Spy X Family: Season 2 Episode 2

Shout out to Damians friends and the teachers at Eden for noticing that there was something wrong with Damian and trying to cheer him up.

Seeing Damian smile and have fun just being a kid makes me so happy!

I just love the difference of whenever Loid, Yor or Anya are alone, it's dark and Grey to represent how it was for them before the big mission brought them all together.

Then fast forward to now where their lives are full of happiness and light, even if it's for the facade that they are a fake family, it's still feels all the more real to them and it's so stinking sweet to see play out

Holy shit, this episode will have silenced the people who complain about spy x family being boring for sure. Not just one of the best spyxfamily episodes, but one of the best episodes of the season. Nonstop action and sakuga from start to finish.

Absolutely amazing direction and choreography during the Yor fights. Loved the shot of the camera panning around as Yor takes on an entire circle of baddies. They went so hard with this one. The fight scene being perfectly synced with the fireworks was awesome as well

I liked the whole moment when Yor realises that she’s basically doing all of this for money as well lol.

Since last week, Yor’s had a little identity crisis, wondering why she does her job and who she’s actually fighting to protect. She finally has her answer and is back with a renewed since of purpose. Can’t wait for the next episode 🙏🏾

The siscon side story was a nice endcap to the episode.

CAL I almost forgot to answer this one hehe VERY GOOD I always find it funny when people play with the whole "Grant and Marco both don't know that the other one kills people" shtick but TELEPATH LINCOLN MAKES IT 1000 TIMES FUNNIER THAT'S SO GOOD (sidenote: man. never watched that one even though I wanted to but at this point there's *so many* animes on that list? Gah.) 😭 It also makes me laugh because Lincoln can't even call out his dads for their lying and bad behavior without EXPOSING HIMSELF AS A TELEPATH and the idea of him specifically struggling with that is *so funny* to me I love that.

“I hope peaceful days like this will continue forever” nah man I need a whole episode of the Forgers just at a beach enjoying life 😩 that was so damn cute and well deserved everything the cruise arc. You can really tell what started out as purely a mission/ business has started to become a genuine family. They all deserve it too.

Why do Yor’s coworkers always gotta be so mean lmao like damn be grateful someone even thought about you enough to bring a souvenir back from vacation. I wouldn’t have got them mfs anything so Yor is way better than me. They’re so jealous and bitter 😂

Back at school, as usual with any Anya scenes, absolutely hilarious. Seeing the kids flex who had the better vacation had me dying. Becky and Damian liven every episode up. Anya might be the biggest capper on the planet. Dunno how she even comes up with this stuff. wtf even is a Octoperson lmao.

And of course ending the ep off with some good old siscon action from Yuri. Episode kinda had everything that makes spy x family so great and was a very fun watch. They’re really cooking this season

How my Saturday evening went:

SpyXFamily: s2 ep5.

Why do I even keep watching it. Everything about the way Yor is written irritates the hell out of me. How can anyone, let alone an assassin be stupid enough not to realize that a women you are sent to protect because all the males in the family were murdered has lost her husband?! *breath in-breath out* Anya-chan is precious and she is the saving grace of this anime, but good lord, her parents. Tasogare is just boring, Yor’s pervert brother is boring AND infuriating. Yor herself - well, I knew I won’t like her from ep1 - is my least favorite thing in the world: a naive and sweet murder machine. I understand the desire to play with opposites, to combine tropes - but it just doesn’t work (yes, it does, it’s one of the top anime for seasons now) - or rather it somehow ticks me personally off in every possible way.

P.S. - I still watch SXF because my husband loves it. And because openings and endings are so great(the latest one is even done my my beloved Masaaki Yuasa!), they keep tricking me into thinking it will get me invested one day.

Then

Kusuria no Hitorigoto: s1 ep5.

My perfect, fantastic, gorgeous child! How can an anime so low on action (and I don’t even mean action as fighting, just plain things happening) be so very engrossing?! I adore the characters, I adore the animation, I adore the funny and the serious - and most of all the ability to dance between the two without sacrificing either drama or comedy.

PS - The point of only pretty women being in danger of r*pe is icky, but I assume that’s not actually what the story intended to say - rather that hiding your natural beauty lessen one’s chances of being assaulted. The very fact the topic is brought up seriously without a shadow of joke means a world to me.

And then

Sousou no Frieren: s1 ep9.

*Mind blown* I thought… I assumed… everyone said it was a QUIET ANIME WHERE YOU JUST WANDER THE LAND AND REMINISCENT ABOUT THE FRIENDS YOU’VE LOST AND SLOWLY LEARN ABOUT YHE WORLD WHY THE HELL AM I LOOKING AT THE BEST ACTION SCENE SINCE THE FINALE OF KINGS RANKING?

And it’s not just that action is great - it is also a great character moment - no! not a moment! - it’s a great character examination. Both our heroes and the devils show off their skill but most importantly they cement the characteristics they were given in prior episodes: Fern and Stark together represent humanity’s ability to use the little time we have on this earth to the fullest potential because humans have so little of it. The pair of demons once again prove what Frieren has said again and again: they can mimic, but they don’t understand. And each character has their own personal story as well. I’ll probably make a separate post about that.

No PS here. Only screams. How can this anime be so pitch perfect? Wow. Woooow. Just wow.
