Chapter 94: Detective Twilight

This was a fun chapter! Detective Conan fans are probably happy with it, right? And we still learned a few things along the way.

Well, we know the kind of dad Twilight is (the kind who yields as soon as he sees his kid cry 😆)...

And we also know what kind of mom is Yor: A mama bear! Honestly, Anya couldn't be in safer hands.

By the way, let me say that Twilight and Yor looked gorgeous throughout the whole chapter, especially in this panel 💕

We got the classic fanfiction "there's only one room left at the hotel" trope 😀

For a second, I thought we were getting the "there's only one bed" trope! But then this happened...

Even though they didn't end up sharing the bed, this was still my favorite panel in the chapter. Why?

First of all, it's very obvious now that Yor has feelings for her husband. She didn't say something like: "I've never shared a room with a man." She was very specific and got all flustered about sharing a room with Loid.

However, what I liked the most about that panel was Twilight's attitude. Look at his face. It's basically this one 😏 But the point of this panel is that it's only the two of them and his words and facial expression say one thing: "I know you."

That's the kind of stuff that makes him a good husband. He pays attention to his wife, what she likes and the things that make her uncomfortable. In that panel, he lightly teases her, but he's also being considerate of her without making a big deal out of it.

Also, I know everyone wants Twilight and Yor to share a bed (me too!!) but I think when it finally happens the waiting will pay off.

Hear me out:

It will probably happen right after they both realize they have feelings for each other but before they confess (for maximum tension😆). Can you imagine the amount of longing? Knowing that the person they're in love with is right there within reach, next to them, sharing a bed, side by side trying not to touch but wanting to touch so badly and both Twilight and Yor dying to kiss (and do other stuff) Come on, you can't beat that!

My advice: patience. It's going to happen at the perfect time in the relationship and in the story. Plus, it has to be a very forced situation AND there has to be no other way (no couch either!).

In the meantime, let's see how Twilight not only blindly trusted Yor, even though, as a spy, he should trust no one and he had reasons to suspect her (because she wasn't in the room AND she's an actual assassin). Even Yor wasn't sure it wasn't her 😂(Probably?)

On top of everything he was incredibly protective of his wife. He didn't even let that man come near her, let alone touch her. YES! That's what we like to see, Twilight 😊

Bonus: Did you notice that as soon as they found the first victim, Twilight's first thought was to protect his daughter? Nice dad instinct, Mr. Spy-dad 😏

the way this kid feels so absolutely unquestionably safe with her mom and dad that she doesn’t even flinch at the idea of a monster because she knows it’d never get to her as long as she is with them.

granted she knows her parents are pretty badass and no one can take them as far as she is concerned. but still. it’s been a while since she has thought “if this happens the forger family will be no more”. it’s just. after being exploited and experimented on by scientists, living in an orphanage, bouncing from multiple families and being rejected by all of them. the sense of security she has with them is so heartwarming.

If we don't get a direct follow-up to this chapter, I'm just going to go ahead and assume that Yor insisted that Loid get some rest once they get home. She did say that she wanted to take care of him towards the end of the mole arc, and she probably knows that he didn't get to sleep last night, so this seems like the perfect opportunity to follow through on that desire once again. Perhaps my assumption will eventually be proven wrong, but I'm going to run with it for now.

Also, I think it would be pretty sweet if she tried to do something nice for him to celebrate the fact that he saved someone's life, but I'm not going to assume that happened if we don't see it happen.

Despite being small, seems super cool to me and lets us see that trust and that homely and natural aura that exists between Yor and Loid.

I think that conversation on the floor they had after the mole mission made Loid whithout notice it have more trust in Yor and he is more relaxed around her

SPY × Family: Chapter 94 analysis unhinged thoughts

hello hello! i am back with my thoughts for the latest chapter! please note that there are spoilers ahead for chapter 94! (Long-ish post incoming?)

Okay, so I loved this chapter. I'm a person who loves locked room murder mystery type stories, so this definitely scratched that itch for me. Obviously, I'm biased.

Analysis (of sorts?):

Right off the bat I can say that this chapter isn't really oriented on emotions or certain character dynamics. It is pretty plot heavy (but. not to the main plot. this chapter in itself has a plot to its own, but I really really liked it).

So the chapter starts with Bondman facing off an enemy in a snowy mountain...

which, of course, inspires Anya to have an adventure of her own. She asks Loid to take her skiing, only to be flatly denied...

BUT! Agent Anya has tricks up her sleeve (threatening to cry), and that works on our dear, super-spy Agent Twilight (he's so weak and stupid y'all.)

he thinks he's soooo cool. he's not.

Anyway, we get Twilight trying to explain skiing to Yor, which... fails, kinda. we also get gymnastics from Yor, (SHE's the cool one), and a half-baked explanation from her about learning all that from a gymnastics teacher.

The Forgers are trapped in a snowy blizzard, which leads them to take refuge in a lodge. They meet a group of young college students, who regale them with a tale of a bloody snowman who kills people in the dark.

Might just be me, but this design reminds me of Type-F from the new Code White movie (note: this isn't exactly a spoiler, I haven't seen the movie, but this is what's on the wiki and in the trailers). The snowy backdrop + this Type-F-esque design might be a homage to the movie? Probably just me, though, haha.

Anyway, onto the main focus of the story (kidding, it's not):

WE COULD'VE HAD IT ALL..... YOR AND LOID SLEEPING ON THE SAME BED.... WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN....

(jk, it probably wouldn't have happened, but a girl can dream)

"Eh, why not?" Certainly, these words CANNOT exist in the vocabulary of THE Agent Twilight! Perhaps.... no, it can't be... he's finally RELAXED for once? Feeling secure enough to ASSESS THE LAYOUT FOR POSSIBLE ESCAPE ROUTES WITH HIS YOUNG DAUGHTER? No... it can't be possible....

