Aloitteleville kirjoittajille suunnattu, TSFS:n, Tutkan ja Stk:n järjestämä tieteis- ja fantasianovellien kirjoituskilpailu Nova 2023 on käynnistynyt!

Kilpailun deadline on tiistaina 28.2.2023 klo 23:59. Novellit tulee kirjoittaa suomeksi. Aihe on vapaa, kunhan se liittyy science fictioniin tai fantasiaan. Kisaan voi osallistua useammalla novellilla.

Tekstit, joiden maksimipituus on 45 000 merkkiä välilyönteineen (noin 20 sivua), lähetetään viimeistään 28.2.2023 osoitteeseen novakilpailu (at) gmail (piste) com. Sähköpostin otsikoksi nimimerkki sekä novellin nimi, viestin leipätekstiin osallistujan nimi ja yhteystiedot, ja novelli sähköpostin liitteeksi rtf-tiedostona muodossa novellin nimi_nimimerkki.rtf. Novan sivuilta löytyvät viralliset säännöt ja FAQ-osio kannattaa lukea läpi, sillä esiraati tai tuomaristo voi hylätä sääntöjenvastaisen novellin.

Nova 2023:n tuomaristoon kuuluvat kirjailija Milka Hakkarainen, kirjailija Camilla Kantola, kriitikko ja luovan kirjoittamisen opettaja Teemu Korpijärvi, Spin-aktiivi ja kustannustoimittaja Anna Mattila, kirjailija Mikko Rauhala ja vuoden 2021 Nova-voittaja ja esikoiskirjailija Mirjami Sirén. Kisassa on esiraati, joka karsii jatkoon pääsevät novellit tuomaristolle. Esiraatiäänet vaikuttavat myös tuomarivaiheessa muodostaen yhden “tuomarin”. Esiraatiin kuuluvat Nita Mäenpää, Juhani Mönkkönen ja Kati Oksanen.

3. what is your favourite genre?

Hmm…. I think I'm going to say spefi. Speculative fiction… I read both fantasy and scifi, but I think what I enjoy most are the stories where the borders become unclear. That might be one reason I like Simak so much, his stories might often be seemingly scifi, but they also have some fantastical elements, so to say. Also, urban fantasy.

7. is there a series/book that got you into reading?

I don't remember it myself, but once when I was sick I had to spend some time alone at home, and dad had bought me the first book in Enid Blyton's Famous Five series to read. XD I did not take long with it. Later he took me to the library, and apparently my astonishment was great when I saw the shelf with all Blyton's books. For a good while, I always made beeline to that shelf, but I did work my way through it quite soon. Luckily there were so many other shelves to explore, too. ^^ I did move on to fantasy pretty soon after my Blyton phase was over.

11. what non-fiction books do you like if any?

I should read more non-fiction. Honestly… I own so many books (that I've bought during my years in the bookstore). They all seem really intriguing… all that remains is to read them. ^^;; Trickster Makes This World, The Horologicon, a book about Chinese folktales and popular literature, or the one about addresses… I think most non-fiction books I've read are about history, and specifically about Heian age Japan. I got to admit that Sugawara no Michizane and the Early Heian Court was a pleasant surprise, I really enjoyed that one. ^^ Oh, and also some language related ones. David Crystal's Spell It Out was fun.

Peach: "You mean-" Was about to make the gesture again until she realizes she she's doing, and starts blushing hard.

Dante: "Hey, who's that Toad over there in the audience?"

Peach: "That would be Toadsworth...my father in a sense."

Dante: "That explains the glare he's giving you right now."

The simplicity of these bedroom pop recordings and the fantastic use of field recorded loops reminds me of a time where making music felt more "magical". It is making me pretty emotional and inspired. I'll add what his label put as the description because I think it's apt:

Haruki Murakami: 1Q84

Aloitin paksuakin paksumman 1Q84-tiiliskiven (yli 1300 sivua!) lukemisen kesähelteillä spefi- lukupiiriin. Olin ostanut tämän opuksen hyllyäni lämmittämään 2017 Berliinistä. Puoliso sanoi kirjakaupassa, että saan ostaa vain yhden kirjan, joten ostin paksun. Kesällä tuli muita lukukiireitä, mutta päätin ahkeroida 1Q84:sen tammikuussa muiden tiiliskivien seuraksi.
