actually i really do enjoy sprite^2 prototyping as an allegory for realizing that you’re transgender.. i haven’t really thought about it before but i think theres some merit there when looking at Davepeta and Jasprose.

There’s that sudden striking euphoria with the realization that there’s not necessarily a single way you have to stay, theres the sudden very real ability to be truly yourself but in a whole new way. The two halves of a squaredsprite are not lost in the same way that the pre-transition you is not lost once you transition. You are just changed, because life is change, there’s pieces of everyone else you have ever known that are a part of you now, and it’s going to keep being that way, because no one exists in a vacuum.

The memories that squaredsprites gain of different iterations of themselves also remind me of how transitioning will always give you a chance at a better understanding of yourself, all of the different ways that you can exist!

not to mention that all the squaredsprites have their dream self outfits included in their design, and with dreamselves being speculated to be incarnations of the player’s desired self..well it definitely makes the transition interpretation a lil more fascinating

The comment about Jasprosesprite^2 being Pre-Retcon doesnt even make sense does it? All squaredsprites have access to the memories of all alternate versions of the things that make up the sprite. Meaning Jasprose should not only have memory of Pre and After Retcon Rose but all other versions of them.

Good points there! If Jasprose would have memories and knowledge from DOOMED timelines, then Jasprosesprite^2 would not have said Karkat is controlling if a Rose in other doomed timelines knows him as a good person. Why didn't Rose stop Jasper from lying? Does Jasper know about Karkat being a good person in other timelines from Rose's memories in all timelines? Was he scared to lose Nepeta because he knew that in one of the timelines from a Rose, Karkat and Nepeta end up together, and he didn't want that? Why resort to lying? Why no one has call him out for being a scumbag? Doesn't it also contradict Andrew Hussie's bullshit commentary that a Nepeta would never get to be with Karkat unless they both died and they are in the Dream Bubbles? Why should Jasprosesprite have to worry then if a Karkat and Nepeta would not be a couple when they are both still alive in those Doomed Timelines from Rose's memories? The controlling part Jasprose mentioned could very well be Karkat clinging onto Dave. He may have said Jasprosesprite^2: I do not believe that is any way to treat a lady! During it that may imply Karkat was controlling to Terezi. But it could be just him saying he doesn't want Nepeta to be treated poorly. Jasprosesprite^2 could be talking about Dave and he knows that acting controlling to anyone is bad. Just that Jasprosesprite^2 had to add the lady part to look like a gentleman to Nepeta. Vrisrezi has that issue of same sex lesbian abuse and the fandom is fine with it. So I wouldn't be surprised if the fandom is cool with abusive homos in the same redrom quadrant like Davekat.

Bad Homestuck OC

Hanexelprentigrellniretc....Sprite^58643247889654211198 is an ungodly amalgam of sprites. They started as a single squaredsprite, who wanted more of the knowledge and self-acceptance they got from combining. They scour paradox space in search of single-prototyped sprites to add to their monsterous form. Not even Lord English knows how they haven’t exploded yet.

Homestuck is a very good story that was accidentally written by a beginner author who had no idea what he was doing, and it shows in the various ways it falls short.

You’re really not wrong.

Homestuck is still absolutely phenomenal, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who asked about it. I’d still give it glowing reviews and at this point I’m pretty sure I’m going to remain in the fandom for years, both as an active participant and as a consumer of creative products. I couldn’t even begin to think of what to compare Homestuck to, and I’ll always, always regret that I let the negative comments of a few friends stop me from reading the comic until very late in its production.

But you can tell that Hussie had little to no idea what he was doing beyond the basics. It’s evident when you think of what’s lacking, what isn’t done, some of the ignorance he shows to fan favourites and some of the awful, crappy jokes he makes at the fandom’s expense. You can tell every now and then when some plot hole appears that gets a pretty shoddy fix, and you can tell from how much of Act 6 was done completely on the fly, deviating from his own initial draft of what the comic should have been.

The Alpha trolls could have been incredibly interesting as characters if they’d been thought out just a little bit more, implemented into the narrative in a much better way, and not used to poke fun at the fandom. The introduction of the squaredsprites could have been so much more potent had that been planned from the start, and the product of two sprites coming into contact could have been explored in an infinitely more interesting way - because as much as I love Davepeta, I am really disappointed that ARquius doesn’t get anywhere near the attention he should, and that the effects of this process are never really explored in depth. 

Honestly, the best way for me to explain why it’s disappointing to someone who either doesn’t see it or doesn’t agree would be to put it into comparison with Steven Universe.

The fact that Garnet was a fusion was teased from the very beginning; there were five gems on the door leading to each of the Crystal Gems’ rooms, one of which was in a colour that we couldn’t inherently associate with any of the gems we knew - the blue one. Both of these gems compromised the bottom points of the star, directly next to each other, indicating a close relationship. Garnet had two gems - one on each hand - something that we didn’t see with any other gem until Pearl and Amethyst fused. 

