Sphere within a sphere by Italian artist Arnaldo Pomodoro, at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. If you look within the cracks, you will see another smaller sphere inside, with what looks like the outline of cities on it. . What does it mean? According to the sculptor, the innner sphere is earth and the outer sphere is Christianity. By why is Christianity cracking? That's never been answered. As am atheist, I have my theories... . In any case, it gleams brightly on a sunny summer's day in NYC. The sculptor made more than a dozen of these spheres - each unique but with the same concept. #ArnaldoPomodoro's sculpture at #TrinityCollege in #Dublin was restored in 2008. || Sfera con Sfera (Sphere within Sphere) || (1992) is most similar to the one at the #Vatican which is twice as large. There are many interpretations of its meaning, but the Des Moines Public Art Fund quotes Pomodoro: “In my sculpture, the shape of today’s world contains within itself the form of the ‘ideal city’ as conceived by the artists of the Italian Renaissance.