(Sorry, I know I'm unfunny. I don't think that'll change)

But, genuinely, this just shows how at ease he is with his wife and daughter. He might not know it yet, but I know it (← somebody whose opinion isn't worth shit).

Finally, onto the main crisis of the story:

the would-be murderer.

There's something to be said about how he jumped into action to save the guy's life, (as one does), BUT. BUT

OHOHOHO. The minute Yor's in danger (see: the man reached out to grab her but Loid just grabbed his hand) he decides to find the killer to prove her innocence. (You know his adage? A spy should never draw attention to themselves.) The minute his WIFE was in danger he resolves to find the killer and prove Yor's innocence their guilt. HMMMMM. Agent Twilight, you ain't slick. I think you momentarily forgot about about your #1 lesson to never draw attention to yourself just to prove Yor's innocence. OHHHHHH. The fanfiction is fanfiction-ing

(I'M SORRY I'LL TRY TO BE FUNNY FROM NOW ON)

To summarize the rest of the chapter: Anya realises with her telepathy that the killer is the lodge owner, and meddles in the investigation to nudge Loid in the right direction, and the police arrive to the lodge to find the incident resolved. Everyone's happy, right?

Not... really.

Anya's excited because, "Wow, I solved a murder! So cool, best trip ever!"

But Yor and Loid aren't that happy. Loid is worried that this kind of meddling will get Anya in danger... and he's more worried that she isn't really grasping the gravity of the situation.

Which. She kind of isn't. A man was almost killed, but she's not showing any signs of shock? Remember, he was this worried even after the hospital visit where she makes a mess of that sand-model thingie, and after the bus hijacking arc, when she's hyped about the Stella, and he tells her that the Stella was "not for the reckless way you defied those hijackers."

Which.... is a lot of character development from the man who was A-OK with leaving her alone in the apartment, to now how he constantly worries about her wellbeing. Growth.

Also, another tidbit:

I feel like this chapter showcases another facet of his personality. Not Agent Twilight's, or Loid's, but [REDACTED]'s.

[REDACTED] always wanted to help. Even in the War Arc, when, in Luwen where he was staying at his great-uncle's house, we can see that he wants to catch fish for his and his family's dinner, while, in the backdrop, children are laughing and playing. It's always been in his character to help, and, hell, it's partly the reason he is who he is today. Agent Twilight wants to think that he left [REDACTED] behind after that fateful bombing in Luwen, but [REDACTED] is hanging around him like a ghost, and some of his character bleeds through the facade that is Agent Twilight, which is masked by the facade that is Loid Forger.

Final thoughts:

Loved the chapter. It's probably just me reading into it too much, but... that scene where he grabs the guy's hand who was trying to tie up Yor. Hm.

This entire chapter might have been a locked-room murder mystery type chapter, but I genuinely think that it showcases how much of an effect this family has had on Agent Twilight. What with taking Anya on a sweep of the premises to look for escape routes, to trying to prove Yor's innocence that definitely betrayed his number 1 rule as a spy... this man is truly so oblivious, I wanna cry.

(Also: did he not stop for a moment to think that him performing first-aid on the victim, or trying to build a radio from scratch OR playing detective to prove his wife's innocence IN FRONT OF A GROUP OF OSTANIAN PEOPLE would raise suspicions? Obviously, it was all overshadowed by the discovery of the would-be killer, but... at least one person had got to have been suspicious of Loid.)

(Also also: He's so weak. One look at her crying face and he's gone.)

Absolutely love that anytime I add an OC to a fic I spend 3 hours on 14 different baby name websites researching a name that sounds like something a human would have meanwhile Endo is somewhere giggling and kicking his feet as he names a college senior Needa Jobsoon.

All the names were so funny in this chapter! I wrote a little explainer for them here:

The jokes behind the college kids' names are all based on them being in college and young:

Max Slacker- Is a huge slacker on assignments/ in college

Adrahma Queen aka 'A drama queen'- refers to how she over reacts or is over emotional to situations. Hence why she is the one crying in fear after learning about the red snowman

Shorton Kreditz aka 'Short on credits'- likely refers to him not having enough college class credits to graduate on time

Needa Jobsoon aka 'Needs a job soon'- She's a college senior that's about to graduate so very plainly needs to get a job after she graduates.

5. Rodger Hostman- A 'host' is another term for a lodge owner. And he's a man. Plus basic first name = character!

6. Spoussa Hostman aka 'Spouse of Hostman'- Her name is her character description here! Wife of the lodge owner is another way to say her name.

7. Guy Luvstakski aka 'Guy that loves to ski'- Just a dude who really enjoys skiing, that's why he's an avid skier.

8. Hack Scriver aka 'Hack scriber' or 'Hack writer'- Someone that makes money off of writing bad and/or fake stories in magazines, which is why he's a tabloid writer.

I don't know why my brain keeps coming back to this when there's so much other great stuff happening in this chapter...

Did he use the WISE skis and coat just to save money, or does WISE have some weird rule that says its agents must use WISE equipment for sports when reasonably possible?

He also used WISE equipment in the tennis arc, but that was for a formal mission

If the pool omake had lasted longer, I half expect it would have been revealed that he was wearing WISE swim trunks as well. If it is a rule, then there's a good chance that the only reason he didn't use WISE snorkeling gear at the beach during the cruise arc was because that was a very spontaneous decision and he didn't have a chance to go get some WISE gear for it.

I suppose he could also have gone this route to try and convince himself that he was really only going on this trip for the mission(?) and not because Anya was about to cry...

Then again, there's a good chance I'm over analyzing this, and Endo just thought it would be funny to put him in WISE ski gear