If you caught onto these clues, which were subtle and never explicitly looked at, but definitely implied enough that you could figure out a very firm theory for yourself, then Garnet’s reveal was a fulfilment of what you had physically seen in the show - and to anyone who hadn’t seen it, it was a fantastic moment to look back and realise that it had been hinted at from the very start. 

In either case, it was a twist that we were meant to hype up for, something we were meant to expect without knowing for sure if we really were going to get what we were expecting. So when we got that reveal… it was so perfectly executed that it not only explained just about everything we needed to know about Garnet as a fusion, but provided us with lore and a surprise that didn’t completely fuck with the established canon of the series; it was all there, underlying, always meant to be - we just didn’t have all the information to make a clear picture at the time. 

Homestuck doesn’t always do this. The reveal of the Alpha trolls wasn’t something that was always meant to be there, because at no point was it implied that the Beta trolls weren’t the Beta session during Act 5. It wasn’t hinted at that there was something wrong with the session, that they were the result of a “Session Glitch”, and the reveal of the Alpha trolls while exciting was also kind of confusing. 

I mean… just look at what we call them. The Alpha trolls, the ones we’re introduced to in the Alpha timeline, are actually the Beta trolls, and the Beta trolls, the ones we see in Act 5, are actually the Alpha trolls. That one reveal was executed so poorly that we, as a fandom, still haven’t gotten our heads wrapped around the fact that we should be swapping around the Alpha/Beta title for the trolls. 

Hussie either should have skipped them entirely, gone back through and added in little hints as to the truth behind the Beta trolls’ session, or introduced the Alpha trolls in a completely different way - because while they’re a cool set of characters and a cool reveal, they really sort of lack the same impact that Garnet’s reveal in Steven Universe does. 

And that shows the inherent amateur nature of Hussie that we don’t always expect. The sheer difference between Sugar’s planning on Garnet and even on Pink Diamond to Hussie’s sudden throw in of the Alpha trolls and the squaredsprites shows just how much experience as an author really matters.

- Habilidades (capacidades especias): Hahnus é um excelente atirador. Uma pequena curiosidade e que eu joguei um RP/RPG com ele, nesse RPG ele acabou se transformando em um Squaredsprite, se fundindo com seu Lusus e um dragãon(Lusus de outro jogador :v) alem de também ter entrado em Grimdark por ter voado bêbado pelo Furthest ring {Isso que eu chamo de vida agitada.}

I like this a lot, particularly the implication that Gamzee himself is a fucked up amalgamation of souls himself, much like his god, even if the other souls are all him. So more like a squaredsprite really? But anyway, while I can't imagine another motivation for killing everyone I really don't think Rose had to be the last player alive to trigger a dream self merger. I think she just had to sleep through the doomed timeline ending. On that note, I also just assumed for a while that being alive at the end of a doomed timeline just left you ghostless and erased. Meenah certainly had to account for that for a scratch, which is pretty similar.

On another note, Aranea DIDN'T have ghosts after she created a doomed timeline and the Condesce ripped the ring of life off her and snapped her neck. It.. raises a lot of questions actually. Unless all her ghosts are hiding in shame..

man I don't think you can really say bro is brainwashed but gamzee's just evil when you can argue that gamzee's also possessed by cal. they even have really similar relationships to how he's formed, ie part of their souls exist inside lil cal already. which is probably a good explanation for how lil cal is able to brainwash them when he doesn't brainwash, like, dave, who is around him his whole childhood. idk, I just think gamzee's more complicated than "evil ass hole"

As it happens, Gamzee has a line I never gave much weight to before noticing Bro’s SAW interest that I’m more inclined to take seriously now, that suggests Gamzee and Bro’s relationship to Cal WAS intrinsically different:

But even if Bro is kind of a noble captor figure holding Cal back, I still wouldn’t think it excuses any of what he put Dave through. He’s still an awful dude.

As for Gamzee, here’s the main problem with reading him as “just” brainwashed.

Gamzee doesn’t require Lil Cal’s presence to go evil. In fact, Gamzee doesn’t seem to require ANYTHING to turn evil. But even if like, Doc Scratch ALWAYS teleports Lil Cal into Gamzee’s presence to trigger his personality shift, I don’t think it would matter.The weight of the sheer SCALE of Gamzee’s devotion cements his place as an ultimately willing accomplice/acolyte to Caliborn’s Dark Carnival. 

And it kind of makes Gamzee fucking terrifying and a fantastic villain.

I’ll explain my reasoning here.

We know for a fact that Gamzee snaps and kills all his friends in at least one Doomed timeline. This is the source for half the code used in the creation of Doc Scratch. There’s no implication that Lil Cal is involved here at all. 

But again, let’s assume Lil Cal was here again. It doesn’t matter.

