He racked his brain ...

Restored his self-belief

Even words deserve a rest ...

Such a great relief!

They’d always come to help

Bank holiday: What date is May bank holidays 2020?

Most people around the UK would have obtained a calendar or Christmas diary for 2020 – only to find out that one of the main dates was incorrect. That is because the bank holidays 2020 in early May has been moved from its normal place with the intention of commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE Day, the conclusion of World War II in Europe. The date change was announced last June which led to an increase in the incorrect printing of as many as 30 million diaries and calendars, as per a report. Whilst also causing some unwanted trouble from printing firms, moving the date also threatened to cause confusion for many Brits who had already made holiday plans. That, of course, was before all these plans were destroyed by the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent social distancing and lockout rules anyway-here's what you need to know. When is the bank holiday beginning in May 2020? May has two UK bank holidays each year, which fall on the first and last Monday of the month. But, in 2020, the early bank holidays 2020 will be on Friday 8 May – VE Day, instead of occurring on 4 May. It was intended to ensure that the long weekend would overlap with the extended celebrations of the 75th anniversary of Nazi Germany's surrender which ended the Second World War in Europe. More than 20,000 pubs were going to invite customers to toast the war veterans as part of the VE Day commemorations, while churches were due to take part in a Ringing out for Peace gathering. As all other mass meetings and public related activities leaving our homes, however, all public VE Day celebrations have now been cancelled-so it would be important to hold all commemorations indoors. Upon initial announcement of the decision to move the holiday, Sir Andrew Gregory, chief executive of SSAFA, charity of the Armed Forces, stated that it was a "fitting" concept. He stated: "It is our duty to keep the events of the past alive in collective memory, including future generations - this is how we ensure that such a conflict never happens again.” "It is our hope that the nation takes a moment to reflect on the significance of this date, as a milestone that changed the course of history for the whole world," he added. The bank holidays 2020 of May Day was shifted only once before, when it was transferred from 1 May to 8 May 1995 to mark 50th anniversary of VE Day. The later Spring bank holiday may, nevertheless, take place at its usual location, falling on Monday 25 May.
