💕💜When my purchased Splendid Royal Moth eggs hatched last year about 50% didn't make it through their first molt, but the survivors grew up into big and chubby chonkers. Then they burrowed, except two who chose to pupate on the surface, those two did not emerge though they were heavy till August, a third died earlier on, becoming dedicated somehow. I dreamed of this moment for almost a year, worried they wouldn't emerge together, or there would be no females. But here it was, this is on August 2nd this year, they only two that emerged simultaneously were a viable pair! The last panel reflects my results with this pair. I have no idea why there is such a high morality rate with these guys now how typical that is. If you've raised them please let me know your results! Aside from my art, which she supported, my mom never cared for my interests, being indifferent to some, thinking I've lost my mind for others, and just plain disgusted in my tastes otherwise. 😅 But she was very curious about keeping #Lepidoptera last year she was curious about the #citheroniasplendens so this August as they bred she was on the phone with me asking questions about their mating habits and genitals, I was sending pics in messenger and it was nice to have connected with her where she had a genuine interest in my interests. This was my last conversation with her, 2 days before her passing... technically 3 if the after midnight thing counts. My last phone call with my mom was about insect sex parts, and as silly as that may sound, it's very special to me. So are the citheronia splendens in general.
