Lesser Celandine is Taking Over the World
Lesser Celandine Have you seen a little yellow flower that you think is very cute blooming on your property??? It forms a ground covering mat of glossy green heart shaped leaves punctuated by buttercup like flowers. You might have looked at it and thought it was the first sign of spring! If your answer is yes, get ready to do battle!! This is a really nasty invasive that hails from Europe and…

I hadn't seen Mitella diphylla, or bishop's cap, in a number of years, so I decided to look up on iNaturalist where I could find it in my area. The nearest place to find them was at the university nature preserve, and I was really quite grumpy to have to pay for parking just to go hiking. But as soon as I found the little population of bishop's caps, it was worth it to me. They're so delicate and beautiful.

The annual ballpoint pallanoph in celebration of clinging to this rocky sphere for one more year (despite appearances) was delayed by a few days. Oops! I’m not dead, just growing older.
Art is still hard, but this runs on autopilot sometimes. And sometimes, that’s enough.

Some lovely early spring blooms and plants I've found in recent days! Spring beauty (I think), grape hyacinth, trout lily and I believe cherry. Taken for myself but also for @geopsych scavenger hunt ❤️

It's amazing where native plants will pop up! This Menzies' baby blue eyes (Nemophila menziesii) popped up a few blocks from my apartment in Kerns on the side of the road. I don't know if someone did some guerilla planting or what, but it was a really nice surprise.