Because there is canonically, explicitly, no timeline in the history of Gamzee where Gamzee ever, ever, EVER chooses to rebel. Gamzee Makara simply does not ever choose his friends over Lord English.  In any timeline. Ever.How do I know?

Lets talk about Ghosts for a minute. The fandom has historically kind of taken these guys for granted, and loose fandom consensus is that they aren’t coherent/who has what ghosts is arbitrary. This is incorrect!

Pretty much everybody in the Bubbles that should have alt!ghosts does, including Meenah and Aranea, the two characters who’s alt!ghosts are typically presumed “Missing”. 

This is important. The Ghosts kind of give us very low-key character development, and contextualize the characters for us. For example, Eridan is an absolute irredeemable bastard in the Alpha timeline. But in a God Tier iteration of themselves, Eridan and Feferi seemingly come to friendlier terms. In another, there’s suggestions Eridan makes up with Feferi and Sollux. In yet another, he seems to be Trans or exploring femininity at least.

The point is, there’s a certain fluidity to Eridan’s potential. Still terrible in the comic, but it’s important to remember that Eridan didn’t CHOOSE to be trapped in the meteor with Jack, or to be born to Alternia’s power system, or to be trapped in the Alpha Timeline. 

It’s important to remember these things because in Homestuck, someone with power–Lord English–deliberately and willfully chose those things FOR him. Eridan’s lives are lived in response to that imposed power structure.These factors don’t redeem him completely necessarily

But anyway, the fact that the rest of the cast have coherent quantum expressions means there are only three real exceptions–three characters who either don’t have any ghosts at all, or should have more ghosts than they do. 

The first is Caliborn, who’s timeline has exactly one deviation from the Alpha–apparently caused by John’s retcon. This riddle’s solved easily enough:Predomination doesn’t leave a ghost to appear in the bubbles at all. When Calliope says she ate his soul, she means that literally. Caliborn’s cheating in the Alpha Timeline is indeed the only reason Calliope exists in the bubbles at all.

(This, by the way, explains a lot about the relationship between Caliborn’s soul and Gamzee/Arquis’ in the Lord English. He predominated over them, too.)

The second is Vriska, who only has a single ghost in (Vriska). This is really weird, because we literally know for a fact she dies in more than one doomed timeline! As with the two Calliopes, I think this is down to John’s retcon doing some weird entanglement nonsense to Vriska’s quantum existence.The point is: Where others have a palette of possibility, Vriska has two extremely polarized halves. Schrodinger’s Vriska. 

Important to mention that just like Eridan, the structure of the Alpha Timeline that limits potential Vriskas is IMPOSED ONTO HER. Vriska didn’t want anything about the way she was raised or where she was born. She didn’t ask John and Terezi to retcon her into this bizarre state. Both Vriskas, like the rest of the cast, are rolling with the punches LE has seen fit to give. 

Except for Gamzee.

Hussie literally tells us Gamzee never dies. His single non-Alpha Timeline death in [S] Game Over is retconned by John, and Hussie suggests it straight up doesn’t count. But that presents a problem.

There are thousands upon thousands of Doomed troll timelines. How is it that Gamzee specifically never ever EVER dies? Well, there’s only one real way that a Non-Time player can survive a Doomed timeline, that we know of:

Dream self merger. By going to sleep as the last player present in Sburb, the Doomed Rose from Davesprite’s timeline triggers a game mechanic that ends her timeline completely and merges her consciousness with that of Alpha Rose through their dreamselves. 

If Gamzee survives his doomed timelines, this is the only possible way how. And collapsing all of his potential instances into a single Alpha identity certainly sounds like the reduction of possibility commonly attributed to the Rage aspect.But what that means is that to move on to the Alpha, every Doomed Gamzee must inevitably either snap and kill all the other trolls, or somehow outlast them. And it means that if any Gamzee had EVER, in the entire spectrum of plausibility the Alpha timeline affords, EVER been inclined to rebel against LE–then we would know. Because somewhere out there, that at least Hussie could see, there would be a Ghost to show for it.

But there isn’t. Similar in this respect only to Caliborn, Gamzee simply has no alternate deviations because he doesn’t want them. He chooses the path that leads to Lord English freely and willingly, over and over and over again. 

And like Caliborn…

Gamzee does this because he wants to. 

Gamzee doesn’t BELIEVE he’s going to become his own God–he knows it for a fact. He sees it in Lil Cal’s mangled soul. And he embraces that truth wholeheartedly, throwing himself into the acolyte role from then onwards and presumably following instructions Doc Scratch gives him throughout Act 6. 

Which we can talk about some other time. The point is: Gamzee chooses all this. Whether or not Lil Cal causes him to is beside the point, because there is not and never will be any timeline where Gamzee chooses to resist. 

Gamzee is the ultimate in shitty cosmic nazi religious zealots, and devoted to the very power structure that causes every other character to suffer so. There are no mitigating factors for him as there are for everyone else but Caliborn. At the end of the day, he’s evil.Bad clown. Worst enemy.
