice nod towards how the "core" of hunter long legs is darker than the rest of it, too. otherwise they're coloured kind of like a fox, and their fur is patchy because they keep overgrooming it due to stress and the rot cysts
- gourmand:
their flower is from outer expanse!! they were patterned different in my first draft but i ended up redoing it to make them look more like survivor and monk (since they're from the same colony)
- survivor:
the scars are largely from their rough fall into outskirts and it results in some struggles with mobility.. they didn't heal particularly well. otherwise is the most standard slugcat in the whole wide world
- monk:
little guy. always has a karma flower with them, i think. also super standard but in a smaller way (runt of the litter?)
- rivulet:
kind of patterned like a river otter.. catfish whiskers as well ::]
- saint:
has reverse point colouration, making their extremities and snout fade to white.. i think it's a nice fit with the fact that everything is miserable and cold in their campaign, haha. the scar(?) on their chest is sort of like their physical form splitting at the seams, and the diamonds are meant to be like the paneling on echoes?
- enot:
The Grinner
- nightcat:
wanted them to feature very little hard angles or edges in contrast to enot, who i tried to make more angular.. their spines(?) also swoop under, instead of over

Outskirts in Survivor/Monk:
A nice place to get your bearings and learn how to survive. Food is easy to come by, but as your resources dwindle you’ll move around the map and gradually discover more locations. Predators, while present are easy to maneuver around and teach you how to deal with threats.
Outskirts in literally any other campaign:

Starting off the new year with I think the most background heavy piece I've ever made!
I think Rainwings and Nightwings would celebrate their traditional holidays together after the events of The brightest night. So this drawing is meant to show their cultures kind of blending together during a very joyful time.
I remember talking about this concept with someone on tumblr a year ago but when I went back through my posts I couldn't for the life of me find it - so if your reading this, I remember you and this drawing stems from that conversation so thank you!

…Spearmaster learning what uppies are?
SM nearly had an entire spiral not understanding what the sluppy wanted but luckily the baby took things into their own grippers.
SM definitely knows what to do next time when there's insistent grabbies in their face.
